Billy Rosenthal used various media technologies throughout the construction, research, planning, and evaluation of his music video project. He used SurveyMonkey to create surveys for his focus group, YouTube to upload his animatic, focus group analysis, and final music video for feedback. Google was used for research and accessing other sites like SlideShare. His phone was used for communication with actors and playing music during filming. Prezi and SlideShare were used for creating and sharing online presentations. Adobe Premier Pro and Photoshop were used for editing video and images. A DSLR camera was used to film high quality footage. And Tumblr was used as a blogging platform to share all project work and gather feedback.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

1. Evaluation Question 4:
HOW DID YOU USE MEDIA TECHNOLOGIES IN THE CONSTRUCTION AND
RESEARCH, PLANNING AND EVALUATION STAGES? – BILLY ROSENTHAL
2. Survey Monkey
Survey Monkey was used to create my survey for my target audience. The
site was incredibly useful and also very easy to maneuver through which
was excellent for me as I didn’t need to waste loads of time figuring out
how to work the site. The site allowed me to create questions, whether it
be multiple answer, rating questions or even ‘type your own answer’
questions to give my focus group the maximum amount of freedom when
answering their questions.
There’s only one downside to SurveyMonkey however which luckily I didn’t
run into but it’s now a paid service and not a free service anymore unless
you created account before the change which luckily I did.
3. YouTube
YouTube was used massively throughout the duration of my time creating
my music video. Examples of it being used was during planning to upload
my focus group analysis as well my animatic. Without YouTube, I also
would not of been able to upload my music video to the web and would
only be able to be viewed by audiences around my computer. It also has a
comment section below videos which was useful as people managed to
comment on my video giving me feedback after they had watched it.
It also helped during research as it enabled me to watch popular artists
music videos tog ain inspiration for my own.
There was only one negative that I had discovered during my time using
YouTube and it was that it would take an age just to upload and render
one video.
4. Google
Google was used in every aspect of creating my music video as it was the
main link to all the websites and images that I had used during production.
Google is a search engine which enables me to search for anything on the
internet such as SlideShare that I am currently using now and of course
YouTube.
During my time using google I ran into no problems at all apart from when
I couldn’t access it due to a poor internet connection which isn’t anything
to do with Google on their behalf.
5. Mobile Phones
Due to me being a typical teenager, I always have my phone on me
wherever I go as I use it to communicate with family and friends and it
keeps me updated on the news around the world. During my time making
my music video it served a bigger purpose than just that, it enabled me to
contact my actors for meetups at certain times as well as enabling me to
tell them what I needed them to wear in certain shots and scenes. It also
allows me to download the Tumblr app onto my phone which enabled me
to upload to my blog on the go if I didn’t have a computer nearby.
I also used my phone during the filming of my music video to play out
loud the song that the actors are performing to to get the perfect lip sync
for my shots. This made my music video seem more believable as it looked
as if my actors were genuinely singing the song
6. Prezi & Slideshare
Prezi allowed me to create online presentations. The reason why it sets itself
away from the typical software of Microsoft PowerPoint, is that it enabled the
user to upload their presentation online which shares it with other users. Prezi
also has a wide range of customizable templates to suit whatever genre of
presentation you need whether it be a resume to a poster. At first, it may take
a little while to get used to the animation tools and to create a stunning
presentation but after a couple of minutes on the site you start to learn the
mechanics really quickly.
SlideShare is slightly different to Prezi as rather than creating content on their
site and then sharing it with other users, you upload your documents such as
word documents and powerpoints from your computer to the site instead. It is
incredibly useful as it’s then easy to upload my work onto the site which
creates a unique link for my work and is then able to be shared onto my
Tumblr
7. Adobe Premier Pro
I am quite familiar with Premier Pro as I commonly use it to create my own
YouTube videos. This was incredibly useful as I felt I had an advantage over
the others in the group as I didn’t need to learn any of the tools within the
software as I already knew what they did and where they were.
I used Premier Pro for my final music video, my focus group and my
animatic.
Although the software is great, I did run into quite a few issues with it
which I normally run into when using it in my own time too. The program
would crash on so many occasions during rendering which is incredibly
annoying as this meant I had to restart the process all over again which
took away a lot of my time during production.
8. Adobe Photoshop
Photoshop is a software which is owned by the same company as Premier
Pro and is used to edit images and short videos. I have had experience
with Photoshop in the past as it used to be a hobby of mine to convert old
photos and restore them again.
I used Photoshop to create the thumbnail of my music video, I managed to
blur the background of the image and add black bars to the top and
bottom of the thumbnail to make it more authentic and realistic.
I also used Photoshop to create both my Digipak and my Magazine Advert.
9. DSLR Camera
I, along with many of my classmates, used a Nikon D32000 to shoot all my
shots for my music video. These cameras are highly regarded for having
immaculate HD images and is also praised for it’s lightweight and easy
access for the most inexperienced photographer/ videographer.
The fact that the camera was able to shoot in 1080p video was a massive
bonus too as it made the image much more clearer and made the video
seem as if it was shot by a top tier filming camera.
10. Tumblr
Tumblr is a blogging social network platform which enables users to
participate in blog entries and multimedia content. Tumblr is where you
will find ALL of my media coursework as it is a convenient and handy site
that enables me to title my posts, link other websites and upload images
and caption them too! The fact that you can embed videos onto the site
helps dramatically for anyone reading my blog as they can watch the video
on Tumblr and then read my feedback or obvservations on the video
below the embedded video in the same post.
The layout of Tumblr was also very easy to handle, when creating a post,
you have 7 types of post that you can post onto your blog which are
shown below.
