Compare the Techniques Used in Two Adverts by Holiday...
Compare the techniques used in two adverts by holiday companies to target their audience and sell
their product.
In this essay I will discuss the similarities and differences of two holiday adverts; one for
Blackpool and the other for Ibiza. Firstly I will discuss the layout of the adverts. The Blackpool
ad has a central picture of recognisable attractions such as the Blackpool tower and ferris wheel by
the harbour which shimmers with light which brightens up the advert, similarly the Ibiza advert has
a central eye catching picture of three young people dancing laughing and a sexy young female
posing on her own on the beach whilst the sun is setting. The Blackpool ad has the writing on the
left hand side which states the main important ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Thirdly the colours. The Blackpool advert uses are soft but good colours such as white, black, with
a touch of pink, blue, orange and yellow to emphasis their heading and contact details. The colour
gold suggests, that having the best time of your life on your holiday. On the other hand Ibiza
advert uses bold: neon colours such as red, pink, yellow, black similar to Blackpool but more thistly
for the attention to target their on going audience, where as Blackpool was as bright appearance
mainly for the tower and Ferris wheel which mainly their dazzles with lights around them.
Blackpool was generally advertising for the older generation which is a calmer appearance for
relaxing, going sightseeing and having fun in a basic manner but on the other hand Ibiza advert
appealed for the younger generation which settles for livelier and exciting appearance for their
audience.
The language which was used in Blackpool was plain English which give full details which the
reader could understand clearly whereas Ibiza was written in slang for their slogan and also
written in a different font style and plain English for the contact, location and general aspects of
the holiday about getting there. Blackpool features their audience to read about more of their
advert, but Ibiza settles for more pictures and their language of detail cannot be read clearly but
also have a bright and groovy effect when you read their colourful advert. Their main idea of their

The Battle of Antietam Creek
The Battle of Antietam Creek
The Battle of Antietam Creek was a very bloody and important battle in the Civil war. The battle
was fought by two different armies within the Union and the Confederacy, The Army of the
Potomac (Union) and The Army of Northern Virginia (Confederate). Antietam Creek is located
just to the east of the Potomac River in Maryland. The battle was fought on a hill just above the
west bank of Antietam Creek. The Army of the Potomac, who was on the offensive, was pushing
towards the river. The Army of Northern Virginia, who was on the defensive, was on the bank
defending themselves from what is often referred to as a sea of blue. The men who fought in the
battle of Antietam Creek and the rest of the Civil War... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Army of the Potomac was led by Major General George B. McClellan. The army was made up
of six corps.
The six corps included the first, the second, the fifth, the sixth, and the ninth corps, and one

The Second Corps was under the command of Major General Edwin V. Sumner. The Fifth Corps
was under the command of Major General Fite John Porter. The Sixth Corps was under the
command of Major General William B. Franklin. The Ninth Corps was under the command of
Major General Ambrose Burnside. There was also a Calvary Division which was led by Brigadier
General Alfred Pleasonton. The Army of Northern Virginia was under the supreme command of
General Robert E. Lee. This army was made up of a left wing, a right wing, a cavalry division, and
an artillery division. The left wing was led by Major Thomas J. Stonewall Jackson, who
famously died of being shot by one of his own men during the battle of Chancellorsville. The
Right Wing was led by Major General James Longstreet. The Cavalry Division was led by Major
General J.E.B. Stewart, J.E.B. stood for James Ewell Brown. The Artillery Division was led by
Brigadier General William N. Pendleton.
This battle may not be the most famous battle in the Civil War or the most talked about battle, but
every time someone mentions the Civil War the first thing that comes to my mind is the Army of
the Potomac crossing Antietam Creek,

Hunger Is An Ugly Side Effect Of Poverty Essay
Introduction Hunger is a current social issue that plays a role in many American families who
are living in poverty. Although poverty is a major issue in its own category, hunger is an ugly
side effect of poverty. Living in poverty has long term negative impacts on the overall well being
of children. Morales, Sheaford, and Scott (2007) stated, hunger has an immediate impact on poor
people because it represents a threat to one s very survival (p. 368). Children living in povertyare
susceptible to enduring a level of hunger known as foodinsecurity.
Food insecurity was defined as the limited or uncertain availability of foods that are nutritionally
adequate and safe, or limited or uncertain ability to obtain acceptable foods by socially acceptable
means (Siefert, K. (2008). White, Hispanic, Black, and Asian families in the United States are all
faced with hunger. Thus, this may lead to many problems such as: poor nutrition, anxiety,
developmental and psychosocial issues, depression, and chronic diseases. In effort to reducing
hunger in America, federal food programs were constructed. The Food and Nutrition Service of the
USDA administers 15 domestic food and nutrition assistance programs (WHY, 2008).
Children that are faced with food insecurities may have trouble cognitively and physically in
school. To help in end hunger in schools, programs like The National Lunch Program and The
School Breakfast Program was developed. There are a number of immediate, as

Short Analysis for The Raven and “What Troubled Poe’s...
The Raven
I feel the title suggests that the poem might entail a story about a raven. Ravens are often
associated with death, due to their dark, eerie features, as well as with trickery, thus the title
clues that the story will most likely be shadier. The speaker of the poem is a man who is
troubled by the memories of his lost love, Lenore, and of his impending death. And my soul from
out that shadow that lies floating on the floor shall be lifted nevermore! (106, 107) indicates the
speaker knows he has the possibility of dying soon. The line, Quaff, oh quaff this kind repenthe
and forget this lost Lenore! (81), shows that the speaker is having great difficulty letting go of
Lenore and may be even guilty over her death as he is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He carries on asking if the dark forces will clasp a rare and radiant maiden whom the angels name
Lenore , but the Raven replies, as always, Nevermore meaning he will be separate from his love
in the afterlife. The understanding developed in the poem is not particularly important, in my
opinion, as it is not necessarily experienced in the same sadness, as the speaker of the poem
understands. Nonetheless, the overall thought of the poem is very deep. The author pulls an idea
that people wouldn t generally consider and uses many layers of thought to create intricate
meaning and profundity. Being that my own father passed away a few years ago, I understand
how elements of the physical world can provoke unwanted thoughts. The poem encourages its
reader to see the world from his point of view. He deeply explains how thoughts can be prompted
because of something in your atmosphere it forces readers to think about their own circumstances
and reflect on their surroundings. The Raven is a complex piece of literature that leaves its readers
with a new sense of reality.
What Troubled Poe s Raven
The title of this poem, What Troubled Poe s Raven , hints on its meaning due to what appears to
be mild sarcasm over the poem, The Raven , written by Edgar Allan Poe. In The Raven , the Raven
is a creature of death that tormented the soul of the speaker, yet the title of this poem calls the
creature Poe s Raven even though Poe s character hated the Raven. Knowing that, you

Harrison Bergeron Response Essay
Vonnegut Response In the story, Harrison Bergeron , written by Kurt Vonnegut, we read about a
society that is equal. Harrison Bergeron is a futuristic story that shows the ill effects of an attempt
by the government to make everyone equal or fair. The only way to accomplish this was to penalize
or handicap the talented, so the untalented could be equal to them. In the opening paragraph,
Vonnegut sets the story in the future by mentioning the year is 2081. He also provides an allusion
to the constitution by mentioning the 211th, 212th, and 213th amendments. This illustrates how
much the country has changed considering that there were only 22 constitutional amendments at
the time the story was written. Vonnegut makes it very easy to see... Show more content on

By making everyone equal, the government just penalized everyone who wasn t the worst at
everything. This meant there was no person who excelled in anything. Everyone had the same
abilities which were very limited. Even though they all were equal after the handicaps, the best
still stuck out as they had handicaps that were visible. Those who didn t have to be handicapped
were likely jealous of those who had many so it still didn t fix the equality problem. This is
similar to some government activities today such as the, No child left behind act. This act
penalizes those who are good in school by limiting their opportunities, which allows the
struggling students a better chance to pass. All this does is hinder the talented. It doesn t help
society or increase the quality of life. It is similar to the socialist governments that believe
everyone should make the same money. The socialists believe those who worked hard and
prosper should have to give up what they have so the poor who did nothing to earn the money can
be equal. This over time causes the productive people to be less productive because they have no
incentive anymore. This is why the poor or lazy people, are always pushing for equality. If they can
be equal monetarily wise without doing anything to get there, why wouldn t they support

Feeding The Troops Judith Byfield Analysis
In the article Feeding the Troops: Abeokuta (Nigeria) and World War II, by Judith A. Byfield,
Byfield describes the struggle for rice that took place during World War II. She utilizes a

The military played a major role in this, as they caused rice prices to increase drastically with
their presence. There was also a black market which caused three thousand tons of rice to
disappear from Abeokuta (Byfield 82). Because of the rice in the black markets, the price again
dropped and farmers and traders had a difficult time making a living. The main, local purchaser
of rice was Mr. Shodipo (Byfield 82). Byfield expands on this by stating that there was a rumor
which suggested that Mr. Shodipo was aligned with the Alake, also known as the king of the
region. Many farmers refused to sell to other authorities because they were required to sell to Mr.
Shodipo. Because of the monopoly being put on the farmers, the Alake was accused of using his
political power for personal profit (Byfield 83). Even though there was no evidence to prove that
the accusation was true, the Alake was still given the responsibility of ensuring that the rice quota
was reached. This placed pressure on the Alake, and even though he did not reach the quota, he
greatly increased the amount of rice produced (Byfield

Black And White Photography. By Pranjal Bhatia. Introduction.
Black and White Photography
By Pranjal Bhatia
Introduction
Photography is a scientific art of creating images by capturing light on a light sensitive material.
Mist and fog converts the world into a natural monochrome with a soft stillness to it. Our eyes
might not see in black and white but the human brain knows to appreciate the art that a
monochrome picture is. Black and white cameras were existed since the 1930s and for an
average user it might just seem like an old technology that has been replaced with the new cool
go pros and mirror less cameras but for photographers and art lovers it s still an asset. Black and
white does not necessarily mean removal of color, it requires its own way of seeing. Film
photography allows one to have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Light and shadow is more obvious in absence of color. At the same time it does not take away
from the composition of a picture. A strong composition still tends to be a strong composition
minus the color. Since now we no longer have color to interest the viewer, one is able to appreciate
the curve, the shapes and the texture, which otherwise may go unnoticed.
Monochrome film photography allows one to learn and express emotions in their art differently.
Great examples of this are the movie from 40s. They depicted all the emotions death, love, and
happiness with shades. Color usually makes this process very easy. Another use of monochrome
is for shooting nudes. Eliminating color removes the smutty component from the picture and
allows one to appreciate the naked body as piece of art. One of the biggest reasons for the
popularity of black and white photography is its timeless nature. Black and white is still
considered a piece from photographic past as it adds a timeless quality to the picture.
Film Photography
Digital is great for color and can be pretty good for black and white also but in order to add the
three dimensional sharpness. Most of the black and white cameras sold today are second hand
from the 90s. Digital cameras have color sensor dots to sense the color while producing a picture.
Today film photography is of two broad types; these include

Rosewood the Movie
The movie Rosewood had a lot of impact on black and white people throughout the century.
Rosewood stems from a small town located in central Florida. It co existed with 120 people,
mostly blacks who owned and farmed the surrounding land. On New Year s Day of that year,
Fanny Taylor, a white woman in the nearby predominantly white town of Sumner, ran out of her
house screaming, bruised and battered, claiming that a black man had assaulted her. In fact, the
beating had been at the hands of her white lover. Fanny had lied so that her husband would not find
out about her adultery. Fanny claimed that an escaped black convict from a local chain gang had
done this. This led to tension and resentment to all the local townspeople of Sumner. The... Show

The State of Florida was widely known as one of the biggest controversies Florida had to endure.
Why did it take so long for them to act upon this brutal state of affairs? The problem with this
dilemma is that racism is shown even in the Supreme Court. If we didn t live in a society where
there was racism the world would be a much better place. Racism has been a problem throughout
the ages of time in this world. It emerged out of the rise in the slave trade in the eighteenth century.

Why Secondary Schools Should Not Have Recess
Secondary schools should not have recess. There are many reasons why secondary schools
should not have recess. Teachers don t have enough time to teach their kids if there is recess.
Kids also need more time to learn things. If there is recess then they don t have enough time to
learn those things that they need to know. The reason that recess should not be banned because
the teachers don t have enough time to teach their class every thing that they need to teach. In the
text it says, He says other teachers tell him the recesses make it harder to keep regular lessons on
schedule. The quote tells us why secondary schools shouldn t have recess by telling us how much
harder it is for teachers to keep a regular schedule.

The Pros And Cons Of Customs Union
The reason I chose Customs Union as my topic is to learn more about how members or potential
members of a union establish an agreement that benefit all parties. I find it interesting that
members of a union are able to influence one another s economic growth, competition and how
they can complement one another as well. Having a common trade policy among a group of
members and removing all barriers of trade can play a significant role in the success of a
business. It saves a lot money, and could be a competitive advantage over competitors. Countries
of a union joining can also impact its position in a global market, as well as help the country
economically. The ability for a group of countries to come together and help each other is
fascinating, and is why I chose to explore this topic more.
EXPLANATION OF KEY TERM
The third stage of Economic Integration is Customs Union. According to the Encyclopaedia of
Britannica, Customs Union is a trade agreement by which a group of countries charges a common
set of tariffs to the rest of the world while granting free trade among themselves (Encyclopedia
Britannica, 2010). Customs Union is free trade zone with common external tariffs; which helps
increase economic efficiency and allows for signatories to establish political and cultural ties.
Tariff barriers make it difficult for some countries to sell products in a foreign country because of
the additional taxes on imported goods, which is a price advantage to members of a

What Is The Link Between Pornography And Sexual Exploitation
I have unwavering belief the presence of pornography and thus it s relation to the sexual
exploitation of human beings by far is one of the main sources of sex trafficking. Pornography alone
and thus it s depraved nature is utterly demeaning, it clearly exhibits heinous violence against
Women, that goes without saying. Personally, I have come to know the direct link between
pornographyand sexual exploitation that is indeed relevant to the issue by the reason of the 47
year old predator which inflicted sexual exploitation upon me followed by the continued
infringements of my human rights by way of vengefully driven stalking was as well as currently is
a self admitted porn watcher. The pornography this predator partakes in was exactly the type...

Again the same themes are brought to light on the truth of pornography and it s relation to sex
trafficking. One of the cornerstones of the entrapment into sex trafficking is a survivor, having
a history of domestic violence and or sexual violence acted upon them or witnessed so prior to
their own exploitation. It has been statistically proven many domestic abuse survivors and
sexual abuse survivors have felt the impact of pornography upon their lives in the form of the
abuser having either forced the survivors to watch porn and or engage in the degrading acts of
pornography in some fashion. Furthermore, once one has been ensnared by a trafficker or pimp
it is not unheard of for these predators to force the same upon their prey. Sometimes they will do
this to further season and thus a part of the process of breaking in their prey to the acts the
survivor will be forced, coerced, and or manipulated into engaging with clients in the life of
sexual exploitation. Now the street corners are indeed becoming an occurrence of the past with
current technology online pornography and what is known as webcam (or online sex hence
quintessentially what is pornography) is taking over the exploitation industry. It is under the
radar, it is difficult to detect, there are few laws, if any, laws which protect survivors trapped in
the seedy world of online pornography. So many of those snared by sexual exploitation be it
online, on a street corner, in a strip club, in a brothel, or even in a place of residence, whether they
are children or Women wherever they might be whoever they may be pornography is indeed the
supporter and facilitator of these

The Miami Dolphins Football Team
The Miami Dolphins, a professional football team located in Miami, Florida, has been a part of
the National Football League (NFL) since 1966. The organization is most notably known for the
1972 Miami Dolphins football team, led by Don Shula, who went undefeated a won the Super
Bowl. This team was the first and, so far, only team to have a perfect season capped off with
winning the championship game. From 1966 to 1970 the Miami Dolphinswere perceived like they
are today as a losing franchise that could not win. That was until Don Shula, helped make the
Dolphins one of the best franchises in the national football leagueduring his reign as head coach.
The time period from 1970 to 1993 were the golden years of the organization s history; during
this time the Miami Dolphins won 13 AFC East Titles, 5 AFC Championships, 2 Super Bowls
and in 1973 set the league record 74,961 season ticket sales. During this time period the team had
star players Larry Csonka, Dan Marino, Bob Griese, and several others that helped to build and
sustain the Dolphins legacy. Since 1993 the Miami Dolphins have been known for holding three
fantastic super bowls in 1994, 2006, and 2009, all of which were great games that the Dolphins
were not involved in. While in recent years the Miami Dolphins have gone back to the original
roots of field losing teams, the organization has developed a marketing strategy to improve the

consider each other their enemies and do whatever it takes to be better than one another. When
the enemies need help for same problem, they unite themselves to solve the problem. The short
story The Interlopers by Saki is about unification and reveals how enemies become allies in
harsh situations. Ulrich von Gradwitz and Georg Znaeym were enemies because Ulrich was the
owner of the forest land, and Georg was trying to steal Ulrich s forest land. They met in the
middle of the forest and tried to kill each other. However, they were trapped by the huge tree that
fell from a fiery storm. Waiting for their men to rescue them, Ulrich offered Georg a wine. Ulrich
von Gradwitz told Georg Znaeym that if Ulrich s men come faster than Georg s men then Ulrich
will tell the men to rescue Georgefirst, and that they have better things to do than getting the
better of a boundary dispute (Saki 86). The quote shows that Ulrich wanted to be friends with
Georg rather than fighting over who gets the forest land. Ulrich asked George to be his friend, and
George accepted his request. Waiting for their men to come and help them, both wished that their
private men would come first so they can be the first to show honorable attention to the other (Saki

Reaction Between Hydrochloric Acid And Sodium Tiosulfate
Reaction Order and Rate Laws
Glenna Hoefs
December 26, 2017 Abstract
This report discusses a laboratory procedure to study the effect of reactant concentration on the rate
of the reaction between hydrochloric acid and sodium thiosulfate, with the aim of determining the
order of each reactant and the rate law for the reaction.
For this experiment, the reactants were added to a well plate in varying concentrations. The
reaction was timed by using a stopwatch and observing the production of a precipitate. The data
collected during this procedure was then analyzed to determine the reaction order for each reactant
as well at the rate law for the reaction.
The hydrochloric acid was determined to have a reaction order of 0, while the sodium thiosulfate
was determined to have a reaction order of 1. The reaction between hydrochloric acid and sodium
thiosulfate was determined to be first order with respect to N2S2O3. The k constant for this
reaction was calculated to be 0.1 1/s.
We conclude that the concentration of hydrochloric acid does not have an effect on the rate of the
reaction. The concentration of sodium thiosulfate, however, is directly proportional to the rate of
the reaction.

Emily Dickinson s A Certain Slant of Light Analysis Essay
1
Emily Dickinson s There s a certain Slant of light
In her poem, There s a certain Slant of light, Emily Dickinson uses metaphors and imagery to
convey the feeling of solemnity and despair at winter s twilight. The slanted light that she sees,
is a metaphor for her battle with depression. Anyone who is familiar with Dickinson s
background will have a better understanding of what she is trying to say in this poem. Dickinson
was known as a recluse and spent most of her life isolated from the outside world. The few people
that she did come in contact with over the years are said to have had a major impact on her poetry.
Although, her main muse of her work seems to be despair and internal conflict. ... Show more

If we re feeling down, like the speaker of this poem, we see the world as how we feel inside;
things look unpleasant, and grey and dismal. We re unable to see a ray of hope that is coming
through the window in the form of sunshine. In the fourth stanza, when death, or it as the
speaker calls it, comes everything listens. When someone dies, those still on this earth
sometimes experience stillness in nature, as if the world is on hold and listening to us. In
Dickinson s poem the stillness comes from the slant of light, and the landscape and shadows
listen and figuratively hold their breath. The landscape and shadows are personified in this
stanza. The capitalization of Landscape and Shadows gives the impression that the speaker is
referring to someone she knows. The mood here changes quite a bit compared to the first three
stanzas of this poem. You get a sense of anticipation instead of despair, and the oppression that
the speaker has felt has lifted and now she s feeling light and maybe some what alluring. In the
final two lines of the poem, the poet uses sort of a morbid imagery. When it goes, tis like the
Distance, On the look of Death. (15 16) Dead people have a distant look to them since the life in
their being is gone somewhere else. We also see the exit of winter light at the end of the day in the
same distant way we might see some deaths. Death is

Smartphones Dependence
The Dependence of People on Smartphones.
The excessive use of smartphones has not only changed the way we see technology but also the
way we live our lives. In the year 2000, the first touch screen phone was introduced and people
who loved technology were amazed by this cellphone technology that did not required a physical
keypad to work or access the cellphone main menu, although not that many special features were
added to this cellphone besides the digital touch screen tech lovers fell in love with this device
almost instantly because of the futuristic idea of replacing buttons with a digital touchscreen. Even

Another major and maybe one of the most influential impacts of the smartphones in our society
nowadays is a system called face time or video calling, it is supposed to keep friends not just in
touch but face to face using a smartphone device to see each other live. Personally, I believe face
time isn t really that bad when it comes to staying in touch with friends who live far away but I
have also noticed some friends who live maybe 1 mile or 2 away from each other using face time
instead to going to each other s houses and have a conversation and enjoy friendship like in good
old times now with this technology that it supposed to be facilitating our lives seems to be
depriving us from life itself.
In Conclusion, I would first like to state that the reason I feel this way about smartphones is
because I used to depend on the use of my smartphone more than the use of any other book, the
opinion of any other person, or sometimes common sense itself. I had become addicted to the use
of my smartphone and didn t know I was excessively using my device to accomplish tasks that I
would do before without the need of this device,

Hawai I Research Paper
I have a full Japanese first name, and I go by a shortened, Americanized version. My first name
means nothing in Japanese, and it s old fashioned, like Barbara or Margaret or Greta. Fashionable
for a decade or so, and now painfully outdated. My middle name is Hawai ian and is a suffix
attached to the names of female royalty, and it means heaven or sky.
I am 100% full blooded Japanese. Allegedly my father s side of the family is descended from
samurai and land owning barons, while my mother s side has a hazier history. I like to call myself
half royalty half peasant, because it sounds romantic but not because there s any basis in truth. I
was born in Honolulu, Hawai i in January 1992, which makes me currently 20 years old. We lived

things. Nope, full Japanese here.
I still speak Japanese. In addition to Japanese, I speak Spanish with some fluency and French on a
very basic conversational level. I currently study Italian. I hope to conquer German next. My voice
in each of these languages is different. In Japanese, I am demure. In English, rough and irreverent.
In Spanish and French I am sure I sound childish, and I don t think I sound like anything other than
a complete beginner in Italian. I adopt new languages like personas.
I have tattoos, but I avoid talking about them too much because I m afraid of diminishing their

The Importance Of Firing Firearms
The Second Amendment gives American citizens the right to keep and bear arms. Many people
own firearms, whether it is a handgun, rifle, or shotgun, but not everyone knows how they
function. The process is a bit more complex than to pull a trigger, some magic happens, and the
projectile accelerates out of the barrel of the firearm. Every person who owns a firearm should be
educated on the physics of how a firearm functions. Once you are confident with your shot on a
target, pull the trigger. The specific mechanics from the trigger to the hammer or firing pin are
different because it depends on the type of firearm and the company the manufactures it. However,
pulling the trigger will produce the same end result for all firearms. The trigger will release the
hammer or firing pin, which will... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The cartridge is the ammunition that is placed into the chamber of the firearm. Each firearm is
designed to fire a certain caliber cartridge. Each caliber ensures a tight fit in the chamber of its
assigned firearm, which will not allow any gases to escape once fired. Firing the wrong caliber
cartridge could result in a gun jam, or you could destroy the firearm. Bullet cartridges are a
combination of a projectile (bullet), a propellant (gunpowder), and a primer (explosive cap), all
contained in a metal casing. The spark ignites the gunpowder. Most people believe that it is the
explosion that propels the projectile; however, this theory is false. When the powder ignites, it
releases gases that expand and push on the projectile. Sir Isaac Newton s third law of motion,
which implies that for every action, there is an equal but opposite reaction. As the expanding
gases exert force on the projectile, it is forced into the barrel of the firearm. The recoil of the
firearm is the equal but opposite force created by the gases forcing the projectile to accelerate out

Problems Of The And Boundary Work
Problems of Demarcation and Boundary Work
One of the fundamental areas of study concerning professionals, including lawyers and scientists,
is that of professional boundaries (Lamont Molnar). Where are the bounds of the profession? Who
is included and who is excluded from the profession? One of the driving questions for scholars of
science has been the demarcation problem, that is determining what is and is not included in
science (Gieryn 1983). Historically, the social studies of science has divided between internal and
external approaches, which studied the construction of science from inside and outside the
professional boundaries of science respectively (Kuhn 1977). Thus externalism internalism debates
in the history and sociology of science formed the central dividing line of the field until late last
century (Shapin 1992). However, a contemporary consensus has emerged in science studies that
the demarcation problem is essentially irrelevant to the study of science. The demarcation
problem has been called a pseudo problem by those who argue that philosophically there is no
reason to believe that it is possible to define necessary and sufficient conditions to separate the
scientific from the non scientific. (Laudin 1983) Gieryn proposed that instead of considering
demarcation as a conceptual problem, the bounds of science should be reinterpreted as a practical
problem faced by scientists who have a professional need to distinguish their work from other

The Great Wall of China
The reason why China suffers bitterly from endless wars is because of the existence of feudal
lords and kings. ~Qin Shi Huang. This quote was said by Qin Shi Huang, constructor of the Great
Wall of China. The Great Wall of China is the longest structure ever built. The Wall starts in the
northern part of China, then along the Pacific Coast, and ends in the Gobi Desert. The Great Wall of
China runs for about 5,500 miles. The Great Wall of China was changed over the years in the Qin
Dynasty, Han Dynasty, and Ming Dynasty. The Great Wall of China began in the Qin Dynasty. The
northern nomadic tribes began to envy riches of southern neighbors and raided them. The Chinese

Product Development and Module Strategy
The product development and module strategy is the use of modules, or platforms, to communize
the unique brands in VW s portfolio. This approach is implemented within the production phase
where similar parts, technology and systems designs, equipment and knowledge are used in various
VW brands to attain cost savings in procurement, research and development, worker training. This
platform strategy was implemented primarily in Europe where production costs were soaring and
profits decreasing. It eliminated various corporate redundancies that had caused the sagging profits.
By borrowing design ideas from VW s other brands, they were able to utilize common suppliers and
eliminate unique sub structures that added considerable cost in money, time or technology. This
strategy allowed a strong technology/knowledge transfer between plants.
Multi brand Strategy
The multi brand strategy was produced from the desire to have a presence in multiple automotive
markets, and therefore capture a full range of the customer spectrum. In addition, it is a solution
for one of the negative consequences of the module strategy; it was found that by commonizing
(www.forbes.com) some of the lower VW brands (Seat and Skoda) that the VW brands were no
longer differentiated. Acquisition of Bentley and Bugatti in 1997 was a response to this issue, as
well as recent financial growth.

Age Discrimination And The Work World Today With Age...
Are businesses prepared for what is amounting in the work world today with age diversification?
All humans in general are healthier thus living longer which means they are working longer
periods in the business world. You are starting to hear more and more cases about age
discrimination and big businesses are aware of this occurrence. Age discriminationcan be the most
harmful act to happen to a business.
The Age Discrimination Act was passed in 1967; it states all workers who are 40 and older shall not
be discriminated in recruitment, hiring, firing, salary, retirement and other practices. (SEC. 623.
[Section 4]) Investigating charges and trying to work out solutions is done through the Equal
Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC). (SEC. 633a. [Section 15]) Among all the various
discrimination cases, age discrimination can be the most potentially damaging to a corporation.
Congress has even noticed that age limits are being placed on certain jobs. This is ridiculous! If
a person who is older is just as productive as they were why fire them. You can bring in a younger
person to learn from the older person and save a lot of time and money because when you bring
in a young person you need train them for their job. But if you use your resources and use the
older worker you are killing two birds with one stone. I am glad congress knows about this trend
and I hope that one day discrimination will not be in existence.

Raskolnikov begins to alienate himself from his ex colleague, Razumikhin, although at points it is
Razumikhin who supports Raskolnikov the most. It forces Razumikhin to replace Raskolnikov in
situations that should have been left to his authority. In a situation where Raskolnikov should have
reassured Dounia and Pulcheria of their safety he waved his hand weakly to Razumikhin to cut
short the flow of warm and incoherent consolations he was addressing to his mother and sister

and a growing poverty situation, his stubbornness to contain his pride and dignity eventually builds
up to the brutal murder of Alyona.
Razumikhin is in a similar financial situation as Raskolnikov. Razumikhin foils Raskolnikov in his
response to a desperate situation such as struggling poverty. He faced his struggles with a trial and
error personality. His view stood that you never reach any truth without making fourteen mistakes
and very likely a hundred and fourteen (Part 3. 1). It was in these positive outlooks that make
Raskolnikov realize how intense his isolation was becoming.

The Cherokee Indians

Have you ever heard of the Cherokee Indians? Sure you have! Just as a reminder, they are the
biggest tribe, and most known of out of all the Indian tribes there has ever been in the southeast.
They are very important to American History and helped shaped us to be the Americans we are

everything you need to know about the Cherokee Indians and continue to relate to the thesis.
What was their shelter like?
To start off, most people figure that the Cherokee Indians lived in tee pees, but they did not. They
lived in homes built out of mud and other materials around. By the 1700s they lived in cozy log
cabins that they had built themselves. Although most of them lived in cabins, a tiny population
lived in clapboard houses. Other than the help from Sweden, the log cabins you and me see in the
Untied States of America in our daily life s originated from the Cherokee Indians! Isn t that cool?!
Where were they located?
The Cherokee Indians were mainly know for living in the southeastern part of the United States of
America. But they had moved around several different areas before they discovered their so
thought forever home. They lived there until they were forced to leave to Oklahoma during the

Origin Of Baseball Essay
The Origin Of Baseball With upwards of ten million people participating in the sport of baseball
in the United States alone, it is apparent that baseball is one of the world s most popular sports.
Throughout the years, the sport of baseball has evolved from a humble game played on empty
sandlots to America s national pastime. The game has come a long way, but how did this game
come to be? Everything has its humble beginnings, and baseballis no different. Games that resemble
baseball have been around for centuries, and they have led to the development of baseball itself.
The game of baseball originated from a game called rounders. Rounders consisted of two teams,
a striking team and a fielding team. The striking team s goal was to hit the ball in order to score
rounders, or runs, in modern baseball. The rules were similar to the rules of baseball today.
There were two teams consisting of nine players and four bases. One difference between
rounders and baseball is that there is no foul territory in rounders. Any hit ball is in play and the
player may run. In baseball, the ball must be hit in between the foul lines painted on the third
and first base lines (Olmos). Prior to the year 1845 rounders and cricket were the only official
games related to baseball that existed, until an individual named Alexander Cartwright wrote the
first official rules of baseball. He wrote these rules for a baseball club named the Knickerbockers (

The language of an effective song inspires deeper thinking, puts a thought in a new perspective,
helps cement prior knowledge, opens the eyes of the audience. These lyrics aid in that ah ha
moment when people see the world in a new light, or they may serve as reassurance, helping the
listener feel understood and less alone. Lyrics can, and should be powerful.
The lyrics from Vessel exemplify this power. Every song on the album has at least a few
sentences that make listeners stop in their tracks. In some songs, like Migraine or Car Radio,
every line does that. Car Radio expands on the idea that Sometimes quiet is violent. It explores
the dark places human minds may go if given the opportunity. Migraine speaks on the complexity
of life, especially elaborating on the loneliness that accompanies not feeling understood and how
that loneliness causes depression while encouraging listeners to hope. Knowing there are others
out there listening to this song, thinking the same thoughts, even if they are strangers, alleviates
that lonely feeling. Migraine also urges listeners to keep fighting, to never give up on their life
goals or on life itself. The only miss on this criteria from the album comes from, ironically, their
most popular song, House of Gold. The song is a simple ballad to the writer s mother promising to
take care of her: sweet, but not exactly thought provoking. Despite this, Vessel definitely exceeds the

Starbucks On Clemson University Campus
On Monday, October 17 from one p.m. until two p.m. I observed people s behavior in Starbucks
on Clemson University campus. The majority of the population consisted of students most likely
ranging from eighteen years old to twenty four years old. This time of day seemed to be
particularly busy, and from where I was sitting I observed human behavioras they interacted within
the space. The room itself had an ordering area, an area to gather while waiting for your drink,
and then multiple seating arrangements, such as booths, high tables, large tables, and small
tables. Even with all the furniture the space had little obstructions, making it easy to oversee
activity. People s interaction with others depended greatly on whether or not they were with
other people. If someone was alone they did not sit at a table that had four or more chairs,
instead they would opt for a table that was made for two people. Pairs of people meeting each
other at the location hugged, but when saying goodbye, they simply walked away, not stopping to
give a farewell. Groups tended to consist of younger students, while individuals were more likely
to be older students. While waiting to order their drink groups would talk loudly, but upon sitting
each individual would pull out something to occupy them and all talking ceased. The talking
amongst others in line gained the attention of people sitting down, especially those that were sitting

From reading about it in our book, researching online, and grabbing a personal text, I was highly
intrigued with the components that make up the working poor, it s actual definition, and so much
more. Before getting into the statistics, a simple definition of the working poor is that it is a
group of people who spend about twenty seven weeks or more in a year either working or looking

is understandable as well as difficult to take in because there are a lot of people that face this, and

From the family spending patterns in 1955, it is clear that it is no longer valid today. Tax time
in poor neighborhoods is not April; it s January. The checks that come from Washington include
not only a refund of taxes withheld, but also an additional payment, the Earned Income Tax
Credit; that is designed to subsidize low wage working families (Shipler, 2004). It is common
sense that you would not receive this credit unless you file, but some do not file and avoid the
IRS; it has been proved that you come up ahead when you do file because you keep everything
you ve earned plus you receive a credit. As much as it is talked about, many workers prefer to
earn under the table and keep their finances unrecorded due to shame, sorrow, not educated on the

research, poor people and investment bankers seem to have one thing in common: they both spend
considerable amounts of energy thinking about money. (Shipler, 2004). With that, they have to
juggle, predict, and plan, and every decision involves a lengthy step by step process. From
research and just even walking down the streets of Chicago for example, it seems to be that there is
the stigma that the poor are supposed to sacrifice, suffer, and certainly

Ibn Khaldun s 4 Step Model
Ibn Khaldun s 4 Step Model
Asabiyyah means a unification of people through a common system of beliefs, culture, language,
history, and traditions forming a community. Ibn Khaldun a historian/sociologist, describes this
through many of his aspects of writings of the 14th century, describing the bond of cohesion among
humans in a group forming community (Wikipedia: Muuaddimah). Asabiyyah can be from small
societies such as nomadic people in tribes, to much larger societies such as empires and states
containing sedentary people.
The Nomads were people of a tribe who would migrate around many different places in search of
new viable resources, wealth, and technology when their supply of food and land would be
exploited. The nomads were the hunter gatherers of the 7th 13th centuries and also even having
their own livestock in most cases. They herded sheep, cattle, goats, horses, and many other
animals. Since they move from place to place so much they do not partake in agriculture so
much, or even so on a long term basis. The nomads would migrate for reasons such as to raid
settled communities or avoid approaching enemy conflicts. It being their natural way of life,
living off of the land and working for their own food and shelter, they were seen as savages in most
eyes. The Nomadic people were made up of warriors and tribal elders of a low culture society. The
tribal elders being the chairmen of the tribe/chiefs who were the key holders, sources, and
transmitters of

Archetypes In Fahrenheit 451
The use of everyday objects and descriptions can really connect to something more deep. In the
captivating novel Fahrenheit 451, Ray Bradbury uses many archetypes to build up the story. The
protagonist, Guy Montag is in a journey to find answers using the paperback books that the overall
society totally rejects. In this society it is not that hard to forget about others when you have three
walls covered with TV s. The majority of the society decided to use materialistic objects such as the
T.V to entertain themselves. Guy Montagis a fireman who burns books in a society. However, he
ends up using the knowledge found in these books to be very useful. The lack of concern the
society has for others leads to the drastic collapse in the society.... Show more content on

Where the darkness is represented in the place where black is stated and the lightness is
represented by the things that are white. In this novel, shades of black can be seen in objects or
emotions that are associated with the night, shadows, burned, and evil. On page 3 it states, It
was a pleasure to see things eaten, to see things blackened and changed (Bradbury). There was
also a black cobra mentioned in the beginning of the book which was a suction snake that
pumped Mildred s stomach . It could have been any colored cobra but the significance of it
being black kind of gives us that thought of something dangerous. When describing Faber it
wrote There was white in the flesh of his mouth and his cheeks and his hair was white and his
eyes had faded, with white in the vague blueness... (Bradbury 77). Faber being described as
looking so innocent and white, we came to a conclusion that Montag uses Faber in a way to lead

Narrative Of A Mother Daughter
A tired mother reclines before a long mirror, beginning to prepare her ten year old daughter for
bed. As she works out the last few tangles from her hair, the woman s gaze turns to her reflection
the dulling of her once youthful body palpable in the company of her youthful daughter. Author
Sharon Olds uses the narrative of a mother daughter relationship to address issues of aging, death
and replacement, juxtaposing the youth of a ten year old with the maturity of the thirty five year
old. 35/10 takes readers on one womans journey of sorrow as she copes with the loss of her youth,
but deeper than that, her confrontation with grief as she realizes her daughter will one day
replace her. The woman feels as though she is beginning her life s decline just as her daughter
begins her ascent into womanhood, inquiring, ...Why is it / just as we begin to go / they begin to
arrive... (lines 4 6). Olds takes on the voice of this despondent woman in her poem 35/10, using
rich, honest language and metaphoric comparisonsto communicate observations about the cycle of
life and the pattern of replacement. In the main body of her poem, Olds lists a sequence of three
key metaphoric comparisons between the woman and her daughter s changing bodies. Both
characters are experiencing small previews of their futures through developmental transformations,
the younger a preview of womanhood and the older a preview of aging and ultimately future
replacement. The comparison is made in the same

Exceptional Skin Agers
Did you ever wonder why some people seem to never age? Researchers at Harvard Medical
School paired with DNA analysis company 23andMe studied genetic data from 60,000 women
over from a variety of ages and ethnic groups to finally figure out what the deal with exceptional
skin agers is. BEAUTY MYSTERY SOLVED By isolated people they deemed to look younger than
they actually were without undergoing cosmetic surgery, they found that genes have a lot to do
with looking young. Could this solve the mystery confronting thousands beauty conscious people
across the globe? Ageless people seem to express differently the approximately 20,000 genes, which
focus on cell energy, skin formation, and antioxidant production differently. Interestingly, that
expression differs by race with women of African descent having skin that aged 10 years slower than

Exceptional skin agers appear to have unique skin fingerprint pattern in common. Led by Dr.
Alexa Kimball, Professor of Dermatology, Harvard Medical School/Massachusetts General
Hospital, the research also found specific gene expression changes that influence the skin aging
process during each decade of a women s life and that can be shaped by environmental factors,
lifestyle choices and even skincare habits. NATURE OR NURTURE? According to the study, what
s exciting about these findings is that the genes that make up the unique skin fingerprint of
exceptional skin agers may hold the key to successful ageing. Decrypting which pathways genes
affect and unveil the secret behind nature or nurture can enable researchers to help more women
achieve skin that looks like the exception, not the rule, at any stage of life, said Dr. Rosemarie

The Anzio Breakout Essay
January 22, 1944 the sun is shining, and there is quite wind blowing across the beach of Anzio.
In the next two days this beach will be covered in upwards of 30,000 allied troops and will see
some of the bloodiest fighting of the war in the next four months. Anzio was originally supposed to
be a distraction that Sir Alexander could use to breach the Gustav line. However, after a failure to
immediately push towards Rome the allieswould be trapped in trench warfare and would be forced
to breakout of Anzio. This was, simply enough, called the Anzio Breakout. The escape from Anzio
was comprised of the plan and its flaw, the invasion, and the Breakout. The allied commander Sir
Alexander felt that he would be unable to take Rome unless a... Show more content on

In the next week the Allies moved in seven miles fighting off the scattered but increasing
Germans. As the moved along the Anzio Albano Road toward Campoleone, they captured the
town of Aprilia, which created a massive dent in enemy lines, but were unbale to breakout of the
beachhead. Although they met some heavy resistance on the way to Cisterna and Littoria, that
eventually halted their advance, they managed to increase their numbers, and built anti air guns
impairing the German Luftwaffe. Despite their progress because they did not immediately drive
towards Rome the Germans were able to recover and retaliate. Most of the German counterstrikes
were random air raids on the snarl of trenches the allies had dug. The allies broken and weary
from the random barrage of artillery were more then ready to escape the trenches of Anzio and
head towards the capital Rome.
They got their chance on May 12, 1944. On this date the Fifth and Eighth corps retaliated with their
long anticipated offensive against the Gustav Line, finally allowing them to capture Cassino
successively breaking the Gustav Line. Playing to the advantage of the turbulent status in the
central mountains, and using an Allied artillery barrage, along with armor and infantry assaults
along the Anzio, the Cisterna front was opened. On May 23rd, The Allies were able to rupture the
German main line of resistance using air

Ordinary By Susan Griffin Summary
What we see on the outside is not always what is felt or endured on the inside. The real truth about
a person can be hidden, manipulated, sometimes even forgotten in the back of the person s mind.
This truth is masked, and it is not always easy to be unearthed. This is ordinary. There is not one
person on this planet that does not have a sort of mask obscuring a truthor secret that is unknown to
the people around them. People living before our generation, like the Himmlers, had secrets. People
living now have secrets. I have secrets. It is natural for people to want to know everything about
everything, but it s not humanly possible. Griffin herself tried to discover the causes of others life

Odds Against Tomorrow Character Analysis
As each day passes, the events that we encounter enters through each and everyone of our minds
and becomes an assimilation of experiences. Over a long period of time one s past experiences
come to affect how they see newer ones. As each and every experience fills our minds, it creates
an expectation or order in which our judgment causes us to assume or create reason for the future
to become a certain way. This process can be viewed as perspective, perspective influences your
actions, emotions, it can be a complete rulebook for the way a person becomes and acts. In the
book OddsAgainst Tomorrow, by Nathaniel Rich as we explore the world through the eyes of one
character, Mitchelle, we began to notice a possibly very eccentric perspective on life and chance.
Throughout the book we notice other characters and their views on the same events. This then
relays back to previous experiences or life events that these characters have undergone. Overall
through the reading we can notice a theme of multiple or different perspectives, that fact of which
perspectives are right or where these perspectives come from is determined by the reader. One can
simply conclude that because of the past experiences or events that an individual has encountered
throughout their life this then becomes a major deciding factor in their new perceptive. This
perspective can change, as the events that we experiencecome to change as well. For example an
overflow of optimism may be encountered after one

Special Education Disproportionality
The problem of disproportionate numbers of minority students in special education can be
attributed to a report by Lloyd Dunn in 1968 (as cited in Skiba et al., 2008) even though
discrimination was evident long before that in America. The phenomenon of disproportionality as it
relates to students from minority backgrounds being placed in special educationrefers to the
percentage of students receiving services being a higher rate than is expected or that differs
significantly from other races. Skiba et al. (2008) discuss the history of various aspects of the civil
rights movement as they pertain to the issue of disproportionality of students from minority
backgrounds in special education, the measurement tools used to determine the need for special
education, the current status of disproportionality, and what factors have contributed to the
discrepancies in numbers. Finally, recommendations are offered by the authors on how the
existence of disproportionality of students from a minority background can be rectified.
In response to various court cases relating to services for students with special needs, The
Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) was enacted to mandate to the states that data
regarding overrepresentation of race and ethnicity must be collected and monitored. If it is
determined that a disproportionate number of students from a minority background are receiving
special education services, a review of policies and procedures is required to

established in May 2016. We are centrally located to service all major east coast cities from
Boston to Charlotte. Market factors favor inauguration of a new airline to meet the demand for
additional, higher quality passenger service linking the East coast with the rapidly expanding

Army Respect
What is respect? Respect can be in various forms. It can be knowledge, self awareness, trust,
character, honesty, understanding, and a positive attitude. But respect also has to be earned. If
you can t respect yourself then you won t be able to respect others. To gain respect you have to
treat others the way you would want to be treated. Without respect you can t have team work and
care for other peoples well being.
It is respect which creates devotion to the team, and the important part is that that respect flows
both up and down the chain of command. A leader respects the skills, strengths, and sacrifices of
the people who work for him, and by giving that respect, in time and with effort, his troops come to
respect him as well. That ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, without loyalty, respect is not present. If you are a disloyal member of the team you
fail to contribute to the team in a manner that is respectable. The lack of loyalty is disrespectful
and in turn awards you none for yourself.
Respect is described as esteem for or a sense of the worth or excellence of a person, a personal
quality or ability, or something considered as a manifestation of a personal quality or ability. In the
United States Army it is inaccurate to say you are required to respect the man or woman behind the
rank. The greater rank does not imply a greater human being. However, It would be quite accurate
to say that in the mechanics of the relationship between a lower enlisted soldier and a Non
commissioned Officer regardless of the enlisted soldiers opinion of the person the lower enlisted
service member will respect the rank and treat the Non commissioned officer with the same respect
that is due to the rank worn. This hierarchical design is intended to maintain an order based on
qualification and experience.
It states in the Phantom Warrior Standard book that every soldier obtains upon arrival to Fort
Hood that, Courtesy among members of the Armed Forces is vital to maintain military discipline.
Respect to seniors will be extended at all times. I realize now

In this essay I will discuss the similarities and differences of two holiday adverts; one for Blackpool and the other for Ibiza. Firstly I will discuss the layout of the adverts. The Blackpool ad has a central picture of recognisable attractions such as the Blackpool tower and ferris wheel by the harbour which shimmers with light which brightens up the advert, similarly the Ibiza advert has a central eye catching picture of three young people dancing laughing and a sexy young female posing on her own on the beach whilst the sun is setting. Blackpool was generally advertising for the older generation which is a calmer appearance for relaxing, going sightseeing and having fun in a basic manner but on the other hand Ibiza advert appealed for the younger generation which settles for livelier and exciting appearance for their audience. The language which was used in Blackpool was plain English which give full details which the reader could understand clearly whereas Ibiza was written in slang for their slogan and also written in a different font style and plain English for the contact, location and general aspects of the holiday about getting there. Blackpool features their audience to read about more of their advert, but Ibiza settles for more pictures and their language of detail cannot be read clearly but also have a bright and groovy effect when you read their colourful advert. • 3. The Battle of Antietam Creek The Battle of Antietam Creek The Battle of Antietam Creek was a very bloody and important battle in the Civil war. The battle was fought by two different armies within the Union and the Confederacy, The Army of the Potomac (Union) and The Army of Northern Virginia (Confederate). Antietam Creek is located just to the east of the Potomac River in Maryland. The battle was fought on a hill just above the west bank of Antietam Creek. The Army of the Potomac, who was on the offensive, was pushing towards the river. The Army of Northern Virginia, who was on the defensive, was on the bank defending themselves from what is often referred to as a sea of blue. • 4. Hunger Is An Ugly Side Effect Of Poverty Essay Introduction Hunger is a current social issue that plays a role in many American families who are living in poverty. Although poverty is a major issue in its own category, hunger is an ugly side effect of poverty. Living in poverty has long term negative impacts on the overall well being of children. Morales, Sheaford, and Scott (2007) stated, hunger has an immediate impact on poor people because it represents a threat to one s very survival (p. 368). Children living in povertyare susceptible to enduring a level of hunger known as foodinsecurity. Food insecurity was defined as the limited or uncertain availability of foods that are nutritionally adequate and safe, or limited or uncertain ability to obtain acceptable foods by socially acceptable means (Siefert, K. (2008). White, Hispanic, Black, and Asian families in the United States are all faced with hunger. Thus, this may lead to many problems such as: poor nutrition, anxiety, developmental and psychosocial issues, depression, and chronic diseases. In effort to reducing hunger in America, federal food programs were constructed. The Food and Nutrition Service of the USDA administers 15 domestic food and nutrition assistance programs (WHY, 2008). Children that are faced with food insecurities may have trouble cognitively and physically in school. To help in end hunger in schools, programs like The National Lunch Program and The School Breakfast Program was developed. There are a number of immediate, as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Short Analysis for The Raven and “What Troubled Poe’s... The Raven I feel the title suggests that the poem might entail a story about a raven. Ravens are often associated with death, due to their dark, eerie features, as well as with trickery, thus the title clues that the story will most likely be shadier. The speaker of the poem is a man who is troubled by the memories of his lost love, Lenore, and of his impending death. And my soul from out that shadow that lies floating on the floor shall be lifted nevermore! (106, 107) indicates the speaker knows he has the possibility of dying soon. He carries on asking if the dark forces will clasp a rare and radiant maiden whom the angels name Lenore , but the Raven replies, as always, Nevermore meaning he will be separate from his love in the afterlife. The understanding developed in the poem is not particularly important, in my opinion, as it is not necessarily experienced in the same sadness, as the speaker of the poem understands. Nonetheless, the overall thought of the poem is very deep. The author pulls an idea that people wouldn t generally consider and uses many layers of thought to create intricate meaning and profundity. Being that my own father passed away a few years ago, I understand how elements of the physical world can provoke unwanted thoughts. The poem encourages its reader to see the world from his point of view. He deeply explains how thoughts can be prompted because of something in your atmosphere it forces readers to think about their own circumstances and reflect on their surroundings. The Raven is a complex piece of literature that leaves its readers with a new sense of reality. What Troubled Poe s Raven The title of this poem, What Troubled Poe s Raven , hints on its meaning due to what appears to be mild sarcasm over the poem, The Raven , written by Edgar Allan Poe. In The Raven , the Raven is a creature of death that tormented the soul of the speaker, yet the title of this poem calls the creature Poe s Raven even though Poe s character hated the Raven. • 6. Harrison Bergeron Response Essay Vonnegut Response In the story, Harrison Bergeron , written by Kurt Vonnegut, we read about a society that is equal. Harrison Bergeron is a futuristic story that shows the ill effects of an attempt by the government to make everyone equal or fair. The only way to accomplish this was to penalize or handicap the talented, so the untalented could be equal to them. In the opening paragraph, Vonnegut sets the story in the future by mentioning the year is 2081. He also provides an allusion to the constitution by mentioning the 211th, 212th, and 213th amendments. This illustrates how much the country has changed considering that there were only 22 constitutional amendments at the time the story was written. Vonnegut makes it very easy to see... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... By making everyone equal, the government just penalized everyone who wasn t the worst at everything. This meant there was no person who excelled in anything. Everyone had the same abilities which were very limited. Even though they all were equal after the handicaps, the best still stuck out as they had handicaps that were visible. Those who didn t have to be handicapped were likely jealous of those who had many so it still didn t fix the equality problem. This is similar to some government activities today such as the, No child left behind act. This act penalizes those who are good in school by limiting their opportunities, which allows the struggling students a better chance to pass. All this does is hinder the talented. It doesn t help society or increase the quality of life. It is similar to the socialist governments that believe everyone should make the same money. The socialists believe those who worked hard and prosper should have to give up what they have so the poor who did nothing to earn the money can be equal. This over time causes the productive people to be less productive because they have no incentive anymore. This is why the poor or lazy people, are always pushing for equality. If they can be equal monetarily wise without doing anything to get there, why wouldn t they support ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There was also a black market which caused three thousand tons of rice to disappear from Abeokuta (Byfield 82). Because of the rice in the black markets, the price again dropped and farmers and traders had a difficult time making a living. The main, local purchaser of rice was Mr. Shodipo (Byfield 82). Byfield expands on this by stating that there was a rumor which suggested that Mr. Shodipo was aligned with the Alake, also known as the king of the region. Many farmers refused to sell to other authorities because they were required to sell to Mr. Shodipo. Because of the monopoly being put on the farmers, the Alake was accused of using his political power for personal profit (Byfield 83). Even though there was no evidence to prove that the accusation was true, the Alake was still given the responsibility of ensuring that the rice quota was reached. This placed pressure on the Alake, and even though he did not reach the quota, he greatly increased the amount of rice produced (Byfield ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Black and White Photography By Pranjal Bhatia Introduction Photography is a scientific art of creating images by capturing light on a light sensitive material. Mist and fog converts the world into a natural monochrome with a soft stillness to it. Our eyes might not see in black and white but the human brain knows to appreciate the art that a monochrome picture is. Black and white cameras were existed since the 1930s and for an average user it might just seem like an old technology that has been replaced with the new cool go pros and mirror less cameras but for photographers and art lovers it s still an asset. Black and white does not necessarily mean removal of color, it requires its own way of seeing. Film photography allows one to have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Light and shadow is more obvious in absence of color. At the same time it does not take away from the composition of a picture. A strong composition still tends to be a strong composition minus the color. Since now we no longer have color to interest the viewer, one is able to appreciate the curve, the shapes and the texture, which otherwise may go unnoticed. Monochrome film photography allows one to learn and express emotions in their art differently. Great examples of this are the movie from 40s. They depicted all the emotions death, love, and happiness with shades. Color usually makes this process very easy. Another use of monochrome is for shooting nudes. Eliminating color removes the smutty component from the picture and allows one to appreciate the naked body as piece of art. One of the biggest reasons for the popularity of black and white photography is its timeless nature. Black and white is still considered a piece from photographic past as it adds a timeless quality to the picture. Film Photography Digital is great for color and can be pretty good for black and white also but in order to add the three dimensional sharpness. Most of the black and white cameras sold today are second hand from the 90s. Digital cameras have color sensor dots to sense the color while producing a picture. • 11. The Pros And Cons Of Customs Union The reason I chose Customs Union as my topic is to learn more about how members or potential members of a union establish an agreement that benefit all parties. I find it interesting that members of a union are able to influence one another s economic growth, competition and how they can complement one another as well. Having a common trade policy among a group of members and removing all barriers of trade can play a significant role in the success of a business. It saves a lot money, and could be a competitive advantage over competitors. Countries of a union joining can also impact its position in a global market, as well as help the country economically. The ability for a group of countries to come together and help each other is fascinating, and is why I chose to explore this topic more. EXPLANATION OF KEY TERM The third stage of Economic Integration is Customs Union. According to the Encyclopaedia of Britannica, Customs Union is a trade agreement by which a group of countries charges a common set of tariffs to the rest of the world while granting free trade among themselves (Encyclopedia Britannica, 2010). Customs Union is free trade zone with common external tariffs; which helps increase economic efficiency and allows for signatories to establish political and cultural ties. Again the same themes are brought to light on the truth of pornography and it s relation to sex trafficking. One of the cornerstones of the entrapment into sex trafficking is a survivor, having a history of domestic violence and or sexual violence acted upon them or witnessed so prior to their own exploitation. It has been statistically proven many domestic abuse survivors and sexual abuse survivors have felt the impact of pornography upon their lives in the form of the abuser having either forced the survivors to watch porn and or engage in the degrading acts of pornography in some fashion. Furthermore, once one has been ensnared by a trafficker or pimp it is not unheard of for these predators to force the same upon their prey. Sometimes they will do this to further season and thus a part of the process of breaking in their prey to the acts the survivor will be forced, coerced, and or manipulated into engaging with clients in the life of sexual exploitation. Now the street corners are indeed becoming an occurrence of the past with current technology online pornography and what is known as webcam (or online sex hence quintessentially what is pornography) is taking over the exploitation industry. It is under the radar, it is difficult to detect, there are few laws, if any, laws which protect survivors trapped in the seedy world of online pornography. Reaction Between Hydrochloric Acid And Sodium Tiosulfate Reaction Order and Rate Laws Glenna Hoefs December 26, 2017 Abstract This report discusses a laboratory procedure to study the effect of reactant concentration on the rate of the reaction between hydrochloric acid and sodium thiosulfate, with the aim of determining the order of each reactant and the rate law for the reaction. For this experiment, the reactants were added to a well plate in varying concentrations. The reaction was timed by using a stopwatch and observing the production of a precipitate. The data collected during this procedure was then analyzed to determine the reaction order for each reactant as well at the rate law for the reaction. The hydrochloric acid was determined to have a reaction order of 0, while the sodium thiosulfate was determined to have a reaction order of 1. The reaction between hydrochloric acid and sodium thiosulfate was determined to be first order with respect to N2S2O3. The k constant for this reaction was calculated to be 0.1 1/s. We conclude that the concentration of hydrochloric acid does not have an effect on the rate of the reaction. The concentration of sodium thiosulfate, however, is directly proportional to the rate of the reaction. Anyone who is familiar with Dickinson s background will have a better understanding of what she is trying to say in this poem. When someone dies, those still on this earth sometimes experience stillness in nature, as if the world is on hold and listening to us. My middle name is Hawai ian and is a suffix attached to the names of female royalty, and it means heaven or sky. I am 100% full blooded Japanese. Allegedly my father s side of the family is descended from samurai and land owning barons, while my mother s side has a hazier history. Many people own firearms, whether it is a handgun, rifle, or shotgun, but not everyone knows how they function. The process is a bit more complex than to pull a trigger, some magic happens, and the projectile accelerates out of the barrel of the firearm. Every person who owns a firearm should be educated on the physics of how a firearm functions. Once you are confident with your shot on a target, pull the trigger. The specific mechanics from the trigger to the hammer or firing pin are different because it depends on the type of firearm and the company the manufactures it. However, pulling the trigger will produce the same end result for all firearms. The trigger will release the hammer or firing pin, which will... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The cartridge is the ammunition that is placed into the chamber of the firearm. Each firearm is designed to fire a certain caliber cartridge. Each caliber ensures a tight fit in the chamber of its assigned firearm, which will not allow any gases to escape once fired. Bullet cartridges are a combination of a projectile (bullet), a propellant (gunpowder), and a primer (explosive cap), all contained in a metal casing. The spark ignites the gunpowder. Most people believe that it is the explosion that propels the projectile; however, this theory is false. When the powder ignites, it releases gases that expand and push on the projectile. • 24. Problems Of The And Boundary Work Problems of Demarcation and Boundary Work One of the fundamental areas of study concerning professionals, including lawyers and scientists, is that of professional boundaries (Lamont Molnar). Where are the bounds of the profession? Who is included and who is excluded from the profession? One of the driving questions for scholars of science has been the demarcation problem, that is determining what is and is not included in science (Gieryn 1983). Historically, the social studies of science has divided between internal and external approaches, which studied the construction of science from inside and outside the professional boundaries of science respectively (Kuhn 1977). Thus externalism internalism debates in the history and sociology of science formed the central dividing line of the field until late last century (Shapin 1992). However, a contemporary consensus has emerged in science studies that the demarcation problem is essentially irrelevant to the study of science. The demarcation problem has been called a pseudo problem by those who argue that philosophically there is no reason to believe that it is possible to define necessary and sufficient conditions to separate the scientific from the non scientific. (Laudin 1983) Gieryn proposed that instead of considering demarcation as a conceptual problem, the bounds of science should be reinterpreted as a practical problem faced by scientists who have a professional need to distinguish their work from other intellectual ... Everything has its humble beginnings, and baseballis no different. Games that resemble baseball have been around for centuries, and they have led to the development of baseball itself. The game of baseball originated from a game called rounders. Rounders consisted of two teams, a striking team and a fielding team. The striking team s goal was to hit the ball in order to score rounders, or runs, in modern baseball. The rules were similar to the rules of baseball today. There were two teams consisting of nine players and four bases. One difference between rounders and baseball is that there is no foul territory in rounders. Any hit ball is in play and the player may run. In baseball, the ball must be hit in between the foul lines painted on the third and first base lines (Olmos). Ibn Khaldun s 4 Step Model Ibn Khaldun s 4 Step Model Asabiyyah means a unification of people through a common system of beliefs, culture, language, history, and traditions forming a community. Ibn Khaldun a historian/sociologist, describes this through many of his aspects of writings of the 14th century, describing the bond of cohesion among humans in a group forming community (Wikipedia: Muuaddimah). Asabiyyah can be from small societies such as nomadic people in tribes, to much larger societies such as empires and states containing sedentary people. The Nomads were people of a tribe who would migrate around many different places in search of new viable resources, wealth, and technology when their supply of food and land would be exploited. The nomads were the hunter gatherers of the 7th 13th centuries and also even having their own livestock in most cases. They herded sheep, cattle, goats, horses, and many other animals. Since they move from place to place so much they do not partake in agriculture so much, or even so on a long term basis. The nomads would migrate for reasons such as to raid settled communities or avoid approaching enemy conflicts. As she works out the last few tangles from her hair, the woman s gaze turns to her reflection the dulling of her once youthful body palpable in the company of her youthful daughter. Author Sharon Olds uses the narrative of a mother daughter relationship to address issues of aging, death and replacement, juxtaposing the youth of a ten year old with the maturity of the thirty five year old. 35/10 takes readers on one womans journey of sorrow as she copes with the loss of her youth, but deeper than that, her confrontation with grief as she realizes her daughter will one day replace her. The woman feels as though she is beginning her life s decline just as her daughter begins her ascent into womanhood, inquiring, ...Why is it / just as we begin to go / they begin to arrive... (lines 4 6). Olds takes on the voice of this despondent woman in her poem 35/10, using rich, honest language and metaphoric comparisonsto communicate observations about the cycle of life and the pattern of replacement. In the main body of her poem, Olds lists a sequence of three key metaphoric comparisons between the woman and her daughter s changing bodies. Both characters are experiencing small previews of their futures through developmental transformations, the younger a preview of womanhood and the older a preview of aging and ultimately future replacement. In the next two days this beach will be covered in upwards of 30,000 allied troops and will see some of the bloodiest fighting of the war in the next four months. Anzio was originally supposed to be a distraction that Sir Alexander could use to breach the Gustav line. However, after a failure to immediately push towards Rome the allieswould be trapped in trench warfare and would be forced to breakout of Anzio. This was, simply enough, called the Anzio Breakout. The escape from Anzio was comprised of the plan and its flaw, the invasion, and the Breakout. The allied commander Sir Alexander felt that he would be unable to take Rome unless a... Although they met some heavy resistance on the way to Cisterna and Littoria, that eventually halted their advance, they managed to increase their numbers, and built anti air guns impairing the German Luftwaffe. Despite their progress because they did not immediately drive towards Rome the Germans were able to recover and retaliate. Most of the German counterstrikes were random air raids on the snarl of trenches the allies had dug. The allies broken and weary from the random barrage of artillery were more then ready to escape the trenches of Anzio and head towards the capital Rome. They got their chance on May 12, 1944. On this date the Fifth and Eighth corps retaliated with their long anticipated offensive against the Gustav Line, finally allowing them to capture Cassino successively breaking the Gustav Line. • 50. Odds Against Tomorrow Character Analysis As each day passes, the events that we encounter enters through each and everyone of our minds and becomes an assimilation of experiences. Over a long period of time one s past experiences come to affect how they see newer ones. As each and every experience fills our minds, it creates an expectation or order in which our judgment causes us to assume or create reason for the future to become a certain way. This process can be viewed as perspective, perspective influences your actions, emotions, it can be a complete rulebook for the way a person becomes and acts. In the book OddsAgainst Tomorrow, by Nathaniel Rich as we explore the world through the eyes of one character, Mitchelle, we began to notice a possibly very eccentric perspective on life and chance. Throughout the book we notice other characters and their views on the same events. This then relays back to previous experiences or life events that these characters have undergone. Overall through the reading we can notice a theme of multiple or different perspectives, that fact of which perspectives are right or where these perspectives come from is determined by the reader. One can simply conclude that because of the past experiences or events that an individual has encountered throughout their life this then becomes a major deciding factor in their new perceptive. This perspective can change, as the events that we experiencecome to change as well. For example an overflow of optimism may be encountered after one ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 51. Special Education Disproportionality The problem of disproportionate numbers of minority students in special education can be attributed to a report by Lloyd Dunn in 1968 (as cited in Skiba et al., 2008) even though discrimination was evident long before that in America. The phenomenon of disproportionality as it relates to students from minority backgrounds being placed in special educationrefers to the percentage of students receiving services being a higher rate than is expected or that differs significantly from other races. Skiba et al. (2008) discuss the history of various aspects of the civil rights movement as they pertain to the issue of disproportionality of students from minority backgrounds in special education, the measurement tools used to determine the need for special education, the current status of disproportionality, and what factors have contributed to the discrepancies in numbers. Finally, recommendations are offered by the authors on how the existence of disproportionality of students from a minority background can be rectified. In response to various court cases relating to services for students with special needs, The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) was enacted to mandate to the states that data regarding overrepresentation of race and ethnicity must be collected and monitored. If it is determined that a disproportionate number of students from a minority background are receiving special education services, a review of policies and procedures is required to ... But respect also has to be earned. If you can t respect yourself then you won t be able to respect others. To gain respect you have to treat others the way you would want to be treated. Without respect you can t have team work and care for other peoples well being. It is respect which creates devotion to the team, and the important part is that that respect flows both up and down the chain of command. In the United States Army it is inaccurate to say you are required to respect the man or woman behind the rank. The greater rank does not imply a greater human being.
