POWER QUALITY
• Power Quality is described as the variation of
voltage, current and frequency in power system.
• If electrical equipment operates correctly and
reliably without being damaged or stressed, we would
say that the electrical power is of good quality.
• On the other hand, if the electrical equipment
malfunctions, is unreliable, or is damaged during
normal usage, we would say that the power quality is
poor.
SOLUTION TO POWER QUALITY
PROBLEM
• Passive Filters have been most commonly used to
limit the flow of harmonic currents in distribution
systems.
• The performances of Conventional method (LC
Filter) is not satisfactory due to the drawbacks.
• Among the different new technical options available
to improve power quality, D-STATCOM have proved
to be an important and flexible alternative to
compensate for current and voltage disturbances in
power distribution systems.

DSTATCOM
• STATCOM is a controlled reactive power source
which provides the desired reactive power generation
and absorption by means of VSC.
• The VSC consist of shunt Transformer, DC
Capacitor, IGBT with back to back diode making a
bridge.
• STATCOM is an adjustable voltage source behind a
reactance.
FUNCTIONAL MODEL OF STATCOM
SYSTEM DESCRIPTION
• The model contains STATCOM for load balancing,
power factor correction and voltage regulation to
small isolated alternator feeding distribution system
supplying power to a linear unbalance load.
• VSC as a DSTATCOM connected in parallel with the
system.
• DSTATCOM considered here as a controlled reactive
source.
• Three phase AC supply voltages and DC link
voltages are sensed and converted into their per unit
values to fed the two PI Controller and fuzzy logic
controller.
• A capacitor is connected in parallel with VSI to
obtain self supporting DC bus to maintain constant
voltage in the system.
• VSI consist IGBT switches fired by gate pulse
generated through the Hysteresis controller.
• System also consist of linear R-L load.

CONCLUSIONS
• Fuzzy Logic Control used for regulation of voltage
and correction of power factor with the help of
DSTATCOM is proposed here. As the load changes
or load is reduced there are variations in the load
current, voltage and DC capacitance voltage.
• DSTATCOM is able for correction to power factor,
load balancing and regulation in the voltage profile.
• It is useful for aircraft, ship, islands, submarine and
isolated remote power generation where grid
connected power generation is not really available
and we need to generate and distribute AC power.
FUTURE SCOPE
• Improve Power Quality of a small isolated alternator
system by some advance techniques.
• Implementation of Sugeno Fuzzy Controller (SFC)
for modeling and controlling of DSTATCOM
• In order to obtain voltage regulation by using two
Fuzzy logic controller.
• Power factor correction can be improved using the
above.

  • 3. POWER QUALITY • Power Quality is described as the variation of voltage, current and frequency in power system. • If electrical equipment operates correctly and reliably without being damaged or stressed, we would say that the electrical power is of good quality. • On the other hand, if the electrical equipment malfunctions, is unreliable, or is damaged during normal usage, we would say that the power quality is poor.
  • 4. SOLUTION TO POWER QUALITY PROBLEM • Passive Filters have been most commonly used to limit the flow of harmonic currents in distribution systems. • The performances of Conventional method (LC Filter) is not satisfactory due to the drawbacks. • Among the different new technical options available to improve power quality, D-STATCOM have proved to be an important and flexible alternative to compensate for current and voltage disturbances in power distribution systems.

  • 7. DSTATCOM • STATCOM is a controlled reactive power source which provides the desired reactive power generation and absorption by means of VSC. • The VSC consist of shunt Transformer, DC Capacitor, IGBT with back to back diode making a bridge. • STATCOM is an adjustable voltage source behind a reactance.
  • 9. SYSTEM DESCRIPTION • The model contains STATCOM for load balancing, power factor correction and voltage regulation to small isolated alternator feeding distribution system supplying power to a linear unbalance load. • VSC as a DSTATCOM connected in parallel with the system. • DSTATCOM considered here as a controlled reactive source.
  • 10. • Three phase AC supply voltages and DC link voltages are sensed and converted into their per unit values to fed the two PI Controller and fuzzy logic controller. • A capacitor is connected in parallel with VSI to obtain self supporting DC bus to maintain constant voltage in the system. • VSI consist IGBT switches fired by gate pulse generated through the Hysteresis controller. • System also consist of linear R-L load.

  • 22. CONCLUSIONS • Fuzzy Logic Control used for regulation of voltage and correction of power factor with the help of DSTATCOM is proposed here. As the load changes or load is reduced there are variations in the load current, voltage and DC capacitance voltage. • DSTATCOM is able for correction to power factor, load balancing and regulation in the voltage profile. • It is useful for aircraft, ship, islands, submarine and isolated remote power generation where grid connected power generation is not really available and we need to generate and distribute AC power.
  • 23. FUTURE SCOPE • Improve Power Quality of a small isolated alternator system by some advance techniques. • Implementation of Sugeno Fuzzy Controller (SFC) for modeling and controlling of DSTATCOM • In order to obtain voltage regulation by using two Fuzzy logic controller. • Power factor correction can be improved using the above.
