POLYGONS
Polygons
• The word polygon means
“many angles”
• A closed figure with three
or more sides are called
Polygons.
Examples of Polygons
These are not Polygons:
Types of Polygons
• Triangle
• Quadrilateral
• Pentagon
• Hexagon
• Septagon
• Octagon
• Nonagon
• Decagon
Inner and outer angle
 Inner angle: An angle formed by two
adjacent sides inside the polygon
 Outer angle: An angle formed by two
adjacent sides out side the polygon or an
outer angle of a polygon is formed by
extending one side of a polygon.
INNER ANGLE+OUTER ANGLE OF A POLYGON=1800
Inner and outer angle
Sum of the angles of a Polygon
 The sum of the angles of an
n-sided polygon is (n-2) x
1800
Sum of the outer angles of a Polygon
 The sum of the outer angles
of any Polygon is equal to
3600
Example
Regular Polygons
• A Polygon with equal sides
and angles is called a regular
Polygon.
Examples of a Regular Polygon
• Equilateral triangle
• Square
• Regular Pentagon
• Regular Hexagon, etc
