This document presents the results of a study on student perception of passenger safety on public buses. The study had two objectives: 1) to identify factors influencing bus driver performance related to passenger safety, and 2) to determine which bus facilities have the greatest impact on passenger safety.
The researchers administered a questionnaire to 15 students to collect data on their perceptions. For driver performance, students agreed that factors like alcohol testing, speed limits, training, and licenses were important. Regarding facilities, students strongly agreed that lighting, emergency exits, special seats, and CCTV promote safety. Based on the results, recommendations include additional driver training, counseling, incentives, and reasonable work shifts as well as improved facilities, CCTV, fire extingu

Transportation: Inspiring a Sustainability Action AgendaBarry Wellar
The slides in this presentation are for of a keynote address at the 2011 Sustainable Community Summit, Ottawa, Canada. My assignment is “To promote and guide discussion into the barriers and solutions associated with achieving the transportation element of a sustainable community.” As context for the discussion of barriers and solutions to achieving sustainable transport, I begin by explaining why I use “Inspire” in the title. I then list a dozen of my reports in which I examined various issues associated with sustainable transport, and another set of reports in which I previously discussed barriers and solutions to achieving sustainable transport in the City of Ottawa. The final context remark is to remind/inform attendees, and viewers of this presentation, of the ten reports from the project, Methodologies for Identifying and Ranking Sustainable Transport Practices in Urban Regions, which was undertaken for Transport Canada in 2008-2009. Emphasis then turns to two conditions which must be met in order to achieve the transportation component of a sustainable community. First, simultaneously reduce the number of trips made by private motor vehicles, and increase the number of trips made by walking, cycling, and transit. And second, actions are explicitly designed and methodologically implemented to increase transportation system flexibility. The presentation is concluded by a number of slides illustrating how the sustainability of a transportation system is determined by the combinations of transportation system outputs that are demanded by citizens, businesses, and government agencies, and the modes of transportation used by citizens, businesses, and governments to achieve those outputs. In the open forum to follow the presentation, Summit attendees will be asked for words of wisdom, guidance, and motivation to INSPIRE a sustainable transportation transformation across Ottawa, Ontario, and beyond.
Transportation Planning 101: The Role of Resource and Regulatory Agencies in ...Kristen Carney
Recently, FHWA put on a webinar entitled "Transportation Planning 101: The Role of Resource and Regulatory Agencies in Transportation Planning." The purpose of the webinar was to describe how statewide and metropolitan transportation planning works. The presentation was a good basic overview of transportation planning from the perspective of the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA).

Satisfaction with public transport: the case of an university accessIJERA Editor
This study presents the results of a diagnostic survey on the users satisfaction with the public transportation
system which enables access to a higher education institution (HEI), relating it to some socio-bio-demographic
characteristics. The research instrument, based on fuzzy logic, was answered by 184 randomly selected
passengers. The statistical analysis was performed with non-parametric tests (Kruskal-Wallis, Man Whitney,
Friedman and Wilcoxon). The results for the level of satisfaction were considered reasonable and it was
identified that the factors ''terminal/stops'' and ''comfort/service for passengers'' were the worst evaluated. It was
also identified that the age of the passengers, travel time and distance from the terminal/stop to the
origin/destination are associated with the level of satisfaction.
Transport planning is a science that study the problems that arise in proving transportation facilities in an urban, regional or national setting and to prepare a systematic basis for planning.
The principles of urban transport planning can be applied to regional or national transport planning as well with due changes.
Urban transport networks are no longer capable of accommodating the movement of road users and vehicles.
Levels of traffic overloading vary in time.
In city centres, motorised movements difficult and long-term car parking almost impossible because of narrow streets often accessible only to non-motorised traffic.
Awareness on Road Signs and Markings of Drivers and Passengers along Maharlik...IJAEMSJORNAL
Road signs and markings are an integral part of the transportation systems which are logically designed and employed to provide essential road information for commuters’ safety and protection. The study is an evaluation of drivers and passengers’ awareness regarding road signs and markings along Maharlika Highway in the Province of Nueva Ecija particularly between the cities of San Jose and Cabanatuan. While drivers understanding and perception of road signs and markings were very substantial in the study, the perceptions of common passengers wereadded, because they are generally the victims of road accidents. A total of 100 drivers and passengers from the locality were surveyed based on a 4-point Likert scale ranging from strongly disagree (1) to strongly agree (4). The findings showed thatdrivers were aware and knowledgeable about road signs and markings but did not strictly abide by it. Passengers, on the other hand, were not very much aware of road safety features like road signs and markings and relied heavily on the capability of drivers since they believe that drivers were following rules and regulations onroad signs and markings.

Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.
2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.
