Act of preventing or make impossible
by prior action.

5. Dentistry
The healing science and art concerned
with the care and health of all the tissues
comprising the mouth.

6. Definition
Preventive dentistry is all of dentistry
and encompasses those practices by
individual and community that affect
the oral health status.

7. Preventive dentistry is broadly divided into
three different levels.
a. Primary level of prevention.
c. Tertiary level of prevention.
b. Secondary level of prevention.

8. Primary Prevention
Employs technique and agents to abort the
onset of disease to reverse the progress of the
initial stages of disease or to arrest the disease
process before the treatment becomes necessary .

9. Secondary Prevention
Employs routine treatment methods to terminate a
disease process and to restore to as near normal
as possible.

10. Tertiary Prevention
Employs measures necessary to replace lost
tissues and to rehabilitate patient to the point
that the function is as near normal as possible.
