The UBC Portfolio Community of Practice was established in 2003 to investigate the pedagogical benefits and resource implications of implementing e-portfolios across multiple disciplines and contexts. Over 13 projects involved 2000 students and 91 instructors. While activity declined after 2006, the community was revitalized in 2009 with two coordinators working to highlight members' work, foster networking, and develop shared resources through a new online space. The community aims to empower individuals, encourage collaboration, and connect those working on similar eportfolio projects across the university.

Leaders of college OER campaigns from across the US will share will share their successful strategies and tactics for creating a community of practice by participating in and leveraging Community College Consortium for OER (CCCOER) activities.
Etienne Wenger defines communities of practice as “groups of people who share a concern or a passion for something they do and learn how to do it better as they interact regularly.” With over 250 member colleges in 21 states and provinces, CCCOER encourages collaboration between members and invites OER project presentations at monthly advisory meetings. Experienced members advise those who are just getting started and best practices are shared. Access to a community of college OER experts through the CCCOER listserve makes it easier for new members to find and adopt the highest quality OER available in their disciplines.
Monthly webinars featuring OER leaders at community colleges, universities, and educational organizations around the world keep the community informed of new research findings, OER projects, and open policies. Meet-ups at regional and national conferences provide an opportunity to share and promote the OER adoption successes of our members with colleagues throughout higher education.
Panelists will describe how these activities have informed and strengthened their local OER projects, as well as how they are serving as guides to newcomers to the OER field.

Changes in learning and teaching due to COVID-19 have prompted higher education (HE) institutions to develop strategies and skills related to technology-supported education, creating development opportunities that help staff teach and support students in online or blended situations. Using open educational resources (OER) meant training could be developed and localised quickly. However, there has been little research into the use of OER to meet urgent, unanticipated teaching needs. This paper provides a critical reflective account of learning design for the use of OER in a national capacity development initiative in Kenya as part of the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) funded Skills for Prosperity Kenya project. Development of this OER was led by The Open University in partnership with 37 Kenyan universities. The initiative was designed to develop the knowledge and skills of educators, educational leaders, and support staff. The contribution of this paper is that it identifies challenges encountered when adapting OER for use in a technologically low-resourced context, showing how these can be addressed successfully at different learning design stages. Challenges were identified using the 7Cs of Learning Design (Conole, 2014): conceptualise, create, communicate, collaborate, consider, combine and consolidate. The paper concludes with recommendations for design practice and creating and remixing OER.

Communities of practice mediate knowledge and learning of a community (Lave and Wenger 2000). Cassidy et al. (2007) identify more specific communities of educational practitioners engaged in enquiry. CEEBL (Centre for Excellence in Enquiry-Based Learning) interacts with several communities of practice. These communities operate at different scales, from national to a specific school and have different levels of specificity, from very general interest in Enquiry-Based Learning (EBL) to a focus on a particular discipline or even being a specific instance of the delivery of EBL. This poster will describe a number of these networks, drawing from participation and observation.

Dr. Vijay Kumar is Senior Associate Dean of Undergraduate Education and Director of the Office of Educational Innovation and Technology, DUE at MIT. In this capacity he provides leadership for sustainable technology-enabled educational innovation at MIT. In his prior roles at MIT as Assistant Provost and Director of Academic Computing, as well at other institutions, Vijay provided leadership for units engaged in delivering infrastructure and services for the effective integration of information technology and media services in education. Vijay was the Principal Investigator of O.K.I (Open Knowledge Initiative), a MIT-led collaborative project to develop an open architecture for enterprise educational applications.
Vijay is a member of the Advisory Committee of MIT OpenCourseWare (OCW) and a member of the steering committee for I-Campus, the MIT-Microsoft Alliance initiative for educational technology. He is the Executive officer for MIT's Council on Educational Technology. Vijay also served on the Applications Strategy Council for Internet2, as a Trustee of the Corporation for Research and Education Networking (CREN), Chair of the Boards of the Seminars on Academic Computing (SAC) Snowmass, CO and NERCOMP.
Vijay is an active champion of open education efforts: As an honorary Advisor to India's National Knowledge Commission he has been engaged in advancing Open and technology enabled initiatives for educational access and quality in India; He is actively involved in efforts, such as those supported by the Hewlett Foundation, and Curriki to advance the use of Open Educational Resources for improving educational access and quality. He is also an advisor to the Open University of Catalonia.
Vijay has recently co-edited "Opening Up Education: The Collective Advancement of Education through Open Technology, Open Content and Open Knowledge " (MIT Press, August 2008), a book sponsored by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching.
