2. TARGET AUDIENCE
My music magazine is going to be aimed at young, teenage females.
In my music magazine questionnaire this was the most popular age group that answered and there
was a larger percentage of females who answered, so I know that most of the answers I received would
correspond with what they were looking for.
Some of the results I received have really helped me to see what my target audience would like to
see in a pop magazine, for example it was obvious they would prefer Sans Serif font throughout as that
received 29 answers whereas Decorative font only received 9 answers. Also, when asked about what
colours they would like to be present throughout my magazine the colours purple and pink formed
92.9% out of the 340 answers I got for that question, so I will definitely be using these two colours a lot.
When asked about the sort of content people would prefer to see in my magazine there were high
answers of 34 for a Gossip Section. 39 for Interviews with Celebrities and 43 for a Chart List, these are
all stories that I will include in my magazine as I know for a fact that they will appeal to my target
audience as they were the most popular answers.
3. CONTENT OF MAGAZINE
In my music magazine questionnaire the most popular answers were interviews with celebrities, human interest,
gossip section and a chart list so I will include all these topics.

4. GENRE CONVENTIONS
IMAGERY:
The results I received from my questionnaire and after looking at magazines of my genre I noticed
that my target audience are interested in pictures of artists they like messing around and having fun,
I would also think to include some quite large pictures that would take up a whole page so the
readers could cut this image out and stick on their walls, also I would include some close up images
so girls can look at the make up that their favourite celebrities have on.
In my images I will try to have bright lighting to highlight the artist’s face as these will be what my
target audience will want to see and as my target audience is teenage girls they won’t really be
interested in dark images. I will also try to have my artists and celebrities dressed in bright or pastel
colours which again will appeal to my target audience and stereotypically people who enjoy pop wear
quite bright colourful clothing compared to dark and black clothes which more people who listen to
rap or rock would wear. I will conform to the expectations of my genre by applying bright colours
and poses that I have seen in many pop magazines.
6. GENRE CONVENTIONS
TYPOGRAPHY
Once again I feel like I will conform to the typical expectations of the types of fonts you see in a pop
magazine as this is what my questionnaire told me that my target audience want. Also after other
research when I was look at other pop magazines the type of Sans Serif font that was so popular in my
music magazine questionnaire results is what appears most in teen pop magazines and it works really
well.
The less formal font type creates a much more youthful and modern feel to the magazine, it looks
cooler than formal font which will be appreciated by my target audience.
I think at some points I will include some Script font maybe to write an artist’s name so it looks as if it
was handwritten and also perhaps could look more girl as well, this I think would also appeal to my
target audience.
8. GENRE CONVENTIONS
COLOUR SCHEME
The usual colour scheme you would see in a teen’s pop magazine is
pink and purple which are stereotypically seen as girls colours and
these also received really high results in my music magazine
questionnaire.
By choosing to use these typical colours I am conforming to the
expectations of the teen pop genre but I feel it represents the genre
best and it was what attracts my target audience.
10. PHOTOGRAPHY
MISE-EN-SCENE
Costume
In my images I will dress my female celebrities in brightly coloured,
up to date yet slightly quirky outfits. Any male artists I have in any
images I will have them dressed fashionably in slightly darker colours
so they appear more mature, by making them look more mysterious
by using darker colours they will appeal more to my target audience.
11. PHOTOGRAHY
LIGHTING
I will like to use bright lighting in all of my images so that it will
create a brighter image, this will appear more fresh and vibrant to
the reader creating a happier look.
I do think that it would work for some photographs to have
slightly darker lighting maybe for some pictures of boy bands to
create that ‘cooler’ feel.
12. PHOTOGRAPHY
MAKE UP
For different female artists I would picture I would have different
make up styles.
If there was a girl band or younger artist I would most likely have
them wear quite colourful make up that really stood out, however
for mature artists I think I would go for a more natural look.
13. PHOTOGRAPHY
PROPS AND SETTING
Setting wise I think I would have most of my images with male
artists outside, and any images of female artists inside a studio
with different, quirky backgrounds.
