Pregnancy,childbirth and the puerperium
- 2. PREGNANCY • What is pregnancy? • Pregnancy, also known as gravidity or gestation, is the time during which one or more offspring develops inside a woman. • Pregnancy can occur by sexual intercourse or assisted reproductive technology.
- 3. PUERPERIUM • Puerperium is defined as the time from the delivery of the placenta through the first few weeks after the delivery. This period is usually considered to be 6 weeks in duration. By 6 weeks after delivery, most of the changes of pregnancy, labor, and delivery have resolved and the body has reverted to the nonpregnant state.
- 4. LIST OF SECTION • Pregnancy with abortive outcome-000-008 • Supervision of high risk pregnancy-O09-O09 • Edema, proteinuria and hypertensive disorders in pregnancy, childbirth and the puerperium- O10-O16 • Other maternal disorders predominantly related to pregnancy- O20-O29 • Maternal care related to the fetus and amniotic cavity and possible delivery problems- O30-O48
- 5. • Complications of labor and delivery- O60-O77 • Encounter for delivery- O80-O82 • Complications predominantly related to the puerperium- O85- O92 • Other obstetric conditions, not elsewhere classified-O94-O9A
- 6. ICD-10-CM GUIDELINES • If pregnant lady visits for encounter and the pregnancy is not related to that condition code from-Z33.1(pregnant state,incidental) • Patient presents for routine prenatal visits code from Z34.0 • Final character is used to identify in which stage complication occurs.
- 7. • Delivery may affect complication coding • Sequencing for pregnant patients with HIV or dibetes • Patient who is admitted because of an HIV-related illness and who is pregnant use code-098.7 • Depending on the patients HIV status,add B20-which includes AIDS
