Reflections from the Non-Traditional Road to a Doctorate: Adult Learner Pract...Melanie Booth
This interactive workshop explored ways in which two practitioners who work in the world of serving and educating adult learners experienced their own learning and development in non-traditional (distributed) adult learning / higher education doctoral programs. In comparing and contrasting their experiences as students, the presenters shared their reflections about learning, administration, and doctoral program practices, many of which have subsequently informed the work they do with their own adult undergraduate learners. Workshop participants had the opportunity to consider how the presenters’ experiences inform learning theory and administrative practice in regard to adult learners. Presented by Melanie Booth and Annalee Lamoreaux at the 2006 AHEA Conference.

Plants absorb light in order to carry out photosynthesis. This light is absorbed by chloroplasts in plant cells. Through photosynthesis, plants synthesize their own food.
Paper chromatography is normally used to separate mixtures of different molecules since capillary action happens and allows the molecules of each pigment to attract to one another and to the paper and thus, move up the paper (“Lab Report On Plant Pigments and Photosynthesis Biology Essay”).
The pigments include Chlorophyll a, Chlorophyll b, Xanthophyll, and Carotene.
The Relative Mobility Factor (Rf) value is the distance that the solute traveled divided by the distance the solvent traveled (“Chromatography of Different Colored Leaves: Lab Report”). The distance traveled by the solvent is the line to which the original solution reached when the filter paper was dipped in the solution.
The Rf values can be compared between different plant species to compare the pigments found in them.

Micro RNA genes and their likely influence in rice (Oryza sativa L.) dynamic ...Open Access Research Paper
Micro RNAs (miRNAs) are small non-coding RNAs molecules having approximately 18-25 nucleotides, they are present in both plants and animals genomes. MiRNAs have diverse spatial expression patterns and regulate various developmental metabolisms, stress responses and other physiological processes. The dynamic gene expression playing major roles in phenotypic differences in organisms are believed to be controlled by miRNAs. Mutations in regions of regulatory factors, such as miRNA genes or transcription factors (TF) necessitated by dynamic environmental factors or pathogen infections, have tremendous effects on structure and expression of genes. The resultant novel gene products presents potential explanations for constant evolving desirable traits that have long been bred using conventional means, biotechnology or genetic engineering. Rice grain quality, yield, disease tolerance, climate-resilience and palatability properties are not exceptional to miRN Asmutations effects. There are new insights courtesy of high-throughput sequencing and improved proteomic techniques that organisms’ complexity and adaptations are highly contributed by miRNAs containing regulatory networks. This article aims to expound on how rice miRNAs could be driving evolution of traits and highlight the latest miRNA research progress. Moreover, the review accentuates miRNAs grey areas to be addressed and gives recommendations for further studies.
Diabetes is a rapidly and serious health problem in Pakistan. This chronic condition is associated with serious long-term complications, including higher risk of heart disease and stroke. Aggressive treatment of hypertension and hyperlipideamia can result in a substantial reduction in cardiovascular events in patients with diabetes 1. Consequently pharmacist-led diabetes cardiovascular risk (DCVR) clinics have been established in both primary and secondary care sites in NHS Lothian during the past five years. An audit of the pharmaceutical care delivery at the clinics was conducted in order to evaluate practice and to standardize the pharmacists’ documentation of outcomes. Pharmaceutical care issues (PCI) and patient details were collected both prospectively and retrospectively from three DCVR clinics. The PCI`s were categorized according to a triangularised system consisting of multiple categories. These were ‘checks’, ‘changes’ (‘change in drug therapy process’ and ‘change in drug therapy’), ‘drug therapy problems’ and ‘quality assurance descriptors’ (‘timer perspective’ and ‘degree of change’). A verified medication assessment tool (MAT) for patients with chronic cardiovascular disease was applied to the patients from one of the clinics. The tool was used to quantify PCI`s and pharmacist actions that were centered on implementing or enforcing clinical guideline standards. A database was developed to be used as an assessment tool and to standardize the documentation of achievement of outcomes. Feedback on the audit of the pharmaceutical care delivery and the database was received from the DCVR clinic pharmacist at a focus group meeting.
Characterization and the Kinetics of drying at the drying oven and with micro...Open Access Research Paper
The objective of this work is to contribute to valorization de Nephelium lappaceum by the characterization of kinetics of drying of seeds of Nephelium lappaceum. The seeds were dehydrated until a constant mass respectively in a drying oven and a microwawe oven. The temperatures and the powers of drying are respectively: 50, 60 and 70°C and 140, 280 and 420 W. The results show that the curves of drying of seeds of Nephelium lappaceum do not present a phase of constant kinetics. The coefficients of diffusion vary between 2.09.10-8 to 2.98. 10-8m-2/s in the interval of 50°C at 70°C and between 4.83×10-07 at 9.04×10-07 m-8/s for the powers going of 140 W with 420 W the relation between Arrhenius and a value of energy of activation of 16.49 kJ. mol-1 expressed the effect of the temperature on effective diffusivity.

UNDERSTANDING WHAT GREEN WASHING IS!.pdfJulietMogola
Many companies today use green washing to lure the public into thinking they are conserving the environment but in real sense they are doing more harm. There have been such several cases from very big companies here in Kenya and also globally. This ranges from various sectors from manufacturing and goes to consumer products. Educating people on greenwashing will enable people to make better choices based on their analysis and not on what they see on marketing sites.

1. In what ways did you use new
media technologies in the creation
of your media products?
2. • New technology has had a massive impact on
todays society, if you look back in time the
idea of making a movie it would never have
been thought of or even a possibility.
Technology is forever growing an
expanding, and what you have now will
probably be something completely different in
a few years time
3. • I decided to take advantage of many different
websites that are available and search engines
that play a major role within the creation of
teaser trailers, posters and magazines. On a day
to day basis we tend to take all these features for
granted and forget that without these new
technologies we would not be able to make such
successful teaser trailers, and they would be very
different without these resources.
Youtube, Google and Facebook have millions of
people using them every day so its hard to
imagine the world without them. Its weird to
think that many of these successful websites have
in fact been created within the last 10-15 years in
fact.
4.
5. • Microsoft and apple are both two very leading
and powerful conglomerates that have both
been around since back in the 70’. But only
from the around the 90s had the actually
started to hear about these about as they
began to develop in such a way that made
them highly respected within the technology
industry.
6. • Youtube has been a big and vital part in my
research and planning in particular. With the
click of just a finger I am able to watch every
film trailer and teaser trailer that has ever
been made. On one site I was able to watch as
many film trailers just in my horror genre, I
was then able to go into the sub genre of
psychological horror. This meant I could watch
and re-watch the important parts within the
trailer.
7. • In particular I wanted the ‘House at the end of
the street’ trailer countless times and then
was able to analyze the aspects that I liked
and wanted use as an influence. I was also
able to take screen shots from the videos.
Without YouTube I wouldn’t have been able to
do this.
8. • Websites such as slide share and sound cloud
have also played a role within the
development of my trailer. I used soundcloud
as a resource to look at different types of
music that I would be able to use as there is a
huge variety on their. Slide share was used to
upload files such as power points which I then
imported to my blog.
9. • Blogger is an online website in which people
can then make their own blogs. It is used for a
variety of different reasons such as people
blogging in general or for fashion e.c.t..
• It was launched in 1999, I am able to create a
joining blog if I would want to in order for
them to administrate through the research and
planning stages and development of trailer,
magazine and poster. Blogger enabled me to
amalgmate my influences, ideas, research and
planning.
10. Blogger
• I uploaded images, embedded from YouTube
to create links between websites which I think
imbedded into a prezi. Blogger has been a
huge note pad to me-allowing me to
collaborate every stage whether it was small
or big. Without blogger I would find I
extremely hard to keep track of my progress
and research and would be hard to put
everything in one place like I am able to do
with blogger.
12. Prezi
• Prezi is presentation software which is available
to everyone. I am using the free version however
you are able to pay to become a member. Prezi is
a creative way to create interesting powerpoitns
for pretty much anything and it was launched in
April 2009. I was first introduced to prezi by a
media AS teacher. It helped me to collaborate my
ideas onto one massive ‘canvas’ Prezi allows me
to upload photos and embed videos from
Youtube and can directly be embedded onto my
blog.
13. Filming
• To actually go ahead and make my teaser
trailer, I had to become familiar with Apple
macs as I am not to used to these. Having
already had experience with using video
cameras , I am more confident about filming.
However I still had to remind myself about
how to use Final Cut pro. I didn’t use any new
version as I had already practice abit with the
version I was given and would rather stick to
the knowledge I already had.
14. Transferring data across
• Without the use of USBS I would have most
probably been lost. It enabled me to save and
transfer photos, documents and videos which
is everything I needed for my blog posts. It
made transferring between computers
possible.
15. Editing
• I did all m editing in Final Cut pro. I did abit in
imovie but it is almost to basic and didn’t
allow me to add effects I found final cut pro
very hard at the start as I had little knowledge
in the software but after watching a few
tutorials on www.youtube.com I felt a lot
more confident about it all.
16. Poster and magazine-PHOTOSHOP
• For my photographs I used a canon camera
500D. I used this camera as I cold capture high
quality photographs . I was then able to open
them up into photoshop where I was then
able to then easily edit them for my poster
and magazine cover.
17. Difficulties I had
• Error, error error.. All very extremely irritating
issues that can very quickly annoy and frustrate
you. The error codes where irritating and would
randomly pop up when trying to do something
for example in Final cut pro it would tell me a lot
of the time that my clip length was to long to cut
down. This in fact made no sense as that isn't
possible. These error codes where not helpful in
the slightest when you are in the middle of
editing and it doesn’t even make it clear to you
what the problem is!
18. Technological convergence
• You are able to notice that everything is
accessible on the computer and different
formats such as cameras and video cameras
are compatible with the computer. This is a
technological convergence once upon a time it
wouldn’t have been possible to have al these
different formats accessibly all on one
computer.
