IN EDUCATION
Introduction:
“ICT stand for information and
communication technologies” and is defined, as
a “diverse set of technological tools and
resources used to communicate, and to create,
store, and manage information.”
“ICT implies the technology which consists
of electronic devices and associated human
interactive materials that enable the user to
employ them for a wide range of teaching-
learning processes in addition to personal use.”
ICT has become a part and parcel of life. The
discoveries and inventions in science and
technology have improved the speed of
communication. By making use of available tools,
ICT is helping common man to fulfill his needs. It
has become integral part of new era.
Through ICT, images can easily be used in
teaching and improving the retentive memory of
students.
Through ICT, teachers are able to create interactive
classes and make the lessons more enjoyable,
which could improve student attendance and
concentration.
PRINCIPLES OF ICT:
To enhance student knowledge and skills.
Focus on teacher development, training and ongoing
support.
Include individual learning and group learning.
Creating the interest and involvement in learning.
Developing vocabulary
OBJECTIVES OF ICT IN EDUCATION:
To improve the quality of education
To enhance the life long learning
To facilitate non formal education
To collect necessary information and to learn
To apply technology in learning situation
To present the content more effectively by using different
means and devices.
To present the content through PPT, 3-D effect etc
To believe that systems that include technology can
improve efficiency and/ or effectiveness of student learning.
To enhance teacher-learner contact, an essential part of a
good educational environment, through e-mail, chat
sessions, etc.
To encourage paced learning through tools such as
assignments, tutorials, broadcast programs, computers,
conferencing, etc.
ICT ENABLED EDUCATION:
Any educational program that is purely delivered through
ICTs, or with ICT delivered content as the primary
backbone of the teaching-learning process, such as online
courses through the web, is ICT enabled education.
This form of education requires ICT access and requires
that the learner use ICTs as a primary or basic medium of
instruction.
Strengths of ICT enabled education:
High speed delivery, wide reaches at low cost.
Uniform quality.
Quick access to information.
Easy availability of updated data
Connecting geographically dispersed regions
Wider range of communication media
Wider learning opportunities for pupils
Weaknesses of ICT enabled education:
High infrastructure and start up costs.
Lack of needed facilities, material and equipment and
favorable conditions for the use of ICT.
Resistance-attachment to old ways and fear-adoption of
the new.
Lack of provision- in pre-service stage nor in-service stage.
Advantages of ICT based teaching-learning process
ICT enhancing teaching and learning process
ICT enhancing the quality of education
ICT enhancing the accessibility of education
ICT enhancing learning environment
ICT creates the interest and involvement in
learning.
ICT increases the effectiveness in the utility of
TLM
ICT develops vocabularies
Learning computer skills
Getting a lot of information and ideas
ICT enhancing learning motivation
Conclusion:
ICT helps us in order to achieve life long learning &
facilitate non formal education through qualitative
resources with flexibility.

ICT ENABLED EDUCATION: Any educational program that is purely delivered through ICTs, or with ICT delivered content as the primary backbone of the teaching-learning process, such as online courses through the web, is ICT enabled education. This form of education requires ICT access and requires that the learner use ICTs as a primary or basic medium of instruction.
