Lin Manuel Miranda Accomplishments
From performing in musicals and television shows, composing music, and writing Broadway musicals,
Lin Manuel Miranda is one of the most influential celebrities of recent years. He has done so many
amazing things with his musical theatre talents including writing two Broadway musicals and writing
music for some Disney movies. Many people know about his accomplishments with Broadway, but
what they don t know is why he started doing musical theatre in the first place. His love of Broadway
started long ago, when he was growing up in New York City. Lin Manuel Miranda was born in New
York City, New York on January 16, 1980. His mother is a Puerto Rican immigrant, and she works as a
clinical psychologist. His father, also a Puerto Rican immigrant, is a political consultant. The Mirandas
were a very musically oriented family. Lin Manuel and his older sister, Luz, started learning to play the

Then you take into account that he grew up in a poor family. You may be thinking that it can t get any
better than that. Well, guess what? It can get better. Aside from all of his success on Broadway, Lin
Manuel Miranda has made many other contributions to the television, acting, and musical theatre
industries. The most notable of his accomplishments is the soundtrack from Moana , the 2016 Disney
film. Miranda received a Grammy Award and an Oscar Nomination for How Far I ll Go , one of the
most popular songs from the film. He also made appearances in Sopranos , How I Met Your Mother ,
Modern Family , 200 Cordos , and The Odd Life of Timothy Green . The music from Bring it On: The
Musical was also written by Miranda. In addition, he wrote a song with Tom Kitt called Bigger , which
is used in some award shows including the Tony Awards. Lin Manuel translated the musical West Side
Story into Spanish for the 2009 revival, which has also been a great

Economic Indicators Paper
Economic Indicators Paper
What does it mean when someone refers to the health of an economy? Furthermore, how can one
classify an economy? Americans love to quantify data. Because of this inherent need to compare data,
economists have developed a way to collect nearly every type of statistics that may reveal the general
health of the economy. These statistics actually tell if the economy is productive and efficient or if it is
slow and inefficient. Included in these statistics are Gross Domestic Product (GDP), Consumer Price
Index (CPI), Unemployment Rate, Retail Sales, Producer Price Index (PPI), and Personal Income.
Included in this paper, Team A defines the preceding six indicators, and describes their status.
Additionally, a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There have been many indicators that have been developed to measure inflation. The CPI measures
inflation as experienced by consumers through their everyday expenses. The Producer Price Index
(PPI) measures inflation during the early stages of business development, such as production and sales.
The best measure of inflation for a given application depends upon how one intends to use this data.
CPI allows businesses to adjust prices based upon a comparison of the current cost of a defined set of
goods and/or services to the cost of those same goods at a time in the past. It is also, the best measure
to use to translate retail sales and hourly earnings into real or inflation free dollars (2005). The CPI is
the most widely used measure of inflation and is sometimes viewed as an indicator of the effectiveness
of government economic policy. It provides information about price changes in the Nation s economy
to government, business, labor, and private citizens and is used by them as a guide to making economic
decisions. In addition, the President, Congress, and the Federal Reserve Board use trends in the CPI to
aid in formulating fiscal and monetary policies.
Retail Sales Retail sales, represent an important component in the economy. Products sold by
companies, such as Target and local retail stores are tracked and reported to the Census Bureau. The
Census Bureau compiles this data on a monthly basis

Karl Popper And The Scientific Method
Karl Popper is commonly regarded as one of the greatest philosophers of science in the 20th Century.
He is well known for his rejection of the inductivist viewpoint of the scientific method, in which one
uses observation to propose a law to generalize an observed pattern, and later confirm that law through
more observation. Popper states that induction cannot be logically justified (Popper 14). Inductivism
relies on the process of inductive reasoning which is a logical process in which multiple premises, all
thought to be true and found to be true most of the time, are combined to obtain a conclusion and in
many cases formulate a law or theory. Popper rejected the inductivist viewpoint in favor of a theory
called empirical falsification which holds that a theory can never be proven, but it can be falsified, and
therefore it can and needs to be scrutinized through experimentation.
In his work Conjectures and Refutations, Popper discussed several aspects of induction including the
topics of conjectures (opinions or conclusions formed on the basis of incomplete information) or
tentative theories and refutations (ways to refute an argument, opinion, testimony, doctrine, or theory,
through contradicting evidence) or the acts of disproving arguments through counterexamples
(Oxford).
Popper opines that a significant problem with the scientific method is that scientists get so caught up in
evidence that supports a specific conjecture that they either 1) fail to consider

The Rage Against The Machine
It was a time of long hair and stealth window escapes at the midnight hour; a time of skipping class,
anti establishment sentiment spewing forth from my foul, juvenile, remorseless mouth. I was mad at
the world on the grounds that I felt as though I had been dealt a lousy hand in this life. In my infinite
teenage wisdom, I had convinced myself if I could not everything my way, I would set the world
ablaze and watch it burn. Full of aggressive energy, anger was the emotion with which I chose to
express myself. Naturally, I found fuel for the fire in a band named Rage against the Machine. Front
man Zach de la Rocha put the emotions I was experiencing into a lyrical poetic, militant, rap core
metal form. It was unlike anything I had ever heard before: pure, intellectual, and most of all,
unfiltered. Initially, I was drawn to Rage because of their sound and musical talent, with their
unparalleled ability to blend various genres of music and produce something authentic in a world of
simulacra. On the other hand, I had little knowledge of events, names, and issues that this band was
bringing to my attention: real life sociological issues like economic inequality, political prisoners held
captive in our own country, brute force control, and the reality that freedom is a hoodwink illusion.
These are topics that I have evolved to feel passionately about and of which I wish others were more
conscious and aware. Subject matters that are so heinous that one does not actually desire or

The anthropological literature tackling the topic of romantic love concerns possible factors that make
love an integral part of general social structure and marriage in certain societies, such as modes of
subsistence dependence, sexual equality and post marital residence rules.
One cannot overstate the significance that lies in understanding the relationship between love and
marriage, as both are critical elements of humanity. Understanding love as a functioning agent in
maintaining marital stability allows us to better understand an important part of who we are as humans.
Hence, as a basic building block of human social structure, romantic ·love and its role in the
maintenance of society is an incredibly important area of research.
Much of the anthropological community agrees that romantic love does constitute a valid area of
research, and hopes to repair the general oversight of love that occurred in earlier ethnographic work
(Jankowiak
1992 and Fischer 1992).
In order to analyze the relationship between romantic love and marriage, it is necessary to compare
current thinking with respect to this theme. It is also important to research and discuss love in terms of
its functional role in society, or more appropriately, its functional role

Women In The Fifth Letter Heloise
In the fifth letter Heloise refers to women as the weaker sex. Regardless of whether or not she believed
that herself, that was the common thought of the Middle Ages. It was believed that the female mind
was inadequately equipped, compared to that of a males, and it was frowned upon for a woman to
show that she might be more intelligent than any male. According to Williams and Echols, women
physicians were often charged as witches by male physicians or tangled up in legal issues because they
competed with the males. Heloise was very careful to never challenge Abelard s intelligence. She
always addressed him as if he were above her, and appealed to his position in the church regardless of
the fact that in contrast to Heloise , Abelard had failed miserably in monastic ... Show more content on

In the second letter, Abelard asserts his authority over Heloise, and states that she can only contact him
if she is seeking help for matters that pertain to God. Heloise acquiesced to this because she realized
that to Abelard, she was the weaker sex, and that he needed her to seek his advice to prove his
authority over her and also because she wanted to continue to correspond with him. According to
Professor Stephen G. Nichols, writing was equivalent to the caress that Heloise used to receive from
Abelard. In the fifth letter, she appeals to Abelard s ego by addressing his need to

Tenement House Law Research Paper
Tenement houses are mainly for people that are/were poor. They do not exist in America. They do exist
in India and overpopulated and poor countries. The purpose of these was to solve the problems of the
homeless. It solved the problem but the conditions were way too harsh for them. Conditions in these
were terrible, Most people had no lights or any air. They were overcrowded. They were very dirty.
Laws were eventually made to improve the conditions in these tenement houses. They made changes
because people were dying from terrible conditions. One law that improved conditions was the
Tenement House Act of 1867, which required a toilet for every 20 people. The Tenement House Law
outlawed the building of any more tenements on a 25 foot lot.

Amelia Earhart Achievements
Amelia Earhart is known for her disappearance in the sky. She embarked on many flights across the
world that made her famous. As one of the first female pilots, she set a precedent for future females in
aviation everywhere. Even after her death, many women aspire to become pilots. There was a lot of
moving, odd jobs, and short flights that eventually helped Earhart achieve her dreams. Her hard work
and determination contributed to her greatest accomplishment being the first female to fly across the
world.
She did not start out as a pilot, in fact, Amelia Earhart had many odd jobs to help her reach her career
goal. At the time, nineteen year old Earhart went to visit her sister in Canada. Earhart decided that

first president of the organization and helped use it as a platform to promote American commercial
airlines. Between 1930 to 1935, Earhart set seven women s speed and distance flying records,
including the world s fastest flying speed of 181.18 miles per hour ( Amelia Earhart ).
In 1932, Earhart became the first woman to fly across the Atlantic Ocean by herself. She set off from
Newfoundland, Canada. The weather conditions were bad and only got worse as she flew, and she
eventually had to land in Northern Ireland. For achieving her solo flight across the Atlantic, she was
awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross by Congress, and the Gold Medal of the National Geographic

addition, she was awarded the Cross of the Knight of the Legion of Honor by the French government (

The Importance Of Football In High School
When students go from junior high to a high school, they will see and witness new things that the
school will provide throughout the four years. New clubs, activities, things that they will never forget
for next couple years. If you re really wanting to have a good time at school, you can be a part of a
sport instead of being in P.E. in the first two years of high school. There are many sport that students
could join like, but there is one that people are really worried about young students could be harmed.
Football is a sport that has a lot of contact and, as seen on T.V., people have been sent to the hospital
for serious head injuries, some might even reach the point of dying. Many schools have themselves,
should young student be played in high school? Well, some might say it is not safe, but I think student
should have the opportunity to make the football team. Young teens have many perspectives than other
teenagers, no one is the same. Many teens would want to join football and there are those who would
not like to even jog or would go outside. It would be a good way for those who want to get a daily
exercise and lose some calories, these young athletes would feel good about themselves to know they
are in a sport and they get some exercise into their bodies. Some young teenagers would not want to
even go for walk, a nice, easy jog, or even want to sweat at all. There have been cases that teens would
be diabetic for not getting enough motion into their muscles

The Process Of Conducting Research
Procedure
The process of conducting research is to gather information that relates to your I search question. The I
search question that I am seeking answers to happens to be; what is the definition of family in today s
society? There are many methods of investigation that can be used to answer this question, but I have
limited it to eight methods. The eight methods I have chosen are going to give me in depth information
about my purposed I search question.
The first method of investigation for my I search project that would best help me gather information
for my project is interviewing both in person and by email. The interview process is beneficial to my
project because it gives me in depth and comprehensive information. The interviews will consist of
ordinary people in todays, society both younger and older the young will be aged from four to thirty
and old will consist of anyone over thirty. I am doing the interviews to gain answers to my secondary
questions which are based on gender and age. Also interviews provide personal experiences and better
understanding of the subject matter in this case family.
The second method of investigation will be scholarly journals. I am using journals because family is a
big topic to be covered and it has been discussed and written about over many years. Many
psychologists have written about what defines a family and how it has changed over time. These
Journals will help me show that the definition is outdated and how it should be

Breaching Reflection Paper
During syllabus week, I was immediately interested in the breaching experiment. I have always been
interested in the challenging the mundane aspects of our culture and seeing how people react. A
breaching experiment is an experiment that is used to observe and record reactions of people in which
an individual breaks a social rule or norm. Breaching experiments are important because even if you
don t realize it, following the rules that have been set around us and acting like everyone else shows
that you are supporting the structure of society. Also, one can promote a different reality when
someone acts different or against the grain of society.
The norm that I am breaching is the courteous act of picking up papers when someone drops them. ...

I made sure to throw the papers all over the place so that I drew attention to myself. My first attempt
was a little weak because I wasn t quite skilled on fake tripping and I probably looked like someone
who was fake tripping. At first, I got a lot of strange looks, like Did that girl just fake trip? so I quickly
picked up all the papers and ran into the bathroom to hide. After I collected myself from the
embarrassment, I found another seat and waited about 10 minutes before I tried again. My second
attempt went better, my fake trip was a little less flamboyant but still believable. It took a few seconds
before a young man bent down to help me. I got up and started to walk away quickly in the opposite
direction. I walked fast enough so that I could go into Crossroads and spy throughout one of the
windows which was pretty convenient. The guy definitely had a confused look on his face. He looked
around, got up, and left the papers spread out on the floor. After he walked away I picked the papers up
and sat down to wait again. The third time was definitely different. After my perfected fake trip, a
group of girls stopped to help me. Out of a group of four girls, two bent down and started to pick up
my papers. The moment I started to walk in the opposite direction a girl said, What the fuck? . I tried
so hard not to have a reaction so I kept walking with my head down.

Behavior Change Reflection
I thoroughly enjoyed the behavior change program. I started this program thinking one way about yoga
and left with a completely different point of view. I now have a new work out that I love doing and will
continue to do well into the future. For my weekly goals, I did meet them most weeks however, there
were some weeks where I felt I did not reach the goal I set for myself. That was to be expected so it
never derailed my motivation when I came up short on my goals. I did meet all of my long term goal.
In the end I gained more flexibility while still improving my strength and maintain my body
composition. I also found a workout that I enjoy doing which distresses and relaxes me.
The only change that needs to be made to continue my progress is that I need to devote more time to
working on my flexibility, even more than I already do. Whenever I have free time I should spend 15
20 minutes working on my flexibility so that I can eventually get to where I want to be. Before, once I
finished my yoga workouts for the week is was sometimes hard to find the motivation to work on my
flexibility during my down time. That is now something I would like to change.
The strategies that were successful was being open minded to all the different types of yoga and the
benefits that each have. I went in being ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Importance Of The English Revolution And The American...
English history played a major role in the American Revolution by introducing new and revolutionary
ideas to the public. Several events, such as the English Revolution and the restoration of the monarchy
also influenced the mindset during the war. The successful overthrow of Charles I and the attempted
establishment of an English republic probably inspired many colonists to fight against King George III
s tyranny. Enlightenment ideals such as social contract and basic rights also influenced the war. The
colonists felt that King George III was violating their right to privacy, assembly, and speech. Therefore,
the colonists had the right to revolt because the government was failing its main purpose according to
social contract. British tax and economic policies such as the Stamp Act, Townshend Act, Sugar Act,
and the Navigation Acts angered colonists. They believed the Parliament had no right to impose these
taxes and laws on them because the colonists weren t represented in government. As a result, several
Sons of Liberty members, disguised as Native Americans, boarded a British cargo ship and dumped tea
into the Boston Harbor as protest. Angered by the act, Parliament passed the Intolerable Acts (Coercive
Acts), punishing the Bostonians for the Boston Tea Party by blockading the Boston Harbor until
restitution was made for the tea. The colonists also resented the Navigation Acts, which effectively
created a British trading monopoly. Cheap items were often highly taxed,

Fringe Benefit Tax Assessment Act 1986
Mary is a marketing consultant at Elite Retail and has been offered various fringe benefits by her
employer. Mary and her employer were worried about the tax consequences of the respective benefits
and how it could be addressed in income tax return.
(a) Tax Implications on Relocation Cost
The employer of Mary paid her $4,000 for the transfer of furniture for her recent relocation at
Brisbane. The amount is an exempt benefit for Mary because section 61B, Div 13 of Fringe Benefit
Tax Assessment Act 1986 concludes relocation expense as an exempt benefit provided relocation is
important for the performance of her job responsibilities (ATO, 2004).

It will give a taxable value of $11,765 ($6,000 x 1.9608) and FBT Liability as $5,765 ($11,765 x 49%).
(e) Tax implications on Loan
The employer of Mary has also provided her a loan of $500,000 at a reduced rate of only 4%. When an
employer grants a loan to an employee at a rate lower than market rate then section 16, Division 4 of
Fringe Benefit Tax Assessment Act 1986 requires to pay tax on loan fringe benefit at the difference of
benchmark rate and payment rate. In accordance with Australian Tax Office (ATO), the current
benchmark rate is 5.45% (Deloitte, 2016). The taxable value will be gross up by Type 2 benefit rate of
1.9608 because we assume that the employer is not obliged to get a refund on this amount. It will give
a taxable value of $14,216 ($7,250 x 1.9608) and when this amount is charged by current tax rate of
49% then it will give FBT Liability of $6,966 ($14,216 x 49%).

conditions, the family moved northeast to the suburban area, La Mesa, California where Ricky and his
family were sometimes the victims of racial slurs and jokes. In this area of California, Ricky felt too
black for his white friends and too white for his black friends ( Ricky Williams, 04). The alienation he
felt from peers, caused Ricky to keep to himself most of the time and contributed to his shyness. In
school, Ricky was a good student academically, but was seen a behavior problem due to his ability to
control his anger. Peers and teachers considered him a bully and someone who liked to pick on smaller
kids. Because of his behavior, Ricky s mom had him transferred to another school. This change of
environment proved to be the best move for Williams. His grades improved and he started to excel in
sports. ( Ricky Williams, 04) Ricky s athletic ability led to him being recruited by the University of
Texas to play college football. While there, Williams broke several records and won the Heisman

its only draft pick, marking the first time that one player was chosen as the only draft pick of an NFL

Maleic Acid And Fumaric Acid Lab Report
INTRODUCTION
Maleic acid and Fumaric acid are both compounds belonging to the carboxylic acids class. In this
experiment, we formed the two isomers of 1,2 ethylenedicarboxylic acid and tested the solubility and
melting points of both of these products. Both of these compounds involve a carbon carbon double
bond that is composed of one σ bond and one π bond. The overlap of sp2 hybrid orbitals forms the σ
bond, and one empty p orbital forms the π bond. This process is illustrated in the figure below:

The mixture then formed white crystals when placed in the ice bath, and only the white crystals
remained after filtration. Table 2 describes observations made for part two of the experiment, and the
theoretical yield of the second product formed.
Table 2: Observations made for part two
Mass of Maleic Anhydride (g) Mass of Final Product 2 (g) Theoretical Melting Point (⁰C)

The actual melting point observed for product 1 was 141⁰C, however, we could not determine the
actual melting point for product 2 because it was higher than the thermometer could determine. The
maximum temperature product 2 reached was 220⁰C. We did not perform the solubility test ourselves,
but a classmate s results show that product 1 was more soluble in water because it dissolved quicker
than product 2 did.
QUESTIONS
1. Maleic acid is a cis isomer and Fumaric acid is a trans isomer of carboxylic acids.
2. It is not reasonable to perform a percent yield calculation separately for the two products because
the filtrate reserved from the formation of maleic acid was used to produce fumaric acid in the second
part of the experiment, and we could not determine how much maleic acid dissolved without additional
data. However, because the isomers have the same molecular mass, we could perform a

Well the first topic I will be talking about whether not Farmer Giles of Ham is a Hero to me . In my
opinion Farmer Giles is a hero because his town was attacked by a hopeless giant . That giant just

Blunderbuss is a short range shotgun . Ok let get back on track . So then later the giant thought it was a
stinking dragonfly . So then he turned back and start running back to his big giant mommy . So after
that commotion the town greeted him with delight of honor . Even a smart king gave him a generation

The Ascent Of Money By Niall Ferguson
Have you ever finished a book and said to yourself Wow, I am going to reread this book again?
Unfortunately, The Ascent of Money by Niall Ferguson is not a book where you will likely reread it,
instead you will be saying Is it finally over? Ferguson explains how money came to be in our society
by starting off with the first use of currency to the end where money has become something we cannot
even touch. As a person who is not interested in the history of money, but interested in my net worth
going up, I believe The Ascent of Money by Niall Ferguson did a mediocre job on attempting to
persuade us on how money is one of the backbones of human history.
Initially, the first issue of the book I did not like, jumping from place to place on the timeline. Ferguson
begins with how, before money came about, we primitive peoples chanced upon each other, it seems,
they were more likely to fight over scarce resources (food and fertile women) than to engage in
commercial exchange. (Ferguson 19). Back then we did not need money; instead we just took what we
needed. Then Ferguson jumped right into how the Spanish found gold and silver, then the Roman
Empire, and then Mesopotamia. Ferguson should have followed a timeline and it would have made the
book less confusing to read. In class, I understood what was going on in between those timelines,
however if somebody just picked up the book and started reading it, they would be confused especially
with how we came from the Spanish to

The Role Of Justice And The Pursuit Of Righteousness
Sir Arthur Conan Doyle was and still is one of the most prominent figures in world literature,
especially in the mystery genre. While many works of literature belong in the mystery genre, Sir
Arthur Conan Doyle s Sherlock Holmes series stands out the most. Sir Arthur Conan Doyle s famous
literary works, A Study in Scarlet, The Hound of the Baskervilles, and A Scandal in Bohemia share a
common theme: the importance of justice and the pursuit of righteousness.
Sir Conan Arthur Doyle was born on May 22nd, 1859 in Edinburgh, Scotland. The Doyles were
originally from London, but Arthur s father Charles Altamont Doyle and mother Mary Foley Doyle
moved to Scotland to pursue Charles career in architecture. Arthur pursued a degree in medicine at the
University of Edinburgh, where he became bored of the subject and excelled instead in sports. Yet, at
the University of Edinburgh he met who would later be the model of the famous Sherlock Holmes, Dr.
Joseph Bell. College was also where Doyle became disenchanted by organized religion, which can also
be seen in his stories later on in his life.
After graduating medical school he struggled to make a living out of being a doctor, and released his
first short story A Study in Scarlet in 1886. Because of troubles involving ownership of the novela, he

Essay on Doppelganger and King Kong English Speech
Introduction:
Good morning/afternoon class and *teacher*, today I will be speaking about how Michael Parker, the
author of Doppelganger and Peter Jackson, the director of the film King Kong, accurately portray the
main concept of the Beast Within through the symbolism of masks and the notions of betrayal and
duplicity. I will be talking about Josh and Andrew from Doppelganger, Carl Denham and the people
that he manipulated and affected through his deception, from King Kong and explain their
contributions to the main idea of the Beast Within, how they wear a mask and how they portray the
concepts of Duplicity and Betrayal.
Body Paragraph 1: (Doppelganger)
In Parker s novel, Doppelganger, a key character, Josh, shows that he has a ... Show more content on

The fact that Josh gave Andrew the QZ45 meant that there is now a whole new series of events that
affect the storyline; Andrew ends up killing boy because the QZ45 has a mental and physical effect,
where the taker feels ready to fight or kill . In this case, boy makes Andrew angry, by slashing him
with a knife during the chase in the tunnels, and Andrew goes on a crazy rampage and kills boy.
Andrew soon becomes very guilty that he killed boy because he realises that in the normal Sydney boy
is a kid named Derek, who dies in a car crash, which makes Andrew logically believe that if one
person is killed in the Dystopic Sydney, this same happening will reflect in a slightly different manner,
in the normal Sydney. Josh also demonstrates the concept of the Beast Within through the plain evil of
what he did to Andrew, the evil intentions of Josh were the reason why he did it, it wasn t to save
anyone s life, like Andrew ends up doing later on in the text, but it was all part of Josh s scheme to
become the owner of the metsin factory so that he could become the richest and most famous person in
the Dystopic Sydney, he was willing to kill many people to get his desire and he managed to get a
whole gang of hallboys to listen to him and do it.
Body Paragraph 2: (King Kong):
In the film, King Kong, Ann Darrow, a key character, is first seen as a nice girl who is

Literature Review The significance of early negotiations in careers is that it controls the outcome of a
person s well being at the company, the overall career path as well as the way other employers view
the person from day one. In a study by Curhan, Elfenbein, Kilduff (2009), focuses on the effects of job
offer negotiations on employees succeeding levels of satisfaction and intentions to remain at the
company. Furthermore, the researchers compare the corresponding predictive strengths of two different
types of negotiation particularly, employees subjective evaluations of their job offer negotiations
versus their financial outcomes achieved. The researchers sampled MBA graduates who negotiated
their full time job offers and examined their subjective negotiation experience and tangible concessions
as predictors of their job satisfaction, compensation satisfaction, and intention to remain within their
organizations 1 year later (p 525). The findings from this research study conclude that the subjective
value incoming employees achieved during their first job negotiation significantly correlates with
compensation satisfaction. Furthermore, early negotiation in careers is significant in determining the
future level of success at the company. In addition, people value opinions on the people who they value
so if the company values the person they will value the company. A study was done that determined

Why Elephants Are Scared Of Mice
Why Elephants Are Scared of Mice
Thousands of years ago in Africa, elephants roamed the Earth without a single worry. Their immense
size and strength had caused them to develop exaggerated pride, overconfidence and the belief that
they were superior to all other creatures. George in particular, was no exception. He was more egotistic
and arrogant than the entire elephant race combined. George only allowed the others to refer to himself
as Master George and was incredibly irritated when smaller creatures would even glance at him
without proper deference.
Due to physical weakness and miniature size, most field mice had grown completely obedient,
cowardly and feeble in character. Elephants such as George would often bully, hurt or even ... Show

George the elephant was of the opinion that he there was nobody as attractive or intelligent as himself.
For this reason he presumed that it was a waste of time for him to meet other female elephants to build
a family with. Therefore, George s only task was to find water for himself. Pedro on the other hand,
had recently encountered a stunning female mouse who he cared for a great deal. Although he was
challenged to find enough water for two beings, his size was finally an advantage due to the fact that
mice required less water than larger creatures.
After hours of searching for even the smallest bodies of water, Pedro eventually came across a sizeable
puddle. His hard work had payed off; he was ready to return home to provide water to his partner.
However, in order to continue his journey, Pedro needed several gulps of water himself. As Pedro
drank blissfully, he noticed a large silhouette approaching the puddle. He could recognize this creature
anywhere. It was an elephant.
It didn t take George a long time to discover puddles that had not yet dried. George only needed to
stand on his hind legs to see all the bodies of water around. He would then walk towards the pond, and
proceed to use his long trunk to suck up the remaining water. After having used his methods on four
different puddles, George casually strolled in the direction of the fifth. He was about to begin
consuming the water, when he

Tobacco Regulation Act Of 2003

1. Smoking in Philippine Setting
A joint collaborative effort of the Republic of the Philippines Department of Health (DOH) and
National Statistics Office, through DOH s100% Smoke Free Philippines campaign backed by
Philippine s Republic Act 9211, The Tobacco Regulation Act of 2003, conducted two related important
studies regarding smoking. Both researches were published last February 16, 2012 as factsheets for
public references. The first study focuses on Youth/Student population and the second one was on
adult. (http://www.smokefree.doh.gov.ph/index.php)
Under the youth research, Philippines Global Youth Tobacco Survey (GYTS), it concluded that 46.2%
of students had ever smoked cigarettes, which is tantamount to more than 1 in 5 students surveyed.
Almost 9 in 10 of students surveyed saw anti smoking media messages and over two thirds of them
think smoke from other is harmful. The study further concluded that approximately 86% of the current
smokers want to stop smoking.

Themes And Motifs In Quentin s Journey
Adventure is a clear theme and motif throughout his journey. While he loved the idea of finding
Margo, the quest to find her was ultimately better than finding her. Their trip spanned the entire East
Coast from Florida to New York. Speed pit stops, side stories of romance and even deadly cows were
encountered in the process of reaching his final destination. After shock and disbelief strikes himself
and the rest of his friends when they re left alone at a vacant and barren shack in the middle of
nowhere, his friends are ready to end the journey there and make it home in time for their senior prom.
Quentin had other plans. Quentin had gone blind, covered in the mask of love and made the choice to
stay alone, while his friends had begun their trip to return home. When Quentin finds Margo roaming
the streets of Agloe, he confesses his love, but instead of being met with joy, he discovers his
misdirection. Margo wasn t leaving clues for him to find her, she was leaving clues to remind him that
she was safe. Quentin now becomes enlightened on the fact that she didn t bring him the happiness that
he had always wanted but instead the experience did. The experience of going on an adventure was
what made him feel good. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is hinted throughout the novel when Quentin is given the assignment from his High school
English teacher to read Moby Dick and in his own mind becomes Captain Ahab. Captain Ahab also
believed finding that whale would make him feel happy, but he realized that getting there was a much
greater experience. Quentin remarkably refers himself to Captain Ahab while driving to New York,
foreshadowing the ending that he will realize that he would not actually capture Margo. This shows the
symbolism present in the movie and book. Sometimes whatever you think you are searching for might
not always give you the result you

Comparing The Determination Of Molarity Of Naoh By Titration
In this experiment we will be titrating the titrant sodium hydroxide against the analyte, which is the
substance being analyzed, hydrochloric acid. Titration is the process of analyzing base and acid added
together. The objective is to calculate the unknown concentration of hydrochloric acid with the
standardized solution of solid sodium hydroxide. The standardized solution is the known concentration
but since sodium hydroxide naturally reacts with air, we must first determine the true concentration of
NaOH by titrating against a weak acid, potassium hydrogen phthalate (KHP) that is the known
concentration. In the first experiment we will need to find the molarity of NaOH, which is determined
by multiplying the moles of KHP in volumetric

The Bloody Chamber Analysis
The gothic genre is a style of writing that is characterized by components of horror, disquietude, death
and romance. There are many conventions to the gothic genre which indulges details on gothic
architecture, spirituality and lucid descriptions in the first person along with dialogues. It is widely
accepted that both the novella, Carmilla and the short stories from The Bloody Chamber include these
aspects of gothic literature. Patriarchal dominance is often defined as a system of male domination and
in gothic fiction it is traditional for the male to in fact save the weak and fragile female out of danger;
further dominating his role. Although Carmilla was written during the Victorian Era, one would aspect
a male dominated patriarchal system to be followed, but Le Fanu doesn t succumb to the traditional but
in fact subverts it by casting the villain as female who preys on young and vulnerable women
ultimately for power. However, where Carmilla does indeed follow the traditional gothic horror
narrative where the victims are always presented as succumbing to a temptation that inevitably, has
metaphysical consequences; in Carmilla the victims die from an unknown malady. The Bloody
Chamber reviews on how unimpeachable fairy tales encompass strong socio political undertones such
as gender roles and presents the nameless heroine as woman whom is capable of changing her fate,
whereby she doesn t die like the other wives. Similarly, in Carmilla it can also be

Sex Work And Sex Workers
Sex workers attributions and systematic play in society have been explored throughout several
centuries of global narration. Sex workers have always been an entity throughout history, seen as both
symbols of beauty as well as patrons of Satan. The sex worker is not stagnant to one specific gender,
but typically has been demonstrated as a female with little identification or recognition in the within
modern day. Throughout the course of this semester we have explored examples of how sex work and
sex workers are documented within different cultures; along with the western perspective of sex in
relation to their country and their global position. The western perspective of sex work and the
perception of sex work in other nations have both parallels and opposing ideology of this type of labor.
This conflicting philosophy towards sex work has caused internal and external conflict in certain
countries. Yet, today it is clear how western influence has inserted itself into many cultures. The
traditional, political, social and religious beliefs of countries are being permeated with western
philosophy. This is and has created a divide amongst the native people of these nations; creating a
clash between traditional and western ideology. The division of western ideology and traditional belief
is particularly evident within Southern India, specifically focusing on sex workers. Sex workers in
Southern India known as Devadasi have been the center of conflict and the site of

Federal And Local Government Performance
Looking closely to the federal and local governments, some federal departments and city departments
provide quality services to the extent that people trust them more than the critics can understand.
Surprisingly, some Americans trust certain federal departments than the federal government while at
local government level, some people admire certain city programs than they like the city
administration. According to Goodsell (2015), Ann Arbor based company provided that in 2010 people
showed that they trusted the federal government for its quality service delivery in some of its
departments even though it declined afterward. At local government level. When measuring the federal
government s productivity, The Federal Productivity Index ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But the recent study of 2004 2005 found the opposite. They discovered that bus systems operated by
municipal and county work more efficiently because managers can handle the incompatible pressures
from different stakeholders (Goodsell, 2015). To some extent, government can save money through
contracting out some of it functions to the private companies. Moreover, there is also an assumption
that bureaucracy is growing larger day by day which weakens personal liberty. The size of growth
fluctuates, but the number is increasing at both state and local governments and decreasing at the
federal government.
Strengths of bureaucracy
More trained personnel than contract workers. It has more money to subsidize certain services when
private companies that operated bus systems went out of business. Moreover, most changes are
initiated by the bureaucrats not elected officials (Goodsell, 2015). Most celebrated innovations were
facilitated by bureaucrats. These are signs of their strengths.
Weakness of bureaucracy
Some government programs are poorly designed programs and it takes government some time to
rectify the system like the Office of Disability Adjudication and Review (ODAR) due to processing
time which spiked at some stage.
True or false stories about critics
It is untrue that all bureaucrats are arrogant to their clients and want to control them. This is dispelled
by the interviews that Goodsell

online as well. Beginning with summer, the climate range is from thirty four to eight six degrees

The Ethical Treatment of Prisoners
The ethical treatment of prisoners is a surprisingly contentious topic, considering how much is known
about the conditions and contexts in which human beings function optimally, both physically and
mentally. However, ethical discussions frequently have very little to do with what best allows human
beings to thrive and function, but instead concern themselves with formulating rules and standards of
acceptable behavior, usually out of the mistaken belief that these rules or standards represent some
kind of objective, universal ethics. A problem arises when dealing with prisoners, because in many
people s minds, the crime or offense of which a prisoner is accused warrants the denial of a certain
subset of their rights, but there is not universal acceptance of which rights may be denied and to what
extent, due to a disconnect between different modes of ethical thought. Believing in objective,
universal ethical standards actually means that anything is justifiable; because these imagined
objective standards do not actually exist, people are free to imagine them however they see fit. More
utilitarian ethics rooted in conceptions of the social contract are far more useful for determining social
policy, because they do not purport to represent objective ethical standards; rather, they acknowledge
that ethics and morality are socially constructed, and as such they seek to rationally determine the best
practices for achieving any particular goal. By examining two especially

How Is Mark Twain Racist
When taking a look at Mark Twain s Huckleberry Finn, racism is a large theme that seems to be
reoccurring. What some may think to be racism in Twain s words, can also be explained as, good story
telling appropriate to the era the story takes place in. Twain himself has been suggested as a racist
based on the fact that he uses the word nigger in his book. However, Twain was an avid abolitionist.
For those who claim that Twain was a racist must have only been looking out for themselves and not
those who are willing to learn about the past whether it be ugly or perfect. Racism was and forever will
be a dark part of the American past, and no one can change that, no matter how many books one may
alter.
In this book a number of dialects ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The main focus is to replace the 219 times the word nigger is used with slave. One would doubt that
Twain would input the N word into his book without having a good reason to do so. At the time of
writing this book, the Civil War was over and the general thought was that slavery and racism was
over. The thought then leads to the fact that Twain wanted to make a point of letting readers know that,
just because you have abolished slavery does not mean that the racism and bigotry has gone with it.
The repel of slavery made no difference to the racism card, and he wanted his Northern readers to
know it. When the argument of replacing the word nigger with slave one sees the issue with that. The
issue being that nigger in that time meant African American, not necessarily a slave. So looking at a
high school or college student in the future reading Huckleberry Finn for the first time and reading is
with the word slave the story loses its effect on the reader. It does not give a sense of the time, it would
only give a vibe that something is not right in the story. When reading this story for the first time, one
must have an open mind and not pay attention to little things like racism in this book. The main plot is
not, lets raft down a river and see how racist we can be. As one reads the story flows, and part of that
flow is to allow discrepancy in racial slurs. It is okay to have the

Analysis Of The NBA Finalss
The Marquee match up in the 2017 NBA Finals will surround Lebron James vs. Stephen Curry.
Despite not matching up positions wise, James and Curry will meet in their third consecutive NBA
Finals, having split the pair. Just like in a good ol fashion game of 1 on 1, the third game decides the tie
break. Positions wise, James and Kevin Durant will be the main story of the finals with Curry and
Kyrie Irving holding equal importance. But perhaps the most impactful match up is Klay Thompson
and J.R Smith. The Warriors have a big 4, while the Cavaliers have a traditional big 3. Contrary to
popular belief, a big 4 is not what the Warriors have had throughout these playoffs. In the postseason,
Klay Thompson has averaged a meager 14.4 points per ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The stark contrast between both players may not even be in their pure production level, but rather in
their confidence. J.R Smith s confidence seems to be at an all time high. Klay Thompson s seems to be
at its lowest point since his rookie and sophomore seasons, if that. Their roles in the offense differ,
however. J.R Smith plays about 25 minutes a game, to Klay s 35. Thompson is looked upon to do more
for Golden State, which includes but is not limited to: guarding the opposing team s best perimeter
player, coming off screens for threes, and a higher volume of shots attempted. However, it is J.R Smith
who s production will be more vital. The Cavaliers thankfully have many safety nets for Smith in the
event of lackluster play. The addition of Kyle Korver gives Cleveland flexibility at the 2 guard spot,
with a deadeye three point shooter who can keep up with the likes of the splash brothers in the long
ball department. A defensive liability admittedly, the Cavs also have Iman Shumpert at their disposal.
A great defender who plays better off ball defense than Smith, Shump often times has a sporadic
offensive game which comes and goes. J.R Smith will be the bearer of tremendous burden. Looked
upon to be that fourth scorer for Cleveland s front line, Smith will have to come into the lineup
prepared to play smart above all things, and execute at an efficient rate. The Warriors also have
flexibility and

Opinions always play an important role in decision making. Businesses seek consumer opinions about
their products and services to improvise them, consumers seek opinions of other consumers to get the

they know. On the other hand, if a relative, friend, or someone you know ate a sausage and got anal

Lin Manuel Miranda Accomplishments From performing in musicals and television shows, composing music, and writing Broadway musicals, Lin Manuel Miranda is one of the most influential celebrities of recent years. He has done so many amazing things with his musical theatre talents including writing two Broadway musicals and writing music for some Disney movies. Many people know about his accomplishments with Broadway, but what they don t know is why he started doing musical theatre in the first place. His mother is a Puerto Rican immigrant, and she works as a clinical psychologist. His father, also a Puerto Rican immigrant, is a political consultant. • 3. Economic Indicators Paper Economic Indicators Paper What does it mean when someone refers to the health of an economy? Furthermore, how can one classify an economy? Americans love to quantify data. Because of this inherent need to compare data, economists have developed a way to collect nearly every type of statistics that may reveal the general health of the economy. These statistics actually tell if the economy is productive and efficient or if it is slow and inefficient. Included in these statistics are Gross Domestic Product (GDP), Consumer Price Index (CPI), Unemployment Rate, Retail Sales, Producer Price Index (PPI), and Personal Income. Included in this paper, Team A defines the preceding six indicators, and describes their status. Additionally, a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There have been many indicators that have been developed to measure inflation. The CPI measures inflation as experienced by consumers through their everyday expenses. The Producer Price Index (PPI) measures inflation during the early stages of business development, such as production and sales. The best measure of inflation for a given application depends upon how one intends to use this data. CPI allows businesses to adjust prices based upon a comparison of the current cost of a defined set of goods and/or services to the cost of those same goods at a time in the past. It is also, the best measure to use to translate retail sales and hourly earnings into real or inflation free dollars (2005). The CPI is the most widely used measure of inflation and is sometimes viewed as an indicator of the effectiveness of government economic policy. It provides information about price changes in the Nation s economy to government, business, labor, and private citizens and is used by them as a guide to making economic decisions. In addition, the President, Congress, and the Federal Reserve Board use trends in the CPI to aid in formulating fiscal and monetary policies. Retail Sales Retail sales, represent an important component in the economy. Products sold by companies, such as Target and local retail stores are tracked and reported to the Census Bureau. The Census Bureau compiles this data on a monthly basis ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Karl Popper And The Scientific Method Karl Popper is commonly regarded as one of the greatest philosophers of science in the 20th Century. He is well known for his rejection of the inductivist viewpoint of the scientific method, in which one uses observation to propose a law to generalize an observed pattern, and later confirm that law through more observation. Popper states that induction cannot be logically justified (Popper 14). Inductivism relies on the process of inductive reasoning which is a logical process in which multiple premises, all thought to be true and found to be true most of the time, are combined to obtain a conclusion and in many cases formulate a law or theory. Popper rejected the inductivist viewpoint in favor of a theory called empirical falsification which holds that a theory can never be proven, but it can be falsified, and therefore it can and needs to be scrutinized through experimentation. In his work Conjectures and Refutations, Popper discussed several aspects of induction including the topics of conjectures (opinions or conclusions formed on the basis of incomplete information) or tentative theories and refutations (ways to refute an argument, opinion, testimony, doctrine, or theory, through contradicting evidence) or the acts of disproving arguments through counterexamples (Oxford). Popper opines that a significant problem with the scientific method is that scientists get so caught up in evidence that supports a specific conjecture that they either 1) fail to consider ... • 5. The Rage Against The Machine It was a time of long hair and stealth window escapes at the midnight hour; a time of skipping class, anti establishment sentiment spewing forth from my foul, juvenile, remorseless mouth. I was mad at the world on the grounds that I felt as though I had been dealt a lousy hand in this life. In my infinite teenage wisdom, I had convinced myself if I could not everything my way, I would set the world ablaze and watch it burn. Full of aggressive energy, anger was the emotion with which I chose to express myself. Naturally, I found fuel for the fire in a band named Rage against the Machine. Front man Zach de la Rocha put the emotions I was experiencing into a lyrical poetic, militant, rap core metal form. It was unlike anything I had ever heard before: pure, intellectual, and most of all, unfiltered. Initially, I was drawn to Rage because of their sound and musical talent, with their unparalleled ability to blend various genres of music and produce something authentic in a world of simulacra. On the other hand, I had little knowledge of events, names, and issues that this band was bringing to my attention: real life sociological issues like economic inequality, political prisoners held captive in our own country, brute force control, and the reality that freedom is a hoodwink illusion. These are topics that I have evolved to feel passionately about and of which I wish others were more conscious and aware. Subject matters that are so heinous that one does not actually desire or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The anthropological literature tackling the topic of romantic love concerns possible factors that make love an integral part of general social structure and marriage in certain societies, such as modes of subsistence dependence, sexual equality and post marital residence rules. One cannot overstate the significance that lies in understanding the relationship between love and marriage, as both are critical elements of humanity. Understanding love as a functioning agent in maintaining marital stability allows us to better understand an important part of who we are as humans. Hence, as a basic building block of human social structure, romantic ·love and its role in the maintenance of society is an incredibly important area of research. Much of the anthropological community agrees that romantic love does constitute a valid area of research, and hopes to repair the general oversight of love that occurred in earlier ethnographic work (Jankowiak 1992 and Fischer 1992). In order to analyze the relationship between romantic love and marriage, it is necessary to compare current thinking with respect to this theme. It is also important to research and discuss love in terms of its functional role in society, or more appropriately, its functional role in

Regardless of whether or not she believed that herself, that was the common thought of the Middle Ages. It was believed that the female mind was inadequately equipped, compared to that of a males, and it was frowned upon for a woman to show that she might be more intelligent than any male. According to Williams and Echols, women physicians were often charged as witches by male physicians or tangled up in legal issues because they competed with the males. • 11. The Importance Of Football In High School When students go from junior high to a high school, they will see and witness new things that the school will provide throughout the four years. New clubs, activities, things that they will never forget for next couple years. If you re really wanting to have a good time at school, you can be a part of a sport instead of being in P.E. in the first two years of high school. There are many sport that students could join like, but there is one that people are really worried about young students could be harmed. Football is a sport that has a lot of contact and, as seen on T.V., people have been sent to the hospital for serious head injuries, some might even reach the point of dying. Many schools have themselves, should young student be played in high school? Well, some might say it is not safe, but I think student should have the opportunity to make the football team. Young teens have many perspectives than other teenagers, no one is the same. Many teens would want to join football and there are those who would not like to even jog or would go outside. It would be a good way for those who want to get a daily exercise and lose some calories, these young athletes would feel good about themselves to know they are in a sport and they get some exercise into their bodies. Some young teenagers would not want to even go for walk, a nice, easy jog, or even want to sweat at all. • 12. The Process Of Conducting Research Procedure The process of conducting research is to gather information that relates to your I search question. The I search question that I am seeking answers to happens to be; what is the definition of family in today s society? There are many methods of investigation that can be used to answer this question, but I have limited it to eight methods. The eight methods I have chosen are going to give me in depth information about my purposed I search question. The first method of investigation for my I search project that would best help me gather information for my project is interviewing both in person and by email. The interview process is beneficial to my project because it gives me in depth and comprehensive information. The interviews will consist of ordinary people in todays, society both younger and older the young will be aged from four to thirty and old will consist of anyone over thirty. I am doing the interviews to gain answers to my secondary questions which are based on gender and age. Also interviews provide personal experiences and better understanding of the subject matter in this case family. The second method of investigation will be scholarly journals. I am using journals because family is a big topic to be covered and it has been discussed and written about over many years. Many psychologists have written about what defines a family and how it has changed over time. These Journals will help me show that the definition is outdated and how it should be ... • 13. Breaching Reflection Paper During syllabus week, I was immediately interested in the breaching experiment. I have always been interested in the challenging the mundane aspects of our culture and seeing how people react. A breaching experiment is an experiment that is used to observe and record reactions of people in which an individual breaks a social rule or norm. Breaching experiments are important because even if you don t realize it, following the rules that have been set around us and acting like everyone else shows that you are supporting the structure of society. Also, one can promote a different reality when someone acts different or against the grain of society. The norm that I am breaching is the courteous act of picking up papers when someone drops them. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I made sure to throw the papers all over the place so that I drew attention to myself. My first attempt was a little weak because I wasn t quite skilled on fake tripping and I probably looked like someone who was fake tripping. At first, I got a lot of strange looks, like Did that girl just fake trip? so I quickly picked up all the papers and ran into the bathroom to hide. After I collected myself from the embarrassment, I found another seat and waited about 10 minutes before I tried again. My second attempt went better, my fake trip was a little less flamboyant but still believable. It took a few seconds before a young man bent down to help me. I got up and started to walk away quickly in the opposite direction. I walked fast enough so that I could go into Crossroads and spy throughout one of the windows which was pretty convenient. The guy definitely had a confused look on his face. He looked around, got up, and left the papers spread out on the floor. After he walked away I picked the papers up and sat down to wait again. The third time was definitely different. After my perfected fake trip, a group of girls stopped to help me. Out of a group of four girls, two bent down and started to pick up my papers. The moment I started to walk in the opposite direction a girl said, What the fuck? . I tried so hard not to have a reaction so I kept walking with my head down. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 14. Behavior Change Reflection I thoroughly enjoyed the behavior change program. I started this program thinking one way about yoga and left with a completely different point of view. I now have a new work out that I love doing and will continue to do well into the future. For my weekly goals, I did meet them most weeks however, there were some weeks where I felt I did not reach the goal I set for myself. That was to be expected so it never derailed my motivation when I came up short on my goals. I did meet all of my long term goal. In the end I gained more flexibility while still improving my strength and maintain my body composition. I also found a workout that I enjoy doing which distresses and relaxes me. The only change that needs to be made to continue my progress is that I need to devote more time to working on my flexibility, even more than I already do. Whenever I have free time I should spend 15 20 minutes working on my flexibility so that I can eventually get to where I want to be. Before, once I finished my yoga workouts for the week is was sometimes hard to find the motivation to work on my flexibility during my down time. That is now something I would like to change. • 15. The Importance Of The English Revolution And The American... English history played a major role in the American Revolution by introducing new and revolutionary ideas to the public. Several events, such as the English Revolution and the restoration of the monarchy also influenced the mindset during the war. The successful overthrow of Charles I and the attempted establishment of an English republic probably inspired many colonists to fight against King George III s tyranny. Enlightenment ideals such as social contract and basic rights also influenced the war. The colonists felt that King George III was violating their right to privacy, assembly, and speech. Therefore, the colonists had the right to revolt because the government was failing its main purpose according to social contract. British tax and economic policies such as the Stamp Act, Townshend Act, Sugar Act, and the Navigation Acts angered colonists. They believed the Parliament had no right to impose these taxes and laws on them because the colonists weren t represented in government. As a result, several Sons of Liberty members, disguised as Native Americans, boarded a British cargo ship and dumped tea into the Boston Harbor as protest. Angered by the act, Parliament passed the Intolerable Acts (Coercive Acts), punishing the Bostonians for the Boston Tea Party by blockading the Boston Harbor until restitution was made for the tea. The colonists also resented the Navigation Acts, which effectively created a British trading monopoly. Cheap items were often highly taxed, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Ricky Williams and Social Anxiety Disorder Essay Ricky Williams and Social Anxiety Disorder Introduction As regular people of society, we tend to put celebrities up on a pedestal and view them as a higher being. We often think that they have perfect lives, having everything they could ever need even though, this is not the case. There are many situations, problems and other situations that occur behind the scenes that we do not know about that these celebrities face every day. Some of our heroes who we think are perfect may actually suffer from psychiatric disorders. One of the best running backs to ever play the game of football goes by the name of Ricky Williams. The alienation he felt from peers, caused Ricky to keep to himself most of the time and contributed to his shyness. In school, Ricky was a good student academically, but was seen a behavior problem due to his ability to control his anger. Peers and teachers considered him a bully and someone who liked to pick on smaller kids. Because of his behavior, Ricky s mom had him transferred to another school. This change of environment proved to be the best move for Williams. His grades improved and he started to excel in sports. • 18. Maleic Acid And Fumaric Acid Lab Report INTRODUCTION Maleic acid and Fumaric acid are both compounds belonging to the carboxylic acids class. In this experiment, we formed the two isomers of 1,2 ethylenedicarboxylic acid and tested the solubility and melting points of both of these products. Both of these compounds involve a carbon carbon double bond that is composed of one σ bond and one π bond. The overlap of sp2 hybrid orbitals forms the σ bond, and one empty p orbital forms the π bond. This process is illustrated in the figure below: Sp2 hybrid orbitals: Unhybridized p orbital: (3 σ bonds) (1 π bond) _1 _1 _1 _1 Molecules with double bonds are alkenes, and they have restricted rotation around the double bond so they tend to form the cis and trans geometric ... Maleic acid is a cis isomer and Fumaric acid is a trans isomer of carboxylic acids. 2. It is not reasonable to perform a percent yield calculation separately for the two products because the filtrate reserved from the formation of maleic acid was used to produce fumaric acid in the second part of the experiment, and we could not determine how much maleic acid dissolved without additional data. Unfortunately, The Ascent of Money by Niall Ferguson is not a book where you will likely reread it, instead you will be saying Is it finally over? Ferguson explains how money came to be in our society by starting off with the first use of currency to the end where money has become something we cannot even touch. As a person who is not interested in the history of money, but interested in my net worth going up, I believe The Ascent of Money by Niall Ferguson did a mediocre job on attempting to persuade us on how money is one of the backbones of human history. Initially, the first issue of the book I did not like, jumping from place to place on the timeline. Ferguson begins with how, before money came about, we primitive peoples chanced upon each other, it seems, they were more likely to fight over scarce resources (food and fertile women) than to engage in commercial exchange. (Ferguson 19). Back then we did not need money; instead we just took what we needed. Then Ferguson jumped right into how the Spanish found gold and silver, then the Roman Empire, and then Mesopotamia. Ferguson should have followed a timeline and it would have made the book less confusing to read. In class, I understood what was going on in between those timelines, however if somebody just picked up the book and started reading it, they would be confused especially with how we came from the Spanish to ... While many works of literature belong in the mystery genre, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle s Sherlock Holmes series stands out the most. Sir Arthur Conan Doyle s famous literary works, A Study in Scarlet, The Hound of the Baskervilles, and A Scandal in Bohemia share a common theme: the importance of justice and the pursuit of righteousness. Sir Conan Arthur Doyle was born on May 22nd, 1859 in Edinburgh, Scotland. The Doyles were originally from London, but Arthur s father Charles Altamont Doyle and mother Mary Foley Doyle moved to Scotland to pursue Charles career in architecture. Arthur pursued a degree in medicine at the University of Edinburgh, where he became bored of the subject and excelled instead in sports. Yet, at the University of Edinburgh he met who would later be the model of the famous Sherlock Holmes, Dr. Joseph Bell. College was also where Doyle became disenchanted by organized religion, which can also be seen in his stories later on in his life. After graduating medical school he struggled to make a living out of being a doctor, and released his first short story A Study in Scarlet in 1886. There are many conventions to the gothic genre which indulges details on gothic architecture, spirituality and lucid descriptions in the first person along with dialogues. It is widely accepted that both the novella, Carmilla and the short stories from The Bloody Chamber include these aspects of gothic literature. Patriarchal dominance is often defined as a system of male domination and in gothic fiction it is traditional for the male to in fact save the weak and fragile female out of danger; further dominating his role. Although Carmilla was written during the Victorian Era, one would aspect a male dominated patriarchal system to be followed, but Le Fanu doesn t succumb to the traditional but in fact subverts it by casting the villain as female who preys on young and vulnerable women ultimately for power. However, where Carmilla does indeed follow the traditional gothic horror narrative where the victims are always presented as succumbing to a temptation that inevitably, has metaphysical consequences; in Carmilla the victims die from an unknown malady. • 32. The Ethical Treatment of Prisoners The ethical treatment of prisoners is a surprisingly contentious topic, considering how much is known about the conditions and contexts in which human beings function optimally, both physically and mentally. However, ethical discussions frequently have very little to do with what best allows human beings to thrive and function, but instead concern themselves with formulating rules and standards of acceptable behavior, usually out of the mistaken belief that these rules or standards represent some kind of objective, universal ethics. A problem arises when dealing with prisoners, because in many people s minds, the crime or offense of which a prisoner is accused warrants the denial of a certain subset of their rights, but there is not universal acceptance of which rights may be denied and to what extent, due to a disconnect between different modes of ethical thought. Believing in objective, universal ethical standards actually means that anything is justifiable; because these imagined objective standards do not actually exist, people are free to imagine them however they see fit. More utilitarian ethics rooted in conceptions of the social contract are far more useful for determining social policy, because they do not purport to represent objective ethical standards; rather, they acknowledge that ethics and morality are socially constructed, and as such they seek to rationally determine the best practices for achieving any particular goal. The thought then leads to the fact that Twain wanted to make a point of letting readers know that, just because you have abolished slavery does not mean that the racism and bigotry has gone with it. The repel of slavery made no difference to the racism card, and he wanted his Northern readers to know it. When the argument of replacing the word nigger with slave one sees the issue with that.
