The Post-Relational Reality Sets In: 2011 Survey on Unstructured DataMarkLogic Corporation
The "Big Data" influx is upon us—terabytes and gigabytes of bits and bytes that are overwhelming IT infrastructures. This growth is unprecedented and much of it consists of unstructured information, which is creating new types of challenges in terms of governance, management and security practices. A new survey finds that companies are only beginning to grasp the complexities created by all this new unstructured data. Even the most mature organizations that acknowledge they depend on unstructured data still do not have effective governance or best practices in place. The survey results imply that companies are missing the opportunity to leverage the full value of this unstructured data. Download the complete survey report.
Why MarkLogic: Addressing the Challenges of Unstructured Information with Pur...MarkLogic Corporation
This paper describes why MarkLogic Server helps organizations leverage unstructured information more effectively. It is intended for technology executives and project leaders who recognize the potential value possible by taking better advantage of the estimated 70 to 90 percent of today's "unstructured" information. For commercial organizations, this may lead to competitive advantage or new business opportunities, while government agencies may obtain greater mission advantage.
This paper is also relevant for readers who recognize the most commonly used tools today are not optimized to leverage unstructured information since most were designed for structured data. 2. While planning and research i used a lot of different
media technologies and programmes including:
3. I used the computer and my phone a lot in
the process of research and planning.
These two technologies allowed to to browse
in websites and use programmes which
would be very beneficial not only for my
research and planning, but also the
construction.
4. I mainly used the internet to do my research and planning. The main
platform I used for inspiration wasYoutube. I usedYoutube in order to
watch previous students short films.
In watching other short films inYoutube I became aware of typical
conventions of a drama genre, as well as what i like and what i don’t like.
I particularly liked howYoutube had a recommended for you section. This
came in useful when i was browsing for songs, as it suggested many
songs by the same artists and also the same genre.
These short films made me think about how i could use or develop what
they have done into my own short film.
Watching other short films also influenced my short films not only
visually but also how long my films should be etc.
I also listened to potential music for my short film in youtube.
ThereforeYoutube has been a massive contributing factor in the creation
of my short film.
5. I used blogger to document my research and findings. In a
sense, i was using it like a diary.
Every time I made progress in my media products i would
document it in my blog.
Here i could go back on research that i have previously done
and apply it to my media products. For example, i am not
very good at remembering song titles and artists, therefore i
referred to my blog in the selection of music for my short
film.
I also used blogger to see what my other classmates are
doing. This gave me a chance to compare our work and to
see inspiration.
6. I used iTunes in storing and researching music
which i would then use for my short film.
I found iTunes particularly useful as it has the
names of the songs as well as the artists. And
also telling you where you are in a
song, therefore i could get the precise
timings of the song.
7. In the construction of my media products i used many
technologies including:
8. I used my Nikon D500 for the filming of my short film.
I found this very easy to use as i use it in a lot of my
photography, and i have been using it for almost 2
years.
However in filming, i didn't check the setting of the
camera. This gave my film more of a grainy final
outcome rather than a very high definition footage.
I also used this camera for the images used in the
ancillary tasks.
Along side this camera, i also used a tripod in filming
as well as when i took the images.
9. I used iMovie to edit my short film. A programme in the iMacs
specialised for film editing.
As i didn't have a mac at home, i had to do all my editing in school.
This was a bit of a problem, as i could edit when i want.
I found iMovie a struggle to use at first, as i only used it once or
twice before. However due to its easy features i got the hang of it
after a few days.
I found iMovie very effective in terms of control. I was able to turn
my vision into reality.
I particularly like how easy it was to overlay the music. This was my
main problem when I tried to edit inWindows Movie Maker.
The only problem i would say i had with Imovie was with adding
credits.
10. I used Adobe Photoshop Elements for the
construction of my Magazine article and my
Poster.
I found Photoshop very easy to use as i have
used it many times.
Similarly to iMovies, i found it easy to turn my
vision into the final products.
Photoshop also gave me a wide selection of
fonts. Considering that this is not what its known
for, it gave me a lot of choices and i think that
the fonts i used was successful in terms of what i
was trying to achieve.
11. Main problem i had with the Nikon D500 was i
had the ISO number really high. In
photography, this would give my images a
grainy outcome. And it also did this in my
footages. Giving a low definition final
outcome which is not ideal.
12. I thought blogger was very good in for
planning and research. As i was able to give
titles to each posts, and organise my work.
My main problem with blogger was i couldnt
upload a video or a slideshow without
uploading it onto a internet based
programme:Youtube, slideshare.
This was a problem as if i didn't have my work
in school i have no other way of accessing
them.
13. My initial plan was to upload my short film into youtube.
This would have been the best way of sharing as youtube
is made for sharing. There are links and buttons which are
easily accessible which allows people to share.
Therefore in theory this would be good to maximise views
and activity for my short film
However, i did not grant permission to use the songs i used
for my short film online.
Therefore i had to upload it onto youtube in a private
account as this is what me and the music companies i was
emailing agreed to.
This is a massive in convince as the viewers of my short
film is limited.
