The stomach is a saclike muscular organ located in the upper abdomen between the esophagus and intestines. It is around 12 inches long and 6 inches wide at its widest point. Food enters the stomach through the esophagus, and gastric juices are secreted to break the food down before it passes into the small intestine. The stomach lining contains millions of glands that produce these digestive juices.
