2. Firstly, the term ‘pop music’ is vague when
attempting to describe a genre. For example;
you could be referring to pop rock, dance pop,
country pop, teen pop or even electro pop.
However, my magazine specifically targets teen
pop and music that is popular in the charts.
Music that links specifically to teenagers ageing
7-12 years of age where they are heavily
influenced by what they see on TV and on
social media.
3. I chose to target a very specific audience; 7-12
year old females. This is due to the fact that
they are heavily influenced by what they see on
TV, what they read in magazines and on social
media. For example; if they’re role model
dresses a certain way, they are likely to copy
and buy similar clothes and styles. The same
with makeup. This target audience will be
interested in reading a magazine that gives
them make-up and fashion tips from a well
known star that is likely to be seen as a role
model.
4. Artists that are seen as role models to my target
audience include: Ariana Grande, Taylor Swift,
Jessie J, Demi Lovato and Selena Gomez.
These are all well known pop stars. When
looking at other magazines that feature them
and have a similar audience, I noticed that they
often do interviews asking them about their
style and their makeup. So, in order to make my
magazine successful, I would need to
incorporate this idea in my magazine to catch
my target audiences attention.
5. The reason why I decided to target females
is due to their being a lot more female pop
artists, rather than males. Females dominate
the pop charts and are more associated with
creating pop music than males are. This is
why I chose to target females rather than
males and this influenced my colour scheme,
my models and what the topic of each article
would include.
6. The main article focused on an upcoming female star. I did a Q&A style
interview that focused on her make-up tips and her favourite clothing
designer, but also featured some of her personal life and her music life. The
reason I chose to include her personal life (e.g: how she started singing
which included information on her relationship with her mother) was because
it allowed the reader to feel more inclusive and as if they were reading top
secret information about this star that no one else knew, allowing them to feel
as though they were establishing a relationship with the star. I decided to
include information about her make-up and fashion tips because she is seen
as a role model and therefore it would make the interview a lot more
interesting as the reader could gain tips and become ‘more like their role
model’.
7. I have interviewed my potential readers that are
interested in pop music (I help at a basic level
dance class that is for ages ranging from 6-14) to
see if my magazine is effective for the target
audience I wanted. The questions I have asked
include:
1. From the front cover, does the magazine look
interesting?
2. Would you buy this magazine?

was really helpful and a lot more successful
as it showed me that my target audience
was realistic and I did create the magazine
that I set out to.
