Essay on There is More to Vikings than Violence
History typically describes the Vikings as the fiercest, most brutal of all the barbarian groups that
invaded Europe. Historians agree that the Vikings were fierce, but was there more to them than that.
The word Viking has been used to identify people who lived in Sweden, Norway and Denmark in
early medieval times. In the language Old Norse, Viking means pirate. Sometimes they were known as
Northmen or Danes. The Vikings shared a similar heritage as the Saxons, a group of people who had
previously invaded Britain.
The Vikings sailed to other foreign countries because they weren t able to do many profitable things in
their own homes. The soil was infertile, and the land was rocky and covered in ice and snow for most
of the year. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Odin was the ?All father? of all the gods and was extremely wise. He exchanged one of his eyes for
wisdom. Other gods and goddesses included Loki (the trickster god), Freyja (goddess of love and
beauty) and Frey (god of fertility and Freyja?s brother).
England, Scotland and Wales were Christian countries, and when the Vikings resettled there, many of
them converted to Christianity. However, some remained faithful to their old religion at the same time.
This shows that the Vikings weren?t just killing machines that spent all their time murdering people
and raiding villages. They didn?t just think of war all the time and they actually spent time
worshipping gods like we still do today.
In addition, we can see that their culture was important, even down to the clothes they wore. Like
most people during that time, the Vikings mostly used wool to make their clothes. They had to dress
warmly because their home was very cold. They dyed the cloth with mineral and vegetable dyes of
red, green, yellow, brown and blue.
Viking men would wear a long woollen shirt and long cloth pants held up by a drawstring or sash. On
top of this was worn a sleeved jerkin or a three quarter coat with a belt. On their feet they would wear
socks and soft leather shoes or long leather boots. In battle, the Vikings would wear an iron helmet and
chain mail to protect themselves.
A Viking woman would wear a long linen dress. It could be either plain or pleated. Over the dress a

Louisa May Alcott Transcendentalism
Louisa May Alcott was born in 1832 in Germantown, Pennsylvania where she was taught by her
father who was a transcendentalist philosopher. She studied informally with other authors such as
Henry David Thoreau, Ralph Waldo Emerson and Theodore Parker. She has been publishing since
1851 poems, short stories, thrillers and juvenile tales. Her most popular novel was Little Women
published in 1868. From what I read in a biography, she transformed her father s story Fruitland to
make it look like the woman was the hero. It says in the article that she: makes her own creation out of
his Fruitland s story, feminizes it, making the mother the hero and the father the fool . I feel like
Louisa wanted to mock her father s story by telling her own that ... Show more content on

Mrs. Hope said that with their new beliefs it created tension between them, they turned away from the
family. For the family it was the Utopia, but the others outside were not ready to be in such place as
they say: The world was not ready for Utopia yet, and those who attempted to found it only got
laughed at for their pains. . Utopia is an ideal place or a visionary system of political or social
perfection. With the transcendental movement everyone has to follow a routine. They would all wake
up at the same time every day, take baths, eat at the same time, have meaningful conversations, get
back to work and finish work the evening came. Within the community there are beliefs so it is not
just one person thinking in a different way, but a group of people. It is a transcendental movement
because they choose to live and believe in different things than the rest of the world, but within the
community they all have to think the same way, someone cannot be self reliant on his own. From what
I understand, the children were allowed to do what they wanted, and members in the community were
allowed to express their feeling freely, in other community this not accepted if it is not intellectual or
spiritual thinking. People should not express their feelings freely and should speak in a very kind way,
one youth did the opposite in Fruitland. He said something like: Good morning

German and Polish Family History
Family history is something most people do not know much about. This is unfortunate because some
people do not or are unable to value their families past. Family history is important for many different
reasons. It can be used to meet family members a person never knew about and for educational
purpose. I was fortunate enough to have my grandparents still alive to tell me about their great
grandparents and grandparents. I never truly understand how interesting and important it is to know
about where my family came from until I did this project. My family consists of Polish and German
immigrants. The United States of America is also known ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Children were working as young as seven sometimes even younger. Children were also missing school
for work and working long debilitating hours. Children often worked in factories because they were
small and more children could fit intern this would lead to more work getting done. Children also had
smaller hands and this allowed them to fix machines if they were broken. However, machines are
dangerous and would sometimes injure or cut off a hand or finger of a child. In present day there are
many laws benefiting how many hours a child can work based on their age. The federal child labor
provisions, authorized by the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) of 1938, also known as the child labor
laws, were enacted to ensure that when young people work, the work is safe and does not jeopardize
their health, well being or educational opportunities. These provisions also provide limited exemptions
(U.S. Dept. of child labor). Child labor laws are now in place to protect children while they work.
Children can now work safely and receive an education at the same

Use of Literary Techniques by Jon Krakauer When Writing...
In the novel Into the Wild by Jon Krakauer, Krakauer tells the story of a Chris McCandless through
different points of view perceived from people close to him. Despite the fact the Krakauer did not
personally know Chris McCandless, Krakauer uses opinions from himself and others to help conclude
meaning and impact behindMcCandless s journey. Krakauer introduces events in the story in an order
such that it also introduces the significance behind them. These techniques help the reader conclude
the mystery behind Chris McCandless s journey. In the novel, Krakauer mentions that Chris
McCandless s changed his name to Alexander Supertramp, in which many of the people that he came
in contact with called him. In the novel Krakauer introduces ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Did the author consider that maybe these people shared exact or similar beliefs as McCandless?
However, I believe that this novel may have encouraged this type of behavior by presenting Chris
McCandless as an archetype for the idea of the way you want to. From the details told by Gallien,
Krakauer notes that Gallien was concerned that Alex only contained a ten pound bag of rice, a rifle
that was a .22 caliber and no ax, no bug dope, no snowshoes, and no compass that are essential to
survival in the wilderness. As analyzed in the dialogue between McCandless and Gallien, McCandless
appears as the type of person who believes that nothing is inevitable. McCandless s journey can be
seen as an act of bravery or idiotic depending on your opinion, but this story also teaches society
valuable lessons on life. The story McCandless s lifestyle persuades society to examine and observe
the world from a different person s perspective. It is believed in Krakauer s novel that McCandless
alienated himself from society because he was upset to learn that his father was a bigamist and others
believed that he went to find himself through exploration. His journey teaches the larger picture of life
such as living life in a way that makes you happy a message shown in journals written by
McCandless. Although he knew he was in danger he made no attempt to receive help and his journal
entries portray no evidence that

Disputed Territory of Israel and Palestine
The territory of Israel and Palestine has been disputed since 1947, and the conflict in this region
continues to this day. It has become an international conflict as it has spread outside the boundaries of
those nations involved, associating other countries such as Syria, Jordan and Egypt with the
contentions. Other countries have also become involved, with the aim of generating peace and
stability throughout the region, but as of yet, the unrest remains. The recent conflict originally arose
after world war two as a result of the UN (United Nations) allowing the division of the Palestine
region into Jewish and Arab sectors because of the migration of many Jews into the region, in 1930
alone 230,000 Jews moved into this location to avoid the negative attitudes and actions that were
brought about as a result of the Hitler Regime. The Palestinians believe that Israel belongs to them,
and that the UN s decision is wrong, whereas the Jews believe that parts of the land belong to them
because of the religiously important history related to the location, a movement known as Zionism
also encouraged Jews to move to Palestine as they saw it as the natural location to create a Jewish
state. One location that was proven in court to religiously belong to the Jews is the Sheik Jarrah
neighbourhood, where Jews are now being allowed to settle, with the other parts of the population
being forcefully evicted from their homes.
One location that is populated by Palestinians is that of the

Segregation In A Soldier s Play By Charles Fuller
A Soldier s Play by Charles Fuller which is set during 1944 on a segregated US Army Base called Fort
Neal in Louisiana. Captain Davenport a black man must solve the murder of Sergeant Waters on his
way to solving the murder must go through numerous obstacles including racism. The damage caused
by segregation makes brother despise another, makes empathy an impossibility, and blocks off the
ability to be cognizant of each other struggles.
Furthermore, the damage caused by the segregation of makes the same race, brothers in the same
cause hate each other. The damages contribute to the emotional distress which manifest itself into
hatred for other people in the same battle, that are fighting for a common goal. Segregation brings on
the worst characteristics that stereotypes people in category. Making individuals to be susceptible to

Examples Of Hedonic Pricing Models
Hedonic pricing models are tools used for estimating the value of a good or commodity based on the
premise that price is determined by the both the characteristics of the good being sold and any external
factors effecting it. Since the hedonic model calculates the value of a commodity by summing the
estimated values of its individual characteristics, it is best suited for use with commodities that are
extremely heterogeneous. One example of an extremely heterogeneous commodity that is well suited
to estimation using hedonic pricing models is the real estate market.
When we read about the sale of property in the US Real Estate market, for example that a home in
your neighborhood sold for $500,000, we gain limited information about the value of other properties
in the same area. This information is of limited use because every home is heterogeneous; the homes
are of different age, have different numbers of bedroom or bathrooms, or are located closer to public
services. By collecting sufficient samples, a hedonic model will allow us to turn these ... Show more

The purpose of this new model will be to more accurately determine which characteristic of a home
effect the sale price in Springfield so an accurate listing price can be estimated. Failure to generate an
appropriate listing price on the part of a real estate agency can lead to many negative effects. A house
that is priced too highly may not sell, while one that is priced too cheaply may sell quickly, but cause
the seller to take a loss and provide lower commissions. As a result, the considered model must be
able to consistently predict accurate list prices. To ensure the model is consistent technical issues such
as non linearity, heteroskedasticity, and multicollinearity must be considered so that the assumptions
of a multiple linear regression model are not

Risk Of Loss From Insurance Companies Essay
CHAPTER ONE
INTRODUCTION
1.1 Background of the study
In life, losses are sometimes unavoidable. People may become ill and lose income or savings to pay
off medical bills. Individuals or their relatives may die of illness or accidents. People s homes or other
property may suffer damage or theft. All these activities in the environment of man are subject to the
risk of loss from unforeseen events. To lessen this burden on humans, insurance companies are formed
and existed for decades with a common goal of pooling related risks and offering a cushion to the
unforeseen circumstances. To expand the coverage of life insurance products, life insurance
companies have recently begun offering complex policies with embedded options. Among them is the
participating policies with interest rate guarantees and surrender options. Bacinello (2001), defined
participating policy as a contract in which the policyholder is entitled to a share of the excess profit if
the realized interest rate during the insurance period is above the assumed interest rate. The policy
mechanism enables the insured to receive dividends (bonuses) in addition to the assured payments
implied by the guaranteed interest rate. Owing to the existence of the interest rate guarantee, the
policy has some features that resembles the European call options. This property is included in most
real life life insurance contracts in Ghana. There are numerous ways in which this profit sharing is
realized. The usual approach is to

Spanish Conquistador Research Paper
A Spanish conquistador is that of a conqueror, and explorer, especially one of Mexico and Peru. The
beginning of the 16th century was deemed the commencement of the Spanish conquistadors in which
was named The Age of Discovery , where the conquistadors of places such as Spain and Portugal
explored the new world and conquered various territories. Looking at military defenses, secrecy and
disinformation, financing and governance, and their way of life people can begin to grasp a
comprehension of the impact of the Spanish conquistadors. In searching for an understanding for the
ways of the Spaniards and their conquests the lessons to be learnt for existing populations can be
unraveled. The Spaniards had a high development of military defenses, enough that when conquering
native lands the use of European diseases and military strategies and tactics sliced through their walls.

Many are to believe that the slave trade originated from some of the Spanish conquistadors (i.e.

they learnt their way of life through following others. The chain connecting each conquistadors and

Disadvantages Of Driving
My journey began on a spring day, when my boyfriend at that time now my husband said that is the
right time to buy a car. Even though I was 23 at that moment, I had a feeling like I will be so
independent despite the fact that from the age of 18 years old I didn t live with my parents ,I traveled
in Europe by myself and I was already an independent person. In contrast with the US, in Russia,my
homeland country, the minimum age to drive a car is 18 years old, but there is no much need in a car
because the public transportation is cheaper and more convenient, the bus stations are close to every
location that you may need as well as if you drive a personal vehicle there is always an issue with the
lack of parking spots that make parking seem endless. On the top of disadvantages, is the stereotype
that the worst drivers in Russia are females. These were my reasons why I started to drive only at 23, a
perfect age, when I just moved to US. The thought that I will have a car, my own car, made me feel
very confident in myself. Thinking about my future first car made me so happy like I was a child
expecting for Christmas gifts, unwrapping the presents without any idea about what is inside of the
box. Unlike a child, I knew what is going to be inside of the box, something that suits my budget,
around 2 or 3 thousand. I was searching a car not for its shape, color or model but according my
budget. As every first car owner, I wanted a car that will be cheap in maintenance, with the

Building Positive Relationships
Introduction In today s world, creating positive relationships can get you a long way in life. Whether
that s knowing someone that can help you get a job or getting into a good college. Breaking positive
relationships can leave you with no one by your side when you are in need for help. Relationships are
built on integrity (Ellis, 2014, p.109). So when you break a promise with your boyfriend your
relationship may be strained (Ellis, 2014, p.109). Building positive relationships are not easy for most
people. I am one of these people because I am not really a people person. I don t feel comfortable
talking to people if I don t know them that well. This is one thing I need to work on to be successful in
my future.
Information
Powerful speaking is one good way to keep agreements or relationships. Think of this exercise as each
level as one rung on a ladder (Ellis, 2014, p.109). The lowest rung on the ladder is obligation which
means we feel passive and helpless to change anything (Ellis, 2014, p.109). For example, words that
are used during this level may include I should, he out to, someone better, they need to, I must, and I
had to (Ellis, 2104, p.109). Note: When we move to the next rung, we leave behind obligation and
advance to self responsibility (Ellis, 2014, p.109). This also occurs for the rest of the rungs. The next
rung is possibility which means we examine new options at this level (Ellis, 2014, p.109). Phrases you
might hear at this level is I might, I could,

Censorship In China Research Paper
China s Method of Censorship Online In an average, everyday American life after school or work they
would go home and do homework, or eat some kind of snack. If they have any special plans or a sport
so to speak, they would do those sorts of things, but if not this is usually when the technology starts to

is what it is like in one place, but it s slightly different in another. In China they might follow the same
rhyme or reason, but over all the internet, time is generally shortened. This is because of how limited
the internet is. China s internet is censored by a firewall the Chinese government put up. The Chinese
government blocks almost all communication sites, makes large companies censor their online content
if they want to be allowed on the Chinese internet, and is doing all this without the bulk of their

How Important Was the Role of Women During Wwi Essay
How important was the role of women during world war 1
The early rush of volunteers and later the conscription of men led to a shortage of manpower on the
home front. Women, already working in munitions factories were encouraged to take on jobs normally
done by men. This was the start of major social change. Before the war, women had been content to
stay at home to bring up the family and do domestic work. It was considered unbecoming for a woman
to work. During the war it was considered unpatriotic not to. Many changes came about as shown by
the quote from A. J. P Taylor English History Women became more independent. Women paid for

Other women joined the forestry corps and felled trees in shipbuilding and other industries. At the start
of the war almost the entire staff of the Glasgow Corporation tramways left to form a special battalion
of the Highland Light Infantry. Glasgow got its first females clippies in April 1915, followed more
slowly by Manchester and London. Women also became train drivers and greasers of the railways.
When the war was over most of the women left, or were forced to leave, the paid employment which
they had taken. Despite this the war had brought a significant change to their life s. They began to do
things the normally had never done before such as wear trousers and smoke in public. After the second
world war their daughter proved to be much tougher to remove from their jobs. The war gave women,
who weren t yet allowed to vote, the chance to show that they were equal to men. It forced many men
to change the way they regarded women. More people realized that women could make a contribution
in the workplace as well as at home. The first World War could be said to have begun the movement
for equal opportunities for men and women. In conclution the part played by women during WW1 was

Mythology in Zora Neale Hurston s Their Eyes Were...
Mythology is a key part of many of Zora Neale Hurston s short stories and novels. She researched the
stories of her home town and many other areas of the world. Hurston used this knowledge of myths
and stories to help her carry them on to later generations in a form that almost everybody could relate
to. Through out all of Zora Neale Hurston s stories, mythology has been a crucial keystone. Her novel,
Their Eyes Were Watching God, has been influenced by three different ancient myths: the myths of
Ezili Freda, Osiris and Isis, and Aphrodite and Adonis.
Janie s love for nature and turbulent relationships comes from the myth of the Haitian Goddess of
love, Ezili Freda. In the novel the main character, Janie, is deeply interested in love and ... Show more

But this relationship is cut short by Adonis getting attacked and castrated by a wild boar (Stine). Later,
Adonis bled to death (Stine). After her first three husbands Janie finally found a man she could be
with, Tea Cake. And going along with the myth of Aphrodite and Adonis, Janie must stand by and
watch as Tea Cake is attacked by an animal which in Hurston s story was a dog. She ends up having to
kill him and watch him die as did Aphrodite with Adonis.
One of the largest mythological influences on Their Eyes Were Watching God is the myth of Isis and
Osiris. Ishtar is a goddess associated with love and was very callous with the men that she loved.
(Pondrom 181). Ishtar fell in love with a God by the name of Tammuz and eventually ended up being
responsible for his death (Pondrom 181). She descended into the underworld and was successful in
bringing him back and she lived at peace (Pondrom 181). We see strong parallels to this myth in Their
Eyes Were Watching God. After multiple loveless relationships Janie fell in love with Tea Cake. She
eventually had to kill him because he had rabies. Later, she was able to restore him to her memory,
bringing her peace. Isis and Osiris were in love, but this relationship did not last long once Osiris was
killed (Pondrom 181). Osiris body was sent out on a ship and Isis goes to retrieve the body and is able
to partially restore him (Pondrom 181). Again, a myth with Isis losing her love and being able to

Bp Oil Spill Letter
The purpose for my letter is to express my concerns of the BP Deepwater Horizon oil spill that
occurred April 20, 2010. The BP Deepwater Horizon oil spill is the most recent oil spill and in all
probability the biggest catastrophic spill in the petroleum industry. The BP oil spill did not just affect
the company, it affected so much more; it had such a huge impact on the birds, whales, and the costal
habitats. Six years ago the Macondo oil well in the Gulf of Mexico blew out, causing an explosion. Oil
leaked from the broken well from mid April to mid July, nearly three months, causing more than 200
million gallons of crude oil to swim out onto the gulf shoreline. In addition to the oil, almost 2 million
gallons of virulent dispersant was used. The chemical dispersant did not lessen the amount of oil, but
broke it into smaller particles, leaving the Gulf of Mexico as a dead zone. My concerns are the
animals that are continuing to be harmed by the BP Deepwater Horizon oil spill. The Deepwater
Horizon oil spill was a deadly accident that caused a lot of harm; it destroyed Gulf fishing and tourism
industries. The spill injured 17 people and 11 people lost their lives. The marine ... Show more content

I write this letter to BP on behalf of myself and many citizens who are concerned. I list plausible
solutions so another oil spill does not occur. Investigators say one of the causes for the spill was that it
failed to be properly inspected. A way we can easily avoid a second oil spill is by continually and
constantly inspecting correctly. Schedule regular audits. Technology has advanced so much that BP
can add leak detection devices to the wells. BP should avoid places where there are a lot of fishermen
or places like the Gulf of Mexico just because there is a lot of reef that can be harmed again. We all
need to bring about a change; it can save us money, we can save our marine wildlife, and together we
can save our Mother

Andy Goldsworthy Analysis
In the second half of the twentieth century, artistic movements made pushes in order to move beyond
the traditional gallery space, changing the terrain of displaying and making art. An artist s body of
work no longer needed to reside inside of a gallery or art collection, and artists became free to explore
other ways of creating and displaying work. In this vein, Andy Goldsworthy works sculpturally with
natural media, and leaves the sculptures within a particular environment, often expecting his work to
decay quickly. Many times, the only evidence of any art he makes is the photographs taken during the
process. By more traditional standards, art of this nature is entirely contradictory. What is the point of
pieces of visual art that cannot ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Goldsworthy had constructed a dome made out of sticks at the edge of a tide pool during low tide,
right next to a river meeting an ocean. This is described further by Jeffrey L. Kosky in his book Arts of
Wonder. There Goldsworthy has gathered driftwood into a dome, with a hole at its top, an echo of the
vortex around which a whirlpool might spin or an eddy might form... before being released into the
rushing flow. (156). After finishing constructing the piece, Goldsworthy steps back to view his piece
and is confronted by a man walking by, who asks after some conversation, What do you expect will
happen?... Will it stay intact? , to which Goldsworthy responds, No it won t, absolutely not. (cite) The
tide begins to pull in, and some of the outer shell of sticks begin to float away. Shortly after though,
the entire piece is picked up at once by the tide, and begins to float above where it was built. After
this, the piece slowly floats away, down the river and away from the camera. Goldsworthy then

Sacrifice In The Industrial Revolution
Sacrifice in Manchester
Like a coin with two sides, world history is comprised of both positive and negative events. One such
historical juncture occurred with the eighteenth century Industrial Revolution which began in Great
Britain. This movement focused on transitioning manufacturing from simple hand production to more
complex methods utilizing machine tools, chemical manufacturing, iron production and use of steam
power. With its new factories and mills, Manchester was one city that was greatly impacted during this
innovative time. Although the Industrial Revolution led to several technological advancements which
allowed the economy of Manchester and other areas of the world to thrive, this movement negatively
impacted the city s vast working class by stifling their social mobility and quality of life as well as
degrading their living conditions. The Industrial Revolution created opportunities for cities to prosper
and as industrialization popularized, Manchester established a name for itself. As the enclosure
movement forced countless farmers out of work, people flocked to the city where newly built factories
offered a plethora of jobs. Manchester bustled with business and surrounding areas wanted to work
with them because, ... no part of England, not even London, presents such remarkable and attractive
features as Manchester, the Workshop of the World (9). If one was willing to look past the impact the
revolution was having on laborers, an outsider could not

armature boxing match in Miami, Florida
Coming from a background of professional heavyweight boxing, it is not surprising that Mickey
Rourke launched off in Hollywood primarily as an action man. He had several successes in his acting
stint before becoming a professional boxer.
After numerous injuries Rourke retired from sports and went back to acting, having earned acclaim for

the acting game playing a supporting role alongside Denzel Washington. His performance established
him to be a legitimate actor once again. In 2005, he landed the lead in the international blockbuster,
Sin City, directed by Robert Rodriguez. His role as a gritty, urban detective catapulted Rourke to the A
list of acting talent, and earned him a new generation of fans. He reprised his role in the 2014 sequel,
Sin City: A Dame to Kill For. In 2008, Rourke met more critical acclaim with his role as Randy The
Ram Robinson in the film, The Wrestler. He won a golden globe for his performance, and was
nominated along with co star, Marisa Tomei for an Academy Award. It has been a long, slow climb
back from his 80 s career dive, but Rourke managed to make a comeback as a prominent actor, having
appearance in several action and thriller films since his return to the silver screen, including Iron Man

Cisco Case Study Essay
CASE QUESTIONS – CISCO 1a. How did Cisco find itself in trouble with regard to its intended IT
prior to Brad Boston s arrival? Prior to his arrival, CISCO had a decentralized approach to IT
spending. Independent business groups were making decisions in fuctional silos. Each group their own
funds for IT, therefore, redundant applications such as CRM systems were created. This was a global
issue as well as a localized issue. The Cisco philosophy regarding IT was simple: As long as someone
was willing to pay for it, the IT department would work on whatever process/project specified. This is
not only a waste of money, but it also creates problems when trying to work across teams. If two
teams use two different processes to come ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In 1993, when Peter Solvik took over as CIO of Cisco, he reallocated the IT budget to each individual
department. He also took the power away from an IT steering committee and gave it to departments.

them to communicate with other departments in order to achieve similar objectives and goals. 2a.

Demographic Transition Paper
2,000 years ago the world, in terms of population, was only the size of the United States of America,
300 million people. Today, the world s population is at seven billion and counting. If the population
rose at a steady rate from year 0, we would ve reached 1 billion people by about 210 A.D. This,
however, was not the case. We reached 1 billion people in 1800 A.D, which means that there had to be
very odd growth periods for the population as a whole REWORD ME. From 0 to 1000 A.D. the
population only rose about 10 million people, and well into the second millennium, [the population]
grew less than 0.1 percent each year [1]. However, from the year 1800, with 1 billion people
worldwide, to 1930, the world gained another billion people. We then reached three billion people in
1960, five billion in 1987, and 7 billion in 2013. One can clearly see that once we entered the 19th
century, the world s population started growing like a 14 year old boy going through puberty; rapidly,
and without any warning. One thing that can explain this growth is called the Demographic
Transition. The Demographic Transition is a theory that explains the growth.

Human Cloning Persuasive Research Paper
Since March 1997, the birth of a cloned sheep, named Dolly, has caused a great sensation around the
world. Though it was not the first time that the experiment using cloning succeeded, the reason why
Dolly shocked the world was that she was the first clone from a cell of an adult mammal, something
previously thought to be impossible. This meant that the possibility of cloaning human beings was
increased. For fear of realizing human cloning, a lot of countries have taken necessary measures to
regulate the study of it. Some people, such as scientists in this field and certain infertile couples, are
now arguing against banning it. But I think we should ban human cloning because it has a possibility
to reduce the value of our life, to take away ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ian Wilmut demands that the study of it not to be banned, emphasizing that the technology would be
useful for the development of treatment for genetic diseases and of mass production of good cattle
which will be surely needed in the future when population is larger than today (Otsuka 1). Meanwhile,
he opposes human cloning for moral reasons. Human cloning will make family system even worse
than it is at the present. Because cloning needs only one DNA, and it does not matter whether a man
or a woman offers it, we can easily imagine that there will be much more single parent families. If a
man wants to have a baby by himself, he can have one, offering his DNA to a surrogate mother. In
other words, children conceived by cloning cannot have both blood related father and mother. Even if
it is okay for a parent, it is very hard for the child. We may anticipate that juvenile delinquents would

Peer Pressure In The Breakfast Club
By definition, peer pressure is described as social pressure by members of one s peer group to take a
certain action, adopt certain values, or otherwise confirm in order to be accepted. Considering peer
pressure is something that everyone experiences, whether they wish to admit it or not, there are
numerous definitions for it; especially since it affects everyone so differently.
Examples of this are everywhere, like movies or books. In the movie The Breakfast Club there s a
character for every clique you d usually see in a high school, which is where the setting of the movie
takes place. You have the jock, the brainiac, the cool one, the daddy s girl and the loser. In a certain
scene, they all get emotionally close to each other and talked ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

In this movie, an overprotective dad takes it a little too far when he finds out that his son s first day of
school is a field trip to the drop off. He swims after his son, Nemo, to get him and keep him safe.
However, when Marlin, Nemo s dad, gets there he freaks out completely. After arguing with his son
about it, Nemo swims off and is under the butt which is known to us as a boat. Tempting his father,
Nemo touched the butt and does that because his friends didn t think he had it in him. Nemo was peer
pressured into touching the butt by his friends which caused him to be captured in the end. Peer
pressure doesn t end in happy endings for most people. Influence from one s peer group is another
definition of peer pressure. A person s group will always influence them but that s why people always
say choose your friends carefully. Most people deal with peer pressure by giving into it or just not
listening to their peers at all and doing their own thing.
Peer pressure is a bit of a problem more because of things like social media and the generation and
how they re being taught to go about it. It affects people differently every time it happens, which goes
along with the reason there are so many different definitions for it according to different people. There
s a quote that goes It s Better to walk alone than with a crowd going in the wrong direction. This goes
along with the entire essay and some definitions because our elders

Cultural Differences Between Hofstede s Six Dimensions
Cultural Differences in Hofstede s Six Dimensions
In a global economy, the way employees interact within the workplace is critical to the way that
business is conducted and is ultimately successful. Leaders and managers who interact within the
global setting need to understand differences between each person s culture, regardless of whether or
not the interaction is amongst employees or clients. These differences can include mannerisms or
methods of etiquette that may seem strange or unique to those from a different cultural setting. Other
differences might include the way that organizations in different nations may or may not be willing to
do business or work with other groups based on race, gender, ethnicity, sex, or religion. With a utility
such as Geert Hofstede s Six Dimensions, one can gain insight into the differences between countries
the world over regarding these cultural differences (Hofstede).
Hofstede s Six Dimensions Geert Hofstede is a famous social scientist that was born in Haarlem,
Netherlands in 1928 (Hofstede, 2015). He has over 240 major publications addressing the different
dimensions related to leadership and management within the context of diverse national cultures
(Hofstede). His work has allowed individuals to do their own research regarding the cultural
infrastructure of other nations outside of their own. The six dimensions that Hofstede uses to analyze
these differences are known as; power distance, individualism, masculinity,

Ilya Kaminsky s We Lived Happily During The War
I think it s fair to say that a majority of people in the United States get up every morning with only
miniscule problems to worry about. We are not affected by a crashing economy. We don t have mass
numbers of people starving to the point where they are skin and bone. We don t deal with people
trying to kill us for having different religious views as them. We don t have a multitude of corrupt
groups fighting for power over our nation. We don t wake up surrounded by damages of the atrocities
caused by extremist s bombs. Other countries, however, are not this fortunate, and Ilya Kaminsky s
poem, We Lived Happily During the War does an excellent job of pointing this out.
It s clear when reading this poem, the main theme of it is that there are people in this world who are
not nearly as fortunate as us. We feel bad for them and make a big deal out of how horrible their
situation is. Yet, we don t actually go out and do anything worthwhile about it for fear of losing our
own comforting bubble of safety.
The idea of us feeling bad for those in direr situations and crying for something to be done appears
right at the beginning of the poem when it says, And when they bombed other people s houses, we
protested, (Ilya Kaminsky, 1 and 2). This quote is very apparently true to us. The news, for several
years now, has been full of protests saying that we need to offer help to people in war stricken and
terrorist filled countries. This quote could also point out or stand for more

  • 2. Essay on There is More to Vikings than Violence History typically describes the Vikings as the fiercest, most brutal of all the barbarian groups that invaded Europe. Historians agree that the Vikings were fierce, but was there more to them than that. The word Viking has been used to identify people who lived in Sweden, Norway and Denmark in early medieval times. In the language Old Norse, Viking means pirate. Sometimes they were known as Northmen or Danes. The Vikings shared a similar heritage as the Saxons, a group of people who had previously invaded Britain. The Vikings sailed to other foreign countries because they weren t able to do many profitable things in their own homes. The soil was infertile, and the land was rocky and covered in ice and snow for most of the year. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Odin was the ?All father? of all the gods and was extremely wise. He exchanged one of his eyes for wisdom. Other gods and goddesses included Loki (the trickster god), Freyja (goddess of love and beauty) and Frey (god of fertility and Freyja?s brother). England, Scotland and Wales were Christian countries, and when the Vikings resettled there, many of them converted to Christianity. However, some remained faithful to their old religion at the same time. This shows that the Vikings weren?t just killing machines that spent all their time murdering people and raiding villages. They didn?t just think of war all the time and they actually spent time worshipping gods like we still do today. In addition, we can see that their culture was important, even down to the clothes they wore. Like most people during that time, the Vikings mostly used wool to make their clothes. They had to dress warmly because their home was very cold. They dyed the cloth with mineral and vegetable dyes of red, green, yellow, brown and blue. Viking men would wear a long woollen shirt and long cloth pants held up by a drawstring or sash. On top of this was worn a sleeved jerkin or a three quarter coat with a belt. On their feet they would wear socks and soft leather shoes or long leather boots. In battle, the Vikings would wear an iron helmet and chain mail to protect themselves. A Viking woman would wear a long linen dress. It could be either plain or pleated. Over the dress a long woolen ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Louisa May Alcott Transcendentalism Louisa May Alcott was born in 1832 in Germantown, Pennsylvania where she was taught by her father who was a transcendentalist philosopher. She studied informally with other authors such as Henry David Thoreau, Ralph Waldo Emerson and Theodore Parker. She has been publishing since 1851 poems, short stories, thrillers and juvenile tales. Her most popular novel was Little Women published in 1868. From what I read in a biography, she transformed her father s story Fruitland to make it look like the woman was the hero. It says in the article that she: makes her own creation out of his Fruitland s story, feminizes it, making the mother the hero and the father the fool . I feel like Louisa wanted to mock her father s story by telling her own that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Mrs. Hope said that with their new beliefs it created tension between them, they turned away from the family. For the family it was the Utopia, but the others outside were not ready to be in such place as they say: The world was not ready for Utopia yet, and those who attempted to found it only got laughed at for their pains. . Utopia is an ideal place or a visionary system of political or social perfection. With the transcendental movement everyone has to follow a routine. They would all wake up at the same time every day, take baths, eat at the same time, have meaningful conversations, get back to work and finish work the evening came. Within the community there are beliefs so it is not just one person thinking in a different way, but a group of people. It is a transcendental movement because they choose to live and believe in different things than the rest of the world, but within the community they all have to think the same way, someone cannot be self reliant on his own. From what I understand, the children were allowed to do what they wanted, and members in the community were allowed to express their feeling freely, in other community this not accepted if it is not intellectual or spiritual thinking. People should not express their feelings freely and should speak in a very kind way, one youth did the opposite in Fruitland. He said something like: Good morning ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Polish Family History Lauren Kubler Professor Johnson SOSC 101 10 4 December 2014 German and Polish Family History Family history is something most people do not know much about. This is unfortunate because some people do not or are unable to value their families past. Family history is important for many different reasons. It can be used to meet family members a person never knew about and for educational purpose. I was fortunate enough to have my grandparents still alive to tell me about their great grandparents and grandparents. I never truly understand how interesting and important it is to know about where my family came from until I did this project. My family consists of Polish and German immigrants. Children were also missing school for work and working long debilitating hours. Children often worked in factories because they were small and more children could fit intern this would lead to more work getting done. Children also had smaller hands and this allowed them to fix machines if they were broken. However, machines are dangerous and would sometimes injure or cut off a hand or finger of a child. In present day there are many laws benefiting how many hours a child can work based on their age. The federal child labor provisions, authorized by the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) of 1938, also known as the child labor laws, were enacted to ensure that when young people work, the work is safe and does not jeopardize their health, well being or educational opportunities. These provisions also provide limited exemptions (U.S. Dept. of child labor). Child labor laws are now in place to protect children while they work. • 5. Use of Literary Techniques by Jon Krakauer When Writing... In the novel Into the Wild by Jon Krakauer, Krakauer tells the story of a Chris McCandless through different points of view perceived from people close to him. Despite the fact the Krakauer did not personally know Chris McCandless, Krakauer uses opinions from himself and others to help conclude meaning and impact behindMcCandless s journey. Krakauer introduces events in the story in an order such that it also introduces the significance behind them. These techniques help the reader conclude the mystery behind Chris McCandless s journey. In the novel, Krakauer mentions that Chris McCandless s changed his name to Alexander Supertramp, in which many of the people that he came in contact with called him. However, I believe that this novel may have encouraged this type of behavior by presenting Chris McCandless as an archetype for the idea of the way you want to. From the details told by Gallien, Krakauer notes that Gallien was concerned that Alex only contained a ten pound bag of rice, a rifle that was a .22 caliber and no ax, no bug dope, no snowshoes, and no compass that are essential to survival in the wilderness. As analyzed in the dialogue between McCandless and Gallien, McCandless appears as the type of person who believes that nothing is inevitable. McCandless s journey can be seen as an act of bravery or idiotic depending on your opinion, but this story also teaches society valuable lessons on life. The story McCandless s lifestyle persuades society to examine and observe the world from a different person s perspective. It is believed in Krakauer s novel that McCandless alienated himself from society because he was upset to learn that his father was a bigamist and others believed that he went to find himself through exploration. His journey teaches the larger picture of life such as living life in a way that makes you happy a message shown in journals written by McCandless. • 6. Disputed Territory of Israel and Palestine The territory of Israel and Palestine has been disputed since 1947, and the conflict in this region continues to this day. It has become an international conflict as it has spread outside the boundaries of those nations involved, associating other countries such as Syria, Jordan and Egypt with the contentions. Other countries have also become involved, with the aim of generating peace and stability throughout the region, but as of yet, the unrest remains. The recent conflict originally arose after world war two as a result of the UN (United Nations) allowing the division of the Palestine region into Jewish and Arab sectors because of the migration of many Jews into the region, in 1930 alone 230,000 Jews moved into this location to avoid the negative attitudes and actions that were brought about as a result of the Hitler Regime. The Palestinians believe that Israel belongs to them, and that the UN s decision is wrong, whereas the Jews believe that parts of the land belong to them because of the religiously important history related to the location, a movement known as Zionism also encouraged Jews to move to Palestine as they saw it as the natural location to create a Jewish state. One location that was proven in court to religiously belong to the Jews is the Sheik Jarrah neighbourhood, where Jews are now being allowed to settle, with the other parts of the population being forcefully evicted from their homes. Examples Of Hedonic Pricing Models Hedonic pricing models are tools used for estimating the value of a good or commodity based on the premise that price is determined by the both the characteristics of the good being sold and any external factors effecting it. Since the hedonic model calculates the value of a commodity by summing the estimated values of its individual characteristics, it is best suited for use with commodities that are extremely heterogeneous. One example of an extremely heterogeneous commodity that is well suited to estimation using hedonic pricing models is the real estate market. When we read about the sale of property in the US Real Estate market, for example that a home in your neighborhood sold for $500,000, we gain limited information about the value of other properties in the same area. This information is of limited use because every home is heterogeneous; the homes are of different age, have different numbers of bedroom or bathrooms, or are located closer to public services. • 9. Risk Of Loss From Insurance Companies Essay CHAPTER ONE INTRODUCTION 1.1 Background of the study In life, losses are sometimes unavoidable. People may become ill and lose income or savings to pay off medical bills. Individuals or their relatives may die of illness or accidents. People s homes or other property may suffer damage or theft. All these activities in the environment of man are subject to the risk of loss from unforeseen events. To lessen this burden on humans, insurance companies are formed and existed for decades with a common goal of pooling related risks and offering a cushion to the unforeseen circumstances. To expand the coverage of life insurance products, life insurance companies have recently begun offering complex policies with embedded options. Among them is the participating policies with interest rate guarantees and surrender options. Bacinello (2001), defined participating policy as a contract in which the policyholder is entitled to a share of the excess profit if the realized interest rate during the insurance period is above the assumed interest rate. The policy mechanism enables the insured to receive dividends (bonuses) in addition to the assured payments implied by the guaranteed interest rate. Owing to the existence of the interest rate guarantee, the policy has some features that resembles the European call options. This property is included in most real life life insurance contracts in Ghana. There are numerous ways in which this profit sharing is realized. The usual approach is to ... • 13. Disadvantages Of Driving My journey began on a spring day, when my boyfriend at that time now my husband said that is the right time to buy a car. Even though I was 23 at that moment, I had a feeling like I will be so independent despite the fact that from the age of 18 years old I didn t live with my parents ,I traveled in Europe by myself and I was already an independent person. In contrast with the US, in Russia,my homeland country, the minimum age to drive a car is 18 years old, but there is no much need in a car because the public transportation is cheaper and more convenient, the bus stations are close to every location that you may need as well as if you drive a personal vehicle there is always an issue with the lack of parking spots that make parking seem endless. On the top of disadvantages, is the stereotype that the worst drivers in Russia are females. These were my reasons why I started to drive only at 23, a perfect age, when I just moved to US. The thought that I will have a car, my own car, made me feel very confident in myself. Thinking about my future first car made me so happy like I was a child expecting for Christmas gifts, unwrapping the presents without any idea about what is inside of the box. Unlike a child, I knew what is going to be inside of the box, something that suits my budget, around 2 or 3 thousand. I was searching a car not for its shape, color or model but according my budget. • 15. Building Positive Relationships Introduction In today s world, creating positive relationships can get you a long way in life. Whether that s knowing someone that can help you get a job or getting into a good college. Breaking positive relationships can leave you with no one by your side when you are in need for help. Relationships are built on integrity (Ellis, 2014, p.109). So when you break a promise with your boyfriend your relationship may be strained (Ellis, 2014, p.109). Building positive relationships are not easy for most people. I am one of these people because I am not really a people person. I don t feel comfortable talking to people if I don t know them that well. This is one thing I need to work on to be successful in my future. Information Powerful speaking is one good way to keep agreements or relationships. Think of this exercise as each level as one rung on a ladder (Ellis, 2014, p.109). The lowest rung on the ladder is obligation which means we feel passive and helpless to change anything (Ellis, 2014, p.109). For example, words that are used during this level may include I should, he out to, someone better, they need to, I must, and I had to (Ellis, 2104, p.109). Note: When we move to the next rung, we leave behind obligation and advance to self responsibility (Ellis, 2014, p.109). This also occurs for the rest of the rungs. The next rung is possibility which means we examine new options at this level (Ellis, 2014, p.109). Phrases you might hear at this level is I might, I could, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Censorship In China Research Paper China s Method of Censorship Online In an average, everyday American life after school or work they would go home and do homework, or eat some kind of snack. If they have any special plans or a sport so to speak, they would do those sorts of things, but if not this is usually when the technology starts to come into play. Laptops, computers, tablets, phones, Ipods. All these things have access to the internet, better yet, they thrive on it. All of these electronic devices almost have no use without the internet. All this information and knowledge, uncensored and completely open to the public eye, this is what it is like in one place, but it s slightly different in another. In China they might follow the same rhyme or reason, but over all the internet, time is generally shortened. This is because of how limited the internet is. China s internet is censored by a firewall the Chinese government put up. The Chinese government blocks almost all communication sites, makes large companies censor their online content if they want to be allowed on the Chinese internet, and is doing all this without the bulk of their population finding out. How Important Was the Role of Women During Wwi Essay How important was the role of women during world war 1 The early rush of volunteers and later the conscription of men led to a shortage of manpower on the home front. Women, already working in munitions factories were encouraged to take on jobs normally done by men. This was the start of major social change. Before the war, women had been content to stay at home to bring up the family and do domestic work. It was considered unbecoming for a woman to work. During the war it was considered unpatriotic not to. Many changes came about as shown by the quote from A. J. P Taylor English History Women became more independent. • 21. Mythology in Zora Neale Hurston s Their Eyes Were... Mythology is a key part of many of Zora Neale Hurston s short stories and novels. She researched the stories of her home town and many other areas of the world. Hurston used this knowledge of myths and stories to help her carry them on to later generations in a form that almost everybody could relate to. Through out all of Zora Neale Hurston s stories, mythology has been a crucial keystone. Her novel, Their Eyes Were Watching God, has been influenced by three different ancient myths: the myths of Ezili Freda, Osiris and Isis, and Aphrodite and Adonis. Janie s love for nature and turbulent relationships comes from the myth of the Haitian Goddess of love, Ezili Freda. In the novel the main character, Janie, is deeply interested in love and ... She ends up having to kill him and watch him die as did Aphrodite with Adonis. One of the largest mythological influences on Their Eyes Were Watching God is the myth of Isis and Osiris. Ishtar is a goddess associated with love and was very callous with the men that she loved. (Pondrom 181). Ishtar fell in love with a God by the name of Tammuz and eventually ended up being responsible for his death (Pondrom 181). She descended into the underworld and was successful in bringing him back and she lived at peace (Pondrom 181). We see strong parallels to this myth in Their Eyes Were Watching God. After multiple loveless relationships Janie fell in love with Tea Cake. She eventually had to kill him because he had rabies. Later, she was able to restore him to her memory, bringing her peace. Isis and Osiris were in love, but this relationship did not last long once Osiris was killed (Pondrom 181). The BP Deepwater Horizon oil spill is the most recent oil spill and in all probability the biggest catastrophic spill in the petroleum industry. The BP oil spill did not just affect the company, it affected so much more; it had such a huge impact on the birds, whales, and the costal habitats. Six years ago the Macondo oil well in the Gulf of Mexico blew out, causing an explosion. Oil leaked from the broken well from mid April to mid July, nearly three months, causing more than 200 million gallons of crude oil to swim out onto the gulf shoreline. In addition to the oil, almost 2 million gallons of virulent dispersant was used. The chemical dispersant did not lessen the amount of oil, but broke it into smaller particles, leaving the Gulf of Mexico as a dead zone. My concerns are the animals that are continuing to be harmed by the BP Deepwater Horizon oil spill.
