Process chart
A chart may be a diagram, a picture or a graph which gives overall
view of the situation called a process.
A process chart records graphically or diagrammatically in
sequence the operation connected with a process.
This is done by directly observing the work.
Process chart activities represents by some symbols.
Process chart symbols
The recording of the facts about the job or operation in a process
chart is done by using standard symbols.
Operation
An operation takes place when there is change in physical or
chemical characteristics of an object.
Example: Dig the soil, drill hole etc.
Inspection
Inspection is checking an object for its quality, quantity or
identification.
Example: Counting the number products produced, checking level of
water etc.
Transportation
An arrow indicates the transport.
This refers to the movement of an object or operator or equipment
from one place to another. But when the movement take place
during operation, it is not transport.
Example: Moving the material by trolley or movement of object.
Delay
A large capital letter D indicates delay. This is also called temporary
storage. Delay occurs when an object or operator is waiting for the
next activity.
Example: Waiting a bus stop, waiting in counter etc.
Types of flow process chart
 Man type - It records what the workers does.
 Material type - It records what happens to the material.
 Equipment type – It records how the equipment is used.
