The Impact of Small and Medium Sized Businesses on Jobs and the Economy
Introduction
The term SME is commonly used to refer to Small and Medium sized Enterprises. The term covers a
variety of definitions as well as measures. However, in most of the various definitions of what is an
SME, employment is the most widely used criterion for categorizing the size of the firm. Moreover,
SMEs are often defined as businesses with fewer than 500 employees. However, a number of
countries, including some in the European Union use a lower cutoff of 250 employees. SMEs are
important in the economy because they have some unique benefits to the economy chief among these
being employment and job creation among others. The following discussion explores the impact of
SME to the economy, especially in regards to employment and the creation of jobs among others.
Discussion
It is already apparent that SMEs are very important in an economy. SMEs make up over 95% of
enterprises and

Thomas Pynchon Oedipa
The first reason why the protagonist in Thomas Pynchon s The Crying Lot of 49 is very unbelievable
is because she is certainly ambiguous. During the band s performance, Oedipa goes to a bathroom and
puts on all the clothes she can find. When she looks in the mirror she sees a beach ball with feet and
begins laughing. John P. Leland noted, Oedipa is a frontierswoman of sorts, though hers is a frontier
where the meaning of meaning the worlds and ours is open to question Oedipa and Metzger eventually
have intimate intercourse, with Miles and his band entertaining them outside by the pool. Afterwards,
they just lie there while baby Igor and his family drown in the TV screen. Another reason why Oedipa

Swimming Coach Research Paper
I have been a swimmer for almost my whole entire life, and have had many challenges to overcome
within this sport. Having two a day practices each two to three hours long, waking up in complete
darkness to get ready for swim meets and jumping into the freezing cold water are all part of the
swimming experience. I have had some very good coaches, and not so good coaches throughout my
12 years of swimming. Coaches are an imperative part of any athlete s career, and having a coach that
is hard to get along with can cause a lot of conflict.
Going into my senior year of high school, I knew that the coming swim season was going to be very
different from the previous three years. We were getting a whole new coaching staff, two swim
coaches, one dive ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We have eight practices each week that consists of five in pool practices and three dryland practices. If
we had a meet on a Saturday, Tuesday evening, or Thursday evening dryland practice would not be
cancelled, and swimmers would still need to attend. This concerned a lot of swimmers since our past
coaches would let us skip practice if we had a reasonable excuse. During finals week, we got a lot of
complaints saying that they needed to skip practice to study for a final, but couldn t afford to miss any
more practices. So instead of skipping practice they would show up and study for their final the
morning of their test. Coach Gayle expected everybody to come to practice, and would put our
attendance and times on a piece of paper at the wall directly in front of the pool. If she wasn t satisfied
with the team percentage she would take the initiative to email the parents telling them to get their
daughter to practice. When the interval was too difficult to make on time, and somebody would
confront her about it she would yell at them to stop complaining. The whole team did the same set but
with different intervals, and she would whistle whenever the fastest lane finished their set making
everybody come back to get ready for the next set. As a captain we got a ton of complaints from the

My Career Path For A Teacher
On October 21, 2015 my cooperating teacher mocked me in front of my class. You see I was the
student teacher in a second grade classroom at Charles Olbon Elementary School. After class I went
home, locked myself in my bedroom and I started pondering my future and my career path. I thought I
would not be a good teacher, why did I choose this career path? I choose this path because my friends
and family saw me a teacher, but I guess they do not know the real me. In 2003 at the age of ten years
old I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. My father saw me down at the kitchen table and strongly
advised me to go into an easy profession. He instructed me to become a teacher, therefore I mindlessly
agreed to his requests. Then when I entered college, I did not enjoy the teaching classes and I told my
friends, family, and fellow teachers. However everyone told me the similar line: you will make a great
teacher, you re just nervous cause you re almost graduating, just stick it out and get your degree. I
listened to others while ignoring my inner voice and passion. Now fast forward to October 23 25th I
ended up skipping student teaching to go into the city for Robert McKee s Story and Storynomics
seminar class. I consider myself a happy go lucky person who is a positive thinker and dreamer
however on this particular day when my mom dropped me off at the bus station I was in a depressed
state of mind. The night before I stayed in my bed didn t eat dinner, and I just cried

Kinsella (1976) defined protein functionality as those physical and chemical properties which affect
the behavior of proteins in food systems during processing, storage, prepration and consumption.
Proteins are linked to functional properties such as solubility, water binding, gelation, foaming and
color, whereas starch is associated with solubility, swelling, water absorption, viscosity, and gelatinize
(Bressani, 1985). Functional properties are physicochemical properties that give information on how a
food ingredient will behave in food system. The functionality of plantain and okara flours can
logically be attributed to its chemical components as determined by raw materials processing and
storage conditions. Properties such as solubility, viscosity, water and fat binding, emulsification,
foaming and gelation are of general interest (Hermansson, 1979). The method of Okaka and Potter
(1977) with some modifications was used for determining the swelling capacity of okara and plantain
flours. Foaming capacity and foaming stability were determined as described by Narayana and
Narasinga Rao, (1982) with slight modifications. Fracture strength of biscuits was measured with the
help of Texture Analyzer (model TA XT2i, Stable Micro systems, Haslemere, U.K) using a 3 point

Female Hysteria In The 1920 s
Female Hysteria
Hysteria of both genders was widely discussed in the medical literature of the nineteenth century.
Women were considered to have exhibited a wide array of symptoms according to motherjones.com,
which included faintness, nervousness, sexual desire, insomnia, fluid retention, heaviness in the
abdomen, wetness between the thighs , muscle spasm, shortness of breath, irritability, loss of appetite
for food or sex, and a tendency to cause trouble.
In an episode from the series Miss Fisher s Murder Mysteries, a psychiatrist is seen taking care of
several women in the 1920 s. Each women highlights a symptom. From years of being told there is
something wrong with them, these women have come to believe what they were hearing. One women
removes her clothing whenever possible, another is extremely nervous, and another is unable to
express sadness after her son passed away. Clearly the psychiatrist does care deeply about his patients
and wants them to recover, although his medieval application lacks in favorable results. As the episode
progresses, it comes to light that some of the women are being treated with an electric stimulator. For
some reason, the modern medicine of the day thought ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

matches. I attributed this to poor vision. Although, later his wife disclosed that he is color blind and
not able to see the red. Therefore, he actually knew the score, but did not know the actual score for
each team. His inability to perceive red did not harm him greatly and he is still coaching

Descartes s Dualism Argument
The theory of dualism states that the human body comprises of the mental and the physical
components, which are separate substances with independent existence. Physical things are objects
which occupy space, and we use our senses to perceive, such as bones and flesh. Mental things are
abstract, existing only in thought and do not have extension in the physical world. In this paper, I will
be discussing Descartes s substantial dualism argument and refute his position by pointing out the
inconsistency in his examples and give evidence that the brain and mind are one.
Here is how the Substance dualism is stated in the paper,
(1) If we can exist without bodies, then we cannot be bodies.
(2) We can exist without bodies.
(3) Therefore, we cannot be bodies.
Premise 1
In the first premise, he argues that if the mind and body are one then the body cannot exist without the
mind and vice versa. On the contrary, if the mind and body are separate, as substance dualists claim,
then one can exist without the other. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
And this assumption raises issues if the person is not a believer of soul immortality. There is also
overwhelming evidence from medical data which shows the connection between the brain and the
mind. For example, when you touch colder water in in winter signals are sent to the from the brain to
the mind and the mind sends back instructions to the brain to remove the hand. The removal of brain
parts results in reduced mental cognition. From scientific evidence things like plants which do not
have brains have no souls and there is nothing with a soul but without a brain. Therefore, there brain
and the mind cannot exist without one

Walking on Sunshine
When I was born in 1999 Serena and Venus Williams were on their way to becoming international
tennis stars. Apparently, my parents were avid tennis stars at the time, and so they named me Katrina,
and a few years later they named my little sister Serena. Now Serena and I have never played a game
of tennis together, in fact I don t even think she s played a game of tennis ever. I really doubt that my
parents knew that they were going to conceive another child in 2003, therefor I find this short
anecdote to be completely false. I just think my dad is old and as it was 18 years ago he s forgotten.
My dad also told me how my parents nearly settled on the names Maya and Sara. Hearing this makes
me somewhat grateful for my name, seeing as Sarah s, are a dime a dozen in this world. While I do
find the name Maya intriguing, I don t really see myself as a Maya. One aspect of my name that I love
is my middle names, and yes, I mean middle names as in two. When I was younger I thought it was so
cool to have two middle names, and my dad s story behind the first one never failed to make me feel
special.
My dad s choice of Jewel, because at the time I was as precious as a jewel. My mother rounded off my
middle name with a simple Ann, which stemmed from her middle name. Combined together they
make a somewhat unique Jewel Ann. I think I still like my middle name, its different, I think that s
why I like it. The cherry on top of the name sundae is my last name

Magna Carta In Australia Essay
Introduction This research essay addresses the issue of the application of Magna Carta in Australia by
championing the idea proposed by Justice Isaacs that Magna Carta is the groundwork of the
Constitution of the Commonwealth. In determining the relationship between Magna Carta and the
Commonwealth Constitution, we investigate how the principles of the Commonwealth Constitution
are connected with and reflected in Magna Carta. It is worthwhile to examine the degree of
consistency between Magna Carta and the Commonwealth Constitution in Australia.
Nexus between the Commonwealth Constitution and Magna Carta
The fundamental principles in the Commonwealth Constitution
The origin of the Commonwealth Constitution was the received principles of English law which
became applicable on settlement and which were modified and extended by subsequent statutes. The
constitutional system of Australia subsequently followed the set of conventions regarding the exercise
of powers in relation to the Australian Constitution by the Parliament, Sovereign and Ministers of the
United Kingdom. These conventions ensured the proper functioning of government and the smooth
working of the Constitution in changing conditions. As a consequence of a process of development

The book I have chosen to write about is Cry the Beloved Country. This book is about ambiguity and
reconciliation. The main character in the story Stephan Kumalo has to deal his the struggle of his
family, and trying to keep them together. The first few chapters of this book are place in a small town
called Ndotshenti. But the action in this takes place in the largest city on South Africa, Johannesburg.
Stephan Kumalo finds out there can be day light even when nothing in you life is going right.

Stephan Kumalo decides to take a trip to the big city, to see if he can find his sister, and hopefully
bring her back to his house. While there, he also planned to visit his brother John and see if knows the
whereabouts of his son. So, he packs his bags and tells the people of the church he will be home in a
few days.
He arrives in Johannesburg and immediately he feels out of place. The reason for this is because he is
not use to seeing the fast life. Industrialization is a new phenomenon for Stephan Kumalo. Hustlers
immediately notice he is a countryman out of place, and take advantage oh Stephan Kumalo. He
looses most of his money but finds a kind man to get him to where his brother lives.
The next day he and his brother have an extensive conversation about their lives. John Kumalo tells
Stephan that his son and Absalom are wondering about the city together. Stephan is not happy with his
son s decision to come to the big city.
His brother tells him that there is nothing for young men in the countryside and there is an abundant
amount of jobs for men his age in the big city.
Next, Stephan hits the streets of Johannesburg trying to find his sister Gertrude and bring her back to
Ndotshenti. Stephan fins her at a run down motel and tells her what she has to. She agrees and she go

Most people see the snack market as dynamic and innovative, but actually it is surprisingly
conservative. Most of what passes for product innovation is in fact tinkering with our marketing

Rarely though does anyone in their industry introduce something radically different. That is why

team will carry out much of the worked themselves, they will still need the corporation and the
resources of their own departments. So, as well as being part of the team, they are also gateways to
expertise around the company. The team consisted of representative of marketing, the development

Jung
Ellyn Joy V. Pasaporte Carl Jung Until the 1910s, Carl Jung was a follower and close friend of Freud
s. Like Freud, Jung believed that unconscious conflicts are important in shaping personality. However,
he believed the unconscious has two layers: the personal unconscious, which resembled Freud s idea,
and the collective unconscious, which contains universal memories of the common human past. Jung
called these common memories archetypes. Archetypes are images or thoughts that have the same
meaning for all human beings. Jung said that archetypes exist in dreams as well as in art, literature,
and religion across cultures. According to Jung, the ego represents the conscious mind while the
personal unconscious contains memories, including ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Jung called this one of the irrationalfunctions, meaning that it involved perception rather than judging
of information. The second is thinking. Thinking means evaluating information or ideas rationally,
logically. Jung called this a rational function, meaning that it involves decision making or judging,
rather than simple intake of information. The third is intuiting. Intuiting is a kind of perception that
works outside of the usual conscious processes. It is irrational or perceptual, like sensing, but comes
from the complex integration of large amounts of information, rather than simple seeing or hearing.
Jung said it was like seeing around corners. The fourth is feeling. Feeling, like thinking, is a matter of
evaluating information, this time by weighing one s overall, emotional response. Jung calls it rational,
obviously not in the usual sense of the word. On the one hand, Jung is still attached to his Freudian
roots. He emphasizes the unconscious even more than Freudians do. In fact, he might be seen as the
logical extension of Freud s tendency to put the causes of things into the past. Freud, too, talked about
myths Oedipus, for example and how they impact on the modern psyche. On the other hand, Jung has
a lot in common with the neo Freudians, humanists, and existentialists. He believes that we are meant
to progress, to move in a positive direction, and not just to adapt, as the Freudians and behaviorists
would have it. His idea of

Similarities Between Oceania And North Korea
The Democratic People s Republic of Korea^ One of the more secretive countries in the world is
North Korea, in a lot of ways, Kim s regime is similar to that of Big Brother s. Outlawed actions or
crimes against the regime lead to either death or forced labour camps. People are constantly surveyed
by the regime and punished if they step out of line. Another similarity is that both countries are short
on supplies, while Oceania is short on things like boots and razor blades, the North Koreans are
having shortage of food, starving many. Lies, stories and manipulation both play big parts in these two
countries. Oceania edit the past by changing news articles, deleting all contradictory information and

with one CCTV camera having to monitoring every seven hundred and twenty one people. Although
they have a declining economy, Russia are increasing their military expenditure, working with China

event, and watching the movie Amores Perros. Fortunately for me, these three events covered a
variety of issue areas (e.g., religious traditions, language dynamics, and machismo); additionally, each
event was based in different Spanish speaking countries. Over the past summer, I traveled to Spain
and was able experienced the culture and traditions of the Hispanic people for two weeks. I was struck
by how language and cultural heritage played a major role in shaping the experiences of Hispanic
people. The role of language plays a huge role in shaping the experiences and lives of the people
living in Barcelona. In the city of Barcelona, Catalan and Spanish are the languages spoken.
Furthermore, the government only provides free education to learn Catalan, not Spanish. This
preservation of the Catalonian culture represents the ongoing effort of the Catalonians to gain
independence from Spain. Through preserving the native Catalonian language through law and
education, these Hispanic people show how they adamantly defend their heritage and place high value
on preserving Catalonian culture. I recognized the respect the other Barcelonans had for the
Catalonian people. Though their cultures have many fundamental differences, the non Catalonians
living in Barcelona learn how to speak Catalan in order to communicate, but also to validate the
integrity of their cross culture interactions. This enables an open discussion politically and socially on
the issues both cultures bring to the discussion. After traveling through Spain, I was inspired by the
people to learn how to speak

Advantages Of Crowdfunding
Crowdfunding and the gaming industry
The video games have been marked with a considerable advancement since its first introduction in
1970s. Emergence of the modern technology and social networks has enabled games to expand and
explore new means and forms of its application (http://www.statista.com/topics/868/video games/ ).
The crowdfunding has gained a lot of popularity over the years, especially in the gaming community.
Not only is the industry perceived as one of the most innovative and forward looking categories, it
also connects people with a specific mind set and an excessive enthusiasm towards it. Moreover, this
community has a common interest which is closely linked with a technological element and thus the

Just as other campaigns, games benefit from the same advantages of crowdfunding. There are in
particular three major reasons, why is crowdfunding useful for this industry. Firstly, the fact that
crowdfunding enables the funders to considerably lower their costs is one of the main luring factors. It
is a matter of fact that a development of games is a very expensive business. Moreover, since the
gaming industry has evolved and grown over the time, so has done the customers´ expectations. The
extent and complexity of their demands has escalated significantly, resulting in higher costs of game
production (http://www.crowdsourcing.org/editorial/the rise of crowdfunding and crowdsourcing in
the video game sector/52239 ). In fact, the global gaming software expenditure represents an
enormous amount of $51, 13 billion (http://www.statista.com/topics/868/video games/ ). This had,
however, a negative impact as the smaller producers, who could not afford such expenditures and have
been pushed out of the market. Crowdfunding allows these small ventures to access additional funds
and therefore, it helps them to transform their unique ideas into a reality and launch the products
successfully on the

Revenge In Hamlet And Othello
Across his many works, William Shakespeare commonly uses revenge not only as a motive for
individuals but as a driving force for the entire plot. This appears in both Hamlet, in which the hero
seeks revenge for the murder of his father, and Othello, in which the villain seeks revenge for the
promotion of the less qualified Michael Cassio. Though Shakespeare portrays these characters
conversely, their ends and means mirror each other. Readers can draw parallels between Prince
Hamlet and Iago: they both have a desire for revenge, a meticulous methodology, and the intellect
needed to tie together their plans. Using their intellect, both Prince Hamlet and Iago form elaborate
plans, manipulate those around them, and, after much suffering, achieve their goals. At the discovery
of his father s murder, Hamlet quickly springs into planning how to revenge [King Hamlet s] ... most
unnatural murder and builds his plan around the opportunities presented by the arrival of Rosencrantz
and Guildenstern, the play put on by the acting troupe, and young Fortinbras desire to cross Denmark
s borders (I.v.25). As Eric Levy, an emeritus professor at University of British Columbia, writes, the
mental awareness that Hamlet possesses eventually exceeds his own unaided cognitive powers,
causing the spiral of madness that ultimately brings the play to its violent end (9). Before this madness
overtakes him, however, Hamlet devises the plan to verify Claudius guilt and prepare the perfect

The Company Play Book The Operating Budget
Accounting is the language of business; the operating budget is the company play book for the coming
year. With the operating budget the company can forecast the overall health of the enterprise.
Management is able to foresee the financial strength of the company based on the sales revenue, Cost
of Goods Sold (COGS), the operation expense that then provides the budgeted income statement.
Although good management is required to ensure a company s fiscal health, the operation budget if
well planned is the actual path that will ensure success.
The operating budget is a part of the Master Budget. What makes it so important is that it contains the
projected operating net income for the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Any variance in the COGS would be evaluated. The operations team generally is responsible for the
labor and material costs.
If the overhead both variable and fixed are not within the budget it would be the responsibility of the
accounting team to identify where the variance is coming from. Did the rent go up? Are we paying
higher commissions than was budgeted for? Some area s cannot be revised, but the sales price can be
adjusted quickly for future orders if the costs suddenly go up.
Having a plan book (operating budget) but not checking to ensure that all of the contributing factors
are aligned is irresponsible. The only way to ensure that the company is on budget is to balance the
books and ensure that the cost drivers are in line. To do this the department managers need to review
and ensure that actuals are in line with the standards calculated during the creation of the budget.
A budget variance is when the expected values are different from the actual values. A sales volume or
revenue variance is the responsibility of the Marketing department. A material cost variance is the
purchasing department (generally part of the operations team). A material efficiency variance is the
responsibility of the Production department. The direct labor cost variance is the Human Resource and
Production departments responsibility. The production department needs to ensure they are using the
right skill set for the job. The Human resource

The Treaty Of The Old Testament
In the days of the Old Testament, if you wanted to make a deal with someone, you could either make a
promise, or make a covenant with them. However, an important distinction needs to be made here. A
promise can be broken without severe consequence. To the people of the Ancient Near East, a
covenant closely resembled a Suzerainty Treaty; this was a legal bond between two parties, one being
the Suzerain with power, and another being the Vassal, that is agreeing to help from the Suzerain. The
treaty describes blessings that will occur from Suzerain to Vassal if the treaty is upheld, and cursings if
it is not. This document would be accompanied by a ceremony that involved the cutting of animals

The sign of the covenant is a rainbow, mentioned in Gen. 9:13. Following such a devastating scale of
destruction by water, God wanted His bow to be a sign whenever clouds appeared that He would be
faithful to His covenant with all flesh on earth. The character of God described through this covenant
is His great care for every aspect of His creation. Through Genesis 9:9 11, God describes in great
detail who and what shall benefit from the covenant He makes with Noah. He not only mentions Noah
s immediate family (which in turn is the peoples of the earth), but even goes as far to describe His care
for the beasts of the earth. Busenlitz says The reason for such detail is to make the divine concern for
even the least of the creatures strongly apparent (p 184). God s incredible care for His people carries
over into the next covenant, with assurances of not only earthly glories, but heavenly also. Abrahamic

Abraham and Moses Essay
Abram is presented to us as an old man without an offspring or heir. He is at the age of seventy five
when God comes to him with the offer of the covenant. Abraham stands for devotion, justice,
compassion, faith, tact, and personal integrity. He is also seen as cunning, humorous, and pragmatic
throughout the story. Abram is a man looking for his faith, and God asks Abram to leave his land and
kinship to a land which God will show him. In exchange for Abram s faith and compliance, God will
make of Abram a great nation, make his name great, bless those who bless him and curse those who
curse him, and finally all the communities of the Earth will find blessing in him.

Abraham found out that this was God s final test before the covenant was finalized. God told Abraham
that all his people must look to God as their god, and that all the boys must be circumcised on the
eighth day after their birth. If Abraham would fulfill his part of the covenant, God would provide
Abraham with the lands of Canaan.
Abraham must have faith in God throughout his journey because the God he speaks to asks him to
leave his lands and kinsfolk to go to a promised land that Moses has never seen nor heard much about.
God promises Abraham many things which were unbelievable or impossible without divine
intervention, so Abraham s faith is always being tested. Abraham knows that his legacy will never
continue without an heir, so his faith lets him continue and believe that he will still have a son even
after he has aged so much. Another reason why Abraham must have faith is that the people following
him have faith in Abraham. If at any time Abraham loses faith, he will not only risk breaking the
covenant with God, but he will also be letting down all the people who had faith in him.
The story of Abraham changed the way the Hebrew people thought about time. The Hebrew people
began to think of time as cyclical. Each cycle was begun with the promise of what is to come, and
ended with the fulfillment of this promise and the need of a new promise. This fits in with the stories
of the Prophets, as the coming of Abraham and Moses can be

On The Waterfront Analysis Essay
The subject of this paper is Kazan s testimony against the communist and how it is related to one of
the greatest themes in the movie On the Waterfront . The theme has to do with Terry Molloy breaking
the Deaf and Dumb rule which states that nobody should talk about anything that happened in the
docks. The theme also has to do with the main character Terry Molloy testifying against Johnny
Friendly. Was he right to testify. Was Kazan justified in testifying before the HUAC and how did he
justify his testimony? How do the acts of these men compare.
Firstly, Elia Kazan was an American director, producer that was accused of being a part of the

So Terry went to seeit.A final reason for his testimony is because Johnny Friendly is a corrupt person
and he and his thugs were a bad influence on the people in the waterfront.
For Kazan, just like Molloy, he testified against the communist party or named names as the past

themselves were communist. I believed it was the right thing to do, at the time, being a member of the

The Islamic Diffusion Of India
INTRODUCTION PARAGRAPH
In the 600s, Arab traders were in contact with India. They would regularly go to the west coast of
India to trade different goods, like African goods, spices, and gold. As the Arabs began to convert to
Islam, the religion carried to the coast of India. The first mosque in India was built in 629, it is called
the Cheraman Juma Masjid. The mosque was made in the Indian state Kerala. Islam continued to
spread into Indian cities, by immigration and conversion, as the Arab Muslims and the Indians
continued trading.
DIFFUSION
Islamic diffusion in India happened through both Relocation and Expansion.
India was first introduced to Islam in the 600 s when Arab traders regularly sailed to
the west coast of India to trade goods like spices and gold. At this time the Arabs had begun to convert
to Islam. When they came to the shores of India, they brought their new Islam religion with them. The
first mosque in India was built in 629. Islam continued to spread in coastal Indian towns and cities
through this immigration and relocation. However, most Indians stayed with their own religion and
there was not a massive immigration of Muslims from other areas.
Islam also has diffused through Expansion. The greatest Expansion of Islam in India first occurred in
711. Seventeen year old Muhammad bin Qasim was appointed to lead his army of 6,000 soldiers to
the far eastern side of Persia, Makran. As he made his way into India there was little

Literature in the 1920 s Reading was a very popular thing to do back during the 1920 s. Before radio
and television existed almost all people gained knowledge of the wider world and current events
through books and literature. Literature contributed to society a lot more in the 1920 s than it did
today. Many authors contributed to the learning and shaping of minds young and old by writing books
that would define the time period. Some of these authors were F. Scott Fitzgerald, Ernest Hemingway,

Evaluation of The Silence Of The Lambs
The film which I am evaluating is called The Silence of the Lambs and is based on Thomas Harris
novel and is directed by Jonathan Demme. The film was shot in Pittsburgh and is set in West Virginia.
In the making of this film careful research was carried out in bringing each character to life especially
Jame Buffalo Bill Gumb. This included the actors being at crime scenes and viewing files about
previous serial killers in order to fit into their characters properly. Jonathan Demme cleverly blended
together different characteristics from other mass murderers in order to make Buffalo Bill realistic and

You Can Not Go Through Life Without Having A List Of Rules
You can not go through life without having a list of rules. I hope to grow up and become a parent
myself and one thing that I hope to teach my children one day is that they need to work their hardest
until they succeed and that they need to learn from their failures. One quote that I really like is from
Thomas Edison who said, I have not failed, I have just found 10,000 ways not to build a lightbulb.
What I take from this quote is that life doesn t end after you fail, you need to take that failure and
expound on it and learn from it. I live by a lot of rules, I believe obeying rules is hard work but if I
obey them I will get a lot of things in return and that s what I hope my kids take away from life and
my rules, is that if you do something hard you ll get something great in return.
In my freshman year I was nominated to be the team captain of my baseball team and that night I was

Environmental Exploring And The Environmental Effects Of...
For centuries, production and absorption of carbon dioxide was in balance with the ecosystem
however, in the last century, human activity has caused detrimental effects to the earth s atmosphere
due to the consequential changes in earth s natural feedback mechanism. This problem ultimately
originated from the industrial revolution in the 18th century where as a result caused the constant
production and burning of fossil fuels which has presently caused the warming of earth s surface. This
is ultimately a result of by the greenhouse effect ...which is caused by the interaction between earth s
atmosphere and incoming radiation from the sun. Greenhouse gases primarily consist of carbon
dioxide however others such as ...water vapour, methane, and nitrous oxide... are also associated to the
greenhouse effect. Scientifically, solar radiation passes through the atmosphere to the surface of earth,
where it is absorbed and then radiated upward as heat is the result of the high emission of greenhouse
gases. The most substantial and common way of emission is through the burning of fossil fuels in cars,
factories and electricity production. Therefore, human activities over the past century has ultimately
caused the more recent problem of the effects global warming is posing to our ecosystem and planet.

Illegal Immigration In America Essay
Illegal Immigration in America Illegal immigration has been at the forefront of President Donald
Trump s agenda since he started his run for Presidency. His stand on illegal immigration has set a new
standard for how people enter the United States. The media has made it a priority to highlight every
mistake an illegal immigrant makes to show the American people that there is a problem with illegals.

This current problem correlates with other issues within the emergency department. A study was
performed by the Institute of Medicine (IOM) demonstrating the six components of the evaluations of
the quality of one s care; Safety, effectiveness, patient centered care, efficiency, time, and equitability
(Strang, Crotts, Johnson, Hartling, Guttman, 2015). The scope of my project involves training,
education and changing the way our department interacts with arriving patients and the triaging
process. The lack of specific tasks and communication in the triage area also lives. A dearth in
communication has been directly linked to delays in patient care, medication errors, and lack of
accountability (Sayah, Rogers, Devarajan, Kingsley Rocker, Lobon, 2014). With the use of
appropriate quick triage, communication, and transfer of patients one can implement targeted goals in
triage (Craig et at., 2016). The organization I selected to support my clinical project is The World

Comparing Catherine II and Elizabeth I

the name of Sophia. She was the daughter of Prince Christian August and Princess Johanna Elizabeth.
Since she was a princess, she was home schooled. She became very smart and free spirited. Nancy
Whitelaw, the author of Catherine the Great spoke on Sophia s childhood and noted, Sophia loved to
be in charge, and though some of her playmates said she was bossy, there was no doubt she was a
natural leader (Whitelaw 15 16). When she was around the age of fifteen, she met Prince Karl Peter
Ulrich of Russia. Ulrich s mother, Czarina of Russia, was trying to find a wife for her son. She knew
her son was not fit for the throne, and the country would be devastated with him at the head. Whoever
Ulrich married would earn the right to rule Russia (Whitelaw 18). After some consideration and
suggestions, she decided that Sophia was the right girl for Ulrich. Even though her father did not like
the fact that she would have to convert from Lutheran to Orthodox, he gave consent. She moved back
to Russia with Ulrich, converted to Orthodox, and changed her name to Catherine. Catherine now had

Case Study Psycho Oncology

Psycho oncology is the psychological response of a patient and their family to cancer of all stages of
the disease and also the psychological, behavioural and social factors that may influence the disease

diagnosed with cancer can be signicant and therefore, holistic care is essential to ensure that patients

writing every year. However, I have realized that I still have a lot of room for improvement and
exploration. After reading Foley, Murray, Lamott, Elbow, and Flower, I gained a better understanding
in how to improve my writing and identifying the mistakes and styles I have adopted in my writing
that are not as effective. Thus, these articles have explained many strategies and styles such as the five
paragraph essay, steps to having a good writing process, and the way of revising a piece of work until
it seems like the best product. In short, revising ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Organization when writing is vital to a successful and efficient paper. In order to have a successful
piece of writing, it is important to include the following steps that includes knowing who you are
writing to, what you are writing about, and what are you trying to share. As well, analyzing your
audience is important because it influences the way you would present your writing based on i.e. a
certain age, race and background in general. Having knowledge about the topic and expected audience
allows you to expand to avoid a vague explanation. Murray said, Effective writers are simply
expressing what they know, like a student filling up an examination bluebook. This statement is
accurate because people have their own personal styles and perspective that are effective in their own
way. Everyone has a different style of writing. For example, some individuals learn without guidelines

Effects of Overpopulation and Industrialization on the Environment
Throughout history, the world s population has expanded in an extremely exponential fashion taking
over three million years to achieve a one billion person benchmark, it then only took 130, 30, 15, 12,
and 11 years to reach subsequent billions, respectively. (Southwick, 159) Such a massive and still
increasing population, combined with the environmentally detrimental repercussions of
industrialization (as a result of the need to sustain such a large population), namely pollution from
fossil fuels, has begun to take a serious toll on our planet s ecosystem. Moreover, some scientists have
calculated that an optimal human population on earth in terms of reasonable ... Show more content on

Regardless of whether or not pollution increases as population increases, (Edwin Dolin strongly
refutes this principle that population increases lead to increases in pollution) the statistics nonetheless
illustrate that increased population, and now what many consider overpopulation, has without a doubt
led to continuingly deteriorating environmental conditions. Especially since the beginning of the
Industrial Revolution, new technologies have enabled cultures and communities, initially in the new
territories traversed by the Europeans, to expand in populace: we are forever realizing that the
Industrial Revolution has changed forever the relationship between humanity and nature. There is a
real concern that by the middle or the end of the 21st century human activities will have changed the
basic conditions that have allowed life to thrive on earth. (Internet 1) These basic conditions include
the earth s natural climate and the depletion and manipulation of its natural resources. Such expansion
(since the Industrial Revolution) and creation of new establishments began, on a small scale, to effect
the environment in many ways. The first element of the environment that was immediately effected
was forests. Massive deforestation occurred, and still does so today, as land was cleared to make way
for new towns. Moreover, many construction projects also used wood from trees, not to mention other
commercial uses, such as paper, and fuel. Deforestation may

Hurricane Comme Essay
Hurricane Cosme can be traced to a tropical wave that formed on the west coast of Africa on or around
June 8. That westward moving wave, which was also responsible for the formation of Tropical Storm
Barry in the Caribbean Sea, eventually reached the Eastern Pacific Ocean. The progress of the wave
was slowed by a southwesterly movement within the Intertropical Convergence Zone.[10] During the
morning hours of June 20, the National Hurricane Center (NHC) began monitoring a broad area of
disturbed weather several hundred miles southeast of Acapulco, Mexico.[11] Assessed with a low
chance of tropical cyclone formation within a two day interval, conditions at the time were
unfavorable but expected to become more conducive for development over subsequent ... Show more

A large area of very cold cloud tops developed over and just southeast of the center of the storm, and
convective banding wrapping into the mass began to form, mainly in the north and east semicircles.
[18] Though the cloud pattern became elongated north to south during the pre dawn hours of the
following day,[19] a rapid improvement of the inner core on microwave and the structure on satellite
imagery became apparent. A timely AMSU pass indicated an eyewall nearly closed with an
accompanying intensity estimate of 77 mph (124 km/h), and a transient eye became visible on early
morning satellite images. As a result, the National Hurricane Center upgraded Cosme to a Category 1
hurricane on the Saffir Simpson hurricane wind scale.[20] Given the light wind shear, warm sea
surface temperature, and moist air environment, the agency predicted further intensification for the
following hours, and the system attained its peak intensity with winds of 85 mph (140 km/h) and a
minimum barometric pressure of 981 mbar (hPa; 28.97 inHg) late on June 25.[21] Thereafter, a result
of cooler sea surface temperatures forecast several days in advance, convection on the west side of the
circulation center began to erode significantly.[22] The tropical storm wind radii expanded the
following morning, but the inner core of Cosme, specifically the

Having two a day practices each two to three hours long, waking up in complete darkness to get ready for swim meets and jumping into the freezing cold water are all part of the swimming experience. I have had some very good coaches, and not so good coaches throughout my 12 years of swimming. Coaches are an imperative part of any athlete s career, and having a coach that is hard to get along with can cause a lot of conflict. Going into my senior year of high school, I knew that the coming swim season was going to be very different from the previous three years. We were getting a whole new coaching staff, two swim coaches, one dive ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We have eight practices each week that consists of five in pool practices and three dryland practices. If we had a meet on a Saturday, Tuesday evening, or Thursday evening dryland practice would not be cancelled, and swimmers would still need to attend. This concerned a lot of swimmers since our past coaches would let us skip practice if we had a reasonable excuse. During finals week, we got a lot of complaints saying that they needed to skip practice to study for a final, but couldn t afford to miss any more practices. So instead of skipping practice they would show up and study for their final the morning of their test. Coach Gayle expected everybody to come to practice, and would put our attendance and times on a piece of paper at the wall directly in front of the pool. If she wasn t satisfied with the team percentage she would take the initiative to email the parents telling them to get their daughter to practice. When the interval was too difficult to make on time, and somebody would confront her about it she would yell at them to stop complaining. The whole team did the same set but with different intervals, and she would whistle whenever the fastest lane finished their set making everybody come back to get ready for the next set. • 7. My Career Path For A Teacher On October 21, 2015 my cooperating teacher mocked me in front of my class. You see I was the student teacher in a second grade classroom at Charles Olbon Elementary School. After class I went home, locked myself in my bedroom and I started pondering my future and my career path. I thought I would not be a good teacher, why did I choose this career path? I choose this path because my friends and family saw me a teacher, but I guess they do not know the real me. In 2003 at the age of ten years old I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. My father saw me down at the kitchen table and strongly advised me to go into an easy profession. He instructed me to become a teacher, therefore I mindlessly agreed to his requests. Then when I entered college, I did not enjoy the teaching classes and I told my friends, family, and fellow teachers. However everyone told me the similar line: you will make a great teacher, you re just nervous cause you re almost graduating, just stick it out and get your degree. I listened to others while ignoring my inner voice and passion. Now fast forward to October 23 25th I ended up skipping student teaching to go into the city for Robert McKee s Story and Storynomics seminar class. I consider myself a happy go lucky person who is a positive thinker and dreamer however on this particular day when my mom dropped me off at the bus station I was in a depressed state of mind. Kinsella (1976) defined protein functionality as those physical and chemical properties which affect the behavior of proteins in food systems during processing, storage, prepration and consumption. Proteins are linked to functional properties such as solubility, water binding, gelation, foaming and color, whereas starch is associated with solubility, swelling, water absorption, viscosity, and gelatinize (Bressani, 1985). Functional properties are physicochemical properties that give information on how a food ingredient will behave in food system. The functionality of plantain and okara flours can logically be attributed to its chemical components as determined by raw materials processing and storage conditions. Properties such as solubility, viscosity, water and fat binding, emulsification, foaming and gelation are of general interest (Hermansson, 1979). The method of Okaka and Potter (1977) with some modifications was used for determining the swelling capacity of okara and plantain flours. Foaming capacity and foaming stability were determined as described by Narayana and Narasinga Rao, (1982) with slight modifications. • 11. Descartes s Dualism Argument The theory of dualism states that the human body comprises of the mental and the physical components, which are separate substances with independent existence. Physical things are objects which occupy space, and we use our senses to perceive, such as bones and flesh. Mental things are abstract, existing only in thought and do not have extension in the physical world. In this paper, I will be discussing Descartes s substantial dualism argument and refute his position by pointing out the inconsistency in his examples and give evidence that the brain and mind are one. Here is how the Substance dualism is stated in the paper, (1) If we can exist without bodies, then we cannot be bodies. (2) We can exist without bodies. (3) Therefore, we cannot be bodies. Intuiting is a kind of perception that works outside of the usual conscious processes. In fact, he might be seen as the logical extension of Freud s tendency to put the causes of things into the past. Freud, too, talked about myths Oedipus, for example and how they impact on the modern psyche. On the other hand, Jung has a lot in common with the neo Freudians, humanists, and existentialists. The sign of the covenant is a rainbow, mentioned in Gen. 9:13. Following such a devastating scale of destruction by water, God wanted His bow to be a sign whenever clouds appeared that He would be faithful to His covenant with all flesh on earth. The character of God described through this covenant is His great care for every aspect of His creation. Through Genesis 9:9 11, God describes in great detail who and what shall benefit from the covenant He makes with Noah. He not only mentions Noah s immediate family (which in turn is the peoples of the earth), but even goes as far to describe His care for the beasts of the earth. Busenlitz says The reason for such detail is to make the divine concern for even the least of the creatures strongly apparent (p 184). God s incredible care for His people carries over into the next covenant, with assurances of not only earthly glories, but heavenly also. • 27. Abraham and Moses Essay Abram is presented to us as an old man without an offspring or heir. He is at the age of seventy five when God comes to him with the offer of the covenant. Abraham stands for devotion, justice, compassion, faith, tact, and personal integrity. He is also seen as cunning, humorous, and pragmatic throughout the story. Abram is a man looking for his faith, and God asks Abram to leave his land and kinship to a land which God will show him. In exchange for Abram s faith and compliance, God will make of Abram a great nation, make his name great, bless those who bless him and curse those who curse him, and finally all the communities of the Earth will find blessing in him. God told Abraham that all his people must look to God as their god, and that all the boys must be circumcised on the eighth day after their birth. If Abraham would fulfill his part of the covenant, God would provide Abraham with the lands of Canaan. Abraham must have faith in God throughout his journey because the God he speaks to asks him to leave his lands and kinsfolk to go to a promised land that Moses has never seen nor heard much about. God promises Abraham many things which were unbelievable or impossible without divine intervention, so Abraham s faith is always being tested. Abraham knows that his legacy will never continue without an heir, so his faith lets him continue and believe that he will still have a son even after he has aged so much. Another reason why Abraham must have faith is that the people following him have faith in Abraham. If at any time Abraham loses faith, he will not only risk breaking the covenant with God, but he will also be letting down all the people who had faith in him. The story of Abraham changed the way the Hebrew people thought about time. The Hebrew people began to think of time as cyclical. Each cycle was begun with the promise of what is to come, and ended with the fulfillment of this promise and the need of a new promise. The theme also has to do with the main character Terry Molloy testifying against Johnny Friendly. Was he right to testify. They would regularly go to the west coast of India to trade different goods, like African goods, spices, and gold. As the Arabs began to convert to Islam, the religion carried to the coast of India. The first mosque in India was built in 629, it is called the Cheraman Juma Masjid. The mosque was made in the Indian state Kerala. Islam continued to spread into Indian cities, by immigration and conversion, as the Arab Muslims and the Indians continued trading. DIFFUSION Islamic diffusion in India happened through both Relocation and Expansion. India was first introduced to Islam in the 600 s when Arab traders regularly sailed to the west coast of India to trade goods like spices and gold. At this time the Arabs had begun to convert to Islam. When they came to the shores of India, they brought their new Islam religion with them. The first mosque in India was built in 629. Islam continued to spread in coastal Indian towns and cities through this immigration and relocation. However, most Indians stayed with their own religion and there was not a massive immigration of Muslims from other areas. Islam also has diffused through Expansion. The greatest Expansion of Islam in India first occurred in 711. Seventeen year old Muhammad bin Qasim was appointed to lead his army of 6,000 soldiers to the far eastern side of Persia, Makran. I hope to grow up and become a parent myself and one thing that I hope to teach my children one day is that they need to work their hardest until they succeed and that they need to learn from their failures. One quote that I really like is from Thomas Edison who said, I have not failed, I have just found 10,000 ways not to build a lightbulb. What I take from this quote is that life doesn t end after you fail, you need to take that failure and expound on it and learn from it. I also get angry at people when they mess up but I do usually keep it to myself. I was also really nervous when I was up to hit because I didn t want to get hit by the ball. So I didn t really know how to be a team leader. That night I was sitting around table eating dinner when I started talking about what I should do.
