Iran Case Study
Moving on to my second point, I would like to discuss the nature of the sanctions implemented on Iran
due to the nuclear issue more in detail so we can get a better realization of what the public civilians in
Iran have gone through. It is worth mentioning that Iran has been facing sanctions with respect to the
selling of any aircraft and any parts related to them and even the maintenance and inspection of
airplanes since 1979. Regardless of the reasons behind it, for a moment let s imagine how would it be
if only one of us, set aside a group of 200 or more passengers consisting of children and women, were
to fly on an airplane that was at least 36 years old, and the parts on it had been smuggled through back
channels and proxies and there ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As a case in point, I can personally, as someone who has witnessed these tough situations firsthand,
tell you that all costs and prices, from the price of a bottle of milk or a loaf of bread to the cost of
going from one end of the city to the other, more or less doubled due to the sanctions. Again I would
like to encourage you to just imagine how terrible would it be if the cost of transportation or anything
else in New York City were to double over night.
All the above mentioned on one side, the trouble of not being able to purchase certain medicines and
foods on the other was the most painful of all. Officially, the imposers of these sanctions had excluded
the purchase of medical supplies and certain food from the sanctions; however, here is a part of a
recent study by the Washington DC based Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars:
Even when the most reputable American and European pharmaceutical companies are involved, and
their lawyers have completed all the necessary paperwork from the US Treasury s Office of Foreign
Assets Control (OFAC), nearly all banks that Iran deals with prefer to err on the side of caution. Their
hesitation is understandable given that a mistake could earn a bank the wrath of the US Treasury
Department and fines that exceed $1 billion. The recent experience of a reputable Iranian
pharmaceutical group shows the magnitude of the problem. When a senior company representative
flew to Paris to present a French bank with documentation

Aspects Of Mother Nature
1.1 Mother Nature
The sun, with all those planets revolving around it and dependent upon it, can still ripen a bunch of
grapes as if it had nothing else in the universe to do. Galileo Galilei (1564 1642), the Italian physicist,
mathematician, astronomer and philosopher
From ancient mythologies to recent religions, Mother Nature is eternally the point of origin. She is the
source of creation. Figures and symbols of women representing mother earth and Mother Nature are
timeless. In ancient times, goddesses were the symbol for fertility, hospitality and life saver. The
Nature that cradles us is so ancient and so new. It is so marvelous and yet so simple. Her beauty and
grace, her love and affection gives us our life to live. We live the life ... Show more content on

The attributes of Mother Nature emerges to us in all forms of feeling, in sweet love and childlike
smile, in wild and explosive force of destruction, in consuming anger. She is not indifferent with any
of her children. There is no dearth of kindness in Mother Nature; but in our blindness we do not see
them. We take our mother and her bounty for granted and go on depleting her resources to meet our
greed. Over time, if we do not change our course, our Mother Nature will not remain the same. No
more can any sensible person take this planet as the provider of resources for man, yielding new
largesse to every demand without limit. Her resources will be exhausted. We will value them only
when they are gone.
In Mother Nature, everything is integrated. Everything comes from her and returns to her. She
manifests herself in so many forms. She assumes the form of feminine earth, fertile and bringing forth
earthly creation. She lies all around us with such a balancing act and such affection for all of her
children! She smells sweet and blossoms forth with such a breath taking variety of forms and colors.
Her hues are breathtaking. Her compassion is never wasted, whether we seize it or not; but, if we live
in accordance with nature, we will be

Designer Babies Research Paper
Designer Babies Why do people want designer babies? Couples in this generation have been choosing
to go through with methods to make sure that their child is made the way they want, also known as
designer babies. A designer baby is one whose genetic make up has been selected by genetic
engineering to ensure the presence or absence of particular genes or characteristics. People may use
this to avoid passing on gender linked genetic diseases such as blindness, deafness, autism and
cancers. Some may also use this as a way of having a baby of the sex opposite to the one they may
already have. This can also be called family balancing to have children of both genders in a family.
PGD The procedure used for designing a child is called pre implantation ... Show more content on

The PGD process has also enhanced children and increased the human lifespan up to 30 years. With
these technologies improving, it keeps up to date with modern technology and gives us a wider variety
of procedures and choices to choose from. Although there are positive things that come from the use
of genetic engineering, there are also cons associated with genetically modifying your baby. The first
one is that the technology is not 100% safe yet and the process is still being experimented on. This
also means that if it is not done properly and carefully, the embryo could be terminated. It is also
unknown yet if modifying the babies could affect family trees and if they may or may not have
problems later on in life. While couples are using PGD to prevent disorders, some want to use it for
personal preference reasons. For e.g. wanting a baby with blue eyes, blonde hair and intelligence. This
also means that there could be a gap in society where designer babies would be better looking and
smarter. This could damage our ability to change as humans and lead to loss of individuality from the
popular interests like intelligence and

Accused Amendments
Rights of the Accused
In the amendments there are four that protect people who have been accused for a crime or arrested
for a crime. These are the fourth, fifth, sixth, and the eighth amendments that give specifics on how
the process should go and how the arrested person is to go through it. In the amendment they even say
that the police must read you your rights when they arrest you, and if they don t they can get in
trouble.
Before a person is arrested the police usually need a probable cause to arrest them, or a solid reason to
arrest someone. The same goes with the police coming to your house to search it, they need a warrant,

Cloudy Project
The problem the study is addressing is whether people are more likely to smile back to a stranger on
sunny days or cloudy days.
2. What are the questions investigated or hypotheses tested?
The hypotheses that was tested was that people are more likely to reciprocate a smile to a passerby on
a sunny day rather than a cloudy day.
3. What previous work or theories informed the study?
There have been several studies done that show human social relationships and behavior are positively
affected by good weather. On sunny days, people are more willing to answer interview questions. On
sunny days, people are more likely to leave a better tip for servers. On cloudy days, it has been found
that college applications are more heavily weighted on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Are the results statistically significant? If there are mixed results, identify which are significant and
which are not.
When they were first analyzing the data, they realized there was not a significant difference in cloudy
or sunny days when there was a smile in return. To account for effects that the variables may have had,
a 2x2x2 log linear analysis was applied. After more evaluation they were able to pinpoint some
differences and identify what was important.
11. What is the pattern of results for each broad question that was addressed?
Overall, passersby reciprocated a smile more readily on sunnier days than on cloudier days. It seemed
that both men and women were more likely to smile back if the confederate was a woman. They saw
that men were less likely to smile back to another man.

Multiple Characters In Anna Karenina By Lev Tolstoy
In Anna Karenina, Lev Tolstoy describes multiple characters in depth and gives the readers the
opportunity to create and change their opinions about most of them as the plot develops. The novel
begins with a rather striking quote, taken from Romans 12:19: Vengeance is mine, I will repay
(Tolstoy XXV). This sentence s meaning in it s biblical context and full length, is that it is not up to
people to punish others for their wrong doings, but that God will eventually take revenge and repay
them, for it is his right and duty to do so. Focusing on the meaning of this excerpt, I believe that it is
connected to the outcomes of Anna and Vronsky s affair, but also to that of the life of Dolly
Oblonskaya and her husband, as well as other characters . In this paper I will support my interpretation
of the reasons why I believe that despite the fact that Anna Karenina appears to suffer the
consequences of her love affair with Alexei Vronsky because she is a woman more than her brother
Stepan Oblonsky, the faith that the author assigns to her with allusions since the beginning of the
book, is connected to the fact that cheating is fundamentally wrong according to Tolstoy s perspective,
and that her punishment is a consequence of the above mentioned quotation. To sustain my
understanding of this theme I will make a comparison between Anna and some of the other main
characters who are involved in a romantic relationship or, as in Dolly s case, stuck in an unhappy
marriage.

Psycho, Directed And Produced By Alfred Hitchcock
The psychological thriller film, Psycho, was directed and produced by Alfred Hitchcock in 1960
changing many aspects in the world of the motion picture as we know it today. Through its
unconventional and very daring way of showing the audience, female undergarments, scaring the
audience into not wanting to shower for years with an onscreen murder seen as never seen before, and
even with something seemingly prosaic by showing a flushing toilet. Hitchcock managed to captivate
and scare people around the world, as well as enthrall the minds of many other movie directors and
producers until this day. Hitchcock decided to film Psycho in black and white for three reasons 1) he
thought the bloody murder might just be too much for audiences and used chocolate syrup as the
blood swirling down the drain, 2) his love for the French horror film Diabolique (1955) which was
shot in black and white, and 3) Cost cutting. Psycho is based on Robert Bloch s 1959 novel, which
was inspired, by the grave robber and murderer from Wisconsin Ed Gein. Following the opening titles,
with the audience expecting to be introduced to a main character, Psycho instead starts with an
extremely long shot to begin a scene, showing a busy city in the middle of the day. This is not the
typical setting of a thriller. The ELS allows the audience to predict what is going to happen but also
gives the idea that the Psycho is somewhere in the city. After Marion stole the money and is now on
her way to her

Arthurian Legend Essay
Arthurian Legend
Even though the Arthur legend is hundreds of years old, our culture today is still fascinated with the
idea of the Round Table and the love triangle between Arthur, Lancelot, and Guinevere. There are
movies and books galore to read about the different takes on the legend of Arthur. However, it makes
one wonder if our culture really understands the Arthurian legend. Especially in the movies the central
idea of a literary work can be lost. Compared to Malory s Le Morte d Arthur have movies lost sight of
what the Arthurian legend tries to teach?
Le Morte d Arthur has several different themes working within in for Hollywood to choose from. An
easy one for moviemakers is the glorification of the hero. In Malory s work ... Show more content on

Unfortunately, the Round Table is destroyed by the above mentioned betrayal.
Another theme that is also borrowed from Beowulf is the idea of the sword representing destruction.
The sword in the stone is what starts a great deal of the trouble. The sword is what continues to start
such trouble. Merlin warns Arthur that the sword is better off in its sheath but Arthur does not listen.
Instead, the sword is used to try to solve problems and ends up creating many more.
The last major theme was a common one during the time Malory was writing: courtly love. This
theme is definitely something our culture has dwelled on. The idea of two lovers who cannot be
together because of marriage is all too interesting for the culture that is also obsessed with soap
operas. One could say that many more movies that do not even mention Arthur could be based on the
Arthurian legend if they imitate courtly love. Any movie with a love triangle could be game. However,
the key element of courtly love is that there must be a third party. If the love is not forbidden it just is
not worth the trouble.
The first movie examined for the comparison was Disney s The Sword in the Stone. Without even
watching it, one knows there are striking differences. One main reason for several differences if that
the movie is a cartoon and is geared towards children. A children s movie is not going to try to

Macbeth Tragic Hero
In Shakespeare s play Macbeth, the main character goes from being a virtuous war hero at the
beginning of the story to a malevolent tyrant towards the end. This defines Macbeth as a tragic hero
throughout the play. A tragic hero is a literary character who makes a judgment error that inevitably
leads to his/her own destruction. Not only does he fit the definition of a tragic hero, but he also
exhibits many important characteristics that shape this description. These characteristics include being
an individual of high noble birth and incorporating many admirable heroic qualities. Further, tragic
heroes are doomed to make a serious error in judgement and are responsible for their own fate. As
well as this, they have a tragic flaw, leading them ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In response to the first murderer telling Macbeth that Fleance had escaped the murder, Macbeth states,
The young snake that escaped will in time become poisonous and threatening (3.4.32 33). This shows
how Macbeth realized how he made an irreversible mistake as he knew that the witches predicted
Banquo s sons to eventually become king. Therefore, Fleance could be a threat to his throne. Before
this occurred, Macbeth also says, Then comes my fit again. I had else been perfect, Whole as the
marble, founded as the rock, As broad and general as the casing air. But now I am cabined, cribbed,
confined, bound in To saucy doubts and fears (3.4.23 27). This event proves how Macbeth is worried
about his throne as confidence in safety and innocence collapses. Now that Fleance has escaped as
well, Macbeth is put up with the greater threat of trying to find him again later on in order kill him.
This allows Fleance to stay safe for a while, and become a larger threat to Macbeth as he is becoming
more prepared and older for the throne if something were to happen to Macbeth. After he realizes that
he had made an irreversible mistake, Macbeth then accepts responsibility for his own fate. Upon
seeing the ghost of Banquo at his banquet, Macbeth says, You can t say I did it. Don t shake your
bloody head at me (3.4.59 60). This highlights how Macbeth is unconsciously facing and accepting
the responsibility for his own fate. Since Macbeth saw a ghost of his best friend that he killed, this
shows how guilt is definitely on his mind, and how he must be ashamed of his actions. If Macbeth
honestly didn t face and accept responsibility for his own fate, he would have disregarded the ghost
altogether and probably would have went with the assumption of having too much wine when he first
came in contact with the ghost. Towards the end of the play, Macbeth decides to leave his castle and

the atmosphere. Arthur Conan Doyle s character, Sherlock Holmes, lived in Victorian London during
the 19th century. His perception of the streets is portrayed as a dark and isolated environment. The
atmosphere was far from welcoming. The streets were overrun with crime, beggars and prostitutes.

A.C. Doyle reinforces its undesirable presence by describing it as vile . The reader will instantly see
that it is a dirty, eerie place where no one would want to be. It is also personified as lurking which
gives it a sense of hidden mystery. Holmes and Watson s journey is prolonged and tiresome as they
travel through: the endless succession of sombre and deserted streets This description is effective
because it makes the reader think of the continuous series of streets which have no definite end and
lead to nowhere. The adjective sombre makes the reader think of a dull, dismal space containing
emptiness. Everything Watson and Holmes pass along their way appears to be gloomy and depressing:

Greek And Roman Influences In The Hunger Games, By Suzanne...
The movie or the book the Hunger Games came out with a bang when it first hit theaters or the
shelves of the bookstores. It was dubbed as one of the best films or books to read, interestingly enough
it was a remake of the stories or myths most people heard when they were younger, but modernized
and turned into a collage of all the best roman and Greek stories. Suzanne Collins brilliantly combined
the Greek and Roman influences to make the movie/book unforgettable. By using stories from the
romans and Greeks, to the Greek warriors Suzanne Collins demonstrates how she really drew
inspiration for the book and movie.

From The Bluest Eye By Toni Morrison
In Toni Morrison s From the Bluest Eye, she writes about a girl who is in conflict with the societal
norms of the time period. The girl was given dolls to play with, but she does not understand why she
has to play with them and what makes the dolls beautiful. It is made clear that the girl never wanted
dolls and nobody ever asked her what she wanted as a toy, yet the society she lives in tells her that
girls play with dolls and nothing else. This story raises several interesting ideas, such as why were
dolls made and why does society want girls to play with dolls? A larger question that the story raises is
whether or not there is negative or positive effects on girls who play with dolls. Dolls have been
around for a long time, but no one knows how dolls were created or their main purpose. Some
research found that Barbie were created for various reasons. In addition, dolls also started many
controversies among parents and scientists. There have been various studies conducted concerning the
role of dolls on various aspects of a girl s life. Some of the studies conducted focused on girls playing
with various types of dolls and how the dolls affected their self esteem and body image. Other studies

Land Reform In The 1940 s And 1950s
In this paper I will discuss land reforms in the 1940 s and 1950 s and how they are affecting society
still today. According to Dictionary.com land reform is a governmental program that takes land from
farmers and redistributes it among the landless
Land reforms are the changing of laws and regulations that make it possible for lands to be
redistributed. This usually results in the transfer of land from a person or corporation that holds a lot
of it into the hands of a person who has no land. This is mostly done to agricultural land as a part of a
governmental property redistribution program . The transfer of landownership may be completed
without an exchange of compensation. When compensation is given the amounts vary depending on
the land. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Other reasons that people support land reform is because it helps to regulate conflicting land laws, in
cases where formal and informal land laws may conflict with each other. This is beneficial to a

The Importance Of Parent And Child Relationships
Amongst many of the important relationships formed between people throughout life, a parent and a
child s relationship is the most important. Parent and children relationships are formed from either one
s biological parent or their adopted parents. The relationship between these two types of formation are
always formed. It s obvious this relationship will be life lasting, since a person s parents will always
be involved in their life. The factors that play out when these relationships first start to form are, the
social, physical, and cognitive development. The term parent child relationship refers to the unique
and enduring bond between a caregiver and his or her child. To understand the parent child
relationship, we must look at the ways that parents and children interact with one another physically,
emotionally, and socially. (Dance Schissel 2017)
Over time theories have arisen that parents are teachers to their children. In other words, what a child
learns comes from their parents first, and then other influences throughout their life. Lev Vygotsky
viewed parents as masters and the child as an apprentice in learning. (Dance Schissel 2017). Diana
Baumrind researched that parenting styles come from three different types. Authoritarian, are parents
that are very strict, unbending and inflexible. These types of parents tend to control every aspect of
their children s life. The second parenting style she came up with was, authoritative parents are firm,
loving and kind.

Karl Marx and Humanity
Karl Marx, a modern German philosopher, forever altered our perception of who we are by offering a
description of human nature that differs from traditional thinking. Although Marx s theories were
groundbreaking, they do not escape criticism. More specifically, differing views are offered for both
the importance of labor and how our society shapes our nature. In this essay, I will be addressing these
two opposing views and arguing for Marx s description of human nature.
Marx rejects the idea that human nature consists of any certain, particular activity. He instead puts
forward the idea that our human nature is a product of the society we live in (Wall, 2005). Marx
accepts the notion that humans are rational, thinking things and expands ... Show more content on

Marx suggests that the Bourgeoisie was able to exploit the working class because it is the ruling class
in a capitalistic society, thus its actions are backed and enforced by the State (Wall, 2005).
From his disdain of Capitalism arose Marx s idea of the perfect society for human nature,
Communism. Communism is a system in which there is no private property, no social classes, and no
excess capital. The government essentially has total economic control, including owning both the
means of forces of production, as well as having an exclusive monopoly of the banks. This practice, in
turn, eliminates the exploitation and alienation of any persons. Communism embraces the idea that
you contribute what you can and take what you need without any form of inequality. Each man would
work for the collective good for all, as opposed to working for his own individual good. Individuals
only have to spend the minimal amount of time working as a means to survive, allowing for more time
to become self actualized, happy beings through the creative activity of their choice (Wartenburg,
1982). Thomas Hobbes offers an opposing view to Marx s idea of labor that may appear more
favorable to some. Hobbes argued for the belief that the best way to live life is selfishly, putting your
own personal desires before others. This is the life of a free rider , one who receives the benefits of
[others] generosity without

The Punishment Of The American Prison System
Whenever you imagine prison, you think up ideas and violent images that you have seen in the movies
or on TV. Outdated clichés consisting of men eating stale bread and drinking dirty water are only a
small fraction of the number of horrible, yet just occurrences which are stereotypical of everyday life
in prison. Perhaps it could be a combination of your upbringing, horrific ideas about the punishment
which our nation inflicts on those who violate its more serious laws that keeps people frightened just
enough to lead a law abiding life. Despite it s success in keeping dangerous offenders off the streets,
the American prison system fails in fulfilling its original design of restoring criminals to being
productive members of society, it is also extremely expensive and wastes our precious tax dollars.
As children, most people learn obedience through punishment. When we do something wrong , one or
several privileges are taken away by our parents. Depending on the severity of a mistake, such
punishment may last for a very short time or in some cases it may even be permanent by nature. Many
parents inflict a common punishment on their young children of not allowing them to watch television
for a certain amount of time which is usually measured in days or in weeks. Such disciplinary methods
often prove to be positive learning experiences which teach us right from wrong and instill us with
values which should prevent us from doing it again. Similarly, the prison system

Wildfire Assessment
Wildfire Assessment For as long as mankind can conceive, fire has been a remarkable tool to conquer.
When controlled, it provides necessary heat, energy, and fuel for a consumer to use; however, when
fire goes unattended, it has the potential to become a wholly destructive element. The more western
states of America, such as Utah and Colorado, have repeatedly experienced this concept in its most
devastating form: wildfires. A wildfire is generally considered to be difficult to control and fast
moving, swallowing anything that lay in its path, including forest or human habitat. As human
incursion reaches more remote areas in wooded mountains, wildfires pose a serious threat to high end
homes and secluded cabins. The untamed nature of these fires also allows them to creep into
subdivisions and endanger more ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For centuries, society has been battling these natural disasters with considerable effort, only to come
up with charred land and numerous homeless citizens. The one most significant gain, however, that
comes with these fires is the vigorous regrowth that occurs years after the devastation. With a freshly
cleared area, decaying sediment acting as fertilizer, and a significantly lower chance for fires, new life
is easily reintroduced from the waste. The question then becomes whether it is ethical for human
intervention with what is completely natural and healthy for the surrounding environment. The idea of
allowing uncontrolled burns comes with great potential for animal and plant habitats, however it
leaves many citizens in the wake of danger. Finding the balance between these two ideas, excessive
interference and absolute surrender of control, is an important endeavor to way

Crime Data Measuring Crime Essay
Crime throughout the United States is measured through statistics. Whether they are small crimes,
blue color crimes, drugs, and even murder, these statistics help the criminal justice system to develop
new laws that need to be put in place and to see how current programs are working. There are two
statistical reports used to measure crime in the United States; they are the (UCR) Uniform Crime
Report and the (NCVS) National Crime Victimization Survey. There is a third and it is self reported
crimes by individuals. These systems being used are a great foundation for tracking trends in crimes
but they are only as accurate as the people/systems that give to them. Although these are here to report
criminal information to several agencies, they do not reflect all the numbers because there are a lot of
crimes that go unreported.

Certain crimes through the United States are not reported because some individuals do not feel
comfortable reporting them and or some criminals do not always get caught. When criminals are
caught, they do not always go to trial because either there is not sufficient evidence or witnesses do
not come forward. Recidivism statistics today should be looked at more closely, especially prior to
these criminals being released. The problem could be that the programs that are implemented in the
system to reform the criminals prior to release are not working or the criminals are beating the system
by lying. Either way, these two statistics go hand in hand because the crimes are either being
committed by new criminals or repeat offenders and some of these crimes are not being reported. The
reporting systems and law enforcement agencies should go back and review these numbers and find a
better way to track these criminals, criminal activities, arresting procedures, and prison

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Diagnostic Imaging
INTRODUCTION
Modern medicine has undergone major advancements over the past years. One of these developments
include the capacity to retrieve crucial information about the human body and its health beyond the
use of manual diagnostic techniques. This is referred to as Medical or Diagnostic Imaging.
Medical or Diagnostic Imaging refers to the various techniques that can be used to see inside the
human body. Its non invasive nature means that the body does not have to be opened up surgically for
medical practitioners to view the organs anatomically. In clinical settings, it can be used to aid in the
diagnosis or treatment of different ailments. Many kinds of medical imaging techniques have already
been developed, each with their own advantages ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Early diagnosis provided by its sophisticated technology saves countless patient lives, and without its
help, we wouldn t have been able to develop cures or treatments for many diseases. Its ability to
monitor subtle changes in patients that would otherwise be missed by unassisted human eyes is also a
hallmark of modern clinical practice.
The radiograph, one of the most common diagnostic imaging tools utilized in this field, possesses a
very important component called contrast. Contrast helps radiologists perceive image detail and glean
information from the area of interest. Radiation Technologists, or Rad Techs, should always ensure
that radiographs have the right amount of contrast so that the radiologist can easily read them for
faster diagnosis.
In terms of education, enormous equipment and expensive yet high quality machines have always
surrounded the College of Medical Radiation Technology (or CMRT). However, it is not just about the
cost but also about their effectiveness and usefulness for the CMRT students. With these machines,
students get to have hands on activities that prepare them for when they take their internship in
hospitals and as future health

The Trade Policies Around The World
The trade policies around the world are different depending on which country a person lives in. There
are many different regulations because there are so many different foreign policies. If a person wants
to be successful in doing business globally, then they would have to abide by the country they are
interested in doing business with, standards of how to do business. It would be disrespectful to try to
do business with another country and not know any of their customs or beliefs, because what you are
bringing to the table could be offensive to them which could leave you empty handed if one does not
operate right under the business standards of the foreign company. Even though it behooves a business
person to abide by another country s foreign trade policy some of the other country s policies may be
offensive to the investor. The best thing to focus on when doing business with another country is to
come to an equal understanding on point of views, they may have to agree to disagree on some things
but, the most important thing to remember is to try to make money with other countries to extend your
business to new heights. When an investor set point of views to the side and focus on the matter at
hand, and that is to make money, then they will be more comfortable abiding by another county s way
of doing business. The trade policy I am going to write about is the trade policy in China. Present day
Chinese culture is a combination of the old world

Pros And Cons Of Affirmative Action
Affirmative action and any race positive policies should be dismantled; I disagree with affirmative
action. Better stated from the debate question: like Jim Crow, affirmative action is invidious racial
discrimination. Affirmative action should take the path similarly to that taken in California become
abolished. Affirmative action does discriminate on a racial level. Affirmative action implies that
minorities cannot achieve a certain goal without the help of a race positive policy, which is invidious
racial discrimination. While policies developed to create diversity may (or may not) bring in diversity,
the policies are damaging and create a second class minority degree. (Scalia, 1979) Colleges and

The Effects Of Military Involvement On U.s.
Introduction
Since the need has been established to justly acknowledge the requisite to take into account
preparations and responses to hazards and the correlational effects, the realization of governmental
assistance became apparent. Due to the ever demanding scenarios, and the requirement of specialized
skill and personnel, the United States Military would ultimately play a role during such occurrences
on United States soil. Although there are Federal, State, and local authorities whom have a primary
purpose of planning for such events, the need of additional assistance during certain situations is
inevitable.
Until certain pieces of legislation were formed, the authorized scope of military involvement on U.S.
soil in a post disaster area was somewhat obscure. Situations as such created issues regarding
personnel, equipment, regulation, and the ever present issue of monetary cost and reimbursement.
Once FEMA was legally formed into a federal entity, these issues could be more accurately accounted
for with such pieces of legislation and regulations as the Stafford Act, the Immediate Response
Authority, Defense Support to Civil Authorities, and although put into law decades before the
previously noted, the Posse Comitatus Act. All of these alterations were tested out in the field,
ultimately showing several complications and alterations that were necessary to respond and recover
in a more effective manner.
Although controversy exists, generally Military assistance comes

Mistakes In Medical Field Essay
Jerald A. Eckman Making mistakes is what it means to be human. It is the way in which we deal with

in my life as opportunities to grow as a man and a young physician an individual with the ability and
desire to help others in need, especially during times in their life when they may feel as though many
of their decisions have been mistakes. When my medical education began, I immediately knew this
was a passion unlike any other I had ever had. Unfortunately, my exuberance for becoming a
physician was not initially met with academic achievement. At the end of my first semester, I knew
that I could either let the mistakes I have made defeat me, or I could use them to my advantage. I often
reflect on my initial struggles as a medical student as being one of the most difficult, and yet,
ironically rewarding experiences of my adult life. To this day, I recall the uncertainty I faced, and the

Pol Pot killed 25% of Cambodia, equivalent to the entire city of Philadelphia. In a four year period,
over 1.7 million Cambodians died of overwork, starvation, torture and execution. Pol Pot s
Communist ideals, extremely similar to the Stalinist USSR, called for a total collectivization of
agriculture and for a complete nationalization of all sectors of the economy. Pol Pot s ideology,
Socialist Agrarianism, valued farmers, and wanted to rid the country of all other professions. Pol Pot
was creating a complete Communist society without wasting time on the intermediate steps, as the
Khmer Rouge said to China in 1975 (Kiernan, Ben). Believing the city people to be contaminated by

While there were many benefits of French control, the negatives made a lasting effect.
Without the intervention of the French, Cambodia could have become integrated into another South
Asian country, and disappear as a sovereign nation. (Cambodia Tribunal) While the French seem to be
a blessing to Cambodia, the few negative effects created the poor, naive Cambodia that Pol Pot came
to power in. In the early 20th century, education was severely neglected. Over time, it was slightly
increased, but was never up to par. According to Cambodia, a Country Study, there was only one
institution of higher learning in Cambodia in 1950. The country was not educated. The Khmer
Rouge/Democratic Party of Campuchea s Socio Communist ideas took advantage of the
unknowledgeable Cambodians, and ended up herding them like sheep, eventually leading them to
their death. French colonists did not allow Cambodians to participate in the government, so they did
not know what to do when independence finally arrived at their front door in 1945.
Under the rule of Prince Sihanouk, the government that had declared independance from France,
Cambodia had remained neutral during the Vietnam War. They allowed the Viet Cong to use a
Cambodian port to ship munitions, and the U.S. was allowed to bomb suspected Communist holdouts
in Cambodia, but there was little conflict in Cambodia. America aided Lon Nol to

children kidnapping in such a great way .The Amber Alert is revolutionary to America because it

Amber Alert Began in 1996 when Dallas Fort Worth broadcasters teamed with local police to develop
an early warning system to help find abducted children (AmberAlert.gov). AMBER stands for
America s Missing: Broadcast Emergency Response (AmberAlert.gov). The program is used in all 50
states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands (Missing Kids.org). When
you notify the police saying that your child has been abducted they would have to make sure it follows
the amber alert criteria. AMBER plans require law enforcement to confirm an abduction prior to
issuing an alert. This is essential when determining the level of risk to the child. Clearly, stranger
abductions are the most dangerous for children and thus are primary to the mission of an AMBER

Criteria for Evaluation
I. Ensure public safety II. Protect corporate reputation III. Minimize financial losses and retain

Evaluation of Options
1. Do not inform the restaurant chain
* Ensure public safety: A majority of salmonella species can be inactivated if the restaurant chain
operates at documented pasteurization temperatures. However, in the event of the infection reaching
the public, there is a significant morbidity and mortality rate. Hospitalization and death rates can be as
high as 33% and 3% respectively. (Schlundt, 2001) Exhibit 1 shows the number of Salmonella related
deaths and death rates in the past 10 years. * Protect corporate reputation: Mike s might get away with
the wrongdoing if the contamination does not result in any public level infection. However, if any case
of infection were to come to light, Mike s will be portrayed by the media as an unethical and
unscrupulous organization which can ruin its reputation. * Minimize financial losses and retain
restaurant chain s business: The upside to this option is prevention of losses on the infected food lot.
However, in case of any eventualities, the restaurant chain might pull out. Also, the ensuing litigation

  • 2. Iran Case Study Moving on to my second point, I would like to discuss the nature of the sanctions implemented on Iran due to the nuclear issue more in detail so we can get a better realization of what the public civilians in Iran have gone through. It is worth mentioning that Iran has been facing sanctions with respect to the selling of any aircraft and any parts related to them and even the maintenance and inspection of airplanes since 1979. Regardless of the reasons behind it, for a moment let s imagine how would it be if only one of us, set aside a group of 200 or more passengers consisting of children and women, were to fly on an airplane that was at least 36 years old, and the parts on it had been smuggled through back channels and proxies and there ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As a case in point, I can personally, as someone who has witnessed these tough situations firsthand, tell you that all costs and prices, from the price of a bottle of milk or a loaf of bread to the cost of going from one end of the city to the other, more or less doubled due to the sanctions. Again I would like to encourage you to just imagine how terrible would it be if the cost of transportation or anything else in New York City were to double over night. All the above mentioned on one side, the trouble of not being able to purchase certain medicines and foods on the other was the most painful of all. Officially, the imposers of these sanctions had excluded the purchase of medical supplies and certain food from the sanctions; however, here is a part of a recent study by the Washington DC based Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars: Even when the most reputable American and European pharmaceutical companies are involved, and their lawyers have completed all the necessary paperwork from the US Treasury s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC), nearly all banks that Iran deals with prefer to err on the side of caution. Their hesitation is understandable given that a mistake could earn a bank the wrath of the US Treasury Department and fines that exceed $1 billion. The recent experience of a reputable Iranian pharmaceutical group shows the magnitude of the problem. When a senior company representative flew to Paris to present a French bank with documentation ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Aspects Of Mother Nature 1.1 Mother Nature The sun, with all those planets revolving around it and dependent upon it, can still ripen a bunch of grapes as if it had nothing else in the universe to do. Galileo Galilei (1564 1642), the Italian physicist, mathematician, astronomer and philosopher From ancient mythologies to recent religions, Mother Nature is eternally the point of origin. She is the source of creation. Figures and symbols of women representing mother earth and Mother Nature are timeless. In ancient times, goddesses were the symbol for fertility, hospitality and life saver. The Nature that cradles us is so ancient and so new. It is so marvelous and yet so simple. Her beauty and grace, her love and affection gives us our life to live. We live the life ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The attributes of Mother Nature emerges to us in all forms of feeling, in sweet love and childlike smile, in wild and explosive force of destruction, in consuming anger. She is not indifferent with any of her children. There is no dearth of kindness in Mother Nature; but in our blindness we do not see them. We take our mother and her bounty for granted and go on depleting her resources to meet our greed. Over time, if we do not change our course, our Mother Nature will not remain the same. No more can any sensible person take this planet as the provider of resources for man, yielding new largesse to every demand without limit. Her resources will be exhausted. We will value them only when they are gone. In Mother Nature, everything is integrated. Everything comes from her and returns to her. She manifests herself in so many forms. She assumes the form of feminine earth, fertile and bringing forth earthly creation. She lies all around us with such a balancing act and such affection for all of her children! She smells sweet and blossoms forth with such a breath taking variety of forms and colors. Her hues are breathtaking. Her compassion is never wasted, whether we seize it or not; but, if we live in accordance with nature, we will be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Designer Babies Research Paper Designer Babies Why do people want designer babies? Couples in this generation have been choosing to go through with methods to make sure that their child is made the way they want, also known as designer babies. A designer baby is one whose genetic make up has been selected by genetic engineering to ensure the presence or absence of particular genes or characteristics. People may use this to avoid passing on gender linked genetic diseases such as blindness, deafness, autism and cancers. Some may also use this as a way of having a baby of the sex opposite to the one they may already have. This can also be called family balancing to have children of both genders in a family. PGD The procedure used for designing a child is called pre implantation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The PGD process has also enhanced children and increased the human lifespan up to 30 years. With these technologies improving, it keeps up to date with modern technology and gives us a wider variety of procedures and choices to choose from. Although there are positive things that come from the use of genetic engineering, there are also cons associated with genetically modifying your baby. The first one is that the technology is not 100% safe yet and the process is still being experimented on. This also means that if it is not done properly and carefully, the embryo could be terminated. It is also unknown yet if modifying the babies could affect family trees and if they may or may not have problems later on in life. While couples are using PGD to prevent disorders, some want to use it for personal preference reasons. For e.g. wanting a baby with blue eyes, blonde hair and intelligence. This also means that there could be a gap in society where designer babies would be better looking and smarter. This could damage our ability to change as humans and lead to loss of individuality from the popular interests like intelligence and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

These are the fourth, fifth, sixth, and the eighth amendments that give specifics on how the process should go and how the arrested person is to go through it. In the amendment they even say that the police must read you your rights when they arrest you, and if they don t they can get in trouble. Before a person is arrested the police usually need a probable cause to arrest them, or a solid reason to arrest someone. What are the questions investigated or hypotheses tested? The hypotheses that was tested was that people are more likely to reciprocate a smile to a passerby on a sunny day rather than a cloudy day. 3. What previous work or theories informed the study? There have been several studies done that show human social relationships and behavior are positively affected by good weather. On sunny days, people are more willing to answer interview questions. When they were first analyzing the data, they realized there was not a significant difference in cloudy or sunny days when there was a smile in return. What is the pattern of results for each broad question that was addressed? Overall, passersby reciprocated a smile more readily on sunnier days than on cloudier days. It seemed that both men and women were more likely to smile back if the confederate was a woman. They saw that men were less likely to smile back to another man. Evaluating Discussion 12. • 9. Multiple Characters In Anna Karenina By Lev Tolstoy In Anna Karenina, Lev Tolstoy describes multiple characters in depth and gives the readers the opportunity to create and change their opinions about most of them as the plot develops. The novel begins with a rather striking quote, taken from Romans 12:19: Vengeance is mine, I will repay (Tolstoy XXV). This sentence s meaning in it s biblical context and full length, is that it is not up to people to punish others for their wrong doings, but that God will eventually take revenge and repay them, for it is his right and duty to do so. Focusing on the meaning of this excerpt, I believe that it is connected to the outcomes of Anna and Vronsky s affair, but also to that of the life of Dolly Oblonskaya and her husband, as well as other characters . In this paper I will support my interpretation of the reasons why I believe that despite the fact that Anna Karenina appears to suffer the consequences of her love affair with Alexei Vronsky because she is a woman more than her brother Stepan Oblonsky, the faith that the author assigns to her with allusions since the beginning of the book, is connected to the fact that cheating is fundamentally wrong according to Tolstoy s perspective, and that her punishment is a consequence of the above mentioned quotation. To sustain my understanding of this theme I will make a comparison between Anna and some of the other main characters who are involved in a romantic relationship or, as in Dolly s case, stuck in an unhappy marriage. One of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Psycho, Directed And Produced By Alfred Hitchcock The psychological thriller film, Psycho, was directed and produced by Alfred Hitchcock in 1960 changing many aspects in the world of the motion picture as we know it today. Through its unconventional and very daring way of showing the audience, female undergarments, scaring the audience into not wanting to shower for years with an onscreen murder seen as never seen before, and even with something seemingly prosaic by showing a flushing toilet. Hitchcock managed to captivate and scare people around the world, as well as enthrall the minds of many other movie directors and producers until this day. Hitchcock decided to film Psycho in black and white for three reasons 1) he thought the bloody murder might just be too much for audiences and used chocolate syrup as the blood swirling down the drain, 2) his love for the French horror film Diabolique (1955) which was shot in black and white, and 3) Cost cutting. Psycho is based on Robert Bloch s 1959 novel, which was inspired, by the grave robber and murderer from Wisconsin Ed Gein. Following the opening titles, with the audience expecting to be introduced to a main character, Psycho instead starts with an extremely long shot to begin a scene, showing a busy city in the middle of the day. This is not the typical setting of a thriller. The ELS allows the audience to predict what is going to happen but also gives the idea that the Psycho is somewhere in the city. Instead, the sword is used to try to solve problems and ends up creating many more. The last major theme was a common one during the time Malory was writing: courtly love. This theme is definitely something our culture has dwelled on. The idea of two lovers who cannot be together because of marriage is all too interesting for the culture that is also obsessed with soap operas. One could say that many more movies that do not even mention Arthur could be based on the Arthurian legend if they imitate courtly love. Any movie with a love triangle could be game. Before this occurred, Macbeth also says, Then comes my fit again. I had else been perfect, Whole as the marble, founded as the rock, As broad and general as the casing air. But now I am cabined, cribbed, confined, bound in To saucy doubts and fears (3.4.23 27). This event proves how Macbeth is worried about his throne as confidence in safety and innocence collapses. Now that Fleance has escaped as well, Macbeth is put up with the greater threat of trying to find him again later on in order kill him. This allows Fleance to stay safe for a while, and become a larger threat to Macbeth as he is becoming more prepared and older for the throne if something were to happen to Macbeth. After he realizes that he had made an irreversible mistake, Macbeth then accepts responsibility for his own fate. Upon seeing the ghost of Banquo at his banquet, Macbeth says, You can t say I did it. Don t shake your bloody head at me (3.4.59 60). This highlights how Macbeth is unconsciously facing and accepting the responsibility for his own fate. Since Macbeth saw a ghost of his best friend that he killed, this shows how guilt is definitely on his mind, and how he must be ashamed of his actions. Although Marx s theories were groundbreaking, they do not escape criticism. More specifically, differing views are offered for both the importance of labor and how our society shapes our nature. In this essay, I will be addressing these two opposing views and arguing for Marx s description of human nature. Marx rejects the idea that human nature consists of any certain, particular activity. Marx suggests that the Bourgeoisie was able to exploit the working class because it is the ruling class in a capitalistic society, thus its actions are backed and enforced by the State (Wall, 2005). From his disdain of Capitalism arose Marx s idea of the perfect society for human nature, Communism. Communism is a system in which there is no private property, no social classes, and no excess capital. The government essentially has total economic control, including owning both the means of forces of production, as well as having an exclusive monopoly of the banks. This practice, in turn, eliminates the exploitation and alienation of any persons. Communism embraces the idea that you contribute what you can and take what you need without any form of inequality. Each man would work for the collective good for all, as opposed to working for his own individual good. Individuals only have to spend the minimal amount of time working as a means to survive, allowing for more time to become self actualized, happy beings through the creative activity of their choice (Wartenburg, 1982). Thomas Hobbes offers an opposing view to Marx s idea of labor that may appear more favorable to some. I often reflect on my initial struggles as a medical student as being one of the most difficult, and yet, ironically rewarding experiences of my adult life. To this day, I recall the uncertainty I faced, and the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Pol Pot s ideology, Socialist Agrarianism, valued farmers, and wanted to rid the country of all other professions. Pol Pot was creating a complete Communist society without wasting time on the intermediate steps, as the Khmer Rouge said to China in 1975 (Kiernan, Ben). French colonists did not allow Cambodians to participate in the government, so they did not know what to do when independence finally arrived at their front door in 1945. Under the rule of Prince Sihanouk, the government that had declared independance from France, Cambodia had remained neutral during the Vietnam War. They allowed the Viet Cong to use a Cambodian port to ship munitions, and the U.S. was allowed to bomb suspected Communist holdouts in Cambodia, but there was little conflict in Cambodia.
