Apple Computer Case Analysis
APPLE COMPUTER CASE ANALYSIS After the return of Steve Jobs at Apple Computer many
changes happened which finally brought the company back to profitability. However Apple holds a
market share of only 3.48 percent among its six strongest competitors. The fact is that today the PC
market is a mature market and only the strong survive. In Exhibit 1 is shown how the PC market has
been shared among the most valuable players and how Apple s share has decreased by more than half
during five years time. Under the current situation the only way for a company to increase its market
share is to take customers away from the competition. So the question is what Apple has to do in order
to gain more market share. First of all let ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
5. Return on Total Assets is improving by 2002 but is still lower than the competition, which means
that the total investment on Apple has not yet attributed what is expected. Though we have to focus on
how can Apple increase its market share, in other words how they can persuade the customers to
switch from Windows to MAC OS. Since as stated in the case study if Apple took 1% of Windows
users to switch, Apple s market share would increase by 20 35%. What are the reasons preventing
people from switching from Windows to Mac? The main reason is the compatibility between these
operating systems. Apple has isolated itself from the market, as they focus on developing both
hardware and software, which are compatible only with one another . That explains also in a great
value the low profitability ratios referred above. Apple spends too much on research and development
and also on manufacturing because their products are not compatible with the competition. So Apple
has to take a strategic step forward and develop an operational system which will be fully compatible
with Windows. A Mac OS in which users will be able to run any Microsoft program. In that way
Apple customers will maintain their Image and Style but also will not be limited from using any
software on the market. In such a case there may be an

They have adequate knowledge about camping. Therefore, they know which activities are appropriate
for campers of all ages. Additionally, they are aware of things that boost the confidence of youths,
kids, and adult campers during these periods. If you consider their opinions, you will succeed in
organizing a perfect summer camp.
6. Consider the Size of the CampSite The size of the campsite can also determine the type of summer
camp activities. If the place is spacious, you can engage in numerous activities, including horse riding
and other racing competitions. However, if the compound is not big, the activities will be limited to
the space available. Therefore, if you are planning to hold multiple activities, you should hire a large
compound that will accommodate all the campers.
7. Theme of the Summer Camp
In every event organized by campers, it has a theme. It is the topic that guides all the programs of the
event. For instance, the theme of a summer camp can be Youth Enlightenment. Therefore, the
activities should match effectively with the theme of the event. If it is a youth affair, the activities
carried out by the youths during the camping session should enlighten and empower

The International Business World Before You Enter It For...
When expanding a particular business internationally, you need to have a clear understanding of the
international business world before you enter it for great business success in the country of Hong
Kong. Hong Kong will definitely be investigated towards as to find out whether it is or is not a
desirable and appropriate location for the expansion of Infinite Health. Final decisions will then be
based on cultural issues, beliefs and ease of doing business in this particular country.
1.0 Essential Information when visiting Hong Kong
2.1 Location and Time Zones
Hong Kong is officially a part of China yet has their own legal system which is completely different to
China with their own currency along with their own laws. From Australia there is 5716 kilometres to
Hong Kong, in saying this Hong Kong is moderately north west from Australia meaning shipping
shouldn t take any longer than 10 12 business days to arrive, considering whether conditions give or
take a couple of days. Hong Kong and Australia are on the same time zones which coincide with each
other. Thus allowing the same amount of shipping time as you would from Australia to international
with the same time zones.
2.2 Population
According to Countrymeters.com the current 2015 population of Hong Kong stands at 6581.8 people
per square kilometre as of March 2015. With growing statistics each day the expected increase of
population is 130 persons daily. Hong Kong is currently 1104 km squared. During 2015 Hong Kong s

Alfie Kohn s The Case Against Grades
Have you ever had a bad experience with grades? Do grades create a preference for the easiest task?
In The Case Against Grades Alfie Kohn argues why grades should be completely erased out of the

grades tend to reduce the quality of students thinking . I disagree with him, when he says that Grades

Daphnia Magna Experiment
Methods: To begin the experiment, we took a single Daphnia magna from the unused tank to run
control tests with distilled water on the untampered heart rate of the species. The species was placed
on a concave slide with a new drop of water on it. It was given 2 minutes of recovery time to adjust to
its new environment; then, the heart rate was studied by intervals of 15 seconds to find beats per
minute by multiplying the number of beats in 15 seconds by 4. The Daphnia magna was studied under
a light microscope with 40x total magnification. After each round of data collection, the water was
absorbed with a Kimwipe so a new water drop could be placed on the species. The same Daphnia
magna was used for six rounds of control experiments. After

Climate Change Of The California Valley Oak ( Quercus...
Habitat shift is another strategy used by plants to evade climate change. The term evade may be more
relevant here owing to the fact that with habitat shift a plant can translocate to a different area.
Typically with habitat shift a plant will move to a different habitat, as implied by the name. An
example of this can be seen in the California Valley Oak (Quercus lobata), which is very sensitive to
climate change. This species when exposed to elevated temperatures shifts itself northward and tends
to move from a largely terrestrial habitat to the edges of water sources. This is not foolproof because
their new habitat presents a dead end for the species. The rapidly increasing climate will eventually
kill the Quercus lobata (McLaughlin and Zavaleta 2012). These shifts can be even more drastic. For
example, one paper used computer models to observe climate change in Germany. Based off of
predicted models the paper inferred that many species would begin shifting to the Iberian Peninsula in
order to avoid climate change (Bergmann et al. 2009). Again, this shift could later become an issue as
with the Quercus lobata because of the dead end scenario. The dead end scenario is not the only
limitation associated with habitat shifts. Other limitations include the plants intrinsic abilities to move
these distances. It will be discussed further a little later in the paper, but if a plant has poor dispersal
mechanisms than it wont be able to escape climate change. Furthermore, if a

Literary Devices In Women From The Bride

and when she was freshly bathed, put on her the red sari. I had worn at my own wedding. Its rich
heavy folds made her look slender than she was, made her look like a child. (36)
The phrases used by Markandaya i.e. freshly bathed and rich heavy folds bring to the mind of readers
a wonderful imaginative insight of married woman. She plays with literary devices i.e. imagery,
personification, simile, metaphor, etc. and creates the graphic presentation of a bride. This is the
artistic gift of imaginative power along with the poetic language which Markandaya through her

drought striked the village, there was human suffering, desperation, sorrow, etc. everywhere, The
drought continued until we lost count of the time. Day after day the pitiless sun blazed down

Culture Is The Greatest Human Invention
Culture is the learned values, beliefs, and rules of conduct that are shared to some extent by the
members of a society that govern their behavior with one another. It is the greatest human invention, it
is the ultimate definition of what, where, and how we call a place our home. In this essay I will discuss
the characteristics, process, and elements within culture, as well as an in depth look into the different
categories and the topic of race within culture. A few basic components of culture are cognitive
process, behavior, and material creations. Cognitive processes are the basic outline or ground work by
which people think, reason, and give value. These frameworks for thought are learned by
enculturation in both formal and informal situations throughout their lives. We cannot view the
cognitive processes that create a value system within an individual s mind, but we can view the
outcome... (28 29). this means that while we cannot view the creation of values in a culture, we can
witness the embodiment of these learned perspectives. When an individual s actions reflect their
cognitive process, they re presenting their learned behavior. Behavior is another component of culture
because everything from the way we use our bodies to how we interact in social or secluded situations
is a result from how and where we were raised. Finally, material creations help define culture because
objects like art, artifacts or features often reflect the creator s cultural thoughts,

Analysis Of The Book Wonderland, And Its Sequel
In analyzing Lewis Carroll s works Alice s Adventures in Wonderland, and its sequel, Through the
Looking Glass, studying the the illustrations is of as great importance as examining the text that they
depict. From the first sentence of Wonderland, Carroll exhibits a concern for illustrations and their
role regarding storytelling in writing, what is the use of a book , thought Alice, without pictures,
(Carroll 7). As Carroll seems to have intended, the words which comprise Wonderland and Looking
Glass are only a one facet in the reader s interpretation of the two works. Equally important as the
written text to the experience of Wonderland and Looking Glass House is illustration, and by
extension different artists interpretations of these fantastical worlds. Interpreting the Alice stories
through illustration first was Carroll himself, further increasing the interest of the relation between
image and text as well as the question of the importance of pictures to their stories. Evidently Carroll
intended the text of Alice s adventures to be accompanied with images for readers, even initially
putting in the time and effort himself to ensure their illustration, demonstrating the great concern he
had for the relationship between the text of a story and its visual depiction. However, for the first
official publication of Wonderland, Carroll enlisted artist John Tenniel to create entirely new
illustrations for the story. These new illustrations by Tenniel have become iconic

Hinduism And The Indian Culture
After reading the article, I think rituals have some basic structures of meaning, and there are number
of ways to show that rituals are meaningful. In the following thesis I choose Hinduism as an example
to show how rituals are meaningful, how it relates to the living context of the Indian people, how the
Indians enact the Hindu rituals, and so on.
India is a country full of mysteries and differences. It has a long history, a profound yet unique culture,
with diversified nationalities, races, religions, languages and a huge population. The pursuit of
secularism and inveteracy of sectarianism have brought huge influence to the Indian society. As the
mainstream culture in India, Hinduism plays an important role in the Indian society and has dominated
almost 2000 years of its history. Although in the following years since, the Indian culture gradually
becomes a combination of different races, religions and languages, Hinduism still remains to be the
key to dig into the development of the culture and society of India.
First, the Hindu s worship of the imperishability of gods is the spiritual power for the Indians faith and
persistence in overcoming difficulties and obstacles in the long history of development.
There are numerous gods in Hinduism, in which the most important ones including the Creator
Brahma, the Preserver Vishnu and the Destroyer Siva. Brahma created the earth, the mortal world and
the heaven, Vishnu safeguards the world and preserves the order and peace in

Jones Blair Case
Problem/Issue
Jones Blair is a paint company headquartered in Dallas, Texas that sells architectural paint. Jones Blair
markets its paint to fifty counties in Texas, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Louisiana, and eleven county
Dallas Fort Worth (DFW) metropolitan areas. Jones Blair has branded itself as having a high end paint
product. Increased R D, material, and labor cost have allowed Jones Blair to have the highest price
among competitors in its service area and still obtain a great amount of business. Jones Blair is
focused on providing architectural paint to a market that is fifty percent segmented, which half
consists of do it yourself consumers and the other fifty percent spilt among professional painters and
government contracts. Jones Blair has enjoyed dollar sales rising at an annual rate of four percent over
the past five years. Even though Jones Blair has enjoyed a successful rise in dollar sales, it has seen a
decline in the gallon volumes in DFW areas due to a rise in competition. Jones Blair is aware that it is
approaching the threshold in its prices. Jones Blair is afraid that once the threshold price is reached,
then the decline in volume sales will lead to Jones Blair unsuccessfully meeting its sales margins.
Jones Blair needs to determine how and where to adjust marketing efforts to raise sales volume
amounts in the DFW and Non DFW areas. Jones Blair currently spends approximately three percent of

Essay On Translocation To Mitochondria
In the critical experiment for this grant proposal, we observed that DJ 1 Cys 106 SO3 (Figs. 3, 4;
Table 1) contributes to DJ 1 translocation to mitochondria (Fig. 9). Interestingly, we found that first,
NHEJ 1 is also shifted to these organelles and second, it interacts with DJ 1 in mitochondria (Fig. 7).
We hypothesize that posttranslational modifications of DJ 1 lead to its interaction with NHEJ 1 in
these organelles. This may result in the impairment of mtDNA damage repair. To further study the
mechanism of this interaction, we will use tandem mass spectrometry (QTOF, letter attached, Fig. 8)
as a suitable method for enabling site mapping and quantification of chemical modifications of
proteins. We will treat A549 cells with mt OX as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Mitochondrial amount will be analyzed using a ratio of total mtDNA to nuclear DNA by RT PCR. We
will also analyze fission and fusion and mitophagy as described in SA#1.1.2. Additionally, we will
measure the kinetics of cytosolic mtDNA release, which is a marker of mitochondrial injury, using RT
PCR in cytosolic fractions obtained from A549 cells with DJ 1 knockout or overexpression in
comparison with control. We anticipate that DJ 1 knockout will impair mitochondrial dynamics,
exaggerate mtDNA damage and mitophagy, and increase ROS formation and cell apoptosis. DJ 1
overexpression will provide cytoprotection and will rescue of A549 cell injury induced by mt OX.
Alternative approaches: We do not expect any problems with this SA. We anticipate that dysregulated
metabolic signatures in human primary ATII cells obtained from patients with emphysema will
correlate with mitochondrial dysfunction. Our proposed approach may uncover novel mechanisms by
which DJ 1 is involved in mitochondrial function and metabolism. Based on our obtained results from
mass spectrometry analysis, we may also include in our study other DNA damage repair proteins,
which interact with DJ 1.
Specific Aim #1. Genome wide RNAi screening to identify novel targets involved in mitochondrial
DNA (mtDNA) damage induced by mt OX.
Hypothesis: We hypothesize that mt OX induces mtDNA damage. We will identify novel targets
leading to mitochondrial dysfunction.
Rationale: Mitochondria are enclosed by an

Compare And Contrast The Compromises Of The United States...
During the late 1700 s and the early 1800 s, the United States were constantly under stress from
tensions within their country. During these years, the nation was experiencing change at a rapid rate.
Increasing industrialization led to a booming growth in population and urbanization. During this time,
there were many things that divided the country. Some of those things were small, others divided the
nation. From 1781 to 1840, the US was divided among themselves with political, economic, and moral
conflicts that divided the country. In 1792, the first party system was established in the United States.

The Pros And Cons Of Libertarian Paternalism
I. Libertarian paternalism is a choice infrastructure that public or private institutions can nudge
choosers to make better choices whereas people s freedom of choices is preserved (Thaler and
Sunstein, 2003). Due to the increasing recognition of retirement saving crisis where people save much
less than is desirable, booming aging population and increasing uncertainty over the effectiveness and
impacts of traditional incentives such as tax relief, automatic enrolment (AE) is called as a potential
solution in the domain of retirement saving. This essay argues against the current AE scheme in the
UK National Employment Savings Trust and argues that while theoretically AE can be a sensible
answer to the problem of retirement saving it has a problematic choice infrastructure which might lead
to sub optimal outcomes and is facing uncertain costs. The reminder of this essay proceeds as follows.
Section II presents how nudge works in AE. Section III focuses on the limitations of the AE s default
options and presents the reasons why this scheme might lead to sub optimal outcomes. Section IV
concludes by suggesting possible solutions. II. First, people suffer from inertia, procrastination and
status quo basis when they are making decisions. Overwhelmed by numerous saving options which

The main concern of the automatic enrolment is that it assumes that government or choice designer
knows best and makes judgement about people s best interests and that of society (Halpern, 2015).
This issue can be partly addressed by the fact that people have low level of financial education thus
tend to make bad decisions and that people s rights to drop out are guaranteed. However, to avoid
misusage by unscrupulous government, transparency and disclosure requirement should be improved.
To boost employee engagement, simpler pension system and personalized guidance are the

Strategic implementation is the process that turns strategies and plans into actions in order to
accomplish strategic objectives and goals. It should be considered the blueprint for realizing the
organization s vision. The success of any strategy is solely dependent upon the effectiveness of its
implementation and execution. Ram Charan s New York Times bestseller, Execution: The Discipline

organization capable of executing strategy, proper resource allocation, support policies, continuous

Miss America Pageant Reflection By John Oliver
Humor s powerful, influential qualities that key in on deficient human behaviors combined with
societal constructs that evolve from them in a way that reveals their absurdity, often to a hilarious
degree, is what makes satire entertaining and, often, interestingly informative. Comedians that engage
in satire deliver a message that may be considered rude if spoken by any other means. Satire disarms
the audience and pardons the comic from responsibility for their criticisms, and is an especially
powerful tool in repressive political and social realms. Last Week Tonight with John Oliver uses the
satirical news format as a means to address the ridiculousness of beauty pageants as it continues to
objectify women in a climate in which social constructs are shifting towards feminist equality and
persuasion of the audience to agree with the commentary. Considering the context of the Miss
America Pageant reflection by John Oliver in his satirical news program, his goal is to select a
particular topic to deconstruct and discuss the inadequacies with a humoristic flair. The social climate
from the early 20th Century introduction of the Miss America Pageant to current day is vastly
different, and while the pageant evolved over the last 90 plus years, the basic tenets remain. Today s
woman is considered to be independent, strong, intelligent and the physical appearance is but a side
note. However, the pageant maintains the focus on physical appearance, which to many is

corporations (Callahan 100). The company Enron was another used as an example in Callahan s book.
Callahan explains to the reader that Sullivan was not alone in his act, but is joined by many other
corporate leaders that attempted the same route to prosperity. After a certain point in a persons career
there seems to be a point of no return. They are in the most elite social groups, live in lavish houses,
and are at the top of their respective corporation. Any movement would be downward movement and

Belgian Blue Cattle Manipulation
The effects of selective breeding and genetic manipulation can be seen in many ways as cruel
treatment in the cattle industry, especially when talking about dairy cattle and beef cattle. As stated by
United Kingdom levy board for milk production, the European Milk Development Council, The
average dairy cow now produces more than 6695 L of milk per year, approximately 20% more than
her counterpart from just 10 years ago. This is twenty times more than the average calf needs,
meaning dairy cattle are exploited for their milk to satisfy the demand in the growing industry. Like
humans, cows only produce milk when they are pregnant, meaning dairy cattle are pregnant most of
their life. If not for the abuses of milk production within dairy cattle, ... Show more content on

The Belgian Blue is highly sought over as it has the a naturally occurring gene that breeders have
taken advantage of to create more meat on the animal, in this case the Belgian Blue is double muscled.
This unfortunately has been capitalized negatively to the point where females of the Belgian Blue
cattle cannot give natural childbirth and must have cesareans (European Commission Scientific
Committee). The treatment of these animals due to only being able to give birth through cesarean is
greatly diminished because because the number of caesareans that can be performed is physiologically
limited. It is commonly accepted that five caesareans is a maximum that a cow can physically sustain
(Kolkman et al). So, not only is the cow going to be born just be slaughtered, but they also have to
endure a relatively invasive surgery to bring their young into a world in which their fate is identical.
The Belgian Blue is only one example of the exploitation of many different cattle species that share
this naturally occurring double muscled gene. The use of genetic manipulation within the industry of
animal agriculture plays a substantial negative role in the lives of cattle and their treatment and should
not be a frequently

Teenage Abortion In The United States
Teen Abortion Teen abortion is something that everyone should take seriously. One in four teens that
are pregnant have an abortion. That means that every 25% of teen pregnancies come to an end. Out of
all the different ages of abortion teens make up 18% of the 100%. 82% of all teen pregnancies are
accidental. Juggling school and a baby can be very hard on the mother and her family. About one half
of all teen mothers graduate high school and get their diploma. Most of the time mothers drop out just
to take care of their baby (choicespregnancy). On a good note, the U.S teen pregnancy, birth and
abortion rates have gone done significantly and they are the lowest they have been in four decades.

Edward Albee Essay
Edward Albee, a famous American Playwright, was born on March 12, 1928 and grew up in
Westchester County, New York. Albee grew up with his adoptive parents and left home at the age of
18, due to conflicts with his adoptive parents and a suffocating environment. Although, his adopted
family was very wealthy and owned multiple theatres, he felt very distanced. However, because he
was his family owned theatres, he was exposed to that realm and idea, which he later found a passion
with. Albee s love as a playwright was not supported by his family, as they wanted a son to have a
more respectable job, like a doctor or lawyer. As a student, Albee was known to be expelled or kicked
out by many of his schools. He had a passion to write plays and began experimenting with different
styles, while befriending other writers, sculptors and painters.
Albee was an exceptional writer and wrote many poems, but was able to find his break or voice when
he began writing plays. He was known for his dramas and many one act plays. His first breakout and
major play was Zoo Story and was written in only 3 weeks. Zoo Story is a one act play and its theme

Mistakes Are Made When Buying A Home Essay
3 Mistakes That Can Be Made When Buying A Home For The First Time When buying your very first
home, the process may feel very overwhelming to you. Many parts of the home buying process are
unique, and it s difficult to be ready for what to expect when it comes to dealing with things like your
mortgage. Here are 3 potentially mistakes you may make when getting a home, with ways to prevent
them from happening. Using Your Full Loan Offer From The Bank The first step of getting a mortgage
is to get pre approved with a local mortgage lender. They will look over your finances, and then
determine how much money they are willing to loan you to buy a home. This is usually based off of
savings, income, and current debt that you owe. A mistake often made is using your pre approval
amount to determine what kind of home you should get. The pre approval amount is is not meant to be
a recommendation, but to let you know how big of a loan you can expect to get from the mortgage
lender. When a lender determines that dollar amount, they are not taking into ... Show more content on

Making Down Payment You Cannot Afford A good down payment is considered to be 20% of the
price of the home. The reason is because that is when you start seeing a lot of benefits when it comes
to your mortgage. You will not have to pay private mortgage insurance, and you can even get a lower
rate on your loan. That said, you should only make a large down payment if you can afford it. If you
end up using all of your savings just to reach 20%, you will leave yourself without any sort of
emergency fund to pay for all those unexpected costs that come with having a home. You may not get
the best deal on your loan by giving a smaller down payment, but you may end up paying more later if
you need to borrow money for an emergency. Not Getting Your Home

Meerkat Manor: Hunter Gatherers
After watching Meerkat Manor, I believe that the group of Meerkats, called Whiskers, most resemble
the hunter gatherers. To start off, the elders within the Meerkat group would continuously hunt and
gather the food for offspring and those who cannot take of themselves anymore. Just like traditional
hunter gathers, the men would leave to gather the larger preys while the women would stay and
babysit the kids while gathering nuts, berries, herbs, and small prey which they would use to feed the
children of the group to take care and support them through their lives.
Furthermore, the hunter gatherers travel in large groups called hordes, which is what the whiskers
have been shown to do within Meerkat Manor. These large groups of Meerkat claimed land using
scent, and followed the rules that were set up the leader, who was usually a female within the hunter
gatherer society. In this case, Flower was the head of the horde as she made the rules and commands
that the group must follow. For example, when Flower s offspring became pregnant, she beat her

fair poll is a question without any hint of personal opinions or judgements. A poll must also be
unbiased, meaning not supporting or opposing a particular person or thing in an unfair way, because of
personal opinions to influence your judgements. There are several different types of bias however the
main ones are; analytical bias, cognitive bias, confounding bias, consistency bias, experimenter bias,
omitted variable bias, recency bias, reporting bias, selection bias and systematic bias. Firstly analytical
bias arises due to the way that the results are evaluated. Secondly cognitive bias is a pattern of

Confounding bias occurs when two factors are associated and the effect of one is confused with or
distorted by the effect of the other. Consistency bias refers to the relation of terms to one another; it is
the tendency to keep one response consistent with prior response. Next consistency bias is similar to
social desirability bias, except that the latter term refers to a tendency to answer a given item in a
social acceptable. Experimenter bias is when the measurements obtained in a study are influenced by
the experimenter s expectations regarding the outcome of the study. A researcher knows the predicted
outcome of a research study and is in a position to influence the results, either intentionally or
unintentionally. Omitted variable bias is the bias that appears in estimates of parameters in a
regression analysis when the assumed specification omits an independent variable that should be in
the model. Recency Bias is a cognitive predisposition that causes people to more prominently recall
and emphasize recent events and observations than those that occurred in the near or distant

Just A Dream By Chris Van Allsburg
The children s book, Just a Dream by Chris Van Allsburg explains the importance of having a clean
environment and what the consequences will be if you do not take care of it. The story opens with
Walter eating a jelly doughnut and throwing the empty bag it came in at the fire hydrant. This
displayed how Walter did not take littering seriously, but at the end realized how important it truly is
to keep the environment pollution free. Allsburg takes us on a journey through Walter s dreams
explaining what you should and should not do to the environment through words and the detailed
illustrations.
Walter is the main protagonist in Allsburg book because the story is based off of all of the dreams he is
having and is on each page of the book. When you flip through the book, you notice in the opening
scene that first Walter has his back faced towards the reader and when you keep going through Walter
is always there. One thing we can notice when we look at the book is how unappreciative he is of
nature. When Rose says she got a tree for her birthday he did not seem so pleased about it instead, he
called it a dumb plant. Also, he was supposed to sort through the trash and recycle, but instead he just
puts everything in one trash can which shows how he does not care about recycling. Walter realizes at
the end that nature is important and we should cherish it. When he returns back from all his dreams he

Employment and Medical Leave Act Essay
Family and Medical Leave Act The Family and Medical Leave Act of 1993 (FMLA) was established
to help protect employees who missed work for medical reasons. The Family and Medical Leave Act
(FMLA) provides employees job protection in case of family or medical emergency. FMLA permits
eligible employees to take up to 12 workweeks of unpaid leave during any 12 month period.
(Martocchio, 2003) The Wage and Hour Division (WHD) is responsible for administrating and
enforcing most of the labor laws, including FMLA. There are four reasons that an employee can claim

In reality, the impact of FMLA abuse extends well beyond the workplace because FMLA costs are
passed on to consumers. (Profesional Exchange Service Corporation, 2005) Even though the time off
is unpaid to the employee, it is very disruptive to certain types of business such as call centers who
need to schedule employees to cover busy call times with in their business. By having employees
abusing this policy, it becomes harder and harder to staff some businesses. It is not only the employer
that suffers; it is also the employees that are left to work when there peers off of work. Some of the
other issues with the administration of the law are the vague diagnoses doctors give for the reasons
employees should be off of work. In some cases, employees file under the FMLA law when in fact
they may have a type of disability the employer could accommodate under the ADA law. Even though
the intent of this act was to help protect employees, many believe that FMLA may be doing more
harm to business that it was intended. It may be time to review and revamp this law, and have some of
the items intergraded into the ADA in order for it to be better managed. Many believe that there are
ways to improve this law to help protect employees as well as have the law not have a severe impact
on businesses. References Cohen, D. G., McLeod, T. (2003, August 2003). Changes in FMLA are
needed. Michigan Banker, 15(8),

Quantum Teleportation And Its Effect On Human Life
Since 1993, when the concept was first introduced by Bennett et al., numerous attempt have been
made to practically implement Quantum teleportation. Quantum teleportation was first demonstrated
with entangled photons[11] in 1997. Later, various developments have been achieved in laboratory,
including the demonstration of entanglement swapping[12], open destination teleportation[13] and
teleportation of two bit composite system[14]. Entanglement distribution has been shown with fiber
links[15 18]. In addition, practical quantum teleportation have been realized via fiber links[19, 20] and
limited to a distance of about one kilometer. Experiments have achieved free space distribution of
entangled photon pairs over distances of 600 m[21] and 13 km[22]. Later, entangled photons were
transmitted over 144 km[23, 24]. In these experiments, either only one photon was transmitted[23] or
the entangled photon pair was transferred together[24] using only a one link channel. Most recently,
following a modified scheme[25], quantum teleportation over a 16 km free space links was
demonstrated[26] with a single pair of entangled photons. However in this experiment, the unknown
quantum state must be prepared on one of the resource entangled qubits and therefore cannot be
presented independently.
Quantum cryptography, specifically Quantum key distribution is one important field where quantum
teleportation can be practically applied to provide completely secure information exchange between

Essay on Poverty and Inequality in El Salvador
The poverty and inequality that has plagued El Salvador since the early twentieth century stems from
their rule by the Oligarchy, which dates back to colonial times. The Oligarchy s lack of consistency in
implementing and following through with reforms has prevented progress from occurring in the
country. Furthermore, the many wars and political revolts in El Salvador impeded its economic and
social growth. The main focus of the Oligarchy was to turn a profit. And because they essentially ran
the economy, they assumed that their actions were best for both their profits and the country s
economy as a whole. Their selfish single minded focus led to a growing economic inequalities, which

However, the Indians were susceptible to the diseases brought over by the Spaniards, which led to a
decline in the Indian population. Because the Oligarchy viewed the Indians as disposable labor, they
did not feel the need to treat them to prevent their numbers from dwindling. Instead, the Spanish
replaced them with slaves imported from Africa (Montgomery 71). This was one of the first signs of
inequality brought to El Salvador by the Oligarchy. In the seventeenth century, the demand for cacao
dropped. As a result of this, El Salvador plunged into an economic depression, and the Oligarchy had
to find a new source of revenue, which they found in indigo (Montgomery 71). Indigo was profitable
because of the increase in demand for textiles in Europe at this time (Krauss 59 60). This led the
Oligarchy to increase its acquisition of land in El Salvador, which was mainly inhabited by the native
Indians. On top of being extremely lucrative, indigo was far less labor intensive than cacao was, so it
became the main focus of El Salvador s agriculture by 1600 (Montgomery 71). Unfortunately, these
developments had high costs for the Indian populations. When the indigo rotted, diseases would be
brought to the Indian villages that cultivated it, killing off entire villages in several instances. When
this happened, they were merely replaced by another tribe (Krauss 60). Eventually the mistreatment of
the Indians by the

Gregory VI. Gregory VI was removed from power with charges of simony, and was sent to Germany.
Hildebrand followed and crossed the alps. His stay in Germany was of amazing educative value, and
helped his ruling as pope in the future. In Cologne he pursued his studies and became aware of the
circles of Lorraine where interest of the church and its life was at the top. Soon he returned to Rome
and served as advisor to Pope Leo IX. With the death of Alexander II, Hildebrand became pope and
took the name Gregory VII. His election was bitterly berated by his enemies. From the beginning
Gregory tried to assert his authority over political leaders, and thus issued an order against lay
investiture. This brought the controversy of the struggle between church authority and secular
authority. It was questioned whether the king had final authority. A common belief was that was that
kings were choosing bishops and abbots to benefit themselves and not the churches. This might not be
entirely true; kings have been the origin of funds for churches. It only seems correct they should
appoint who runs them. Kings wanted to show how if they didn`t provide the funds of the churches

example, both of them served time in the military and they also both agreed with the removal of

The couple remarried on Jan. 17, 1794, but Jackson s neglect in reviewing the legal issues of Rachel s
divorce was exploited by his political opponents in the presidential race of 1828. Rachel and Andrew
did not have children so as a result, they had adopted three young boys. In December 1808, Elizabeth
Donelson, the wife of Rachel s brother Severn, bore twin boys. Someone suggested that Rachel and
Jackson rear one of the boys as their own. Twins always place an extra strain on families of newborns.
Perhaps Elizabeth may have offered, but somehow the women decided that Rachel would take one of
the babies for her own... Jackson later contended that he and Rachel formally adopted Andrew Jackson
Jr. a few weeks after his birth. He had also later adopted two other children who were Native
American boys. These two boys were sons were Theodore and Lyncoya. Little is known about the two
boys but it has been discovered that Lyncoya died of tuberculosis at 16.
From this information, you can see that both James Madison and Andrew Jackson had very different
and somewhat related family life. James Madison had adopted one child while Andrew Jackson had
also adopted three children. You can tell that adoption was a common thing for many people during
the late 1700s and 1800s. Jackson and Madison also had wives that had been separated from their

Compare And Contrast Sumer And Babylon
Impact of Fertile Cresent Cultures
Sumer and Babylon
Both, the people that belonged to Sumer(Sumerians) and Babylon (Babylonians) were part of the
early/ancient Mesopotamian civilizations; however since Sumer was the first civilization on record in
Mesopotamia and started off much more early than the Babylonian civilization, it couldn t have
adapted anything that the Babylonian civilization created. However the other way around.
Babylonians did adapt some things about the Sumerians and had some similarities in their culture, but
they still stayed original in their way.
First off, the Babylon empire was much more expanded, bigger, than Sumer due to the Babylonian

Both civilizations fell apart but made a comeback which led to eventual downfall again. Sumer s

crops in Sumer, after that, it got conquered by the Akkadians. Time later, Sumerians made a

came and invaded the region.
A similar thing happened to the Babylon empire, it was invaded/conquered by the Kassites in 1595,
staying in power for 400 years but then got overcome by the Assyrians. The Babylon Empire, Neo
Babylonian empire then rose back to power in 626 BC, led by the son of King Nabopolassar,

States. People learn more from the media than any other source because it is the message and
messenger. Americans devote about 10 hours and 39 minutes daily to consuming media (Howard).
The media s misrepresentation of women in movies, television shows, and advertisements negatively
shapes politics, our national discourse, children s inquisitive minds, and ultimately society. The danger
behind these stereotyped images of women is that their effect is subconscious, meaning we slowly
become accustomed to a sexist portrayal of women without even immediately realizing it. To cease
our unrealistic, prejudiced expectations of women, a culture change is necessary. Early on, adolescents
get the message that a woman s worth is mostly based on her looks, not her intelligence. This norm is
harmful to girls because they end up comparing themselves to an impossible standard and feel
ashamed when they cannot achieve it. Conversely, boys end up judging real women much more
harshly and start treating them like objects. Because adolescents have different interpretive and
emotional abilities from the rest of society, they are a particularly vulnerable group of people. They
are often exposed to the things they see in movies, television shows, and video games with little to no
mediation. The director of the movie, Jennifer Siebel Newsom, worries about the pressure her
daughter will feel to be like

Research Paper On Slang Words
Justin Wherry Wherry 1 Miss Bailey English IV/ P.7 24 September, 2014 Slang Words Over the
decades people have become less educated, and stopped using a higher vocabulary. In place of the
higher word choice, groups of people devolved words that are cooler to say. Those words are called
slang. Slang means words or phrases that are commonly used in the English language to help
communicate to a specific crowd of people. The crowd of people that use slang may vary to different
age groups. And over the decades more words have been devolved, making slang words like a
continuous fad. Slang words, were developed to make communication to certain groups easier,
simpler, and perhaps more fun, however the use of slang words can cripple ones ... Show more content

To understand why we have slang, we must understand what we use slang words for. Slang words
were meant for communication purposes. They were devolved to communicate to a specific group
people throughout the same area. For example teenagers have their own language of slang, and so did
their parents. However the difference between the two is, the parents slang differs greatly between the
teenagers slang. Parents struggle daily to try to better communicate and understand what their
son/daughter is say to them, their friends, and on social media. Teenagers in the 21st century love to
use slang words on the internet to rapidly communicate to one another. As well as out in public,
teenagers communicate using slang. Although slang is commonly used a lot of people feel the need to
not even use slang. Slang has also devolved a negative side, most highly educated people feel that
slang words are a hazard to the English language. Not only does it make communication more difficult
but at the rate slang words will take over the vocabulary of all youth in America. When I was in
school, slang words filled the halls of my hallway. Words like groovy, and rad were the words that
meant cool or hip. But now words like live, raw, or cold , mean the same

Emmett Till Reflection
1. The whole story and trial of Emmett Till was probably one of the most saddest stories I have heard
about. What surprised me most is the reason why they killed Emmett. This just showed how much
blacks were looked down upon. Nowadays, women get whistled at all the time by all different types of
men. This is just a rude gesture to whistle at a women, however we wouldn t brutally murder them.
What also surprised me was how they killed him. The murderers did not have to savagely kill him.
This changed my view on history and actually opened my eyes. I think we need to be better educated
on the subject that everybody tries to ignore.
2. During the trial, businesses put out jars to collect money for the defense of the two murderers. This
shows that everyone was on the murderers side. The community views the white race as the superior
race, and that is why the murderers were not guilty. Society then, was not a time that we should be
proud of. Those murderers should have been ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If I could interview those children now when they are around 60, I would ask why did they do that?
Pretending to shoot someone and laugh, what did that symbolize and what did that mean to them? I
would also ask how they viewed race growing up. What was race to them? I would also ask what if it
was the year 2015, would they still do that as kids? I would expect them to be surprised about the first
question. As children, we do not understand what we are doing, but we should know right from wrong
and laughing at someone, pretending to kill them is unacceptable. I would expect them to answer what
it meant to do that and I think they would explain that they were only kids and that it was a different
time and society in 1955. I would expect them to answer how they felt about race growing with
obviously saying that the colored people were looked down on. If they were to do that now in 2015,
they probably would not do that in the first place, it is a completely different time period and everyone

Reminiscence By Elizabeth Jenning
Throughout Elizabeth Jenning s poem Reminiscence , she explores the changing nature of love and its
transformation between childhood and adulthood. She indulges in the purity of love that exists within
the simplistic aspects of children s lives as she discusses the loss of naivety during the ascendence into
the complexities of adulthood. Demonstrating the innocence of childhood, Jenning s displays a sense
of freedom associated with their lack of anxiety and nuances. In opposition to such, adulthood is
presented to confine Jennings as she deals with the concept of feeling trapped which results in her
conflicting emotions that lead to a celebratory recollection of childhood ease.
Elizabeth Jenning s concludes that childhood affection is nothing ... Show more content on

Breaking the enjambement that symbolises the innocence of freedom, Jenning s use of a caesura after
the line did not seek to find something they could not touch, illustrates the cruelty of matured
intimacy. Jenning s exposes her struggle to bear the complicated characteristics of the love she has
grown to become familiar with as she discusses her difficulty to whittle a pattern from the shapeless
stony stuff. Her use of sibilance indicates that she despises the bitter disappointment she experienced
with love as a grown woman. The harsh repetitive sound establishes the fact that adulthood
continuously hurts her which is further reinforced by the noun pattern. A pattern is a regular use of
colour or imagery which reflects the cycle of childhood to adulthood, a sequence of changing love that
Jenning s cannot prevent. A second interpretation to such would be the evidenced idea that Jenning s
battles with the incapability to relate the soft nature of childhood love to the viciousness of adulthood.
The connotations of a pattern are a beautiful childhood drawing which she cannot create out of the
brittle nature of adulthood

  • 2. Apple Computer Case Analysis APPLE COMPUTER CASE ANALYSIS After the return of Steve Jobs at Apple Computer many changes happened which finally brought the company back to profitability. However Apple holds a market share of only 3.48 percent among its six strongest competitors. The fact is that today the PC market is a mature market and only the strong survive. In Exhibit 1 is shown how the PC market has been shared among the most valuable players and how Apple s share has decreased by more than half during five years time. Under the current situation the only way for a company to increase its market share is to take customers away from the competition. So the question is what Apple has to do in order to gain more market share. First of all let ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 5. Return on Total Assets is improving by 2002 but is still lower than the competition, which means that the total investment on Apple has not yet attributed what is expected. Though we have to focus on how can Apple increase its market share, in other words how they can persuade the customers to switch from Windows to MAC OS. Since as stated in the case study if Apple took 1% of Windows users to switch, Apple s market share would increase by 20 35%. What are the reasons preventing people from switching from Windows to Mac? The main reason is the compatibility between these operating systems. Apple has isolated itself from the market, as they focus on developing both hardware and software, which are compatible only with one another . • 9. Climate Change Of The California Valley Oak ( Quercus... Habitat shift is another strategy used by plants to evade climate change. The term evade may be more relevant here owing to the fact that with habitat shift a plant can translocate to a different area. Typically with habitat shift a plant will move to a different habitat, as implied by the name. An example of this can be seen in the California Valley Oak (Quercus lobata), which is very sensitive to climate change. This species when exposed to elevated temperatures shifts itself northward and tends to move from a largely terrestrial habitat to the edges of water sources. This is not foolproof because their new habitat presents a dead end for the species. The rapidly increasing climate will eventually kill the Quercus lobata (McLaughlin and Zavaleta 2012). These shifts can be even more drastic. For example, one paper used computer models to observe climate change in Germany. Based off of predicted models the paper inferred that many species would begin shifting to the Iberian Peninsula in order to avoid climate change (Bergmann et al. 2009). Again, this shift could later become an issue as with the Quercus lobata because of the dead end scenario. The dead end scenario is not the only limitation associated with habitat shifts. Other limitations include the plants intrinsic abilities to move these distances. It will be discussed further a little later in the paper, but if a plant has poor dispersal mechanisms than it wont be able to escape climate change. Furthermore, if a ... It is the greatest human invention, it is the ultimate definition of what, where, and how we call a place our home. In this essay I will discuss the characteristics, process, and elements within culture, as well as an in depth look into the different categories and the topic of race within culture. A few basic components of culture are cognitive process, behavior, and material creations. Cognitive processes are the basic outline or ground work by which people think, reason, and give value. These frameworks for thought are learned by enculturation in both formal and informal situations throughout their lives. We cannot view the cognitive processes that create a value system within an individual s mind, but we can view the outcome... (28 29). this means that while we cannot view the creation of values in a culture, we can witness the embodiment of these learned perspectives. When an individual s actions reflect their cognitive process, they re presenting their learned behavior. Behavior is another component of culture because everything from the way we use our bodies to how we interact in social or secluded situations is a result from how and where we were raised. Finally, material creations help define culture because objects like art, artifacts or features often reflect the creator s cultural thoughts, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Analysis Of The Book Wonderland, And Its Sequel In analyzing Lewis Carroll s works Alice s Adventures in Wonderland, and its sequel, Through the Looking Glass, studying the the illustrations is of as great importance as examining the text that they depict. From the first sentence of Wonderland, Carroll exhibits a concern for illustrations and their role regarding storytelling in writing, what is the use of a book , thought Alice, without pictures, (Carroll 7). As Carroll seems to have intended, the words which comprise Wonderland and Looking Glass are only a one facet in the reader s interpretation of the two works. Equally important as the written text to the experience of Wonderland and Looking Glass House is illustration, and by extension different artists interpretations of these fantastical worlds. Interpreting the Alice stories through illustration first was Carroll himself, further increasing the interest of the relation between image and text as well as the question of the importance of pictures to their stories. Evidently Carroll intended the text of Alice s adventures to be accompanied with images for readers, even initially putting in the time and effort himself to ensure their illustration, demonstrating the great concern he had for the relationship between the text of a story and its visual depiction. In the following thesis I choose Hinduism as an example to show how rituals are meaningful, how it relates to the living context of the Indian people, how the Indians enact the Hindu rituals, and so on. India is a country full of mysteries and differences. It has a long history, a profound yet unique culture, with diversified nationalities, races, religions, languages and a huge population. The pursuit of secularism and inveteracy of sectarianism have brought huge influence to the Indian society. As the mainstream culture in India, Hinduism plays an important role in the Indian society and has dominated almost 2000 years of its history. We anticipate that DJ 1 knockout will impair mitochondrial dynamics, exaggerate mtDNA damage and mitophagy, and increase ROS formation and cell apoptosis. Libertarian paternalism is a choice infrastructure that public or private institutions can nudge choosers to make better choices whereas people s freedom of choices is preserved (Thaler and Sunstein, 2003). Due to the increasing recognition of retirement saving crisis where people save much less than is desirable, booming aging population and increasing uncertainty over the effectiveness and impacts of traditional incentives such as tax relief, automatic enrolment (AE) is called as a potential solution in the domain of retirement saving. This essay argues against the current AE scheme in the UK National Employment Savings Trust and argues that while theoretically AE can be a sensible answer to the problem of retirement saving it has a problematic choice infrastructure which might lead to sub optimal outcomes and is facing uncertain costs. The reminder of this essay proceeds as follows. Section II presents how nudge works in AE. Section III focuses on the limitations of the AE s default options and presents the reasons why this scheme might lead to sub optimal outcomes. Section IV concludes by suggesting possible solutions. Many parts of the home buying process are unique, and it s difficult to be ready for what to expect when it comes to dealing with things like your mortgage. Here are 3 potentially mistakes you may make when getting a home, with ways to prevent them from happening. Using Your Full Loan Offer From The Bank The first step of getting a mortgage is to get pre approved with a local mortgage lender. They will look over your finances, and then determine how much money they are willing to loan you to buy a home. This is usually based off of savings, income, and current debt that you owe. A mistake often made is using your pre approval amount to determine what kind of home you should get. Making Down Payment You Cannot Afford A good down payment is considered to be 20% of the price of the home. The reason is because that is when you start seeing a lot of benefits when it comes to your mortgage. You will not have to pay private mortgage insurance, and you can even get a lower rate on your loan. That said, you should only make a large down payment if you can afford it. If you end up using all of your savings just to reach 20%, you will leave yourself without any sort of emergency fund to pay for all those unexpected costs that come with having a home. You may not get the best deal on your loan by giving a smaller down payment, but you may end up paying more later if you need to borrow money for an emergency. Not Getting Your Home ... (Profesional Exchange Service Corporation, 2005) Even though the time off is unpaid to the employee, it is very disruptive to certain types of business such as call centers who need to schedule employees to cover busy call times with in their business. By having employees abusing this policy, it becomes harder and harder to staff some businesses. It is not only the employer that suffers; it is also the employees that are left to work when there peers off of work. Some of the other issues with the administration of the law are the vague diagnoses doctors give for the reasons employees should be off of work. In some cases, employees file under the FMLA law when in fact they may have a type of disability the employer could accommodate under the ADA law. Even though the intent of this act was to help protect employees, many believe that FMLA may be doing more harm to business that it was intended. It may be time to review and revamp this law, and have some of the items intergraded into the ADA in order for it to be better managed. Many believe that there are ways to improve this law to help protect employees as well as have the law not have a severe impact on businesses. References Cohen, D. G., McLeod, T. (2003, August 2003). Quantum Teleportation And Its Effect On Human Life Since 1993, when the concept was first introduced by Bennett et al., numerous attempt have been made to practically implement Quantum teleportation. Quantum teleportation was first demonstrated with entangled photons[11] in 1997. Later, various developments have been achieved in laboratory, including the demonstration of entanglement swapping[12], open destination teleportation[13] and teleportation of two bit composite system[14]. Entanglement distribution has been shown with fiber links[15 18]. In addition, practical quantum teleportation have been realized via fiber links[19, 20] and limited to a distance of about one kilometer. Experiments have achieved free space distribution of entangled photon pairs over distances of 600 m[21] and 13 km[22]. Later, entangled photons were transmitted over 144 km[23, 24]. In these experiments, either only one photon was transmitted[23] or the entangled photon pair was transferred together[24] using only a one link channel. Most recently, following a modified scheme[25], quantum teleportation over a 16 km free space links was demonstrated[26] with a single pair of entangled photons. However in this experiment, the unknown quantum state must be prepared on one of the resource entangled qubits and therefore cannot be presented independently. Quantum cryptography, specifically Quantum key distribution is one important field where quantum teleportation can be practically applied to provide completely secure information exchange between ... Furthermore, the many wars and political revolts in El Salvador impeded its economic and social growth. The main focus of the Oligarchy was to turn a profit. Because the Oligarchy viewed the Indians as disposable labor, they did not feel the need to treat them to prevent their numbers from dwindling. Instead, the Spanish replaced them with slaves imported from Africa (Montgomery 71). This was one of the first signs of inequality brought to El Salvador by the Oligarchy. In the seventeenth century, the demand for cacao dropped. As a result of this, El Salvador plunged into an economic depression, and the Oligarchy had to find a new source of revenue, which they found in indigo (Montgomery 71). Indigo was profitable because of the increase in demand for textiles in Europe at this time (Krauss 59 60). This led the Oligarchy to increase its acquisition of land in El Salvador, which was mainly inhabited by the native Indians. On top of being extremely lucrative, indigo was far less labor intensive than cacao was, so it became the main focus of El Salvador s agriculture by 1600 (Montgomery 71). Unfortunately, these developments had high costs for the Indian populations. When the indigo rotted, diseases would be brought to the Indian villages that cultivated it, killing off entire villages in several instances. When this happened, they were merely replaced by another tribe (Krauss 60). Eventually the mistreatment of the Indians by the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 44. Misrepresentation Of Women In The Media Miss Representation conveys that media is derogative to the most powerful women in the United States. People learn more from the media than any other source because it is the message and messenger. Americans devote about 10 hours and 39 minutes daily to consuming media (Howard). The media s misrepresentation of women in movies, television shows, and advertisements negatively shapes politics, our national discourse, children s inquisitive minds, and ultimately society. The danger behind these stereotyped images of women is that their effect is subconscious, meaning we slowly become accustomed to a sexist portrayal of women without even immediately realizing it. To cease our unrealistic, prejudiced expectations of women, a culture change is necessary. Early on, adolescents get the message that a woman s worth is mostly based on her looks, not her intelligence. This norm is harmful to girls because they end up comparing themselves to an impossible standard and feel ashamed when they cannot achieve it. Conversely, boys end up judging real women much more harshly and start treating them like objects. Because adolescents have different interpretive and emotional abilities from the rest of society, they are a particularly vulnerable group of people. They are often exposed to the things they see in movies, television shows, and video games with little to no mediation.
