PDHPE (Personal Development, Health and Physical Education) is an important school subject that teaches children how to make healthy lifestyle choices and encourages physical activity. National health surveys show that nearly 25% of Australian children are overweight or obese, and without health education these rates are likely to rise along with associated health issues. PDHPE aims to develop students' life skills, promote healthy relationships and involvement in physical activity, and encourage self-understanding and respect for others.
2. The Big Picture For children and adolescents, the 2007-08 National Health Survey results indicate that 24.9% of children aged 5 – 17 years are overweight or obese. 25.8% of boys and 24.0% of girls are either overweight or obese.
