2. 1. Tape Fabric: A Woven narrow fabric, generally plain weave used in
non-load bearing applications and the reinforcing of fabric to resist wear
and deformation.
Feature: 1- It’s a single ply woven narrow fabric.
2- Usually plain weave is used and also simple twill or zigzag twill
can be used.
3- width maximum 18’’ in uk standard and 12’’inusa standard.
4- weight is less then webbing, 850gm/100m of 25 mm width.

2. Webbing: Webbing is a strong fabric woven as a flat strip or tube of
varying width and fibers, often in place of rope.

4. Feature:1- It is a narrow fabric woven coarsely.
2- It is multiply fabrics.
3- It is produced in width up to and including 450mm.
4- weight should be greater than 1.3kg/100m of 25mm width.
5- Mainly spun yarn is used.

3. Ribbon: Ribbon is an attractive woven narrow fabric, characterized in
higher qualities by fine warp yarns and high warp density and usually of
lustrous appearance.

6. Features:1- It is an attractive narrow fabric.
2- High thread density.
3- Lustrous appearance.
4- Fine filaments are used generally but spun yarns can be
Used.
5- Mainly satin weave but plain or twill can be used.
6- The produce has a fudged edge.
End Use:1- Hair tie-up.

7. 4. Braid: Braid is one kind of narrow fabric. Braid for fabric use in form
on braiding machine by intertwining three or more strands of yarn. The
process of intertwining three or more strands is such that they cross
one another and are laid together in diagonal formation.
End Use:1- Braid is used in domestic, clothing, fashioning, industrial, medical
and sporting areas.
2- General areas uses are shoe lace, cloth lines, sash cord, electrical
Wire.
3- Growth areas are surgical suture, tube reinforcement, ropes and
cords of wide verities.

8. 5. Label: Label is garment accessories and also a narrow fabric. It is a
most important component of export quality garments because It
contains garments size, fiber composition, care information, country of
origin.
Types: There are two types of label-
1- Woven Label
2- Printed Label
Woven label: woven are classified according to use-
 Main label: It indicates the trade name of buyer.

1- Size label: It indicates the size of garments.
2- Care label: It indicates care instruction.
3- Composition label: It contain fiber composition.
Printed Label: printed label are two types:
1- Main Label.

 Raw material used: polyester yarn.
 Loom used: Air jet, rapier.
 Structure: woven design, satin: 4/1;5//1;6/1.
 Shedding: jacquard shedding is used.
 Label size: Ranges from ¼’’ to 8’’.
6. BELT: A generic term covering all from of belt and material from which
belts are made up that are designed for the transmission of power or
for the purpose of covering elevating.

10. Specification of belt:
 2-7 ply fabric.
 Width is 0.4-1.5m.
 Thickness is 3-10 mm.
 Finishes is pvc coated.
 Weave is for face and black twill weave. for center plain weave.
Problem of belt production:
 Under stretching due to contraction of inner surface and expansion at
other surface.
 Design problem.
 Stitching problem.

11.  Quick wear.
Characteristics:
 More power is required to weave the belt.
 More robust loom is required.
 Multiple box motion is required.
 Single or double warp beam is required.
 Usual shedding mechanism mostly dobby is required.
 It may be multilayer 2-7 layers.
7. Lace: Lace is an open fabric of yarns formed into open intricate design.
Lace is delicate, classic and always elegant. Their construction varies
from simple to complicated and fine to coarse construction.

12. Lace yarn: Yarn are used in making lace are stronger and more firmly
twisted than tarns used in other types of fabrics. Mono filament yarns are
also used for lace making. The use of the manmade fiber such as nylon,
polyester, acrylic with is inherent high strength has added durability to
lace.
Types of lace: 1- Typical laces.
2-Manufacturing lace.

13. Fabric properties:
 It is one of the most delicate groups of fabric.
 Liable to shrink and change their patterned shape and appearance.
 Lace is very susceptible to snagging or breaking in use because of the
many lose yarns, floats and loops that can get caught.
Uses:
 Lace is truly the aristocrat of textile fabrics.
 It is used for decorative appearance and its function is to adorn.
 Used for all over garments design.
8. Voile Fabric: Voile is a soft, sheer fabric, usually made of 100 %
cotton or cotton blended with linen or polyester. The term is French for
veil. Because of its light weight, the fabric is normally used in soft
furnishing.
It’s a plain weave fabric, it is generally made of combed hard twisted
single yarn.

 It is sheer and light weight fabric.
 It has soft feel.
 It drapes and gather very well.
 Generally 100% cotton and less resilient.
Uses:
 Ladies dresses, skirts and dress lining.
 Accessory fabric in apparels.
9. Poplin Fabric: Poplin fabric is characterized by its distinctive ribbed
texture and tightly closed weave, which gives the fabric the luster that
we all love. Traditionally when it was first created, poplin was a plain

15. weave constructed using fine silk warp yarn filled in with heavier wool
yarn.
Properties:
 It is a soft and medium weight fabric.
 It is durable and has good wear resistance.
 It has average durability.
 It has poor crease resistance.
Uses:
 Men’s shirts, blouses, pyjamas, children’s clothes and dresses.
 Perfect for, making banners or table drape displays in store or
tradeshows.

16.  It is also widely used as all kind of sportswear, shirts, boy’s suits,
uniforms, blouses and dresses.
10.Georgette Fabric: Georgette fabric is a light weight, crinkled
and sheer fabric, displaying an overall bouncy look. A strong absorbent
georgette is easy to dye and has dull-rough texture. Georgette is woven
in highly twisted yarns of S & Z, in both warp and weft. Georgette is
woven in two forms: pure and faux.

 Uneven texture and has crispy feel.
 It is a sheer fabric and light weight.
 It has elegant look but dull appearance.
 It snagging is more and is difficult to sew.

18.  Blouses, dresses, saris, gowns and skirts are some of most common
garments on which fashion designers frequently use Georgette.
 Many fashion designer also use georgette to adorn and accessorize
their designs, due to its high absorbent nature. Strings, waist belts,
bows, scarves, veils are few to name.
11.Chiffon: It is a fabric made of polyester with soft and crispy
texture. High twist yarn are used for weaving. It is flimsy in nature.
Made from highly twisted yarn and woven in gummed condition. It is a
light weight balanced plain woven fabric, or gauze, woven of alternate S
& Z twist crepe yarns.
Properties:

Uses:
 Chiffon is most commonly used in evening wear, especially as an
overlay for giving an elegant and floating appearance to the gown. It is
also a popular fabric used in blouses, ribbons, scarves and lingerie,
night gowns linings.
12. Satin/sateen fabric: Satin Is a weave that typically has a glossy
surface and a dull back. The satin weave is characterized by four or more
fill or weft yarns floating over a warp yarns or vice versa, four warp yarns
floating over a single weft yarn.

 Schreiner finish to produce luster.
 Soft and good drapability.
 It is flat and lustrous with a smooth surface.
 The surface slides easily for linings.
Uses:
 It is commonly used in apparel: satin baseball jackets, athletic shorts.

21.  Woman’s lingerie, nightgowns, blouses and evening gowns, but also in
some men’s boxed shorts, shirts and neckties.
 Other uses include interior furnishing fabrics, upholstery and bed
sheets.
13. Drill Fabric: Drill is stout durable cotton fabric with a strong bias in
the weave. It can be used unbleached, although it is more often bleached
or dyed. It is durable fabric of medium weight. Usually three harness warp
face left hand twills. It is made of carded yarns generally on coarser
counts.
Properties:

 It is also used as pocketing, shoe linings, book bindings and corsets,
backing for coated fabric ticking, banners, slip cover and sportswear.
14. Denim Fabric: Denim is a durable heavy weight twill woven fabric. To
make denim fabric, the weft yarn passes under two or more warp yarns.
Traditional denim is 100% cotton fabric. Additionally, denim is often blended
with other fabrics. Denim is very versatile fabric. Blue is original color of
denim but it is also dyed into different colors like black, brown and olive
green. Denim is most commonly used for making shirts, jackets, skirts,
dresses, hats, handbags and more.

23. Properties:
 Denim is popular worldwide for its fit case and durability. Below are the
some important properties of denim fabric. Denim is very strong and
durable.
 It is felling hard during wearing.
 It is warp faced twill, the colored warp yarn predominate on the face
and the white weft yarns on the back.
 Usually the warp is colored and weft is white.
 It is used for long time wearing.
 It resist tears and snags.

15. Corduroy Fabric: Corduroy is a textile with a distinct pattern, a
‘’cord’’ or wale. Modern corduroy is most commonly composed of tufted
cords. Sometimes exhibiting a channel between the tufts. Corduroy is, a
ridged form of velvet. Both velvet and corduroy derive from fustian fabric.
Properties:

 Used for better cloths, draperies and upholstery.

16. Cambric Fabric: Cambric fabric is one of the finest and most dense
kinds of cloth, is a lightweight plain-weave cloth, originally from the French
commune of cambrai, woven in greige, than bleached piece dyed and often
glazed or calendered.

 Has stiff feel.
 The fabric is light to medium weight.
 Have high tensile strength.
Uses:
 Home furnishing industries.
 Linens, shirting, handkerchiefs and as fabric for lace and needle work.
 Cambric is used as fabric for handkerchiefs, ruffs, lace and needle work.
17. Single Jersey-knits: Jersey fabric is a type of knit textile made from
cotton or a cotton and synthetic blend. some common uses of jersey fabric
include t-shirts, and winter bending. The fabric is warm, flexible, stretchy and
very insulating making it a popular choice for the layer worn to the body.

 Face side and back side of fabric are different.
 Curl or roll of fabric occurs at the edge.
 Wales are clearly visible on the face side of the fabric.
 Extensibility in widthwise is approximately twice than length.
 There is only one series of knitted loop per course in the fabric.

 Almost 100% recovery in the garments.

18. Double jersey – 1x1 knit Rib: double jersey is manufactured by
weft knitting technique. Two sets of needles are used fir face and back
knitting. Can be 1x1 ribs, 2x2 ribs, 2x1 ribs etc. Depending on the end use
interloping of yarn takes place.

 Used for manufacturing under garments.
19. Pique Knits: jersey fabric is manufactured by warp knitting technique.
It can be knitted using any fiber content. One set of needles are used for
knitting. Interloping of yarn takes place in vertical plane.
Properties:
 Stretch ability is low and elastic recovery is more than weft knit single
jersey.
 Sift and resilient.
 Non reversible type.
 High drapability and good fall.
 Good dimensional stability.

20. Slub jersey knits: Single jersey fabrics are manufactured by weft
khitting technique. Here interloping of sub yarn takes place. soft knitted tarn

21. Fleece Knits: It is available as brushed or unbrused fleece. It is a soft
napped insulating synthetic fabric made form polyethylene or other
synthetic fibers.

22. French terry knits: Available as 3 or 4 thread French terry in the
market. Soft twisted coarse yarn are used. It is manufactured on flat knitting
machine. Consists of tuck and miss structure on the back side. GSM of the
fabric is high. 100% cotton is used.

manufactured on circular knitting machine. GSM of the fabric is medium to

 High absorbent.

24. waffle: Fabric is manufactured by weft knitting technique. Soft twisted
are used. Waffle is a reversible woven knit fabric with a raised geometric
texture that looks like honeycomb. It can be solid or striper. 100% cotton or
blends may be use.
