This document provides an overview of the ADAALE project which aims to: 1. Decrease dropout rates among adult learners in Europe and increase retention of adults returning to secondary education. 2. Share experiences of teachers and guidance professionals regarding dropout prevention. 3. Develop common pedagogical methods for adult educators to improve retention. It outlines key terms, achievements from a previous meeting, and objectives for the current work in Portugal including data analysis, piloting teaching methods, and a learner seminar. The overall key objective is to enjoy the experience.

teachers/lecturers and guidance counsellors/
student support staff who work in with adults
in lifelong learning programmes.

3. Key Terms
Adults:
Anybody over 18 returning to formal education to pursue a national qualification, having left or not
having had the opportunity to progress their studies
Second chance education:
Those who, for any reason, have dropped out of secondary education and later on returned to get the
secondary level
Dropout:
Someone starting a formal national qualification, as an adult, and has not completed ( for any reason)
this qualification
