Summary Of Walk Well My Brother By Farley Mowat
As a plane crashes somewhere in northern Canada, two passengers have been left to survive on their
own, but first, they must recognize and put aside their significant differences. In the short story Walk
Well My Brother by Farley Mowat, Charlie, a white, male, airplane operator, and Konala, a young,
indigenous, woman living in Yellowknife. Charlie has many differences from Konala. Charlie is
ignorant while Konala is intelligent, Charlie is selfish while Konala is selfless, and Charlie is not good
at dealing with stressful situations and Konala, on the other hand, is very good at dealing with stressful
situations.

At this point in the story, Charlie and Konala are traveling for help while at the same time looking for
food and new places to stay in the night. A bear is spotted by Konala in the field, and it is heading
towards them Konala swerved away, even though this brought her closer to the bear. [...] she was
attempting to distract the beast (Mowat 80). During this time in the story, Konala is taking care of,
feeding, and giving Charlie all the means to live. This act of courage by Konala clearly shows the
selflessness and kindness of herself to the extent that she distracted a bear to give Charlie a better
chance of surviving. Charlie s characteristic of selfishness is seen throughout the story but most of all
during the beginning of the story when Charlie was in Yellowknife. A young Eskimo touched his arm
and pointed to the tent, as he went over he said, Theses huskies might have a few white fox pelts to
trade (Mowat 171). This quote shows that the only reason Charlie went into the tent was not to see if
everything was okay but it was to see if there was anything he could get out of walking over to the
tent, in turn being very selfish. At this point in the story Charlie is asked to fly Konala to a hospital,
and at first, he says no, but one of the other men shows two walrus tusks [...] of exceptional quality

Some believe Hitler s interest in art and being rejected from an art academy led to him steal and burn
priceless art, do you? With that said, this is one of the most notorious art thefts in the world with over
thousands of pieces of art either destroyed or lost. Not only are the artwork valuable in currency, they
are also culturally valuable too. Today, there are still around an estimated 750,000 pieces of art lost.
Historians estimate the value of the art stolen by the Nazis to worth around 20,000,000,000 dollars.

Lines are the predominate feature in this painting, as all of the animals have lines to focus on their
shape and even have overlapping lines. I see curved lines mostly that gives more likeness to what the
actual animals shape must have been. All the animals look soft in the features as there are no rough or
jagged lines given to them. Even the horns on the rhinos is quite smooth looking. There also happens
to be horizontal lines on the rhinos legs, giving to the sharpness mainly to the hooves. This painting is
mainly monochromatic, no colors given besides the natural background of the limestone, there is some

Anemone River Scandal
Description: Since the induction of the National Park Service, national parks have been tasked with
sharing and protecting natural spaces in equal measure. This can be a challenge at times when the
desire to share a place where the public can engage with nature conflicts with the need to protect it.
One of the most fragile, but also most enticing places, is the intertidal. This is where the ocean meets
land, and is home to a diverse amount of marine life. Anemone cave is an example of one of these
places. It is a sea cave that lies within Schooner Point, and it used to be a very popular attraction in the
park. Years of visitation by park goers started to take its toll on the cave, with much of the marine life
being stepped on, or removed. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Historical Analysis
Christopher Marlowe born in Canterbury, England his exact birth date is not known which why it is
based when he received his baptism in 1564. Marlowe was a poet and playwright who was very
prominent in the dramatic renaissance in the 16th century. Marlowe was a University graduate with a
bachelor s of arts. He tried to obtain his Masters, but the University gave him a hard time in doing so.
His first plays were performed in the late 1580 s and were quite successful in Elizabethan Theatre.
Near the end of his life, Marlow got in trouble with the law when he was accused of a crime; the crime
being atheism and blasphemy. He was later killed during a fight in 1593 by Ingram Frizer when he
stabbed him in the forehead. Marlowe was a very young playwright for his time. Because he died at
age 29, his literary career lasted less than six years. Dr. Faustus was his most popular written work
which ensured his legacy for centuries to come. His influences and inspirations for the tragedy of
Faustus were based on older German legends. The origin of Faustus came from a Latin term which
meant fortunate or lucky. It was also rumored that Faustus was the brother in law to the devil. The
play was written in blank verse and pros, which became popular by Marlow himself. Marlow s work is
the first time the tale was told in play form because it took the legend and used it to it

The Beautiful Painting by Edward Hopper, House by the...
I. Description The painting, House by the Railroad, by Edward Hopper was completed in 1925. The
house he painted was in the style of a Victorian house. The house was built next to railroad tracks. He
painted House by the Railroad with oil based paint on a canvas. The artwork is a twenty four by
twenty nine inches in a frame. When I look at this painting, the first thing I think of is where is it
located? It looks like it is in the middle of nowhere but then again it looks like it is in a town because
of the railroad tracks. The house is built next to the railroad tracks but there are no trees. The house
contains several windows which I think would be neat. In this painting, he uses vertical and horizontal
lines. He used vertical lines for the columns of the house and parts of the house. He also uses
horizontal lines for parts of the house and the railroad tracks. Many of the lines Edward Hopper
painted were medium size. The painting is painted with several figures lined up. If you look at the
front of the house, you can tell that it is square on top of another square. The one on the bottom left is
also a square but it is bigger. The picture and the lines are very soft. The lines in the picture never
seem to overlap each other. The way the sun is in the picture makes it look absolutely beautiful. The
sun could be either rising or setting by the look of the artwork. House by the Railroad was painted in
the United States. Edward Hopper painted this picture after he came back

How Does Ronald Reagan Use Syntax In A Throw To Our Dead
On the 40th anniversary of D Day, Ronald Reagan made a speech to honor the soldiers who so bravely
fought for our country in World War II. In his speech, A Vow to Our Dead, Reagan uses parallel syntax
and 3 unique tones to communicate his purposes to commemorate the American and allied heroes of
the Second World War, to convey America s desire for peace to the Soviet Union, and to unite the
allies. To begin, Ronald Reagan uses parallel syntax to celebrate the valiant men who fought for and
alongside the United States in World War II. When commending these troops for their outstanding
bravery, Ronald begins each phrase with, these are the, followed by a progressive transformation. He
says, These are the boys of Pointe du Hoc. These are the men who took the cliffs. These are the
champions who helped free a continent. These are the heroes who helped end a war. This evolution of

During a time when the relationship between America and the Soviets was extremely tense, Ronald
expresses hope, that they are willing to move forward, that they share [the United States ] desire and
love for peace, and that they will give up the ways of conquest. This gives the Soviet Union and
America hope for a better future alongside one another, rather than opposing one another as they have
in the past. Reagan tells the Soviets that the United States is willing to put aside all differences for the
sake of peace, if they are also willing. He also uses a challenging tone, not only to call for peace with
the Soviets, but to assure them that the U.S. is, prepared to deter aggression, and, to negotiate the
reduction of arms, if they refuse this peace offering. This notifies the Soviet Union that America does
want peace with their country, but if they reject it, our country is prepared to stand against them and

Reaching Our Potential Health Inequities
PDHPE Class 3
Tahnee Hodson Term 3, 2015
1. Describe the health inequities experienced by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in
Australia.
Health inequities describe the differences in health status or in the distribution of health resources
between different population groups, ascending from the social conditions in which people are born,
grow, live, work and age.
In Australia, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders experience far more ill health than other
Australians. The major inequities experienced among these people include: *
Younger mortality. As an example, Indigenous children aged 0 4 died at more than twice the rate of
non Indigenous children in 2012. Indigenous child death rates fell by 30% from 2001 to 2012
compared with 22% for non Indigenous children. The largest gap in death rates between Indigenous
and non Indigenous Australians was in circulatory disease deaths (22% of the gap) followed by
endocrine, metabolic and nutritional disorders (particularly diabetes) (14% of the gap). (1)
Have a reduced quality of life. In 2003 04, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders were twice as likely
to suffer from mental and behavioural disorders as other Australians. Hospitalisation rates for assault
or intentional self harm may also be indicative of mental illness and distress. In 2003 04 Aboriginal

JC Penney: Product: Like its two competitors, JC Penney offers a variety of tangible goods for sale.
JC Penney caters to its customers with higher end products at an affordable price. It is similar to
Nordstrom s in the types of goods offered. It differs from Wal Mart because it has less variety. JC
Penney offers clothing, bed and bath products, home items, clothing accessories, and patio furniture.
Clothing is the main area of production for JC Penney and accounts for more than 50% of sales.
Price: JC Penney has recently decided to move to three kinds of prices: everyday, monthly specials,
and clearances. They came to this strategy through a variety of studies. First, using past sales data, the
company looked at consumers actual purchasing behavior, and came up with what it terms Fair and
Square pricing, which means shoppers can expect lower prices in stores at all times. To reach this
conclusion, research showed 72% of JC Penney s revenue came from selling items priced at least 50%
off. Thus, in the example cited in most recent news stories about the Fair and Square strategy, a T shirt
that had retailed for US$14 but typically sold after markdowns at US$6, would now be priced at a
US$7 every day. Part two of Fair and Square means monthly deals, and in the T shirt example,

The Influence Of American Values
Despite the fact that I am unabashedly myself and unintentionally vocal about most, if not all, of my

being financially stable, contrasting the individualistic and free form thinking that is encouraged in the
United States. Growing up, I ve juggled the different values of the two cultures. I would select
whichever ideal benefitted me the most at the moment, but as I am most consistently surrounded by

Reflection On Human Development
Human Development Reflection: Young Adulthood In Experience Human Development, Papalia and
Martorell define young adulthood as ages twenty through forty, although the idea of young adulthood
is more a social construct than an actual age range. Upon entering this phase, individuals have reached
their full grown physical stature. In fact, adults are considered to be at their physical peak during this
phase of life with most young adults claiming to be in good to excellent physical health. However, the
modern lifestyle has started to affect this statistic, with more and more young people reporting health
related risks and concerns due to a poor diet and a decrease in physical activities (Papalia Martorell.
2015). Alcohol use peaks during young adulthood with college being the prime time and place for
young adults to partake in risky drinking and other high risk behaviors such as smoking, illicit drug
use, and high risk sexual activities. Young adults have, by far, the highest infection rate of sexually
transmitted infections in the United States, with many not even aware that they are infected. Young
adulthood also appears to be a sensitive period for the emergence of mental health concerns and
depressive syndromes. Individuals who suffer from adult onset depression typically have few risk
factors in childhood, but may experience issues with the transition from adolescence to adulthood and
the sudden loss of support that might accompany it (Papalia Martorell.

How Did Woodrow Wilson Affect The Economy
Woodrow Wilson, as the 28th President of the United States, enacted some of the most sweeping
economic overhauls the American government has ever seen. The Professor President , by
compromising and cutting deals, was able to bring to life his vision of reform in the business world.
The Underwood Simmons bill, the Federal Reserve Act, the Federal Trade Commission Act and the
Clayton Anti Trust Act were all brought about by Wilson as tools to further his goal of taking away
power from the large corporations and banks and giving it to the small businesses and entrepreneurs.
First, Wilson enacted the Underwood Simmons bill in 1913. This Act lowered the trade tariffs for the

The control of credit also has become dangerously centralized. It is the mere truth to say that the
financial resources of the country are not at the command of those who do not submit to the direction
and domination of small groups of capitalists who wish to keep the economic development of the
country under their own eye and guidance. Wilson wanted to take the power away from the banks in
New York and make money more available to people outside of Wall Street by spreading it throughout
the country in independent reserves that were controlled by the federal government and not bankers.
We must have a currency, not as rigid as now, but readily, elastically responsive to sound credit, the
expanding and contracting credits of everyday transactions, the normal ebb and flow of personal and
corporate dealings. Our banking laws must mobilize reserves; not permit the concentration anywhere
in a few hands of the monetary resources of the country or their use for speculative purposes in such
volume as to hinder or impede or stand in the way of other more legitimate, more fruitful uses. And
the control of the system of banking and of issue which our new laws are to set up must be public, not
private, must be vested in the Government itself, so that the banks may be the instrument, not the

Reaction Time Lab
In this lab, the team concluded that being distracted with an activity that diverts optical attention away
from the focal point, such as texting, significantly increases reaction time. The other distractors,
including listening to music and talking on a cell phone, had effectively no impact on reaction time in
comparison to having no distraction.
In order convert the distance the meter stick fell into the given unit of time (seconds or hours), the
time equation shown in the sample calculation was used. This equation directly found the reaction
time in seconds, which allowed the team to calculate the reaction time in hours. Dimensional analysis
was used to convert seconds to hours, which resulted in extraordinarily small quantities that warranted
the use of scientific notation.
From there, the team had to determine in each case how far a car traveling at 60 miles per hour would
travel before brakes would be applied. To do this, the team used the equation v=d/t to find distance,
and thus rewriting it as d=vt. This equation determined the distance in miles, prompting the team to
again use dimensional analysis to find the distance in feet.

than the 12.03ft you would travel without distraction. Using that data, it was concluded that the only

The Kongolese And Christianity In Kongo
For centuries, Africans and their belief systems have been derided. Instead of being studied as valid
and meaningful responses to the universal terms of human existence, African religions have often been
considered exotic objects... peculiar and incomprehensible or repellent. For many Europeans,
Christianity was by far the superior religion, and they strove to convert Africans. One kingdom where
they seemed to enjoy success was Kongo. By 1704, the people living there had been Catholic for six
generations nearly two centuries. The Kongolese took great pride in this, believing that it made them
superior to their neighbours. Moreover, both the Kongolese and the Church took pride in the fact that
Christianity had come to Kongo not through conquest and forced conversion, but through the
voluntary conversion of João I. Despite this achievement, though, the Church more the Kongolese had
to practice Catholicism exactly as the Europeans did. With the coming of Dona Beatriz Kimpa Vita,
who claimed to be possessed by Saint Anthony, this conflict would become more apparent than ever
before. Though the Capuchins succeeded in having Dona Beatriz burnt at the stake, they failed in their
ultimate goal of fully converting the Kongolese to their form of Catholicism.
The knowledge of Catholicism displayed by the Kongolese was impressive. Though many Europeans
wondered about their penchant for such things as sacred stones and ancestors graves... they never

What Is Mercutio To Blame
Dominic Hanecak Mr. Anderson Period 5 English 1 Honours 9 December 2014 Mercutio: To Blame or
Not to Blame There are many tragedies that happen in our lives today, anyone can look in the media,
on the web, or just look around a neighborhood to find them. In William Shakespeare s, Romeo and
Juliet tragedies happen as well. There are many deaths because of two family s feud. Many people are
responsible for the buildup to the tragedies in the play, however one person seems to be the most
responsible for these deaths, and this person is Mercutio because of his constant pressure and sense of
pride. One of the reasons Mercutio is most responsible for the tragedies in this play is that he is the
one who convinces Romeo to go to the party at the Capulets. This is what started the chain of events
that led up to the deaths of himself, Romeo, Juliet, Tybalt and Mrs. Montague. Mercutio tells Romeo
that he is a lover. Borrow Cupids wings and soar with them above a common bound ... Show more

future cousin in law to get hurt so he and benvolio step in to stop the fight. While Mercutio is fighting
Tybalt, Mercutio falls saying I was hurt under your arm (3.1.100 101). This makes Romeo furious, so
mad that he says he is acting on his emotions not on common sense. Out of grief and out of revenge
Romeo slays Tybalt, and when the Prince comes Romeo gets banished. As you can see Mercutio
sacrificing his own life for Romeos pride adds to the tension in between these two families and leads

Educating Special Needs Essay
Educating Special Needs Students
Identifying and providing for special needs children is essential to special education. Once a child has
been diagnosis with a disability or multiple disabilities, a plan of care is initiated according to the
severity of their condition and their needs. This plan is individualized; one child s diagnosis is not a
reflection of the wide range conditions that affect many children. Intellectual disabilities can be mild
to profound, can be caused by different factors and can have a different impact on a student s
education and adult life. (Hardman, Drew, Egan, 2013). Professionals have found many causes for

Ever since humans began to domesticate animals, their lives have altered drastically. Daily life and
activities became easier with the use of the trained animals and the relationship between humans and
other animals grew into something more than just to beings coexisting with one another. Today,
domesticated animals became beloved family members of humans who adopted them and they live
peacefully. Some train their pets for sport and entertainment and others just keep their pets for

In a hunt such as this, their prey was wild boar. The hunters and their dogs would chase the prey to
exhaustion and at that point, go in for the kill. This target was rather dangerous, but nonetheless, the
sport was enjoyed. The other form of hunting, Bow and Stable hunting, was considered less strenuous
and both men and women participated in the activity. The main weapons used was a bow and arrow or
a spear. Riding on horseback, the huntsmen and huntswomen accompanied by several dogs, would
drive their prey into and enclosed area. Then, the hunters killed the prey in close range.
The dogs and horses participating in these activities prove to be very critical in the procedure of

Comparing Odour Of Chrysanthemums And The Rocking Horse
In the short stories Odour of Chrysanthemums and The Rocking Horse Winner, written by D.H.
Lawrence, women are represented as the inferior gender, both of who are not content with their lives,
due to living in their husband s shadows and picking up the pieces of their family s problems. Both
mothers are portrayed by Lawrence as not being entirely innocent, however, they do have a lot to deal
with, such as the mother s need for materialistic success in The Rocking Horse Winner and the mother
s need to be both parental roles, due to the lack of the father s presence in The Odour of

Elizabeth Bates, the wife and mother in the short story Odour of Chrysanthemums is first shown as a

she is not as blameless for her unhappiness as first thought. Although the story is told in third person,

action is likely to cause. He called this Hedonic Calculus and it was divided into seven different
categories. Bentham based this calculation off of intensity, or the strength of the pleasure, duration or

soon the pleasure will occur, fecundity or the likeliness it will be followed by pleasures, purity or
probability that feelings of the opposite will occur, and extent or how many people will be affected. I

Chaucer s Views Exposed in The Canterbury Tales Essay
Chaucer s Views Exposed in The Canterbury Tales
The Canterbury Tales were written and pieced together in the late 1380 s, early 1390 s. The author of
the book is Geoffrey Chaucer. When considering the structure of the tales, one can deduce that they
were put together using Framework Narrative, a very unique style of writing. The opening prologue
speaks of 29 pilgrims, including Chaucer, who are all on a pilgrimage to Canterbury. All of them are
seeking a certain shrine for spiritual cleansing, and relief. The journey was to be long, but in the end it
would all be worth it. Chaucer s social views and prejudices are revealed through his description of
the pilgrims in The Canterbury Tales.

At this point, one might construe that social status is somewhat important to Chaucer.
Chaucer s view of the clergy class is not as positive as his view of the ruling class. For example,
Chaucer describes the Prioress/Nun using a great amount of satire. He speaks of how the nun has
excellent etiquette and manners. She tries so hard to be respected and viewed as one with higher
status. Her character is best described in the quote:
· She took pains to imitate court behavior, to be dignified in bearing and to be considered worthy of
respect. (Chaucer Pg. 3 Line 26)
He says that the Monk deviated from traditional requirements expected of a
monk, such as hunting, and roaming throughout life beyond monastery walls. A quote that best
describes the monk is:
· Why should he study and drive himself crazy, always poring over a book in his cloister, or work and
slave with his hands as St. Augustine orders? (Chaucer Pg. 4 Line 21)
The Friar was the worst of them all. He was a gossiper, he was evil in his ways of offering absolution,
and he took advantage of people, rich and poor. He indulged in secular pleasures, and he only wanted
to work with the rich for what he could gain. He refused to work with the poor, for they were all

For the workers, modernization has meant learning new skills to operate sophisticated equipment.
Competition also has resulted in increasing specialization of steel production as various producers
attempt to capture different niches in the market. As international and domestic competition continue
for U. S steel producers, the nature of the industry and the jobs of its workers are expected to continue
to change.
Domestic steel prices declined significantly during 1998 and 1999, allegedly because of dumping of
subsidized, low priced steel products onto the U.S market by foreign producers. The steel industry
appealed to the Government for vigorous enforcement of trade laws in response to the alleged
dumping and received support from the U.S. Department of Commerce in the form of antidumping
duty margins against several countries. Later, the International Trade Commission ruled against the
industry claiming that the industry did not suffer irreparable damage from the extra imports. (4)
The U. S Antidumping Act of September 8, 1916 allows civil actions and criminal proceedings to be

Companionship In John Steinbeck s Of Mice And Men
Humans Crave Companionship When one infant in a pair of prematurely born twins drew near death
soon after birth, the doctors tied everything to save her, but the only thing that could improve her

He makes this point through the friendship of George and Lennie. In the beginning of the novel, the
two friends are in the woods, heading to their new work at a ranch in Soledad. When they stop by a
river to settle down for the night, George tells Lennie, If them other guys gets in jail they can rot for
all anybody gives a damn. But not us, (Anderson 14). In this quote, George is saying that he and
Lennie are different than all the other workers on the ranch because they have each other. Unlike the
other guys on the ranch, George and Lennie are companions: Loyal friends who care about and protect
each other. George is saying that because they are companions, they will always have someone who
watches out for them. If one of them gets locked up in jail, the other will get them out. They help each
other because they care about the other s well being. Even if one of them gets in trouble, the other one

To tackle this, it undertook the following steps:
1. In order to gain more market share, Kellogg s decided to launch two highly successful brands
internationally Chocos in 1996 and Frosties in 1997 in India. Both of the brands were very successful
and sales picked up significantly. It also started providing its offering in retail packs of different sizes.
This enabled the company to cater the needs of different individuals.
2. Leveraging on the success of Chocos that the company decided to expand the brand by foraying in
to the cereal biscuit area with the launch of Chocos Cereal Biscuits. Kellogg s started concentrating on
establishing its brand name in the market irrespective of the off take. The focus was entirely on being
present and visible on the retail shelves with a wide range of products.
3. Kellogg s are realized that in order to sell more they had to adopt the local flavor and hence this led
to the total Indianization of its flavors in future. This resulted in the launch of the Mazza line of

Analysis Of Dear White People
The television series Dear White People by Justin Simien portrays stereotypical problems of racial
identity in today s society, however, the creator imbeds the series with hidden messages that are not
particularly intended. The show exemplifies how people of color try to deal with living in a society
where they are not particularly welcome in a place of elite higher education. It follows a group of
colored students as they navigate through life in college attending a primarily white Ivy League
university. In the series, the creator implements the ideas of two sided racism, political correctness,
and misplaced power.
Although this show suggests it is about white people and their faults, Simien portrays two sided
racism in the series although it is not addressed head on. The show s protagonist, Sam White who is
also a woman, is characterized as the angry black chic on campus because she believes all white
people have white privilege. She speaks her mind through her radio show Dear White People where
she bashes white people and their beliefs. Throughout the series, Sam speaks against white people as
oppressors, however, most people don t recognize that this is also a form of racism. For example, in
season one episode one, Sam is caught in a scandalous relationship with a white man. Those who look
up to her as a leader to the black community are disgusted with her. As the episode progresses Sam
tried to integrate her white boyfriend, Gabe, into her group but he is not welcomed. This implies that
one should not mix with the other side or everything you stand for is void. Although the show doesn t
blatantly state it Sam s group of colored friends are oppressing white people. Oppressing those who
oppress others does not make one right. The colored characters in this series blame all white people
for their problems and portray white people as always in the wrong. The show is focused on how
white people oppress others and further racism, however, what one doesn t recognize is that when the
group being oppressed upon retaliates with the exclusion of their oppressors it doesn t make them any
better. This message is not obvious but still heavily embedded throughout the series.
In Dear White People , political

Quotes From Jack London s Into The Wild
1. In this novel, one minor character is Manuel, a garden worker. He is one of Buck s master s
employees. He steals Buck and sells him qualifying him as unworthy to work because he stole from
his employer. He is addictive because of his gambling habits along with poor. Because he is addicted
to gambling and poor, he cannot pay for food for his family making him greedy.
3. a.) These men wanted dogs, and the dogs they wanted were heavy dogs, with strong muscle by
which to toil, and furry coats to protect them from the frost (London 1). This description foreshadows
Buck s future. Because he was half St. Bernard and half Sheepdog, weighing 140 pounds, I believe
this quote explains him perfectly, given he was chosen.
b.) The sled lurched ahead in what appeared a rapid succession of jerks, though it never really came to
a dead stop... half an inch... an inch... two inches... The jerks perceptibly diminished; as the sled
gained momentum, he caught them up till it was moving steadily along (London 6). This passage
shows why Buck was sold, he is pulling a sled with a thousand pounds alone. His adaptability and
strength overpowers most dogs.
c.) Never such a dog as dat Buck, he cried. No, never! Him worth one thousand dollair by Gar!
(London 4). Buck grew to be well respected whether he was in California, working as a sled ... Show

Christopher Faustus Analysis Briseida Garcia Independent Study Theatre History 2 Dr. Terry Donovan Smith November 2, 2017 Historical Analysis Christopher Marlowe born in Canterbury, England his exact birth date is not known which why it is based when he received his baptism in 1564. Marlowe was a poet and playwright who was very prominent in the dramatic renaissance in the 16th century. Marlowe was a University graduate with a bachelor s of arts. He tried to obtain his Masters, but the University gave him a hard time in doing so. His first plays were performed in the late 1580 s and were quite successful in Elizabethan Theatre. Near the end of his life, Marlow got in trouble with the law when he was accused of a crime; the crime being atheism and blasphemy. He was later killed during a fight in 1593 by Ingram Frizer when he stabbed him in the forehead. Marlowe was a very young playwright for his time. Because he died at age 29, his literary career lasted less than six years. Dr. Faustus was his most popular written work which ensured his legacy for centuries to come. His influences and inspirations for the tragedy of Faustus were based on older German legends. The origin of Faustus came from a Latin term which meant fortunate or lucky. It was also rumored that Faustus was the brother in law to the devil. The play was written in blank verse and pros, which became popular by Marlow himself. • 10. The Beautiful Painting by Edward Hopper, House by the... I. Description The painting, House by the Railroad, by Edward Hopper was completed in 1925. The house he painted was in the style of a Victorian house. The house was built next to railroad tracks. He painted House by the Railroad with oil based paint on a canvas. The artwork is a twenty four by twenty nine inches in a frame. When I look at this painting, the first thing I think of is where is it located? It looks like it is in the middle of nowhere but then again it looks like it is in a town because of the railroad tracks. The house is built next to the railroad tracks but there are no trees. The house contains several windows which I think would be neat. In this painting, he uses vertical and horizontal lines. He used vertical lines for the columns of the house and parts of the house. He also uses horizontal lines for parts of the house and the railroad tracks. Many of the lines Edward Hopper painted were medium size. The painting is painted with several figures lined up. If you look at the front of the house, you can tell that it is square on top of another square. The one on the bottom left is also a square but it is bigger. The picture and the lines are very soft. The lines in the picture never seem to overlap each other. The way the sun is in the picture makes it look absolutely beautiful. The sun could be either rising or setting by the look of the artwork. House by the Railroad was painted in the United States. Edward Hopper painted this picture after he came back ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

JC Penney offers clothing, bed and bath products, home items, clothing accessories, and patio furniture. Clothing is the main area of production for JC Penney and accounts for more than 50% of sales. Price: JC Penney has recently decided to move to three kinds of prices: everyday, monthly specials, and clearances. They came to this strategy through a variety of studies. First, using past sales data, the company looked at consumers actual purchasing behavior, and came up with what it terms Fair and Square pricing, which means shoppers can expect lower prices in stores at all times. To reach this conclusion, research showed 72% of JC Penney s revenue came from selling items priced at least 50% off. Thus, in the example cited in most recent news stories about the Fair and Square strategy, a T shirt that had retailed for US$14 but typically sold after markdowns at US$6, would now be priced at a US$7 every day. In fact, adults are considered to be at their physical peak during this phase of life with most young adults claiming to be in good to excellent physical health. The other distractors, including listening to music and talking on a cell phone, had effectively no impact on reaction time in comparison to having no distraction. In order convert the distance the meter stick fell into the given unit of time (seconds or hours), the time equation shown in the sample calculation was used. This equation directly found the reaction time in seconds, which allowed the team to calculate the reaction time in hours. Dimensional analysis was used to convert seconds to hours, which resulted in extraordinarily small quantities that warranted the use of scientific notation. From there, the team had to determine in each case how far a car traveling at 60 miles per hour would travel before brakes would be applied. To do this, the team used the equation v=d/t to find distance, and thus rewriting it as d=vt. This equation determined the distance in miles, prompting the team to again use dimensional analysis to find the distance in feet. The data that was tested without ... One concern that has always been in the decision making process is trying to make sure the outcome will always be ethically good, although this isn t always the case. Jeremy Bentham created an algorithm to determine the degree or amount of pleasure that a specific action is likely to cause. He called this Hedonic Calculus and it was divided into seven different categories. Bentham based this calculation off of intensity, or the strength of the pleasure, duration or how long the pleasure will last, certainty or how likely it is pleasure will occur, propinquity or how soon the pleasure will occur, fecundity or the likeliness it will be followed by pleasures, purity or probability that feelings of the opposite will occur, and extent or how many people will be affected. I will try to put some of the major failures of the Titanic in to these categories to determine the ethical standing of the engineers responsible for the Titanic. When analyzing this disaster the first thing to consider is the engineer s design of the Titanic. The Titanic was employing many new and innovative designs that were believed to make the Titanic the safest ship ever built at that time. The engineer s of the vessel made claims that the Titanic was unsinkable and that even in the worst possible accident at sea, the ship should have stayed afloat for two to three days. One of the features that lead them to this claim was the 16 watertight compartments in the hull of the ship. • 41. Analysis Of Dear White People The television series Dear White People by Justin Simien portrays stereotypical problems of racial identity in today s society, however, the creator imbeds the series with hidden messages that are not particularly intended. The show exemplifies how people of color try to deal with living in a society where they are not particularly welcome in a place of elite higher education. It follows a group of colored students as they navigate through life in college attending a primarily white Ivy League university. In the series, the creator implements the ideas of two sided racism, political correctness, and misplaced power. Although this show suggests it is about white people and their faults, Simien portrays two sided racism in the series although it is not addressed head on. The show s protagonist, Sam White who is also a woman, is characterized as the angry black chic on campus because she believes all white people have white privilege. She speaks her mind through her radio show Dear White People where she bashes white people and their beliefs. Throughout the series, Sam speaks against white people as oppressors, however, most people don t recognize that this is also a form of racism. For example, in season one episode one, Sam is caught in a scandalous relationship with a white man. Those who look up to her as a leader to the black community are disgusted with her. As the episode progresses Sam tried to integrate her white boyfriend, Gabe, into her group but he is not welcomed. This implies that one should not mix with the other side or everything you stand for is void. Although the show doesn t blatantly state it Sam s group of colored friends are oppressing white people. Oppressing those who oppress others does not make one right. The colored characters in this series blame all white people for their problems and portray white people as always in the wrong. The show is focused on how white people oppress others and further racism, however, what one doesn t recognize is that when the group being oppressed upon retaliates with the exclusion of their oppressors it doesn t make them any better. This message is not obvious but still heavily embedded throughout the series. In Dear White People , political ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
