ABSTRACT
o A wireless technological device which is popular for extremely
low power, and low bit rate ireless PAN technology called
“ZigBee”.
o Designed for
• Wireless automation
• Lower data takes
o ZigBee enables new opportunities for wireless sensors and
control networks, ZigBee is standard based
o Used globally, reliable and self healing, support large of nodes,
easy to deploy, very long battery life and secure.
This abstract aims at presenting the concept of ZigBee, the name of a specification for a
suite of high level communication protocols using small, low-power digital radios based on the
IEEE 802.15.4-2006 standard for wireless personal area networks (WPANs), such as wireless
headphones connecting with cell phones via short-range radio. The technology is intended to
be simpler and less expensive than other WPANs, such as Bluetooth. ZigBee is targeted at
radio-frequency (RF) applications that require a low data rate, long battery life, and secure
networking. ZigBee is a specification for a suite of high level communication protocols used
to create personal area networks built from small, low-power digital radios. ZigBee devices
can transmit data over a long distances by passing data through a mesh network of
intermediate devices to reach more distant ones. It is typically used in low data rate
applications that require long battery life and secure networking. ZigBee specification is
intended to be simpler and less expensive than other wireless personal area networks, such as
Bluetooth or Wi-Fi. Application include wireless light switches, electrical meters with in home
displays, traffic management systems, and other equipment. Network simulators like NS2,
OPNET and NetSim can be used to simulate ZigBee networks. These simulators come with open
source C and C++ libraries for users to modify. This way users can determine the validity of
new algorithms prior to hardware implementation.
INTRODUCTION
➢ Technological stands created for control and sensor
networks.
➢ Based on the IEEE 802.15.4 standard. It can provide the
wireless personal area network.
➢ ZigBee specifications is to be simpler and less expensive
compare with the other WPN’s such as Bluetooth.
➢ Designed for low power consumption allowing batteries to
essentially last for ever.
Characteristics
 Low power consumption with battery life ranging
from months to years.
 High density of nodes per network
 Low cost
 Simple Implementation
 Low data rate
 Small packet device
Proposed System
 ZigBee is focused on control and automation.
 ZigBee uses low data rates, low cost, low power consumption and
work with small packet device.
 ZigBee network can support a larger number of device and a longer
range between device and Bluetooth.
ZigBee Vs Bluetooth
BLUETOOTH
 Bluetooth was developed under IEEE
802.15.1, which is used fro providing
wireless communiation through
radio signals.
 The frequency range supported in
bluetooth vary from 2.4 GHz to
2.483 GHz.
 It covers less distance than Zigbee.
 In Bluetooth, GFSK modulation
technique is used.
ZIGBEE
 In Zigbee, BPSK and QPSK modulation
techniques are used like UWB (Ultra-
Wide Band).
 The frequency range supported in
Zigbee mostly 2.4 GHz worldwide, it
means 2.4 GHz is not supported all
times.
 It covers more distance as compared
with Bluetooth.

APPLICATION
Advantages And Disadvantages Of ZigBee Technology
ADVANTAGES
➢ The ZigBee has flexible network
structure.
➢ It has a very long battery life.
➢ It is low power consumption.
➢ It is easy to install.
➢ It can be easily implemented.
➢ It supports large number of nodes
i.e. 6500 nodes approximately.
➢ It has a very low cost.
➢ It is more reliable and self healing.
➢ Setting up the network is very
simple and easy.
DISADVANTAGES
➢ It is so highly risky to be used for
official private information.
➢ The ZigBee has low transmission
rate.
➢ Replacement with ZigBee compliant
appliances can be costly.
➢ It does not have many end devices
available yet.
➢ It cannot be used as outdoor
wireless communication system due
to it has short coverage limited.
➢ It is not secure like wi-fi based
secured system.
Conclusion
In future all devices and their controls will
be based on this standard.
Scince Wireless Personal Area Networking
applies not only to household devices,
but also to indivisualised office
automation application, ZigBee is here to
stay. It is more than likely the basis of
future home-networking solution……..
