The document summarizes how the magazine cover and contents were designed to attract the target audience of 14-19 year olds. The front cover features two attractive boys to appeal to teenage girls, and uses a dark color scheme to also attract teenage boys. It promises to reveal secrets about the boys to intrigue readers. The contents page lists seven headlines to entice readers to learn more. The double page spread focuses on an interview with a 18-year-old female singer to relate to the target female audience and satisfy their interest in celebrity relationships.
4. FRONT COVER
The magazine is made for 14-19 years olds. I chose this range because after my
magazine research that I did at the beginning of my task, I found out that these ages
buy magazines most often compared to adults and younger children. My magazine is
aimed at both females and males for the reason that I didn’t want my magazine to be
biased. Aiming the magazine at both genders, gives me a wider and bigger audience to
attract. The colour scheme is quite dark to draw in the male type, being red, white an
black. Females still buy a magazine with these colours, however a most males would never
buy a magazine if it was pink.
To draw in the teenage females I have the front picture as two attractive boys, Girls at
this age are typically seen to fan girl when there is a boy band, buying their newest albums,
latest concert tickets, retweeting anything they say and following them everywhere ect. The
short sub-title of ‘The Boyz Reveal All’ is the first thing that catches the eye and
makes the audience want to know more, wondering ‘what are they revealing?’
5. The price is £3.25. I believe this is a reasonable price for 14-19 years and a
good price for the amount of content inside. The reason behind this price is that
I took into count what teenagers are doing during this stage of their life. Most
teenagers in this age range earn money by either working part time, getting
pocket money or just by doing simple chores around the house.
They love to know what the latest news and gossip is and are all into music. I
have made up my own web address so that the audience have better access to the
newest information and music charts that ‘Replay’ upload and know about.
The black bar at the top of the front cover page contains a shortened word, ‘vid’ to
link with their shortened and quick abbreviations that they use often.
Another example of how I addressed and attracted my audience is within the
subtitle. A short yet very catchy title. Fans want to think they know every single
thing about their favourite music artist. So the sub title ‘200 things you didn’t
know about…’ would definatly make the female want to know the facts.
6. CONTENTS PAGE
I have given seven short headers to tease the audience into wanting to know the
whole story, buying the magazine and reading on.
One of these headers is a rhetorical question, ‘Guess whose joining ‘The
Boyz’’. This was at first going to be my double page spread story, making Josh
join Jacob and Joe. However this idea changed when I preferred another
photo, of Shannon.
I have kept the same colour scheme as the front cover, a dark grey gradient
background and the red, and black.
7. DOUBLE PAGE
SPREAD
This page is mostly aimed at females. The reason is
because it is all about a female singer. She is 18
years old, so the same age as the audience, meaning
they can relate to her in some way.
The story is about an interview that Kelly Warrick
is doing to Laura Halo. She has had time off and
now we as an audience want to know why she is back
and where she has been. One of the question to her is
‘What's the love life like at the moment?’ I asked
this because girls want to know the celebrity gossip,
whose with who.
