AIM OF THE PROJECT
 To plan and design the complete structure of a Highway Bridge
 To ensure that a project achieves its objectives to deadline and within
budget and time
PROJECT LOCATION
Our project is constructed over Sali River near Sonamukhi on
Sonamukhi-Rangamati-Durgapur Road (MDR) 2 KM from
Sonamukhi Railway Station in Bankura District
PERMIT
This project is constructed by MACKINTOSH BURN LTD. supervised under
P.W.D(Roads), Bishnupur Sub Division. The Ministry of Highway
Development, Government of West Bengal announced Rs 13.5 corer for this
project.

PILE FOUNDATION
Pile foundation is required when the soil bearing
capacity is not sufficient for the structure to
withstand. Pile foundations are capable of taking
higher loads than spread footings.
BEARING
A bridge bearing is a component of a bridge which typically
provides a resting surface between bridge piers and the bridge
deck. The purpose of a bearing is to allow controlled movement and
thereby reduce the stresses involved.
The Elastomeric bearing allows the deck to translate and rotate, but
also resists loads in the longitudinal, transverse and vertical

PRELIMINARY SURVEY
BENCHMARK: G.T.S BENCH MARK TAKEN FROM SONAMUKHI -- DURGAPUR ROAD OF
D.V.C CANAL BRIDGE ON TOP OF EAST SIDE WING WALL OF VALUE - 196 FT. OR 50.780 M
 With the respect of D.V.C canal benchmark a new benchmark is set up near the site
of 50.24 m RL
 The instruments used to determine reduced level include Optical Levelling
instruments like Automatic Level, Levelling Staff and Tripod stand RL of a survey
point is determined by Height of Instrument method.
SAFTEY ASPECTS
 A firm, well supported walking platform should be used while
working at heights to ensure safety
 TMT rods should been stacked properly
 Availability of Hand gloves, safety helmets, safety belts and safety
shoes
 Caution boards should be provided
 Fire extinguishers should be provided on site
ACKNOWLEDGEMENT
We can conclude that there is difference between the theoretical and practical work done. As
the scope of understanding will be much more when practical work is done. As we get more
knowledge in such a situation where we have great experience doing the practical work.
I express our ineptness and gratitude to our site engineer of MACKINTOSH BURN LTD. for his
guidance, support and care taken by him in helping us to complete the project work
successfully. I am thankful to his team members for their support and guidance throughout the

  • 3. AIM OF THE PROJECT  To plan and design the complete structure of a Highway Bridge  To ensure that a project achieves its objectives to deadline and within budget and time

PROJECT LOCATION Our project is constructed over Sali River near Sonamukhi on Sonamukhi-Rangamati-Durgapur Road (MDR) 2 KM from Sonamukhi Railway Station in Bankura District PERMIT This project is constructed by MACKINTOSH BURN LTD. supervised under P.W.D(Roads), Bishnupur Sub Division. The Ministry of Highway Development, Government of West Bengal announced Rs 13.5 corer for this project.

  • 8. PILE FOUNDATION Pile foundation is required when the soil bearing capacity is not sufficient for the structure to withstand. Pile foundations are capable of taking higher loads than spread footings.
  • 9. BEARING A bridge bearing is a component of a bridge which typically provides a resting surface between bridge piers and the bridge deck. The purpose of a bearing is to allow controlled movement and thereby reduce the stresses involved. The Elastomeric bearing allows the deck to translate and rotate, but also resists loads in the longitudinal, transverse and vertical directions.Elastomeric Bearing at the site

  • 12. PRELIMINARY SURVEY BENCHMARK: G.T.S BENCH MARK TAKEN FROM SONAMUKHI -- DURGAPUR ROAD OF D.V.C CANAL BRIDGE ON TOP OF EAST SIDE WING WALL OF VALUE - 196 FT. OR 50.780 M  With the respect of D.V.C canal benchmark a new benchmark is set up near the site of 50.24 m RL  The instruments used to determine reduced level include Optical Levelling instruments like Automatic Level, Levelling Staff and Tripod stand RL of a survey point is determined by Height of Instrument method.
  • 13. SAFTEY ASPECTS  A firm, well supported walking platform should be used while working at heights to ensure safety  TMT rods should been stacked properly  Availability of Hand gloves, safety helmets, safety belts and safety shoes  Caution boards should be provided  Fire extinguishers should be provided on site
  • 14. ACKNOWLEDGEMENT We can conclude that there is difference between the theoretical and practical work done. As the scope of understanding will be much more when practical work is done. As we get more knowledge in such a situation where we have great experience doing the practical work. I express our ineptness and gratitude to our site engineer of MACKINTOSH BURN LTD. for his guidance, support and care taken by him in helping us to complete the project work successfully. I am thankful to his team members for their support and guidance throughout the period of project.
