This document outlines a research proposal presented by the 7 Star Group to study traffic jams in Dhaka City, Bangladesh. It introduces the group members and acknowledges their audience. The contents section lists topics to be covered including objectives, literature review, methodology, and conclusions. The introduction defines traffic as a major problem in Dhaka, costing economic and physical stress. The literature review discusses previous research on causes like vehicle volume, signaling, and lack of infrastructure planning. The proposed methodology includes surveys, interviews, and statistical analysis to identify causes and solutions to traffic jams in Dhaka City.
Bangladesh is a most densely populated country in the world. The Traffic jam is the main and common problem in the country, especially Dhaka and Chittagong district. Dhaka is mega city and Dhaka is the capital of Bangladesh. More than twelve million people live in Dhaka and the population of Dhaka is increasing rapidly. So, many problems created by its huge population. Every day about seven hundred thousand rickshaws ply in road of Dhaka and the huge number of rickshaws is creating a Traffic jam in the city. Almost all the street is getting jammed by buses, CNG and rickshaws.
Traffic jam has become a regular feature of Dhaka city. Traffic jam obstructed increasing our trade and commerce. If we out from home for office or school, we may face jam and only twenty minute way may take two hours because of the jam. So that we need more time to reach our destination and we lose our valuable time. The students also face problems to attend their class times. For Traffic jam we cannot complete our task write time so our trade and commerce affected. We cannot provide goods and material with in due time. We have to spend half of the day on the road if we want to go somewhere in the city. It also polluted our environment because many vehicles gathering together are created sound and air pollution.

Evaluation of research proposal
What is research?
The systematic investigation into and study of materials and sources in order to establish facts and reach new conclusions.
What is proposal?
A plan or suggestion, especially a formal or written one, put forward for consideration by others.
A research proposal “is a document that outlines how you propose to undertake your research studies” (Mouton 2001:p.44).
Definition of research proposal
A research proposal is a document written by a researcher that provides a detailed description of the proposed program,
It is like an outline of the entire research process that gives a reader a summary of the information discussed in a project.
Importance of research proposal
Helps examine what the researcher intends to do.
Research proposal can serve as a document of contract for the project.
Research proposals can be effective starting places to discuss projects with your professors, too.
The research proposal is able to give an overview of the research project so that other people understand the scope of the research, the significance of the research, as well as your proposed methodology and chosen research method.
Advantages of research proposal
Fund to support your research
Allow you to review and critically evaluate your current research program
Convince yourself and others that your research is worth supporting
Keep you focused on your research program
Develop novel ideas during writing proposal.
Relationship of research proposal with research
Research proposal is a plan, and research is action.
Research proposal is compulsory for approving proposed research.
Research proposal is a schedule and research is activity.
Research proposal is a mirror of research

• An academic proposal is the first step in producing a thesis or major project. Its intent is to convince a supervisor or academic committee that your topic and approach are sound,
Non-academ
As is the trend worldwide, India is undergoing rapid urbanization. This means not only that more people than ever before
will be living and working in cities, but also that more people and more goods will be making more and longer trips
in urban areas. The costs of increasing dependence on cars is resulting in expensive road building and maintenance,
clogged and congested roads, high levels of energy consumption along with its economic and environmental costs, worsening
air and noise pollution, traffic accidents and social inequities that arise when the poor find transportation services
increasingly unaffordable.
“Mode choice between Roadway and Waterway ... • Roadway and waterway are plays an important role in our country’s society and economy as well as in our multi-modal transportation system. Its low expenses and high accessibility, as compared with other alternatives, amplifies a great demand

Determination of congestion charge for car users in cbd area of thiruvanantha...eSAT Journals
Abstract Congestion is a situation in which demand for road space exceeds supply and is characterized by slower speeds, longer trip times, higher transportation costs and increased vehicular queuing. Thiruvananthapuram, the capital city of Kerala, is the second largest and most populous city in the state. The roads and neighbourhoods of the city experiences more chronic congestion and serious crashes than ever before due to higher share of personalized transport and para-transit modes in traffic stream. The present study conducted in Central Business District (CBD) area of Thiruvananthapuram city. The periods of peak congestion in Thiruvananthapuram now last for 4 hours from 8.00 to 10.00 in the morning and from 4.00 to 6.00 in the evening. In this paper, an attempt has been made to assess the congestion level experienced on major road corridors of the city and to determine congestion charge for car users in Mahatma Gandhi Road, which is the most congested road corridor of Thiruvanathapuram city. The method used for the determination of optimal pricing is related to the point of pricing where the external costs are met by the revenue generated by the pricing level. Keywords: Congestion pricing, External costs of congestion, Travel time, Demand elasticity.

Identification of Factors to Improve Public Transit Services (A Case Study of...Dr. Amarjeet Singh
This research presents studies on a segment of highway to determine the quantitative factors that inuence transit services. Travel time and delay study is one of the method to determine quantitative factors. Tour time is described as the average period of time required to journey from one region to some other. Total departure time consists of gadgets which include total working time, places and general delay time. The examine section was done in Prithvi chowk to Tal chowk of Prithvi Highway which is turned to be 12.5 km long.
Additionally, it has been found that the principle variables affecting travel time are: postpone time because of forestall selecting and choosing up passengers, bus model and bus size.32 trips public transport carrier and a 10 trips non-public automobile journey have been held during peak hours. Models are developed the use of SPSS software to become aware of the relationship between the causes of delays and the overall-time delays. Travel time and learning delays can help reduce the number of private vehicles operating and increase the number of public vehicles in order to reduce congestion and improve the e efficiency of the public transport system. It turned into determined that there was a full-size distinction in tour time among the use of the public transit services and the car.

We all have good and bad thoughts from time to time and situation to situation. We are bombarded daily with spiraling thoughts(both negative and positive) creating all-consuming feel , making us difficult to manage with associated suffering. Good thoughts are like our Mob Signal (Positive thought) amidst noise(negative thought) in the atmosphere. Negative thoughts like noise outweigh positive thoughts. These thoughts often create unwanted confusion, trouble, stress and frustration in our mind as well as chaos in our physical world. Negative thoughts are also known as “distorted thinking”.

Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. 3. Introduction/Statement of the Research Problem
Dhaka city’s traffic system is considered to be one of the
most chaotic ones in the world. The residents are
compelled to undergo physical stress and suffer financial
losses in terms of man-hours lost on working days.
Various attempts were taken to reduce the intensity of
traffic problem in Dhaka City. Yet, there was no
improvement in the traffic situation.
Over 95% Vehicles does not comply with MVA*. Traffic
signalling system is ineffective during rush hours.
Elevated expressways, subways and multi-layer fly-over
across the city hold the key to solving the Problem.
Due to traffic jam, we are suffering economically, physically
and even mentally. So, we want to work on this vital issue
to find out the causes and suggest some realistic possible
solutions and their economic impact on the people of
Dhaka city.
4. Rational of the Study
Dhaka city has one of the worst traffic congestion
conditions in the whole world.
The flyovers, under-pass, elevated roads,
underground commuter systems are very common in
many of the world’s metropolis but very few in
Dhaka.
The time of offices, schools, markets are
unsynchronized.
We need to Know the economic, health &
environmental impact of Traffic jam.
Overall, finding the cause, effect/impact & possible
solutions of Traffic Jam in Dhaka City are the main
reasons of the study.
5. Objectives of Research Proposal:
Broad objective is to find out the possible causes & effect of
traffic jam in Dhaka City and to figure out the possible
solutions.
Specific Objectives: Objective and Scope of the study is
limited to -
i. Find out all the possible causes of traffic jam in Dhaka city.
ii. Find out the all possible solutions for the traffic jam in Dhaka
city.
iii. Rank the problems and solutions according to their impacts
and importance.
iv. Economic impact and benefit analysis of the problems and
solutions on the basis of: i) Fuel Consumption ii)
Transportation Cost
6. Md. Asadullah Khan has described the scenario of
traffic jam in Dhaka city in Daily Star with the title
“When shall we get rid of Dhaka city traffic jam?”,
published on October 20, 2007 .According to him with a
huge fleet of cars, buses and all other types of
vehicles gridlocked near a rail gate or road
intersection. People are afraid to get out of their houses
because of late in the offices, work places or on any
scheduled appointments, mental disgust, exhaustion and
loss of effective man hours is a colossal drain on the
resources of the whole country.
Literature Review of Study proposal.
7. Literature Review of Study proposal (Cont.…)
According to DCC there are about one lakh licensed
rickshaws in the city but unofficially perhaps four lakh
rickshaws are plying on the city roads. Due to rickshaws
on the same road lane, the fast moving transports can
hardly make 15 to 20 km per hour.
Mr. Md. Masud Karim Says, ‘Worsening situation of traffic
congestion in the streets and sufferings of the inhabitants
from vehicle emissions demand extensive research in this
field’.
‘The Greater Dhaka Metropolitan Area Integrated
Transport Study', funded by the United Nations
Development Program; recommended an immediate
action plan and a long-term strategy to improve transport
infrastructure in the Greater Metropolitan area of Dhaka.
8. Literature Review of Study proposal (Cont.…)
• Mr. AH Jaffor Ullah mentioned that, ‘One could see the
crawling vehicles, as far as the eyes would allow one to
see, lining up the avenues near the bustling
intersections. Intersections clearly indicates that Dhaka’s
road system is unplanned from the very beginning’.
• BIWTA conducted a research on “Water way around
Dhaka City, ‘According to them, if alternative water way
can be introduced around the Dhaka city, traffic jam can
be reduced. Government has tried But due to some
environmental and seasonal factors this project failed’.
9. Literature Review of Study proposal (Cont.…)
• Shuichi and Hironao have shown in their study that by
improving traffic signaling strategies can improve the
traffic situation of the street cars.
• Syed Saiful Alam Shovan has shown interesting
findings on fuel consumption and environmental impact
of rickshaw in Dhaka City. Most trips in Dhaka are short
in distance, usually one to five kilometers. These trips
are perfect of Rickshaws. Rickshaws are cheap,
popular, safe, environmentally friendly and do not rely
on fossil fuels.
10. Literature Review of Study proposal (Cont.…)
• As per DUTP-1998 data, Rickshaws took up 38% of road
space while transporting 54% of passengers, but private
cars took up 34% of road space while only transporting
9% of the population in Dhaka city.
• Every year the Rickshaw saves 100 billion taka in
environmental damage. Blaming Rickshaws, but Traffic is
still as bad now as it was before the Rickshaws were
banned on major roads.
• According to the knowledge reviews showing that due to
lack of effective planning and proper focusing on the
issues of traffic jam in Dhaka city, it has become a serious
problem now a days. So, Adequate research and some
alternative solutions might give us some hope and light to
