1. Proposal
1
Working Title:
The working titles for my magazine are currently: Make Christmas magical, Make Christmas great
again, Christmas (is) to DIY for, craftmas
Audience:
My audience for my magazine is majority everyone who can purchase one and or, persuade
people to buy one as that also has an influence. This is because I am making a Christmas
magazine and most people enjoy the holiday season. Therefore, to make this happen I will market
my magazine towards a more grown up audience with some popping colours to get younger
audiences attention. As I am looking to make a do it yourself (DIY) type magazine all social
statuses are included but it will be more aimed towards middle and lower status people as the
magazine can be fun and a cheaper alternative which people who buy more expensive products
might not be interested in. The magazine will be gender neutral and be all-inclusive. I will target
people with lifestyle/psychographics of emulators, social conscious type A, belongers, balanced
(totally integrated). This is because these types of people are more likely to want to make the
world a better place and do things like recycle, respond to messages about making them more
successful; As well as that they are most likely living in a small city and will respond to messages
that are family or community oriented.
Rationale (approx. 100 words)
Throughout my time on this, course so far I have picked up many more skills in a good few adobe
software’s; For example, Photoshop, premier, illustrator and audition. I used these to produce
things like an Advergame. The skills I gained in creating the Advergame were; creating
background and characters with pixels, mouse control when using a brush and animation in
Photoshop. Some of these skills could be useful to my print project if I want to give it a more
personal effect like drawn on arrows and annotations. I have also been practicing different effects I
could do to images in Photoshop, like pixelated people, double exposure, creating cartoon replicas
of real photos and cutting out items or people and placing them in a different image and making
them look natural. This mixture of skills in Photoshop can become very helpful if I want to edit
images for my cover of double page spread.
Project Concept (approx. 200 words)
The concept of my project is themed around Christmas; I could take this many different ways but I
want to look at crafts and recipes (stuff that most people can generally use/ do). Depending on if I
am only able to do one double page spread will change the layout of the one I will do or I might just
have to stick with one of those ideas so I will create two trials of the experiment page so I know
which one I want to use.
I will need to research existing products and look at how they layout their pages and their text to
image ratio. Then I need to research different easy crafts the majority of people ae able to do that
are themed around Christmas. Also, research easy Christmas cooking or baking recipes; for
example, Christmas cookies. This is to give me a variety as cooking can also be considered a type
of DIY craft. I will also need to collect photographic research if I plan to use my own photographs
to find the best on to put on the cover and in the magazine. If I am unable, I will have to search
online and be prepared to edit the photos so they are my own instead of a copy.
Evaluation (approx. 50 words)
I will evaluate my progress in an ongoing evaluation with my experimental products up until I finish
the product. Then to evaluate my finished work, I plan to get not just myself to point out what could
have gone better or I like, I will get the opinion of a couple others who I am marketing towards.
This helps me also learn from their perspective of someone who has purchased it. For example,
did they get what they expected? Are they disappointed? Etc. Therefore, in the future, if I do this
again I will have an even better understanding of what I need to do to make my magazine the best
it can be. This will help the in rest of my media course and potential careers as it helps me
understand different audiences.
