Powerpoint 3 Film the city (production and post production) .pptx
1. PRE-PRODUCTION DIARY
Before the filming started, I ensured that I had done some planning this is vital for when planning
any filming to make sure everything is fine on the day. What needed to be doing was risk-
assessments this is important when filming anywhere because this it to determine the possible
risks, they likelihood of it happening and the consequences, also subsequently implementing
control measures. This is to ensure that the places that we were going to were going to be safe and
that everyone would be protected if hazards were to occur.
2. Permission forms
Before the filming, we had to ensure that we had permission to film in the places that we were
going to, this is important to do with your pre-production but you need to know If you are
allowed to. Locations that we went to like the winter gardens are owned by the council so you
need to contact them and ask their permission beforehand also filling in a permission form.
For the risk assessments we also had to do the risk calculation this is where you have to times both the likelihood
of anything happening and the consequences together to go a final score, which will help you know what to do.
3. Storyboard
Before filming I had also planned a storyboard and drawn some sketches in the
boxes of the different locations that we went to, the drawings show how I am going
to capture those shots by using different camera angels and movements. Doing this
helps me save time in production because I already know how I might take
my videos: it also helps with knowing if there are going to be any errors when
shooting any videos. Using a storyboard helps organize the order that the shots are
going used in my video and provides a visual representation of ideas and concepts
making information more understandable to me and the audience.
4. Production diary
Before meeting at the fire station:
We had to meet at 9:30 at the fire station I made sure to plan what I was going to do
beforehand to the trip. Travelling to the location I got the bus so to make sure I was
going to arrive on time I looked at the bus timetable the day before to see which bus I
was going to take in the morning. I had to make sure that my phone was fully charged
before leaving and I also had to make sure I had enough data and storage which was
important because I was going to be taking my videos on my phone.
5. Production diary
9:30 The Fire Station, Empire theatre and other places around there
We first filmed around the fire station, empire theatre and other places around there, before taking my videos I had to make sure that the settings were
correct on my phone camera and that the videos that I was taking were in focus. What was also important was making sure the composition and movement
was okay when filming that means making sure every element that I wanted in my video was included, and making sure that when I was moving my
camera when taking panning shots that the camera wasn’t shaky to ensure that the quality of the video was good. Also, when taking the videos, I wanted
them without anyone in so I had to make sure to try and not include anyone by taking my videos at the right time. I also tried to take a range of different
shots, for example close ups, panning shots and tracking shots doing close ups enhances the details of what is being shot. Also, the reason for doing
panning shots Is so that the audience can see more of the buildings that are being shot. Even though I had taken different kinds of shots, I would have liked
to include the rule of thirds. I had to make sure when taking my videos that they were being saved to my phone such backing them up on my phones
storage if something were to happen but also backing them in other apps, I had the one drive app on my phone which means that I could move them there
and the videos are already on the computer ready to edit them on premiere pro. Also taking more than one video is important just so there are a range that
I can choose from to see which ones are suitable. Even though I was taking these videos independently communication is also important especially when
filming to make sure someone is not in the shot. Overall, the shots at these places were taken well and I like how they turned out my favourite shots were
of the empire.

10:00-12:00 The Winter Gardens and Museum
After filming at The Fire Station, we then walked the Winter gardens at the time we needed to be there and took some filming in there, beforehand we
got introduced to one of the workers who runs workshops, I listened to what she had to say about the museum and the rules such as not being able to
film certain artwork and I also got an understanding about the museum and the different activities that are available,
this is good to listen and engage because the workers know that you are interested and could be asked to come back again. I then started to film around
the place I had taken a picture of my storyboard so I know what I needed to take my videos of and which camera shots I was going to use. Before even
taken videos I had to make sure that the camera settings on my phone was still okay and in focus, I wanted to try and take a range of different range of
camera shots the ones I include was close ups I used this to show the audience the details of the museum the shots turned out well,
I included panning shots with overhead shots and included an arial shot, the reason for doing this is to show more of what is being filmed which helps
the audience who haven't been to these places to have an idea on what the winter gardens looks like. The only shot that I didn’t take which I needed to
was the establishing shot which was important but I still added in a clip which shows that the place I was taking videos at was the winter gardens. As this
was a public place with members of the public walking around, being respectful was important such as making sure nobody is in my shots and keeping a
formal attitude. I keep track of how long my videos were going to be as I didn’t want them to long as the promotional video was only going to be 90
seconds long and I made sure to meet back in time.
Jennie lambert who worked at the winter gardens had talked to use about
the different cultural venues in Sunderland including the winter
gardens who do a range of workshops such as craftwork and different
activities.

12.30 - 14.00 Seventeen Nineteen
After taking the videos at the winter gardens, we then walked to Seventeen Nineteen which is a venue the hold events. We got introduced to
somebody who works there, and they showed us around the place and gave use some defined informative facts about the buildings. The tour
was very helpful because it gave me an understanding about the history about the and what the place has to offer including the events and
workshops that they do; The worker was very helpful as he talked about what would be good to shoot.
Before I even took my videos, I had to make sure that my camera settings were working also making sure the camera was in focus. For the
camera shots that I had taken I want to include clips that show the setting of the building, so I included an establishing shot which helps
establish where the location of where I am taking my videos.
I also included panning shot to show more of what is being filmed which helps the audience who haven't been to these places to have an
idea on what the venue looks like, the best shot that I had taken was of the stained-glass window. Although I didn’t take as many clips but it's
fine because the audience will still get the idea of what I did and it works for the brief it is showing the cultural experiences that the venues
have.
8. Postproduction diary organising
Pixbay music
Dafont
These are the screenshots that I have taken showing me organising everything such as the text font that im using
for the title and information and the copyright free music that I had got from something called pixabay. I added all
my clips on OneDrive and then to premiere pro and organised them all into bins, so I don’t get confused when
editing my videos that I need before I start to edit on premiere pro.
9. Postproduction diary- film the city final product
After filming my footage on my phone, I moved them all to the OneDrive app, so I have access to them on the computer ready to
edit on premiere pro, I organized my videos into different bins to make it easier to choose which footage I need first. First, I
started by adding a graphic at the start of the video and titled it based on what the brief is which is 'Film the City' and then went
on Da font and chose what kind of font I wanted and what would suit the video. I took screenshots of what the font is and show
what it would look like with other words to show a range of examples, I then added effects on the text such as a shadow which
makes the font standout more and I also add in and adjustment which moves the graphics to the beginning. I then started to add
in my videos that I had taken and began by editing the clips from the fire station. I also added in text which included a description
of what the fire station is, and I went on da font and chose a font which suited the video better. Also, for the font I included
effects to make the text bolder, I included a background on the text because it makes the text more visible. I like how the clips
turned out it links back to the brief and is a good example because it shows what the fire station is.

Video effects
Text effects
I have taken the screenshots to show what the video look like while
I was editing it, these are drats that I had done before adding in the
sound, I realised while editing that there was a spelling mistake and
that the text was not long enough for someone to read it, so I fixed
those issues before exporting my final edit.
11. Film the city draft

wCm4n8Y
This is one of the draft edits that I had made, the order of the clips are the same, but I wanted to show a range of techniques that I had learned when doing
the practical work, first was changing the way the graphics at the beginning looks. I went on YouTube to find and overlay of an old film reel effect, the
reason for choosing this effect is because I wanted to make an old film version of the promotional video. I wanted to try an add the overlay on the
whole video, but It didn’t work, and I didn’t like the way it looked so I just included it for the title. Although I did include another overlay which was an
effect of an old film, I moved the overlay so that it fits the whole screen and used the opacity tool so that you can still see the video through the overlay.
This isn't my final video, but I like how It turned out and it looks like was I was attempting to make. As for the text I left it the same because I wanted it to
standout and for it to be visible so that the audience will be able to read it. Overall, the draft looks good, and it shows the techniques and tools I had
learned from doing the practical work.
12. Film the city draft
This is another draft that I had completed for the film the city brief, I wanted to make each draft look different to show
different technical skills that I had learned for the doing the practical work. I did keep everything the same but For this
draft I wanted to show what it would look like with a different hue. I went on the colour tool and had added a filter onto
the video called ST blue this helps the video standout and add a special effect which increases the contrast and exposure
while also enhances the mood and setting of the video. I like how the drafts have turned out the all show different
techniques used although what I would change is maybe changing the music and the font text.
13. Evaluation of production and post production
The production and post- production worked out well, doing the risk assessments and the storyboard has
helped me with my understand about the risks that could occur when filming and helps me practice for when
I make my own risk assessments for future projects. Doing this helps me save time in production because I
already know how I might take my videos: it also helps with knowing if there are going to be any errors
when shooting any videos. The production diary is important because it shows documentation of the work I
have done for this project and demonstrates the development and skills that i have learned. I have also
included documentation of my editing this shows the process of how I made my videos and what my finished
project looks like.
