Stephen King and the Pet Sematary Essay
Stephen Edwin King was the son of Donald King and Ruth Pillsbury King. He was born on September
21st, 1947 in the town of Portland, Maine. Stephen s dad, Donald, abandoned the family when
Stephen was very young. Stephen grew up with his hard working mother and his older brother, David.
Stephen and his family moved around a lot throughout his childhood, but they finally settled in
Durham, Maine when Stephen was eleven. Stephen was a student at Durham Grammar School, and he
continued his schooling at Lisbon Falls High School and graduated in 1966.Throughout Stephen s
years in school he was an introverted child. He read many comic books and fantasy horror fiction
novels, and he loved to watch science fiction and monster movies in his free ... Show more content on

His house was beside a very busy road that was a part of a truck route, and his daughter s cat had been
hit and killed by one of the many passing trucks. Three days after he buried his daughter s cat he got
the idea for the book when he wondered what it would be like if the cat would come back to life after
being buried in a Pet Cemetery. Then one day, his son, Owen, ran towards the busy road, and he and
his wife had to catch him before he could reach it. This gave him the idea of a child being killed and
brought back to life in the Cemetery. After he got the two ideas he began writing Pet Sematary.
The protagonist of Pet Sematary was Louis Creed. Louis was the husband of Rachel Creed, and he
was the father of Gage and Eileen (Ellie). Louis and his family moved from Chicago to a busy road in
Ludlow, Maine when Louis got a job at the university as a doctor. Once Louis and his family moved
into the house in Ludlow, odd things began to happen. A few days after the family had settled in their
neighbor, Jud Crandall, took the family up to the pet cemetery not far from their house. On Louis s
first day working at the university a boy named Victor Pascow was hit by a car and died in Dr. Creed s
care. Before dying, Victor muttered about the Pet Sematary which scared Louis. A few months later on
Thanksgiving night, Ellie s cat, Church, was struck by a car while crossing the road. Jud and Louis
found the cat with a broken

Economic Systems And Economic System
An economic system governs how a society s resources are allocated between people, and so the
question of its morality is immensely important (Winfield, et al, 2014). This essay will analyse the
different economic systems by considering the two economic systems that fall on the extreme ends of
the spectrum of economic systems, these being capitalism and socialism. It will further discuss the
characteristics of each of these economic systems and based on these, argue that the mixed economy is
the best alternative economic system. The forms of regulations that create efficiencies and those that
create inefficiencies will be argued for and the importance and benefits of these regulations will be
analysed. .
A capitalist economic system is one that is predominantly characterised by free markets, private
ownership and limited government intervention. Free markets are commonly known for their ability to
achieve economic efficiency primarily through the volunteer nature of exchange and the existence of
competition amongst producers (Winfield, et al, 2014). Adam Smith believed that the goal of every
economic system should be to achieve economic efficiency through the mechanisms of productive and
allocative efficiency. Productive efficiency can be defined as producing goods and services for the
lowest cost while allocative efficiency is more concerned with the distribution and allocation of
resources in the economy to where they are valued most and can attain maximum satisfaction for

Freedom In Albert Camus s The Myth Of Sisyphus
Freedom
People follow same standard steps from birth till the end. We go to kindergarten then to
school. Later we enter university and live with the desire of to find a good job and to make a
better life. Do we do these things, because we really want it? In fact, this is just expectations of
society that most people think they should follow. Albert Camus, philosopher and writer, claims
that with living almost the same lives with others and with following the society we just repress
ourselves. In his essay The Myth of Sisyphus , he acknowledges that person can be free with
accepting the Absurd. People who follow the expectations of society repress their freedom,
because they are not aware that they are ruled by society. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, the absurd man is determined to reject all of these
expectations on him. The only freedom the absurd man can know is the freedom he experiences:
the freedom to think and to act as he chooses. By abandoning the idea that he has some role to
fulfill, the absurd man attains the freedom of taking each moment of life as it strikes him, free of
preconceptions or prejudices.
The Guest of the Albert Camus, follows the story of Daru. He is a schoolteacher who lives
on a remote plateau. We see from the beginning of the story that Daru lives alone but he does not
feel lonely. He is even grateful for his solitude and for living in the cruel desert. One day Daru
watches two men approach his schoolhouse. One of the men was Balducci, a friend of Daru and
he leads an Arab prisoner who has been accused of murdering his cousin. Balducci has been
ordered to bring the Arab to Daru, and then return immediately to his post. Likewise, Daru has
orders to turn in the prisoner to police headquarters. Daru refuses this task, considering it
dishonorable, because he does not know that he is guilty or not. Balducci agrees with the
schoolmaster, but insists that in war men must be prepared to do many different jobs.

Olaudah Equiano Influence On Religion
Let us again face the winds and seas, and swear not, but trust to God, and [H]e will deliver us . In The
Interesting Narrative of the Life of Olaudah Equiano, the narrator displayed himself as being
spirituality devoted, though he struggled with his faith throughout his narrative of his journey into
slavery, as a slave, and as a freed African. As a boy, Olaudah Equiano was kidnaped from his
childhood home and forced into the transatlantic slave trade of the sixteenth century. With the
influence of several upstanding Christians in Equiano s life, he felt that Christianity was the
appropriate life path to walk. Throughout his life as a slave and then a free man, Equiano frequently
questioned himself and his fellow Christians about what it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Admittingly, he seemed to agree with the practice of Islam more much than Christianity, as Equiano
thought those who in general termed themselves Christians not so honest or so good in their morals as
the Turks...[who] were in a safer way of salvation than my neighbors . Equiano did not expand on his
views of Islam other than his description of his respect for the Turks practices, so it is unclear what his
complete opinion on Islam was. Nonetheless, he felt a deep spiritual connection to God and an innate
truth in Christianity. As Equiano does not detail any spiritual connection to Islam, his interest in the
Turkish Muslims practices can be viewed as a mere fascination that never went beyond the cultural
realm. The Turks had spiritual style, but Equiano found Christianity to be the true religion.
Equiano felt the Christian God s omnipresent power in times of oppression and in times of success.
Thus, his narrative is akin to the typical Christian journey of finding salvation through trials and
tribulations. He began his journey in slavery, blind to the existence of God. His eyes were opened
when he gained knowledge of Christianity and read the scriptures. Equiano was led by God through
the horrors of the slave trade and into the light of

The Effects Of A Rising Population With Dwindling Water...
The Effects of a Rising Population with Dwindling Water Resources Water is a non renewable
resource that is being threatened by America s exponential population growth and increasing water
consumption per capita. The future is tiptoeing its way forward, and until the magnitude of this reality
is acknowledged, the U.S. will fail to prepare for a potential loss of resources. America s population
growth, especially paired with its decreasing water supply, will lead to a synthesis of issues
threatening America s industries, living conditions, overall health, environment, and economy.
America s population is growing rapidly as a result of several different factors and will come with a
cost. A consequence of our modern medical technology ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When addressing the nature of water changes, it is critical to distinguish droughts departures from a
local climatological norm that is presumed known from actual dryness itself. After conceptually
separating the two, it was found that America was not just in a temporary drought but would continue
to grow drier. (Sherwood) A key component that many high profile climate reports fail to consider is
that with warming land, more rain is needed to sustain it. Although many regions will get more rain,
few will get enough to match the growing evaporative demand. If this demand is not met, precipitation
will continue to decrease, and our water resource will continue to shrink. (Sherwood) Although
humans could take further measures to reserve additional freshwater, humans already appropriate over
50 percent of all available renewable freshwater. (Srinivasan) Because water consumption is
proportional to the available amount of water, as America s freshwater supply drops they begin to use
a higher percentage of this valuable resource, leaving little amounts of water for other purposes.
(Sherwood) To compensate for this high use of water, America must put caps

Yields on municipal bonds are often lower than corporate or Treasurybonds with comparable
maturities, because of the important advantage of not being taxed at the government level. The feature
of this bond is low default risk, may be exempt from local authorities taxes and not very attractive.
c. Corporate bond
A type of bonds is issued by a corporation.Corporate bonds often pay higher rates than government or
municipal bonds, because they tend to be riskier. The bondholder receives interest payments (yield)
and the principal, usually 100,000VND, is repaid on a fixed maturity date (bonds can mature
anywhere between 1 to 30 years). Generally, changes in interest rates are reflected in bond prices.
Bonds are considered to be less risky than stocks, since the company has to pay off all its debts
(including bonds) before it handles its obligations to stockholders. Corporate bonds have a wide range
of ratings and yields because the financial health of the issuers can vary widely. The most popular
types of this bond is convertible bonds. However, nowadays, many corporations choose to issue
floating rate bonds; MOF estimated that there were about 18,000 floating rate bonds are issued in
2011. The feature of this bond is time saving, reducing cost

Use Of Diction And Its Effects On Adult Men With Erectile...
Sildenafil, or more commonly known as VIAGRA, is a medication that is geared towards adult men
with erectile dysfunction, abbreviated ED (Medicines EMC). It is stated that about 30 million men in
the United States suffer from ED (Viagra). In Viagra commercials and advertisements, blunt diction is
utilized to highlight the common insecurities of men, which creates this idea that in order to fulfill one
s manliness, then an individual would have to take Viagra. In this particular advertisement, I noticed
key ploys to entice a man suffering from ED to take Viagra as a means by using a bold selection of
diction, a paradise getaway background seen from a cabana, and an inviting, seductive woman.
In the advertisement, the audience may first notice the blue text in the upper left corner that reads,
Gentlemen: VIAGRA helps guys with ED get and keep an erection. The text is light blue, which is the
same color as the pill, to indicate that this product is targeted towards males. The use of diction in this
advertisement is straight forward with strong connotation. It blatantly states what the product does.
This could instill the idea that the product is confident and a guaranteed investment, thus making the
consumer believe that it may help with his sex life. Viagra may also be intentionally bolded as a
connection to what the product is intended to do. The text looks bigger and bolder and the product s
purpose is to make a male suffering from ED to become bigger and bolder. This

Class Conflict In The Communist Manifesto
The Communist Manifesto is strongly influenced by the history of class struggle and social
differences throughout history. Marx said that history is only a timeline of class struggle, set apart
from the change in style of production. The book is about the conflict between the Proletariat and the
Bourgeois, the troubled and the bully. However, this is not a new idea and Marx is really not all that
radical. Aristotle wrote, Those who have too much of the goods of fortune, strength, wealth, friends
and the like, are neither willing nor able to submit to authority. On the other hand, the very poor, who
are in the opposite extreme, are too damaged. As Marx says in the book, modern history is the
demonstration of centuries of a system that was and still is built on the delicate balance of
discrimination. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Analysis Of Ask Me If I Care And Safari Essay
Women have a few common tropes in literature. Seen as submissive to men, and sexualized because of
it, women are presented as less than. While this has been strayed from a little bit in modern literature
with the engagement of queer writers, it is still very much the normal view of women, due to a society
in which the view on women is that of being less than. The short stories Ask Me if I Care and Safari
by Jennifer Egan both perpetuate this idea of women as submissive. Egan presents female characters
who only exist in the context of men, thus leaving them to be seen as inferior to the men. These tropes
of women in literature, and Egan s use of them, fit into the larger conversation: there is a degradation
of women in literature due to common conceptions of women in society.
Egan presents multiple female characters in Ask Me if I Care . The short story touches on a group of
friends, and in this group are the two characters of Rhea and Jocelyn both female. While they may
seem to be presented differently, Rhea as a not interested in being sexualized character and Jocelyn as
a sexualizes herself character, both ultimately play into the trope of submissive and degraded women.
Rhea, from the beginning, is portrayed as needing men: Still, if it s Bennie and me I hope for the back,
so that I can push against his shoulder in the cold, and hold him for a second when we hit a bump
(Egan, Ask Me ). While this may seem innocuous, it is the first introduction to Rhea. The very

Monopoly And Monopolistic Competitive Market
The study of Microeconomics tells us of the different market structures the economy is made of. For
the purpose of this paper, we will take an in depth look at three of these such market structures.
Monopoly and Monopolistic competitive market along with Oligopoly. We will look at how and why
these markets exist in conjunction with the advantages to the producer and the disadvantages to the
consumer. As we research Monopoly in detail, compare the monopolistic competitive market and
Oligopoly, we will also discuss the Gas market in relation to these types of markets. To begin to
understand monopolies, we have researched several things. Why do they exist? What do they do, in
response to the economy? Although, we don t see many monopolies now due to antitrust laws to
prevent monopolies from forming, there are natural monopolies. There are several reasons why
monopolies exist. These are known as barriers to entry. Scarce resources with one producer can limit
the number of other firms joining the market as competition. Increasing returns to scale prevents
smaller firms from entering an industry because as output rises average total cost falls. This in turn
enables these producers to grow and tolerate the monopoly. This is now where a natural monopoly is
formed. A single producer of an industry has a large cost advantage over other smaller firms, if they
existed in the industry. A natural monopoly includes local water, gas and electricity providers. These

Review Of Twilight Of Mills
Twilight of Mills
Post the strike the land on which the mills stood became prized possessions to acquire, where space
was a concern. It only drew the attention of one and all who wanted to show their power and claim the
city. The mill lands thus became like the land in the game of Monopoly. Today and the years to come,
Mumbai will be seen as the Monopoly City. The elite classes especially, find it prestigious to have
property in the city. As of today having an apartment or even land in the city is considered as a status
symbol. The day is not far when the heritage of Mumbai will disappear and be replaced by luxury
spaces developed and under the control of the elite class.

The growth is in the form of appurtenant and service industry which is expected to lead to the
Globalization of Bombay. Currently, it is unnecessary to pinpoint what or who has been responsible
for the decline of the industry. In spite of the fact that the competition today has become more stronger
due to aspects such as cost of raw materials and transportation along with fuel, taxation and policies.
And all this has been post the Strike in terms of the powerlooms.
It needs to be understood that this is a case observed worldwide, but even so the conditions especially
in Mumbai are different as compared to the ones in Manchester or Lowell. The existence of such a
vast market needs to be the reason for the industry to flourish. Knowing very well all these aspects the
mill owners and the state are thoroughly convinced that the only source for earning enormous profits
is through the surplus mill lands.
The changing landscape of Bombay is considered as a shift in the political economy of Bombay away
from the industrial time zone marked by mills, chawls and chimneys of mills into a post industrial
highly service centered economy. Here, Bombay is seen to serve as a center for the global economy of
the country. A place for international finance, trade and commerce, a new knowledge based and highly

After the industrial revolution, the development of frame construction, invention of elevator, and rise

Essay on A P by John Updike
A P
John Updike, one of the most forward thinking and socially provocative writers of the 50s and 60s, is
known for his incisive presentation of the quandaries of contemporary personal and social life. (Lawn
529) Updike graduated from Harvard University and wrote for one of the more cutting edge
publications like The New Yorker both are notoriously ahead of their time and harbor controversial
ideas. In his short story A P , Updike reveals a young man named Sammy in a society on the brink of a

The girls, despite their obvious fashion faux pas, carry themselves with a certain confidence and
individuality that is rare in this society. Updike has Sammy refer to the other customers as sheep, pigs,
house slaves, and even as having a fuselage revealing how empty these citizens are. The references to
sheep are clear symbols for the conformity of the late 1950s and early 1960s. The trend (or revolution)
towards non conformity is quickly approaching as the three girls are leaders of this new movement.
Their wealth allows them to most likely live within a large city where the world moves much faster
than in the rural regions and even in the suburbs. Whereas cities are always advancing in all aspects,
the small communities, much like the one Sammy lives in, tend to hold onto tradition and more
conservative values. The normal behavior for beach goers in this small town is, as Updike so blatantly
puts it, the women generally put on a shirt or shorts or something before they get out of the car into
the street. (Lawn 401) The three girls are part of a new generation, one that is changing styles of
fashion and lifestyle faster than ever before.
Sammy at first is an innocent onlooker to this fiasco. Sammy devotes much more descriptive quality
to the girls than to anyone or anything else surrounding him. In describing Queenie s bathing suit he
says, the straps were down.

Analysis Of Upton Sinclair s The Jungle And The Harvest...
Change is one of the most difficult things to do, it is always difficult to find what to change let alone
how to change. However, one of the key messages a writer can convey to an audience is human
compassion or empathy, to inspire action or change, and to bring about a deeper understanding of the
world. Both writer Upton Sinclair s fiction writing The Jungle and the non fiction writing The Harvest
Gypsies by John Steinbeck inform the reader of the difficulties faced by immigrants and migrant
workers. However while the author of The Jungle , Upton Sinclair, uses descriptive details that show
the plight of the immigrants, it is the deeper understanding of the difficulties faced from the families
in John Steinbeck s The Harvest Gypsies that are more efficacious in evoking compassion and
inspiring change.
In 1906 Upton Sinclair worked side by side with immigrants in the meatpacking industry endeavoring
to reveal what genuinely goes on within the factory walls. While doing so, Upton Sinclair uses details
that evoke compassion while bringing out a deeper understanding of their world. In the fictional
writing The Jungle, the author Upton Sinclair uses details such as ate as much raw blood as food , mile
after mile and describes the immigrant s journey as an endless vista of pain and uncleanliness. Sinclair
describes the journey of the immigrants as a journey of endless suffering. It is the amount of suffering
that the immigrants go through that evoke compassion while

The Causes Of The Triangle Fire Of 1911
A year after shirtwaist workers thought they had won a war, the Triangle Fire proved that it had
merely been a battle. Under the Triangle Shirtwaist Company owners, Max Blanck and Isaac Harris,
the men and women laboring to sew waist skirts were dissatisfied with their terrible working
conditions and low wages. While working, the garment workers, made up of mostly poor Italian and
Jewish women immigrants, would constantly be yelled at and called sexist slurs by bosses, and forced
to work long, tiring hours for little pay (Argersinger 11). Tired of these conditions, the workers of the
Triangle Shirtwaist Company in New York met in secret to form a union against the company in
September 1909 (Argersinger 11). The union of the garment workers acquired the backing of both the
International Ladies Garment Workers Union and the Women s Trade Union League, which inspired
many other women, both working and upper classes, to follow the older unions lead and join the
garment workers fight. Accordingly, thousands of garment workers launched an eleven week strike on
November 22, 1909, which became known as the Uprising of Twenty Thousand (Argersinger 11 12).
The strikes were successful because they accomplished their key goals, though this came at the cost of
improving workplace safety which eventually led to the Triangle Fire of 1911. Years before the
tragedy, the motivations of the Triangle Shirtwaist Company workers to participate in the Uprising of
Twenty Thousand were

College Dropout Rates In America
Did you know, that according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, only 65.9% of students in America

How did the Second World War Influenced the Economy of Germany?
Introduction:
As war impacts all aspects of the country involved, economy is one of the most heavily hit, as seen in
Germany through WWII. Before the Second World War Germany was deeply separated due to the
Treaty of Versailles which cut Germany s industrial west from it populous east. However Hitler
through his political acts wished to unify these halves of the same whole. As an act of unifying the
country Hitler placed the Jews and other undesirables at the center of the blame for the happening in
the German economy. Additionally, the persecution of the Jews skewed the data that is represented
today because of the alienation of the Jews as citizens they were not included in the statistics collected
at the time. Additionally, women were taken out of the data collection furthering the false validity of
the statistics presented by the Nazi Party. How did the persecution of the Jews influence the
inaccuracy of the data and statistics taken at this time? What impact did Hitler have on the German
economy? How did Hitler unifying Germany aid in its economic recovery? How did Hitler s attempt
at European domination lead to the defeat of Germany during WWII? How did the money system in
place before the end of the war compare to the money system after the war ceased?

The Black Elk, The Lakota Tribe Of The Oglala Lakota
I did not know then how much was ended. When I look back now from this high hill of my old age, I
can still see the butchered women and children lying heaped and scattered all along the crooked gulch
as plain as when I saw them with eyes young. These are the words of Black Elk, the medicine man of
the Oglala Lakota, the tribe that was attacked by Wounded Knee Creek. The massacre included the
killing of civilians, including women and children, by the Seventh Cavalry Regiment. Leading up to
the massacre, the Lakota s land had continually been seized by the United States government. They
had already been almost wiped out by European settlers, even though they were once large and

This led to a blizzard of shots. Sitting bull, 8 supporting citizens, and 6 policemen were shot and

after 200 people left Sitting Bull s Hunkpapa band. They were afraid that more police officers would
arrive and detain them. Then, Spotted Elk, his band, and a handful of Hunkpapa left the Indian
Reservation on the Cheyenne River. They fled to the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation, under the control
of Red Cloud, to obtain shelter from the repercussions they believed they faced. On their way to Pine
Ridge, the fleeing Native Americans were intercepted be the Seventh Cavalry Detachment. The
cavalry was advised not to immediately disarm the Native American because it could result in
violence. They instead led them to Wounded Knee Creek, five miles to the west of their meeting place,
and forced the Native Americans to make camp there. The rest of the Seventh Cavalry arrived later
that night and surrounded the camp, totaling 500 troops. There were only 350 Native American

was a raw wedge of thrill in her love for him. (McCann 178). Rebecca devoted her life to Tomas. Due
to him being deaf, she never knew what he could comprehend. As for McCracken s Thunderstruck ,
we are introduced to a brittle mother daughter relationship. The story focuses on Laura, the mother

Jay Gatsby Flaws
Talk about the American dream. What some people see as creating a better life through hard work and
determination, F. Scott Fitzgerald keenly discerns as being materialistic gain. He demonstrates this
through his characters and uses their actions to show their selfish desire that eventually leads to ruin.
Fitzgerald ridicules the American dream through the characters in his work The Great Gatsby. He uses
Jay Gatsby as a modern twist on the classic tragic hero to show us how Gatsby s American dream is
flawed.
Jay Gatsby, being who the story is named after is a very good example of the American dream. He
also represents what most people living in 1920s America were striving for, notably, he has become so
rich that he throws extravagant parties almost every night. Although Gatsby is seen as being

The Start Of It All
The Start Of It All
According to The Norton Field Guide to Writing, All writing has a purpose. We write to explore our
thoughts and emotions, to express ourselves, to entertain: we write to record words and events, to
communicate with others, to try and persuade others to believe as we do or to behave in certain ways
(Bullock, Richard H, Maureen Daly Goggin, Francine Weinberg, 3). Writing can start with a simple
idea that crosses the mind, an event that brings back memories or a new thought that appears in the
mind. Every writer goes through a different scenario that allows them to experience the basics of
writing. The writer can experience certain prompts, or encounter people that will forever influence the
way they write. Every piece ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

correct got to pick out a prize from Mrs. Kandel s basket which would include some small toys, small
pieces of candy, or even stickers, which was the class favorite. This little activity started to train our
young minds to start learning the editing part of the writing process works without us even knowing
that Mrs. Kandel was doing so. This started to get our class used to proofreading without it being a
separate step in the writing process which helps greatly in writing so that the writer does not have to
spend so much time in the basics, but more time on the context of their writing. Since that day, I try to
minimize any errors that may occur by carefully reading each sentence to make sure that not one error
was made.
Through literature circles, Mrs Kandel had us read many books such as A Wrinkle in Time, Number
the Stars, and many more stories. Some of these novels we dreaded, while others we fell in love with.
She would sometimes let us read the novel with POPCORN so everyone got to read whether they only
read the limit of two lines or the student read until she made you give up their turn. Each story,

Nozick s View On Liberty
Liberty is a concept that has many differently meanings. Throughout human history, there has been a
constant back and forth from those who lack liberties that others are given without second thought. It
is clear when analyzing liberty movements such as the American and French Revolution, abolition,
and civil rights that most everyone desires certain liberties. While liberty may not have a single
definition, most people can agree that it is something that should be given to those who wish to live
harmoniously in a society. I agree with Rawls s view on liberty because without cooperation and
division of resources amongst citizens, the liberty that everyone hopes to reach cannot be attained.

Nozick s entitlement theory, a person who acquires a holding in accordance with the principle of
justice in acquisition is entitled to that holding. While I believe that everyone should have the right to
live comfortably, I also think that we should share our excesses with those who are not able to fulfil
their needs. Nevertheless, I believe that humans as an entity are more likely to agree with Nozick s
view, and I see how it could be better implemented into a preexisting society, whereas Rawls s concept
almost needs a complete blank slate to be fully implemented in the purest way possible. While Rawls
argues that, the idea of an overlapping consensus is introduced to make the idea of a well ordered
society more realistic and to adjust it to the historical and social conditions of democratic societies, I
believe that the conflicting religious, philosophical, and moral views held collectively by people vary
too much to implement Rawls s ideas in an effective way. Rawls definitely predicted this criticism, as
he justifies that through opposing religious, philosophical, and moral doctrines that gain a significant
body of adherents and endure over time from one generation to the next. If this was truly the case,
then sign me up for Rawls s plan, but even Rawls himself admits that, no such

This essay examines the physical, mental and social aspects of Kevin who is diagnosed with Atrial
Fibrillation (AF) and a known case of transient ischaemic attack(TIA). Atrial flutter or AF is an
arrhythmia which lead to severe cardiac complications. TIA is a nervous system deficit which occurs
as a result of impaired blood flow and usually settle down within 24 hours hence it is a short term
episode. Kevin who is a farmer, lives on his own, needs a thorough understanding of his present

In most cases, atrial fibrillation can end up in a larger left atria and pulmonary veins. Subsequently,
structural and functional changes happens within the heart in terms of size and shape which is called
cardiac remodelling. The initial phase is very important as that is when the the lost stabilities are
restored. Thereafter, if the action still goes on, massive changes happens in heart chambers, cardiac
function gets worse and eventually cardiac failure emerges. IN addition to all the above,
thromboembolism can be simply said as the clot formation in blood vessels which breaks and
obstructs another blood vessel. A thrombus can appear either in veins or in arteries. If it is not treated
properly by anticoagulants, stroke is the end result. Stroke can be categorized into three: ischaemic,
haemorrhagic and TIA or mini stroke. In ischemic stroke, blood circulation to the brain is deteriorated
followed by an obstruction in the blood vessel whereas haemorrhagic stroke is a result of bleeding in
the brain followed by the breakage of blood vessels. Age and cardio vascular disorders especially
hypercoagulable states are the precipitating factors for the former whereas high blood pressure and
aneurysms are the factors for latter. Mostly, TIA occur as a result of narrowing of vessels. If it is not
treated by anticoagulants at the very beginning, there is a high risk of developing stroke by means of
more occlusion in the blood vessel or the rupture. So,

to save him, so it won?t matter if he leaves his own at home because it will be waiting for him. Brown
meets the devil along a crooked path, and the devil asks why he is late; Brown replies, ?Faith kept me
back awhile?(311). The ?faith? Brown has left behind is not just his wife, but also his literal faith to
satisfy his burning human curiosity. Brown shows his desire to break loose from his normal life by
meeting Satan, the spawn of all rebellion, in the forest. Brown tries to fight the evil inside of him to
tell the devil he must go back to his faith, and the devil convinces him that they will walk the crooked
path and reason as they go. The devil says, ?and if I convince thee not thou shalt turn back. We are but
little in the forest yet?(312). As they venture further into the forest the devil tries to strip Brown of his
faith, but he realizes this and stops to exclaim, ?Too far! Too far!?(312). Brown argues the good
Christian background of his father and grandfather would never walk upon this crooked path with the
devil by their side. The path that Brown is on causes him to gamble with his soul under the
promptings of the devil, and he knows he must choose to either roll the dice or turn around and go

saying, ?They were my good friends, both; and many a pleasant walk have we had along this path, and

Arguments Against Animal Testing Essay
Animal Testing There is much debate over whether animal testing should be allowed or not. Some
people think that it is not essential to sacrifice animals for human benefits because they are being
abused and tortured severely during experiments. Some others who stand against animal testing claim
that humans eliminate many lives on earth in order to safe humans lives, so there is no justice because
even animals have the right to live on earth, yet these people do not consider the truth that animals are
being used in the food industry or in the laboratories. Thus, if someone asks how many animals are
being used in the laboratory experiments around the world every year, who can give an accurate
answer? It can be one, ten, or fifty million. It is difficult to find the exact figure on this question
because people only read news through mass media such as having a new vaccine which can help
human avoid uterus cancer or a new medicine help humans cure strokes, but they also need to know
how many lives of the animals would have to take in order to get theses vaccines. Therefore, some
organizes think that animal testing is one of the most disturbing experiments ever, and it should be
banned. Despite many controversies with opposing opinions, a compromise can be made in order to
reduce the use of animals in the laboratory experiments. In the problem, there are always opposite
sides which can create the debate about using animals in the laboratory experiments. Some people

High Blood Pressure Research Paper
Vicki, a 42 year old African American female has recently been diagnosed with high blood pressure.
Unaware of what high blood pressure is or why she has it, Vicki decides to do some research.
Blood pressure measures the force of blood pushing against the walls of the arteries (Centers for
Disease Control [CDC], 2016a). The heart pumps and forces blood through the arteries, which carry
blood through the body. The arteries taper off in size and become tiny vessels, called capillaries. At the
capillary level, oxygen and nutrients are released from your blood and delivered to the organs (Iliades,
2009). An increase in blood pressure is known as hypertension or high blood pressure.
Due to Vicki s nationality she is already predisposed to having this condition. African Americans are
more likely than any other racial or ethnic group to have high blood pressure and to develop the
condition earlier in life (Centers for Disease Control [CDC], 2016b). Lifestyle risk factors that can
lead to high blood pressure are; obesity, unhealthy diet, lack of activity, as well as alcohol and tobacco
use. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Blood pressure can be taken in a doctor s office, a pharmacy or even at home. A cuff is placed around
a limb, most commonly the upper arm, and inflated. While the cuff is being deflated, a stethoscope is
placed over an artery and used to listen to the heartbeat while watching a gauge. Blood pressure is
measured using two numbers. The first number, systolic, measures the pressure in your blood vessels
when your heart beats. This is the first beat the listener will hear. The second number, diastolic,
measures the pressure in your blood vessels when your heart rests between beats (CDC, 2016). This is
the last beat heard while deflating. A blood pressure of 120/80 mmHg is most desired. Anything
higher or lower should be discussed with a healthcare

Purgatory contains those who were a mixture of both good and evil, and they are reconciled and

The story of Laocoon is popularly found in the Aeneid, where Laocoon warned the Trojans against
bringing the wooden horse into Troy; as he suspected soldiers to be hiding in it. According to the
Encyclopedia Britannica, Laocoon was from Troy and was the priest of the god Apollo. Laocoon had
made a promise to Apollo to be celibate, as he was his priest. Laocoon ended up breaking this promise
and got married and had children. Apollo was mad about this. While Laocoon and his two sons were
preparing a sacrifice for Poseidon, two giant serpents, sent by Apollo, crushed them to death

This story is a great example of deception and justice. Like the thieves in the Inferno, Laocoon knew
that breaking his promise to Apollo was wrong but did it anyway. He proved that he was not

  • 2. Stephen King and the Pet Sematary Essay Stephen Edwin King was the son of Donald King and Ruth Pillsbury King. He was born on September 21st, 1947 in the town of Portland, Maine. Stephen s dad, Donald, abandoned the family when Stephen was very young. Stephen grew up with his hard working mother and his older brother, David. Stephen and his family moved around a lot throughout his childhood, but they finally settled in Durham, Maine when Stephen was eleven. Stephen was a student at Durham Grammar School, and he continued his schooling at Lisbon Falls High School and graduated in 1966.Throughout Stephen s years in school he was an introverted child. He read many comic books and fantasy horror fiction novels, and he loved to watch science fiction and monster movies in his free ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... His house was beside a very busy road that was a part of a truck route, and his daughter s cat had been hit and killed by one of the many passing trucks. Three days after he buried his daughter s cat he got the idea for the book when he wondered what it would be like if the cat would come back to life after being buried in a Pet Cemetery. Then one day, his son, Owen, ran towards the busy road, and he and his wife had to catch him before he could reach it. This gave him the idea of a child being killed and brought back to life in the Cemetery. After he got the two ideas he began writing Pet Sematary. The protagonist of Pet Sematary was Louis Creed. Louis was the husband of Rachel Creed, and he was the father of Gage and Eileen (Ellie). Louis and his family moved from Chicago to a busy road in Ludlow, Maine when Louis got a job at the university as a doctor. Once Louis and his family moved into the house in Ludlow, odd things began to happen. A few days after the family had settled in their neighbor, Jud Crandall, took the family up to the pet cemetery not far from their house. On Louis s first day working at the university a boy named Victor Pascow was hit by a car and died in Dr. Creed s care. Before dying, Victor muttered about the Pet Sematary which scared Louis. A few months later on Thanksgiving night, Ellie s cat, Church, was struck by a car while crossing the road. Jud and Louis found the cat with a broken ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Economic Systems And Economic System An economic system governs how a society s resources are allocated between people, and so the question of its morality is immensely important (Winfield, et al, 2014). This essay will analyse the different economic systems by considering the two economic systems that fall on the extreme ends of the spectrum of economic systems, these being capitalism and socialism. It will further discuss the characteristics of each of these economic systems and based on these, argue that the mixed economy is the best alternative economic system. The forms of regulations that create efficiencies and those that create inefficiencies will be argued for and the importance and benefits of these regulations will be analysed. . A capitalist economic system is one that is predominantly characterised by free markets, private ownership and limited government intervention. Free markets are commonly known for their ability to achieve economic efficiency primarily through the volunteer nature of exchange and the existence of competition amongst producers (Winfield, et al, 2014). Adam Smith believed that the goal of every economic system should be to achieve economic efficiency through the mechanisms of productive and allocative efficiency. Productive efficiency can be defined as producing goods and services for the lowest cost while allocative efficiency is more concerned with the distribution and allocation of resources in the economy to where they are valued most and can attain maximum satisfaction for ... Later we enter university and live with the desire of to find a good job and to make a better life. Do we do these things, because we really want it? In fact, this is just expectations of society that most people think they should follow. Albert Camus, philosopher and writer, claims that with living almost the same lives with others and with following the society we just repress ourselves. In his essay The Myth of Sisyphus , he acknowledges that person can be free with accepting the Absurd. People who follow the expectations of society repress their freedom, because they are not aware that they are ruled by society. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, the absurd man is determined to reject all of these expectations on him. The only freedom the absurd man can know is the freedom he experiences: the freedom to think and to act as he chooses. By abandoning the idea that he has some role to fulfill, the absurd man attains the freedom of taking each moment of life as it strikes him, free of preconceptions or prejudices. The Guest of the Albert Camus, follows the story of Daru. He is a schoolteacher who lives on a remote plateau. We see from the beginning of the story that Daru lives alone but he does not feel lonely. He is even grateful for his solitude and for living in the cruel desert. One day Daru watches two men approach his schoolhouse. One of the men was Balducci, a friend of Daru and he leads an Arab prisoner who has been accused of murdering his cousin. In The Interesting Narrative of the Life of Olaudah Equiano, the narrator displayed himself as being spirituality devoted, though he struggled with his faith throughout his narrative of his journey into slavery, as a slave, and as a freed African. As a boy, Olaudah Equiano was kidnaped from his childhood home and forced into the transatlantic slave trade of the sixteenth century. With the influence of several upstanding Christians in Equiano s life, he felt that Christianity was the appropriate life path to walk. Throughout his life as a slave and then a free man, Equiano frequently questioned himself and his fellow Christians about what it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Equiano did not expand on his views of Islam other than his description of his respect for the Turks practices, so it is unclear what his complete opinion on Islam was. Nonetheless, he felt a deep spiritual connection to God and an innate truth in Christianity. As Equiano does not detail any spiritual connection to Islam, his interest in the Turkish Muslims practices can be viewed as a mere fascination that never went beyond the cultural realm. The Turks had spiritual style, but Equiano found Christianity to be the true religion. Equiano felt the Christian God s omnipresent power in times of oppression and in times of success. Thus, his narrative is akin to the typical Christian journey of finding salvation through trials and tribulations. He began his journey in slavery, blind to the existence of God. His eyes were opened when he gained knowledge of Christianity and read the scriptures. Equiano was led by God through the horrors of the slave trade and into the light of ... The Effects of a Rising Population with Dwindling Water Resources Water is a non renewable resource that is being threatened by America s exponential population growth and increasing water consumption per capita. The future is tiptoeing its way forward, and until the magnitude of this reality is acknowledged, the U.S. will fail to prepare for a potential loss of resources. America s population growth, especially paired with its decreasing water supply, will lead to a synthesis of issues threatening America s industries, living conditions, overall health, environment, and economy. When addressing the nature of water changes, it is critical to distinguish droughts departures from a local climatological norm that is presumed known from actual dryness itself. After conceptually separating the two, it was found that America was not just in a temporary drought but would continue to grow drier. (Sherwood) A key component that many high profile climate reports fail to consider is that with warming land, more rain is needed to sustain it. Although many regions will get more rain, few will get enough to match the growing evaporative demand. If this demand is not met, precipitation will continue to decrease, and our water resource will continue to shrink. (Sherwood) Although humans could take further measures to reserve additional freshwater, humans already appropriate over 50 percent of all available renewable freshwater. (Srinivasan) Because water consumption is proportional to the available amount of water, as America s freshwater supply drops they begin to use a higher percentage of this valuable resource, leaving little amounts of water for other purposes. Corporate bond A type of bonds is issued by a corporation.Corporate bonds often pay higher rates than government or municipal bonds, because they tend to be riskier. • 9. Use Of Diction And Its Effects On Adult Men With Erectile... Sildenafil, or more commonly known as VIAGRA, is a medication that is geared towards adult men with erectile dysfunction, abbreviated ED (Medicines EMC). It is stated that about 30 million men in the United States suffer from ED (Viagra). In Viagra commercials and advertisements, blunt diction is utilized to highlight the common insecurities of men, which creates this idea that in order to fulfill one s manliness, then an individual would have to take Viagra. In this particular advertisement, I noticed key ploys to entice a man suffering from ED to take Viagra as a means by using a bold selection of diction, a paradise getaway background seen from a cabana, and an inviting, seductive woman. In the advertisement, the audience may first notice the blue text in the upper left corner that reads, Gentlemen: VIAGRA helps guys with ED get and keep an erection. The text is light blue, which is the same color as the pill, to indicate that this product is targeted towards males. The use of diction in this advertisement is straight forward with strong connotation. It blatantly states what the product does. This could instill the idea that the product is confident and a guaranteed investment, thus making the consumer believe that it may help with his sex life. Viagra may also be intentionally bolded as a connection to what the product is intended to do. The text looks bigger and bolder and the product s purpose is to make a male suffering from ED to become bigger and bolder. This ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. Class Conflict In The Communist Manifesto The Communist Manifesto is strongly influenced by the history of class struggle and social differences throughout history. Marx said that history is only a timeline of class struggle, set apart from the change in style of production. The book is about the conflict between the Proletariat and the Bourgeois, the troubled and the bully. However, this is not a new idea and Marx is really not all that radical. Aristotle wrote, Those who have too much of the goods of fortune, strength, wealth, friends and the like, are neither willing nor able to submit to authority. On the other hand, the very poor, who are in the opposite extreme, are too damaged. • 12. Analysis Of Ask Me If I Care And Safari Essay Women have a few common tropes in literature. Seen as submissive to men, and sexualized because of it, women are presented as less than. While this has been strayed from a little bit in modern literature with the engagement of queer writers, it is still very much the normal view of women, due to a society in which the view on women is that of being less than. The short stories Ask Me if I Care and Safari by Jennifer Egan both perpetuate this idea of women as submissive. Egan presents female characters who only exist in the context of men, thus leaving them to be seen as inferior to the men. These tropes of women in literature, and Egan s use of them, fit into the larger conversation: there is a degradation of women in literature due to common conceptions of women in society. Egan presents multiple female characters in Ask Me if I Care . The short story touches on a group of friends, and in this group are the two characters of Rhea and Jocelyn both female. While they may seem to be presented differently, Rhea as a not interested in being sexualized character and Jocelyn as a sexualizes herself character, both ultimately play into the trope of submissive and degraded women. Rhea, from the beginning, is portrayed as needing men: Still, if it s Bennie and me I hope for the back, so that I can push against his shoulder in the cold, and hold him for a second when we hit a bump (Egan, Ask Me ). • 14. Monopoly And Monopolistic Competitive Market The study of Microeconomics tells us of the different market structures the economy is made of. For the purpose of this paper, we will take an in depth look at three of these such market structures. Monopoly and Monopolistic competitive market along with Oligopoly. We will look at how and why these markets exist in conjunction with the advantages to the producer and the disadvantages to the consumer. As we research Monopoly in detail, compare the monopolistic competitive market and Oligopoly, we will also discuss the Gas market in relation to these types of markets. To begin to understand monopolies, we have researched several things. Why do they exist? What do they do, in response to the economy? Although, we don t see many monopolies now due to antitrust laws to prevent monopolies from forming, there are natural monopolies. There are several reasons why monopolies exist. These are known as barriers to entry. Scarce resources with one producer can limit the number of other firms joining the market as competition. Increasing returns to scale prevents smaller firms from entering an industry because as output rises average total cost falls. This in turn enables these producers to grow and tolerate the monopoly. This is now where a natural monopoly is formed. A single producer of an industry has a large cost advantage over other smaller firms, if they existed in the industry. A natural monopoly includes local water, gas and electricity providers. These ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

As of today having an apartment or even land in the city is considered as a status symbol. With the conversion of design concept to be more utilitarian, less classical ornamentations were incorporated in the design of early skyscrapers like those of most of the medieval architectures had did. However, the Wainwright building must be an exception and meanwhile an outstanding example of architectural innovations about functional aestheticism. Its Steel skeleton structure was cladded ... Essay on A P by John Updike A P John Updike, one of the most forward thinking and socially provocative writers of the 50s and 60s, is known for his incisive presentation of the quandaries of contemporary personal and social life. In his short story A P , Updike reveals a young man named Sammy in a society on the brink of a social revolution one in which a group of girls and an innocent cashier will unknowingly lead. The girls, despite their obvious fashion faux pas, carry themselves with a certain confidence and individuality that is rare in this society. Updike has Sammy refer to the other customers as sheep, pigs, house slaves, and even as having a fuselage revealing how empty these citizens are. The references to sheep are clear symbols for the conformity of the late 1950s and early 1960s. The trend (or revolution) towards non conformity is quickly approaching as the three girls are leaders of this new movement. Their wealth allows them to most likely live within a large city where the world moves much faster than in the rural regions and even in the suburbs. Whereas cities are always advancing in all aspects, the small communities, much like the one Sammy lives in, tend to hold onto tradition and more conservative values. The normal behavior for beach goers in this small town is, as Updike so blatantly puts it, the women generally put on a shirt or shorts or something before they get out of the car into the street. • 19. Analysis Of Upton Sinclair s The Jungle And The Harvest... Change is one of the most difficult things to do, it is always difficult to find what to change let alone how to change. However, one of the key messages a writer can convey to an audience is human compassion or empathy, to inspire action or change, and to bring about a deeper understanding of the world. Both writer Upton Sinclair s fiction writing The Jungle and the non fiction writing The Harvest Gypsies by John Steinbeck inform the reader of the difficulties faced by immigrants and migrant workers. However while the author of The Jungle , Upton Sinclair, uses descriptive details that show the plight of the immigrants, it is the deeper understanding of the difficulties faced from the families in John Steinbeck s The Harvest Gypsies that are more efficacious in evoking compassion and inspiring change. In 1906 Upton Sinclair worked side by side with immigrants in the meatpacking industry endeavoring to reveal what genuinely goes on within the factory walls. While doing so, Upton Sinclair uses details that evoke compassion while bringing out a deeper understanding of their world. In the fictional writing The Jungle, the author Upton Sinclair uses details such as ate as much raw blood as food , mile after mile and describes the immigrant s journey as an endless vista of pain and uncleanliness. • 20. The Causes Of The Triangle Fire Of 1911 A year after shirtwaist workers thought they had won a war, the Triangle Fire proved that it had merely been a battle. Under the Triangle Shirtwaist Company owners, Max Blanck and Isaac Harris, the men and women laboring to sew waist skirts were dissatisfied with their terrible working conditions and low wages. While working, the garment workers, made up of mostly poor Italian and Jewish women immigrants, would constantly be yelled at and called sexist slurs by bosses, and forced to work long, tiring hours for little pay (Argersinger 11). Tired of these conditions, the workers of the Triangle Shirtwaist Company in New York met in secret to form a union against the company in September 1909 (Argersinger 11). The union of the garment workers acquired the backing of both the International Ladies Garment Workers Union and the Women s Trade Union League, which inspired many other women, both working and upper classes, to follow the older unions lead and join the garment workers fight. Accordingly, thousands of garment workers launched an eleven week strike on November 22, 1909, which became known as the Uprising of Twenty Thousand (Argersinger 11 12). The strikes were successful because they accomplished their key goals, though this came at the cost of improving workplace safety which eventually led to the Triangle Fire of 1911.
