A Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) provides information about the potential hazards of a chemical product. Chemical manufacturers are required to develop an MSDS for each hazardous chemical they produce or import. The MSDS describes physical and health hazards, exposure risks, safe handling and use instructions, first aid measures, and other important safety information. It must be in English and include specific details like chemical ingredients, physical properties, fire and reactivity data, toxicological effects, and emergency contact numbers. The MSDS helps ensure safe use and lets users know how to protect themselves properly.

 It is used by the chemical manufacturers and
importers to convey both the physical hazards
and the health hazards of their chemicals to the
end user.
 Chemical manufacturers and importers shall
obtain or develop a MSDS for each hazardous
chemical they produce and import.

information of:
 Potential hazards
(health, fire, reactivity
and environmental) and
how to work safely with
the chemical product.

5. USES OF MSDS:
 It is intended to tell what the hazards of the product
are.
 How to use the product safely, what to expect if the
recommendation are not followed.
 What to do if accidents occur.
 How to recognize symptoms of overexposure, and
what to do if such incidents occur.

6.  INFORMATION ON THE MSDS :
 Each material safety data sheet shall be in English
(although the employer may maintain copies in other
languages as well), and shall contain at least the following
information:
 The identity used on the label.
 If the hazardous chemical is a single substance, its
chemical and common name must be present.
 Physical and chemical characteristics of the hazardous
chemical (such as vapor pressure, flash point).

including the potential for fire, explosion, and
reactivity.
 The health hazards of the hazardous chemical,
including signs and symptoms of exposure, and any
medical conditions which are generally recognized
as being aggravated by exposure to the chemical.
 The primary route(s) of entry; (Absorption,
Ingestion, Inhalation, Injection )
 Note: MSDS expires for every three years.
