Complex problems can be solved using Top-down design model, also known as Step-wise refinement, where we break the problem into parts and then break the parts into sub parts and finally soon, each of the parts will be easy to code and accomplish…
Context is more important than content for learningAJWebster
The demands of the 21st Century require a different approach from traditional education. In the current paradigm, CONTENT is king. Educators are often concerned with coverage of specific topics and attempts to measure the understanding of algorithms and the recall of facts. Rather than force-feeding everyone the same content, we should be creating CONTEXTS in which students have the opportunity to think, practice skills, take risks, and explore. Expect presentation, play, and discussion.

Real understanding comes through insight or the "Aha" moment. This presentation examines how Insight works as seen through the eye's of Michael Polanyi's tacit theory of knowledge. Insight operates at the subconscious level hence seems like magic. Understanding the structure of tacit knowledge takes some of the magic out leaving us better able to learn and teach for the insight moment.
Public Speaking? Anytime!
As Daniel Pink put it, "We're all in sales now". From the 30-second elevator pitch to the 30-minute persuasive speech, we're always speaking in public, even in the not-for-profit world, giving (mini) presentations in front of diverse audiences of 1 or 1 million. Be prepared- with my 10 guiding questions- and shine! Follow the links for resources from some of the field's experts, and explore all the web has to offer, such as amazing public speaking/presentations examples in TED Talks! If you’re responsible for introducing customers to a company or a product for the first time, there’s something you need to watch out for. It’s called the curse of knowledge, and it can affect anyone who creates brand messaging, website copy, tutorials, or onboarding processes. The curse of knowledge is widely defined as:
The curse of knowledge is a cognitive bias that occurs when an individual, communicating with other individuals, unknowingly assumes that the others have the background to understand.
The curse of knowledge means that the more familiar you are with something, the harder it is to put yourself in the shoes of someone who’s not familiar with that thing. You can’t unlearn what you’ve learned, and you can’t see it with fresh eyes anymore. Plus, you have a much harder time explaining the basics to people who are new to the subject because you can’t remember what questions you had when you were new to the subject.

What is Collective Intelligence? & can we design for increasing it? Possibly the most crucial issue of our times of change: if we don't manage to work together, we will not achieve a more rational society. (Or the other way round ...)

A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.
Synthetic Fiber Construction in lab .pptxPavel ( NSTU)
Synthetic fiber production is a fascinating and complex field that blends chemistry, engineering, and environmental science. By understanding these aspects, students can gain a comprehensive view of synthetic fiber production, its impact on society and the environment, and the potential for future innovations. Synthetic fibers play a crucial role in modern society, impacting various aspects of daily life, industry, and the environment. ynthetic fibers are integral to modern life, offering a range of benefits from cost-effectiveness and versatility to innovative applications and performance characteristics. While they pose environmental challenges, ongoing research and development aim to create more sustainable and eco-friendly alternatives. Understanding the importance of synthetic fibers helps in appreciating their role in the economy, industry, and daily life, while also emphasizing the need for sustainable practices and innovation.

Prior Knowledge and
Background Knowledge in
Reading
2. What is prior or background knowledge?
Prior or background knowledge is everything you
know about something.
What do you know about…. ?
The French Revolution
Ice cream – chocolate, in particular
Family
Nanotechnology
Everyone’s knowledge of a
topic is different.
3. Why do need background knowledge in reading?
Read the text.
What “prior or background knowledge” is missing to
understand the message of the text?
You probably have never heard of the “Luddites.”
We can understand from the text that the Luddites are
against technology but we do not know what context to put
them in.
BUT to get the message of the text we need to know
who these people are/were?
The Luddites are archetypal opponents of new technology.
4. When….
When you realize that you do not have the background
information, it is your job to go find out!
It’s easier then ever today, thanks to…
6. How and When?
Activate your prior knowledge or get
the missing background knowledge
while you are reading!
7. REMEMBER: Not having prior knowledge or
the background knowledge is like trying to put together a
puzzle when there are pieces missing. You will never get
the whole picture.
