2. To develop my practical skills on premiere pro we worked on a cowboy shootout scene, doing this helped improve my skills
on premiere pro by using the different tools such the graphics tool to add text in and we also learned how to add effects on
the text, and the bin tool to add all of your clips into different folders which helps with organising. You also have the unlink
tool which unlinks audio from clips, then there is adjustment tool which helps when adding filters and you want to put in on
every clip. We also learned about different softwares to use to find copyfree right music and fonts. Working on the cowboy
shootout helped practice and learn more about filming techniques and camera shots. As we were working in groups this
also helped communication skills, like communicating how the shots were going to be taken.

3. Planning and shooting
Before filming the scene, planning was needed, we first had to decide what was roles were being assigned like who
the actors are going to be and who is going to be working with the camera so by communicating with each other we
then had the roles decided. For the shoot as a group, we planned where the filming was going to take place, we shot
the scene on the grass right next to the arts academy. To plan how we were going to take the shots like choosing the
different camera shots and composition we made a storyboard and drew the scene, this made it easier to know how
the video was going to be. For this video to work out we needed to work together by communicating we helped
make the shoot successful, there wasn’t any problems with the shoot.
4. Editing
After finishing shooting the scene, I now had to edit those clips on premiere pro I started by taking those clips from the SD card and putting them
on my one drive before making a new project in premiere pro I sorted through the videos to see which ones were suitable. I also needed to find
copyright free music that can be used for the western video, so I went on something called pixabay I found music that was suitable for the video I
decided to choose my music already before editing so that I had it ready.
After that I then imported my clips to premiere pro and organised them into bins this helps me know which clips are what which makes it easier to
edit. I then looked at the video on the viewing tab before moving them into the timeline and decided how long I wanted the clips and what I
wanted the clips to include, I used the razor tool to cut parts of the clips. After doing that I then placed them into the timeline in the order I
wanted them to be, and then started editing them by using video adjustments like a fade into black.
I also unlinked the audio from the video because I didn’t need them and included the copyright free music that I had chosen for the video
and added In a fade in and fade out. I included a gunshot effect at the end of the video. I added a title sequence at the start of the video using a
western font that I had chosen on dafont which matched the theme of the video. I made three different versions of the western video, the first
one was just a normal one which included everything that I had talked about, I also decided to make another one using a black and white filter to
show a range of different kind of videos. The other one that I had made was I added a western style filter on the video to make it look more like
the theme of what the video
5. western draft 1
This is my first draft for the western video, this is just a simple edit, first I organised the clips in the way I wanted them to be,
I included a title at the start and called it 'western' because this was my first draft, I didn’t add a font on from dafont and just
used a default one that premiere pro has. Although this shows that I can add text to the video this isn't the best font and
doesn’t match the theme, so I need to make some improvements and show a range of experimentation. I then added a dip
in black effect on some of the videos that needed it to make the video more creative and interesting. I also added in a sound
effect and music, I did music which matches the theme of the video from pixabay, the sound that I gotten is a gun shot
effect and placed it at the end of the video. I included the sound to make the video more like a western scene. Doing this
helps me learn to use different techniques a tools on premiere pro which is important for when I need to do my film the city
promotional video. Overall, the video that I had made is a good example for a western video, although it is very simple and
plain therefore, I need to make more drafts to make it look better though.
6. Western video draft
This is the other draft that I had made for the western practical, for this draft I had made some improvements that were needed. The
clips were in the same order and I had kept the music I had gotten for pixabay, and I included the gunshot effect at the end of the
video. Although the font doesn’t match the theme of the video it is different from the other drafts, it also has effects which makes the
text bold. I also went on the adjustments layer or premiere pro and changed the colour of the whole video and made it black and
white, I did this to show the video in different aspects by using different tools. Doing this makes the video fit the theme more because
it looks like and old black and white western film, it also enhances the details of the video and captures the audiences' attention to the
light, shadows and composition. I like how this video has turned out and its better than the other one that I did because of the
improvements that I made, although there are still some things on this draft that could be improved for example the font andmaybe
using a different filter on the video. Overall, doing this has helped me learn and practice by using different techniques onpremiere pro
and I also understand when something needs to be improved, this will help me for when I need to make my video for 'film the city'.
7. Organising for western
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ti2swC
m4n8Y
These screenshots show my planning for the final western video, I added
my videos from the SD card to a folder in OneDrive and then imported
them to premiere pro and placed the in bins, I also went on pixabay to
find some western music which matches the theme. I also went on
dafont and found a western font to put on my title. I also wanted to add
an overlay on the western video, so I chose a one that I found on
YouTube that looks like an old western movie and included the link.
9. Western video draft 3
This is my final video edit that I had did for the western practical, this one is the best edit I did out of all of them. I kept all the videos in the
same order, kept the same music and the gunshot effect at the end of the video. Although For this video I made more improvements for
the video to look more like the style of a western film, I looked for fonts that I could use for my text so that it fits the theme which I had
found on dafont. For the text I included the title I called it 'Western' I included effects on the text which helps make the text bolder, I also
included a text for the end of the video I like how this turned because it easy to read and it also establishes the mood of what the video is
about.
After that I moved to editing the way the video looks, I included an overlay effect that I got from youtube, I moved it so that it fitted the
whole screen and changed the opacity so that you can still see the video and the overlay. I did this to make the edit look more like an old
western which turned out good as the video looks more improved and the style of the video looks better.
I then included an adjustment layer on the timeline and looked at the filter effects, premiere pro has default filters that you can use to make
the hue of your video look different. I had chosen gold western as this changes the saturation of the video to look more brighter this also
helps set the mood of the video so that the audience also understands what the theme of the video is. Overall, this video turned out good
and I had learned a lot from using techniques and tools to makes improvements on each video it's good practice for when I make my other
video because I know how to work premiere pro by using the different techniques and tools.
10. Editing evaluation
Doing the editing has helped me learn how to do more on premiere pro that I didn’t know
how to do, I am more confident on using the different tools on premiere pro like the effects and
the overlays and including music. Using the skills that I now know on premiere pro this is going
to help me with the brief that is called 'film the city' I will be using the different tools on
premiere pro like the effects and including music also adding in text and titles using font
from dafont. Overall, I think it went well with editing using the different tools but I still need to
practice more with other tools in premiere pro.
12. CLOSE UP
A close shot is a type of shot used in filming which adds emotion to the scene because of the way it frames the actors face, making
their response the main focus of the scene. There are many ways that a close shot is used in films such as conveying emotions which draws in
the audiences' focus to the actors' emotions. Another reason why a close shot is used is to show subtle details of the actor for example
an eyebrow raise which helps tell the story. You could also use the shot to change the pace, using a close shot on the actors face to show their
reaction to something which helps the viewer understand what they feel and could also foreshadow about what is going to happen next. A
close shot is also something that is used to tell the audience something important like a character and the significance of their emotions. The
shot is also used to draw attention to specific object to add context to the movie which also helps the audience understand better. A close
shot is used to help relate the story back to the audience by using the shot it helps understand the characters point of view about something
that has happened and what emotions they are feeling. To make a close-up shot effective you need to know about when you will use the close-
up to do that you need to know what camera movement you are going to use, slowly moving the camera helps build tension withing the scene
and you could also abruptly movie the camera which helps show the audience that something is going to happen.
13. EXTREME CLOSE UP
An extreme close-up shot is more intense than the close-up shot which is normally used by showing
the actors eyes, an extreme close-up shot frames the subject with a particular details. The shot is
used for many different effects it depends on how the director choses to uses it for a scene. It can
be used to convey a particular emotion such as fear this also helps bring the audience in the scene
when using this technique.
14. LONG SHOT
A wide shot is a shot the shows the subject within the environment, this shot is used to tell the audience who is in the scene, where the scene
takes place, and when the scene takes place. There is three different kinds of wide shot, you have the wide shot which is filmed to show the
whole actor but is far enough away to establish the actors' location. There is also the very wide shot which emphasis the actors' location and
you can't really see the actor in the shot. You also have the extreme wide shot which is shot from a far distance so you can no longer see the
actor the reason for using the shot is to indicate that the actor might be in the scene. You also have different ways to take shoot a wide shot,
you can use a shot where is shows more than one actor and they are facing each other, there is also the point of view shot which shows the
action of the actor which lets the audience become that character. Then you have over the shoulder shot captures the subjects by moving the
camera behind the shoulder of one of the actor while also showing the other actors. Then you have low angle shot which indicates the power
between the characters. Another shot is the low angle which also indicates the power between characters. You also have the eye level shot
where the camera is placed in eye level with the actor, this gives the audience a perspective of the character in the shot because it shows how
you see people real life. Directors use wide shots for many reasons, to show the audience how a characters relates to their surroundings, it
could also show a lot of details quickly and to explore a landscape which helps the audience engage into the scene.
15. MEDIUM CLOSE UP
A medium shot is filmed from a point of the actor where it stills captures the actors' facial expression
while still leaving some background in the frame, directors use this shot for many reasons one of the
main reason though is to capture intimacy between the actor and viewer. The shot is used for
dramatic and emotional scene for example when an actor get killed off in a movie. The shot is mostly
used in when characters are also talking to each other because it allows the audience to see the
actors' facial expressions, it also can be used to show a character emotional state.
16. ESTABLISHING SHOT
An establishing shot is used in films which lets the audience know the setting for the film they are about to watch, a setting includes the place
and time like the time of the day or the time that the movie is set in. An establishing shot is different from other shots such as they only last for a
few seconds because they are used to set the scene, an establishing shot usually doesn’t include character that are involved in the movie
because the focus is on the setting on where their action of the movie is taken place not the character. Another thing is that establishing shots
don’t include dialogue instead music is used. Establishing shots also set the mood of what the audience might see in the movie, also sometimes
establishing shots are taken by aerial shots so that they whole setting can be captured. Establishing shots are used to introduce a new scene
which helps send the message to the audience, it also clarifies the scenes' location for example using a landmark tells the audience where the
film is taken place this is helpful for movies that move from city to city. The shot also helps ground the scene in time like a specific time of the
day, and supporting details that the audience might not know about the setting while also underscoring elements of the story. The establishing
shot also introduces the concept of what the movie is about.
17. HIGH ANGLE
A high angle shot is a camera angle that Is used in films and is where the camera films the subject from a
high distance, this shot is used to create a narrative of vulnerability because it seems as though the
audience is looking down at the subject, High shots are mostly used in filmmaking. They are different kind of
high angle shots that directors use such as shots that provide information towards the audience that might
not be used in dialogue, you also have a shot which are designed to create an emotional reaction or a sense
of uneasiness to the audience. You also have a high angel shot that shows scenes using a high angel while
using a different shot size to show the background of the scene.
18. LOW ANGLE
A low angle shot involves moving the camera below a subject and angling upwards to
capture them, this shot is used in films to show a perspective of a character looking at the
other character that is involved, the shot also conveys the character in a dominant and
powerful way while the character is looking down at the camera.
19. AERIAL SHOT
An aerial shot is taken from even higher than a bird's eye view shot usually taken from a
helicopter or drone. The shot shows miles of scenery or cities from above in the sky, the actor
may not be in the scene the shot still tells the audience that the actor might be somewhere in
the shot, An aerial shot can also be seen as an omniscient perspective
20. BIRDS EYE VIEW
A bird's eye view shot is where the camera is moved so that it makes the shot is an elevated view of the
subject, it is also called an overhead shot. This shot is used in film to show a scene from a downwards
angle it can be used to show landscapes or actors in films. It's different from an aerial shot as the
camera is placed more nearer so you can see details more clearly.
21. CANTED ANGLE
A canted angle shot which is also called a Dutch angle shot is where the camera tilts to enhance a
disorientating or uneasy feeling in a scene, by making the camera diagonally, the director can show that
something in the scene such as a characters' emotions or to make something feel unsettling and
instability which makes the scene feel disequilibrium to the audience , The camera shot can also make
the scene feel ominous and make the viewer sense that something might happen. Canted angles are
used for dramatic effect which enhances tension, fear and unsteadiness.
22. TRACKING SHOT
A tracking shot is where the camera moves forwards, sideways or backwards in scene tracking shot are usually longer
than other shots as it is following one or more actors while also using a particular setting. To make a tracking shot you
could use a dolly, normally filmmakers use stabilized gimel mounts, Steadicam mounts, motorized vehicles. There are
different kind of tracking shots such as the dolly shot that is when the camera is moved forwards and backwards
along a track. You also have a truck shots which is when the camera is moved left to right. A tracking shot is used to
immerse the audience and allows the audience to experience the movie because they are following the actors on
screen, it makes the audience feels like they are a part of the movie which helps them stay engaged.
23. Zoom shot
A zoom shot is a technique used in filming and its where the camera zooms in a specific subject in a scene
usually it's the actors face. The shot is used to show the emotions of an actors or to make a scene
suspenseful, A zoom shot can also be used to for a dramatic effect. You can use this shot to
direct audiences' attention to details that are shown in the scene or you can use it for an emotional effect.
The closer the camera is to an actors face the more it fills the shot, which can also be used to make more
drama and suspense by showing what is happening up close. This shot also could be used for a
comic effect to show something funny rather than using dialogue.
24. Panning shot
A pan shot is a horizontal camera movement and the camera in which the camera moves left or right while
everything else remains in the same place. They are different ways to use a pan shot such as establishing a
location which helps show a wider perspective to the audience that you wouldn’t see in a single shot. The
shot could also be used to follow movement like panning the camera when an actor is moving. It could also
be used to reveal information such as camera pans to capture the audience attention to details or specific
information. There is another type of shot called the whip pan which is a quicker type of pan shot that is
makes a blur effect this is used to show different parts of a scene or to increase energy is scene, it could
also be used to represent time in a scene.
25. Shallow focus
Shallow focus is when you can see the subject of your scene clearly but everything else is blurry. A
shallow depth of field works well when you want your audience to focus on one thing. To make
shallow focus work you need to know your depth of field which is the area in front of and behind
your subject that appears acceptably sharp, for example if you are shooting in a shallow focus only a
proportion is in focus while all the rest is blurry you can do this by adjusting your aperture or lens.
26. Deep focus
Deep focus is where all elements of the shot are all in sharp focus this helps with details of the
scene. Directors use this for scenes that involve important activity in both the foreground and
the background of the shot. Using this shot allows the audience to see multiple of elements of
the shot which helps provide more visual information about character and the surroundings of
where the scene is taking place and the context of the movie.
28. WES ANDERSON VIDEO
For another practical we worked in groups to make a Wes Anderson themed video, we did take footage in college, but I didn’t
like how I turned out because the videos were not clear another, so I did it outside of college using my phone and took the
videos with the help of my sister. I realised I didn’t take the video in landscape, but it was okay because it still helped me
practice and how to edit the video. I had to used cap cut because I didn’t have access to premiere pro at the time although it
was fine because it still helped me with learning how to edit a video using the different tools to make a Wes Anderson style.
For the start of my video, I included a title which said, 'Wes Anderson inspired' and made it using colours and text font that
matches the theme I liked how the text turned out the only problem was that the text was too small so for future reference if I
ever got a chance to do it again I would rather do it on premiere pro to improve the text and using a camera and taking better
quality videos. For my first shot I included a panning shot while also having my sister sitting in an asymmetrical shot the reason
for doing these shots is because I wanted to incorporate the style that Wes Anderson uses when he takes his shots it turned
out good and it shows what a panning shot should look like. I then included a still shot with my sister showing more of an
asymmetrical shot after that I moved on by taking a tracking shot for my sister walking and I took the shots if different
compositions to show a range of shots. Overall, The video was okay it turned out good, but it wasn’t the best I think for my first
try it was a good attempt although I would of like to make it better
29. Wes Anderson editing
After taking all my shots that I needed to do I then started to edit my videos to make it look more like the style of Wes
Anderson. As premiere pro didn’t work yet I had to find another way to edit them, so I used an editing app called capcut
which was an alright alternative because it had similar tools to premiere pro. I started of by editing the text using the
colour scheme of yellow and orange and used a font that was like a Wes Anderson style, I think the text turned out good
it stood out and the text was easy to read the only problem it wasn’t big enough. When I make my 'film the city video', I
need to make sure that my text is big enough. After adding in my clips, I added in a filter to try and match a colour
scheme in the style of Wes Anderson it turned out good and even though it is on capcut it still helps me practice on how
to add filters on which I could incorporate by making multiple of my 'film the city' video in different styles to show a
range of techniques. I also needed to add copyright free music that sounds like the composer style of Wes Anderson
which I had take from YouTube and the music was copyright free. The only thing that I didn’t include is video movement
which fades in from one video to another, for next time I will add that it and I also need to make sure that I add it in my
'film the city' video. Overall, the editing turned out alright they could have been something that I could have made
better but for my first time doing it I learned some new techniques that will help me for my video that I need to do for
my brief.

30. Screenshots for Wes Anderson video
These are the screen shots that I have taken to show what the process of editing my video, I also
included what kind of font and the colour I had used, and its that videos that I had added In
capcut. Although for the colour filter I had used the adjustments tools on my phone camera by
changing the saturation, warmth and highlights. I also added in the link of where I got the
CopyFree right music.

31. Screenshots for continuity editing task
These are screenshots that I have take for the continuity practical task, I included the videos that I
have taken and was order the videos go in shot by shot. I have also taken a screenshot of what kind
of copyright free music that I had gotten from pixabay.
32. Continuity editing task
For another practical task we worked in a group and shot a video which was about using different camera angles of a
person walking in college to the arts building. We took the footage in college although I didn’t like the way it turned out
as the clips were not clear enough which suggests that the camera was not in focus, even though that was a problem its
still practice to learn different techniques and to understand what to do next time. This will also help me learn that
when I take clips for my film the city and need to make sure that the camera and clips are in focus. To edit the video, I
had to use Capcut as I didn’t have access to premiere pro at that time although it was okay because Capcut still works
the same and has the tool that are needed to edit a video. These videos were taken using a DCLR camera after taking
the videos I then took them from the SD card and put them in a folder in my OneDrive so that I was able to place them
into Capcut. After doing that I place my videos in the order that I wanted them to be, it turned out alright, but I
didn’t add in text which Is something that I am going to have to do when doing my 'film the city' video. For the video I
did add in copyright free music which makes the video slighter better, doing this helps because I need to add music for
my promotional video that I am going to do, adding music makes videos more interesting. Overall, the edit turned out
alright it was not the best and I much preferred the western practical although it's good practice for when I do my own
edit.
33. Evaluation of practical skills powerpoint
Doing the practical work has given me insight about the kind of work that you do involving media and gaining new
skills in different aspects of the work that we have done. Even though I know how to use a camera I had learned all
the different settings that are available on a DCLR camera which helps me better understand about the workings of
the camera. This will help me when I work on future projects and when I am also working independently. Working
on the different shot types helped me plan and practice about not only knowing what they are but the effect of
the shots this helped contribute to planning my film the city video so I know how exactly to take it. Doing the
different practical video including the western, Wes Anderson and continuity task gave me practice on how to
shoot a video and helped me learn on how what kind of shot types to use to make a video more creative and to
set the scene about what that video is about. What helped me the most is learning how to use the editing
software and the different tools involved to make a video look good, this gave me good practice and will help with
the brief. Overall, the practical work has been good and has helped me learn new skills and develop in my practical
skills.
