This document discusses power line communication (PLC) applications for smart grids. It begins by outlining the need for improved communication networks in electrical grids to address capacity issues and enable remote control. It then reviews various wired and wireless communication technologies that could be applied to smart grids, including fiber optics, wireless, and PLC. The potential for using PLC is investigated through modeling a PLC system in MATLAB. The results show attenuation is lowest for medium voltage transmission and indicate PLC is well-suited for smart grid applications. The document concludes PLC can help enhance grid reliability, efficiency and resilience when applied to smart grids.
Performance evaluation of VLC system using new modulation approachjournalBEEI
We propose a modified OFDM modulation based on multiband scheme for visible light communications (VLC) system. The method called catenated-OFDM VLC system can efficiently boost the propagation distance and combat multipath induced the inter symbol interference and inter carrier interference. Design parameters such as number of optical bands, input power, distance and data rate are varied to see their effect on the system performances. Simulation analysis is done using Optisys software Ver. 11.0. The results show that the proposed system offers a good performance at longer transmission distance of 12 m for input power of 2 dBm in case of Band=3 with 10 Gbps data rate. BER curves also indicates that the proposed system can be operated at very high data rate of 15 Gbps. This exhibits the ability of the proposed system to be one of the candidate for future optical wireless communication system.

environment, the hybrid system assumes Rayleigh fading channel and Additive White Gaussian Noise
(AWGN) on wireless medium and Symmetric alpha stable (SαS) noise on powerline channel. The outcome
of comparison parameters verifies the superior performance of MITA interleaver in a hybrid system over
the IDMA scheme.

Link Adaptation for Microwave Link using both MATLAB and Path-Loss Toolijeei-iaes
The inherent multipath transmission on wireless channels usually leads to signal fading which eventually degrades the system performance. In mitigating this problem, link adaptation has been identified as a promising scheme that helps in maximizing the system spectral efficiency (SE) in dispersive wireless channels. In this paper, link adaptation based on adaptive modulation and coding was used to study the performance of M-ary quadrature amplitude modulation radio system subjected to multipath fading. MATLAB® scripts and Simulink model were developed to compare the effect of wireless channel on different constellation sizes. Also, transmission link on Federal University of Technology Akure campus’ path terrain was designed with the aid of path-loss® tool application software in order to further analysis the effect of using different modulation formats on the system performance. This paper investigates the feasibility of Timed Efficient Stream Loss-tolerant Authentica- tion to serve security needs of Power Line Communication (PLC) system. PLC network has been identified as the ideal choice to function as the last mile network, deliver load management messages to smart meters. However, there is need to address the security concerns for load management messages delivered over power line communications. The ubiquitous nature of the power line communication infrastructure exposes load management systems (LMS) deployed over it to a security risk. Ordinarily, PLC network does not em- ploy any security measures on which the smart meters and data concentrators can depend on. Therefore, the need to provide a secure mechanism for communication of load man- agement system messages over a PLC network. In LMS, source authentication is of highest priority because we need to respond only to messages from an authenticated source. This is achieved by investigating suitable robust authentication protocols. In this paper we present modifications to Timed Efficient Stream Loss-tolerant Authentication for secure authentica- tion to secure messages for load management over PLC. We demonstrate that PLC can be used to securely and effectively deliver Load Management messages to smart meters, with minimal overhead.

Abstract The migration to 4G networks will bring a new level of expectation to wireless communications. As after digital wireless revolution made mobile phones available for everyone, the higher speeds and packet delivery of 4G networks will make high quality multimedia available everywhere. The key to achieving this higher level of service delivery is a new air interface, OFDM, which is in turn enabled by the high level of performance. OFDM provides a robust signal that requires relatively little power yet uses bandwidth very efficiently. Carriers will benefit from greater flexibility by using OFDM, since in the same spectrum they will be able to offer more channels, including higher ‘bandwidth channels, with more types of services. Currently these systems are still being defined and prototyped. Achieving higher data rates requires OFDM systems to make more efficient use of the bandwidth than CDMA systems. One method of achieving this higher efficiency is through the use of higher order modulation. In this paper we have compared two digital modulation techniques 32QAM and 64QAM used for digital transmission of data. Our main objective to develop this configuration is to compare the performance of each modulation techniques. Comparison is done by Bit Error Rate analysis of both modulation techniques. We have developed existing configurations and improved them with high quality senders and receivers using MATLAB technology. In this paper we have also considered how OFDM can improve the real time video streaming over the wireless network. We have considered the problem of multiuser video streaming over OFDM. OFDM is a multi carrier modulation. The growing interest in Multicarrier Transmission by researchers and product developers motivated us to propose this topic for a special issue of Wireless Video transmission and Communications. A concept of data transmission within downhole telemetry systems in oilfield industry through power lines is presented. Based on this concept, MATLAB/Simulink models simulating communication lines in downhole telemetry systems are built, which can be used as prototypes for development of real systems. The most appropriate signal modulation methods for data transmission in downhole telemetry systems are suggested and discussed. The influence of high-voltage interference on signal transmission through power line from downhole unit to ground based unit is simulated. Usage of error-correcting coding methods for data transmission such as Hamming code, Reed-Solomon code, BCH code is suggested, and its efficiency is demonstrated.

Analysis of System Capacity and Spectral Efficiency of Fixed-Grid NetworkIJCNCJournal
In this article, the performance of a fixed grid network is examined for various modulation formats to estimate the system's capacity and spectral efficiency. The optical In-phase Quadrature Modulator (IQM) structure is used to build a fixed grid network modulation, and the homodyne detection approach is used for the receiver. Data multiplexing is accomplished using the Polarization Division Multiplexed (PDM) technology. 100 Gbps, 150 Gbps, and 200 Gbps data rates are transmitted under these circumstances utilizing various modulation formats. Various pre-processing and signal recovery steps are explained by using modern digital signal processing systems. The achieved spectrum efficiencies for PM-QPSK, PM-8 QAM, and PM-16 QAM, respectively, were 2, 3, and 4 (bits/s)/Hz. Different modulation like PM-QPSK, PM-8-QAM, and PM-16-QAM each has system capacities of 8-9, 12-13.5, and 16-18 Tbps and it reaches transmission distances of 3000, 1300, and 700 kilometers with acceptable Bit Error Rate (BER≤ 2× 10-3) respectively. Peak optical power for received signal detection and full width at half maximum is noted for the different modulations under a fixed grind network.
Due to increasing complexity, space and cost of communication network, the Electric Power Network has been considered a great option for the solution of all problems. Power line communications (PLC) term stands for the technologies for the data communication over the electrical power supply network. Existing power system is not designed for having data transfer. In this paper we have developed a simulation model of power-line for low voltage distribution network in home. Impulse response of the channel is generated in order to characterize the behavior of power line channel for high speed data communication purpose. To represent Multi-branch network mathematically, ABCD matrix parameters are used. Load mismatching is experimented on three parameters multiple loading, multi branch and different cable length and analysis is presented of its effect on impulse response. All the simulation work has been done using MATLAB.

Heap sort is a comparison-based sorting technique based on Binary Heap data structure. It is similar to the selection sort where we first find the minimum element and place the minimum element at the beginning. Repeat the same process for the remaining elements.
