Managerial Levels
• Management levels signifies the hierarchy of
management
• The management is divided in levels
depending upon the size of business, no. of
workers and effective span of control
• There are three basic levels of management
– TOP MANAGEMENT
– MIDDLE MANAGEMENT
– LOWER MANAGEMENT

Top Management
• It consists of Board of Directors and Chief
executives ( MD, GM etc) or a group consisting
of chirman and functional/ executive
directors)
• It lays down policies & objectives of the
enterprise
• It coordinates the affairs of the business and
reviews the performance of the middle and
lower levels.

Middle Management
• It consists of heads of various departments
• Their job is to organize their departments to
implement the top management’s policies.
• They serve as a channel of communication
between the top and lower management

Lower Management
• It is also known as operative or supervisory
level
• It consists of foreman, supervisors, office
superintendent etc
• They are more concerned with direction and
control functions as compared to planning &
organizing functions of management

resolving conflicts, leading team, negotiating
new contracts, representing the department
etc.

has recognized 10 primary roles that can be
used to describe the functions of manager.
