Exploring Public Speaking Chapter 9: Presentation Aids in Speaking162
9.1 - What Are Presentation Aids?
When you give a speech, you are presenting much more than just a col-
lection of words and ideas. Because you are speaking “live and in person,”
your audience members will experience your speech through all five of
their senses: hearing, vision, smell, taste, and touch. In some speaking
situations, the speaker appeals only to the sense of hearing, more or less
ignoring the other senses except to avoid visual distractions by dress-
ing and presenting himself or herself in an appropriate manner. But the
speaking event can be greatly enriched by appeals to the other senses. This
is the role of presentation aids.
Presentation aids are the resources beyond the speech itself that a
speaker uses to enhance the message conveyed to the audience. The type
of presentation aids that speakers most typically make use of are visual
aids: pictures, diagrams, charts and graphs, maps, and the like. Audible
aids include musical excerpts, audio speech excerpts, and sound effects.
A speaker may also use fragrance samples or food samples as olfactory
(sense of smell) or gustatory (sense of taste) aids. Finally, presentation
aids can be three-dimensional objects, animals, and people; they can
change over a period of time, as in the case of a how-to demonstration.
As you can see, the range of possible presentation aids is almost infinite.
However, all presentation aids have one thing in common: To be effective,
each presentation aid a speaker uses must be a direct, uncluttered exam-
ple of a specific element of the speech. It is understandable that someone
presenting a speech about Abraham Lincoln might want to include a pho-
tograph of him, but because everyone already knows what Lincoln looked
like, the picture would not contribute much to the message unless, per-
haps, the message was specifically about the changes in Lincoln’s appear-
ance during his time in office.
Other visual artifacts are more likely to deliver information more directly
relevant to the speech—a diagram of the interior of Ford’s Theater where
Lincoln was assassinated, a facsimile of the messy and much-edited Get-
tysburg Address, or a photo ...
Semiotics, as an integrative discipline, combining knowledge from different realms, seems to be the most useful approach in managing brands and designing marketing communication. This presentation offers a glance overview of how brand can be seen from this perspective and shows how it can be beneficial for advertising agencies and PR companies while designing the brand communication.

Neuro-symbolic is not enough, we need neuro-*semantic*Frank van Harmelen
Neuro-symbolic (NeSy) AI is on the rise. However, simply machine learning on just any symbolic structure is not sufficient to really harvest the gains of NeSy. These will only be gained when the symbolic structures have an actual semantics. I give an operational definition of semantics as “predictable inference”.
All of this illustrated with link prediction over knowledge graphs, but the argument is general.

Kubernetes & AI - Beauty and the Beast !?! @KCD Istanbul 2024Tobias Schneck
As AI technology is pushing into IT I was wondering myself, as an “infrastructure container kubernetes guy”, how get this fancy AI technology get managed from an infrastructure operational view? Is it possible to apply our lovely cloud native principals as well? What benefit’s both technologies could bring to each other?
Let me take this questions and provide you a short journey through existing deployment models and use cases for AI software. On practical examples, we discuss what cloud/on-premise strategy we may need for applying it to our own infrastructure to get it to work from an enterprise perspective. I want to give an overview about infrastructure requirements and technologies, what could be beneficial or limiting your AI use cases in an enterprise environment. An interactive Demo will give you some insides, what approaches I got already working for real.

Connector Corner: Automate dynamic content and events by pushing a buttonDianaGray10
Here is something new! In our next Connector Corner webinar, we will demonstrate how you can use a single workflow to:
Create a campaign using Mailchimp with merge tags/fields
Send an interactive Slack channel message (using buttons)
Have the message received by managers and peers along with a test email for review
But there’s more:
In a second workflow supporting the same use case, you’ll see:
Your campaign sent to target colleagues for approval
If the “Approve” button is clicked, a Jira/Zendesk ticket is created for the marketing design team
But—if the “Reject” button is pushed, colleagues will be alerted via Slack message
Join us to learn more about this new, human-in-the-loop capability, brought to you by Integration Service connectors.

Securing your Kubernetes cluster_ a step-by-step guide to success !KatiaHIMEUR1
Today, after several years of existence, an extremely active community and an ultra-dynamic ecosystem, Kubernetes has established itself as the de facto standard in container orchestration. Thanks to a wide range of managed services, it has never been so easy to set up a ready-to-use Kubernetes cluster.
However, this ease of use means that the subject of security in Kubernetes is often left for later, or even neglected. This exposes companies to significant risks.
In this talk, I'll show you step-by-step how to secure your Kubernetes cluster for greater peace of mind and reliability.

6. How to write about a presentational device:
The visual picture of the tropical shoreline shown in ‘The Dominican Republic’ advert has connotations
of a harmonious place, untroubled, stress free, secluded and restful; all the qualities a person
is after when they are on holiday.
The blue ocean is isolated, with no people featured; this suggests that this would be the perfect
escape from the rat race. The palm trees supports the idea of an idyllic breakaway.
