Introduction:
A generic term covering all forms of belt and roots of material from
which belts are made up that are designed for the transmission of
power or for the purposes of covering or elevating. Belts are
multilayer fabric which is called treble cloth. In treble cloth there are
three series of warp and weft threads which from three distinct
fabrics one above the other.
Specification of Belt:
1. 1.2-7.0 ply fabric
2. Width = 0.4-1.5 meter
3. Thickness = 3-10 mm
4. Finishes = PVC coated
5. Weave: Face & Back = Twill weave, Centre plain weave
6. Stitching: Extra warp per two repeat.
Types of Belt:
Belt
Solid

Endless
woven Belt
A woven narrow fabric usually a plain
or 2/2 twill weave in which the warp
consists of one continuous thread
wound in a helix to the required length
and woven without join. So that the
first and last picks are adjacent.
Belting consists of more than one
ply, the plies being interlocked in
the weave or bound together by
binding threads in the course of
weaving(minimum 3 ply).

Critical Requirements of Driving Belt:
1. It should be rigid enough to carry considerable wt. for materials
without undue sagging between supports.
2. It should be sufficiently flexible to permit easy bending when
running over pulleys.
3. The construction of a belt must also be such that it will not permit
undue stretching under load.
Requirements of Belt Production:
1. More power is required to weave the belt.
2. More robust loom is required.
3. Multiple box motion is required.
4. Single or double warp beam is required.
5. Usual shedding mechanism mostly dobby is required.
6. Heavy beat up force required.
7. Often chemical finishes are applied to impart many desired
properties.
8. It may be multilayer: 2-7 layers.
Problem of Belt Production:
1. Undue stretching due to contraction at inner surface.
2. Expansion at outer surface.
3. Design problem
4. Stitching problem
5. Quick wear
6. Sagging
Yarn types used in conveyor belt fabrics:
The distinction is made between three types of yarn: monofilament,
multifilament, and staple fiber yarn. Monofilament is a man-made fiber and
consists of one “thick” filament which is used mainly in the weft direction
(transversal). A multifilament is also a man-made fiber; it is a thread that
contains many individual filaments which are twisted together to form a yarn.
Multifilament's are used in the warp (longitudinal) and weft (transversal)
direction. Staple fiber yarns can be manufactured with man-made or natural
fibers. In this regard, cut filaments are twisted together to a yarn.
End uses of Belt:
1. Power transmission: Flat belt-belt .
2. Conveying purpose: Mainly flat belt (speed 6-210 m/min).
3. Safety belt: Aircraft & car.
4. Sorting purpose: Speed 6-10 m/min.
5. Waist band: Police, Military.
6. Carrying purpose: Bag.
7. For reinforcing load carrying capability or roughness of luggage
bag.

Introduction: A generic term covering all forms of belt and roots of material from which belts are made up that are designed for the transmission of power or for the purposes of covering or elevating. Belts are multilayer fabric which is called treble cloth. In treble cloth there are three series of warp and weft threads which from three distinct fabrics one above the other.
  • 4. Specification of Belt: 1. 1.2-7.0 ply fabric 2. Width = 0.4-1.5 meter 3. Thickness = 3-10 mm 4. Finishes = PVC coated 5. Weave: Face & Back = Twill weave, Centre plain weave 6. Stitching: Extra warp per two repeat.

Types of Belt: Belt Solid woven Belt Endless woven Belt A woven narrow fabric usually a plain or 2/2 twill weave in which the warp consists of one continuous thread wound in a helix to the required length and woven without join. So that the first and last picks are adjacent. Belting consists of more than one ply, the plies being interlocked in the weave or bound together by binding threads in the course of weaving(minimum 3 ply).
  • 8. Critical Requirements of Driving Belt: 1. It should be rigid enough to carry considerable wt. for materials without undue sagging between supports. 2. It should be sufficiently flexible to permit easy bending when running over pulleys. 3. The construction of a belt must also be such that it will not permit undue stretching under load.
  • 9. Requirements of Belt Production: 1. More power is required to weave the belt. 2. More robust loom is required. 3. Multiple box motion is required. 4. Single or double warp beam is required. 5. Usual shedding mechanism mostly dobby is required. 6. Heavy beat up force required. 7. Often chemical finishes are applied to impart many desired properties. 8. It may be multilayer: 2-7 layers.
  • 10. Problem of Belt Production: 1. Undue stretching due to contraction at inner surface. 2. Expansion at outer surface. 3. Design problem 4. Stitching problem 5. Quick wear 6. Sagging
  • 11. Yarn types used in conveyor belt fabrics: The distinction is made between three types of yarn: monofilament, multifilament, and staple fiber yarn. Monofilament is a man-made fiber and consists of one “thick” filament which is used mainly in the weft direction (transversal). A multifilament is also a man-made fiber; it is a thread that contains many individual filaments which are twisted together to form a yarn. Multifilament's are used in the warp (longitudinal) and weft (transversal) direction. Staple fiber yarns can be manufactured with man-made or natural fibers. In this regard, cut filaments are twisted together to a yarn.
  • 12. End uses of Belt: 1. Power transmission: Flat belt-belt . 2. Conveying purpose: Mainly flat belt (speed 6-210 m/min). 3. Safety belt: Aircraft & car. 4. Sorting purpose: Speed 6-10 m/min. 5. Waist band: Police, Military. 6. Carrying purpose: Bag. 7. For reinforcing load carrying capability or roughness of luggage bag.
