2. Communication with a client
â– At the start of this project I did some research into the type of work
that I wanted to do, I then did some research into the types of
clients which I would be able to produce work for. After this research
stage I went on to find different potential clients. I was set on doing
photography specifically for websites. I then choose the client.
â– I first had to contact my potential client and ask if they even needed
work. I kept this email really formal and professional to make sure
they took it seriously and knew what was needed and wanted. I
think I kept my emails very professional throughout and this is
something that really helped the whole of the production as I had a
much better communication.
â– As soon as I had the brief I could relax more with the communication
whilst I had the ability to plan and start the production. As I went
through production I came back in contact more with my client. I
had a lot of phone calls and even saw them in person, this was so I
could check in with what I was doing.A lot of my work was down to
my own creativeness and common sense, this was going to be the
best way to produce the work to the brief.
â– Keeping in contact with the client was a good way to make sure that
we were both on the same page through the whole of the project,
allowing me to make amendments to the test images and the start
rather than it being an issue after production. There was a good
level of communication, there were parts where the client lacked
communication and had some moments when things didn’t line up
and see eye to eye but that is just down to a cross in schedules and
the busyness of the client. This was all corrected and didn’t change
the final outcome of production.
3. Working with a client
â– Through this whole project the main part has been working with a client. It has been
a whole learning experience of working with clients in the real world. I would day that
this has been an overall positive experience for both me and the client. I have had a
lot of success with the client and the work I have produced to be used in his future
website work.
â– I think the success that has come with working with this client has stemmed from my
level of communication throughout. The brief I was given was very beige in the sense
of it was an open brief, there was not much that the client wanted me to achieve so I
had to be very self critical and creative to make sure I was producing something of a
high standard that would work not only for the company but for the website which it
is presented on.
â– I did a few mock ups and then went to see my client which allowed me to show him
the different ideas I had and how they would work to really boost his business for the
better. This was a good place to start as I had a few ideas but I didn’t want to stem
too much into the creative flow, so by showing him the ideas and him having this
much more clear view led to more discussion over my abilities and what I could
produce.
â– After showing and discussing my work with the client it allowed me to have a lot
more of an idea of what he wanted. It came across more in person which meant that I
took the approach of speaking to him, I think when taking photographs it is hard to
get across the visuals when you are doing it over email so I took a few opportunities
to meet with the client and discuss these potentials.
â– As there was a pre discussion before the production and I was doing photography
there was little discussion in the main production stages, there were drop ins but
there isn’t too much to change from the test shots to the production of the actual
images. I think had I have done something else then it would have been more
important to keep the constant changes in loop.
4. Management within the project
â– In this project as it was very independent and to a professional standard I had to have a lot of personal management. From
some of my first projects to now I have a lot more management. I have learnt how to manage myself as an individual within
my work and sector. I think that the management has been a big factor within my project and has allowed me to complete
this project to a much higher standard. On this project I have done well to produce work to a high standard and manage
myself as much as possible to really help myself. I have managed to manage my work and produce this work for my client.
â– From the previous slides where I discussed the communication with my client this was part of the management. I had to
manage my communication and my interaction with the client. This was a successful type of management as I was able to
find out more about my client and the work which benefited me in the long run to make the project more successful. This
type of management was carried out in a professional and successful manner which means that this management was in
fact successful. If I had to manage this project again I would make sure that this communication management was to this
standard again as it does positively effect my project.
â– I learnt how to manage myself a lot more in this project, it has been successful to have a better management. I really loved
how I can now trust my management skills and my ability to take charge of myself. I have learnt a lot of skills within this
project but I have definitely improved on my management skills and the ability to control the whole of my projects. This has
been successful and has taught me a lot.
5. Management within the project
(Time)
â– When doing my planning process for this
project I did a time plan. I took into account
all of the tasks I have to do and the
timescale in which I have to complete these
tasks. In this project I stuck to the time plan,
this is because I had to keep up with the
work to get this done in time for the client.
This time plan was successful and there is
nothing major which I would change if I had
to do this again. The only part of the
schedule that didn’t really work is the
evaluation. I didn’t have the management
skills to get this done by the time I thought I
could have had it done for. I have had a lot
of success and I will do my plans like this in
the future to give me the strong
management again.
â– I also gave myself deadlines in between the
timescale this was something that I haven’t
done before and it worked so well this time.
I did this so that I could work to deadlines
and it really meant that I could manage my
time more. This was a good method for both
me and the client because at each point of
the deadlines I was able to connect back
with my client and the plan. This worked
well for me and I feel like if I do another
project then I will do this again.
6. Management within the project
(brief)
â– The most crucial part of this whole
project was to make work that was
suited to my client and the brief in
hand. There had to be a lot of
management aspects around the
brief. I had to make sure that the
work I was producing was being
produced in relation to the brief. This
meant a constant referral and sticking
to the plan to assure everything I
produced was successful and what
the client wanted.
7. Meeting the requirements of the brief
â– To assure that my client was happy with the product
and the outcome that I produced I had to make sure
that the work I did follow the brief me and my client
discussed. The brief helped me to come up with a plan,
the plan was then discussed and this further turned
into my production. The brief has a lot of heart of the
product and I had a constant bond with the brief to
make sure everything I was doing was to help with the
final outcome. As the brief was so open and nothing
overly finalised it was a lot of post brief discussion, self
creativity and influence that really made sure that this
was a successful outcome.
â– I made my final outcome according to the brief. I
made a series of photographs of each of the
apartment options which shows the features of them.
The photographs were taken and edited to a good
format which is appropriate for the website
developing. I took the photographs and edited them
to make sure that they met the sleek, minimal and
professional photographs which will attract the target
audience of both business travellers and tourists. I
made the images as minimal and clean as possible
with a lot of post production to achieve this exact look.
8. Skills I have learnt
â– At the start of this project I had a slight understanding of the photography style I was going to undertake. I know the basics
of photography and more areas more than others. I had never really gone into the interior photography. I learnt how to do
the photography through a lot of research, trialling and making changes which I needed. To say I have only done this now
once it has been important to adapt and learn these new skills. I still have a long way to go if I want to carry on in this style, I
will have to put a lot more into it and learn more skills but for the basics I now have the skills to produce these photographs.
â– I also learnt how to produce and write a brief then follow it. I have done this in the past but not to this professional level.
This has allowed me to follow a much more strict brief and produce a more professional style brief which I can take into the
real world of media production.
â– I have learnt how to communicate with professional clients and produce work to their needs and wants. It has taught me
how to listen and plan around an external company. This skill has been really important. I have learnt to approach clients,
arrange meetings and how to have a professional phone call as well as being able to talk about work in a light manner. I
have learnt how to have my creative flow and input whilst still having to please a client.
â– Having these skills will allow me to make work for more future clients with the knowledgeable and improved skills both
socially and academically. This will improve my general act when working with clients on future projects.
9. Skills I have developed
• Even if we go back to earlier this year my skills have
had to develop and they have had to develop fast. My
original photography style is pretty quirky and I try to
experiment. I am often creating more art with
photography then your sort of commercial style. The
only commercial photography I have done previously
has been just standard studio like photography.
• Developing my skills into interior photography has
allowed me to experiment more with styles, my
cameras ability and the way I shoot. This has opened
me up to a lot more consideration and the fact I'm
producing it for such a professional style.
• My skills have definitely being expanded during this
whole project and I feel really happy with the
changes. The ability to now go from one style to
another is not only interesting but also beneficial.
10. Constraints
â– At the start of my project I took into consideration any potential issues with any constraints I might face whilst doing this
project. I decided in my plan that I didn’t have to worry about any legal issues with photographs as I was taking them all by
myself. I wasn’t creating any prints or designs so I didn’t have to create anything, even if I did I would have done this myself.
I didn’t have to worry about any issues of similarity as interior design is very individual to the building and the interior
design, no two images are going to be the same.
â– In the future I might copy right my work or add water marks which might help prevent any potential issues when it comes to
the copying of work. As it is mainly photography I have to look at the potential issues of people taking my work as well as
me stealing there’s.
■My work is not offensive, not discriminative and can’t be negatively interpreted. This means for my ASA regulations my
work is easily appropriate and doesn’t create any issues. My work is very clean and can not be mislead to anyone to think
otherwise, there is nothing in my images that could cause damage.
â– As stated in my plan the only budget issues would be the travel and potential bribery for an assistant. I had all of the
equipment I needed for both the production and post production. When I visited the shoot location and client I did it on my
own and didn’t need a budget to cover this. I also didn’t have to budget any extra help.
â– As this was a college project it was much easier to follow any regulations or budgeting issues. If and when I do this in the
real world I will have to consider all of these points much further, when it comes to budgeting in the future I will take more
into consideration which will assure I get the money I need before the production in a fee to cover the initial budget.
11. Feedback
â– Peers and audience
I have yet to get the feedback from my client as they have not responded. I did show my client the photographs after post
production and they were happy for me to finalize the images and export them. At no point did my client want me to change any
of the images.
I have shown the images to multiple people from class mates, tutors and even external course friends during the production
stages just to see what they thought as there was a lot of editing. At each check point with people I took advice and edited the
images, this constant check point allowed me to take advice from someone else's eyes and change my work to be more suiting.
Although this may have annoyed my class mates it did allow me to make small changes which made the work look better in the
long run.
â– How the work contributes to future workplace
My work will be put onto the website of the apartments. This will allow the audience to be more attracted and hopefully gain
more business.
This has given me more experience to take into the work place and will allow me to further my skills and help other companies in
the future better their photo skills. It is a long process but this is a starting point.
I hope my client uses the images appropriately to change the photography quality on his website to better him and his
organization.
