Mind Body Soul
Everyone has their own opinions and beliefs and can interpret information as they see fit. Both
Bertrand Rusell and Richard Swinburne have expressed their views on the topics of the mind soul and
the after life. These are very complex areas of science and have their own ideas of what the mind and
soul are and what there purposes are. Russell discussed the finality of Death. He argues that there
cannot be life after death and that after the destruction of our body s that our memories and personality
are destroyed as well. He discusses the importance of fear when dealing with death. He states that this
is the strongest emotion and he also states that it is instinctive and biological and that it is useful. He
thinks that if we truly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
What comes to mind as the author describes this isn t a brain molded to your head shape? To me the
brain is like contact lenses it should fit exactly and most importantly no one else should be handling it
but you or in the brain s case doctors if necessary. What if the body changes in size some much time
has gone by that anything could occur. I partly feel that by freezing the body and then putting the brain
together you are tampering with the forces of nature or as other would put it with God s wish. In
conclusion I believe that both of these authors have their valid reasons for writing about the mind, the
soul, and death. These issues are rather difficult to discuss and it is my belief that there is no right or
wrong answers. To me it is all based on your beliefs and how you were brought up. I personally
believe that religion place a strong role in this and it affects the way we view issues like these. Those
who believe in reincarnation would have a lot to say on this. In certain cultures even after your dead
your soul continues to live on. I understand that for some people this is a hard concept to grasp. To
some it might seam rather abstract. I believe that once you die your soul is put to rest, to me that is
what death is all about finally being at

An Average Work Day For Eleanor Squillari
December 11th, 2008 started out like an average work day for Eleanor Squillari, secretary for Mr.
Bernie Madoff, at Bernard L. Madoff Investment Securities. After reaching her desk she received a
call from Ruth Madoff, who sounded rather lifeless instead of her usually upbeat self. Ruth was
inquiring whether her sons had made it into the office; Eleanor informed her that they hadn t, while in
the back of her mind she kept thinking about Ruth s strange voice. However, she didn t question it but
continued her day, going on her regular rounds. As she descended to floor 18 she observed that the
conference room was full of serious men is suits, all surrounding Peter Madoff, Bernie s bother.
Strange, she noted, along with why Bernie still hadn t shown up. She was interrupted by a big man in
a trench coat walking in her direction, but she questioned him first. He responded by flashing his
badge and yelling F.B.I! What s happening? Was someone kidnapped? she didn t know where to start,
but her confusion was resolved when Peter s secretary walked over. Looking stunned, she said They re
saying that Bernie was arrested for fraud. No, that s not true! Eleanor replied, but Peter walked by and
reaffirmed it. She was shocked; for twenty years she never noticed anything about the international
White Collar crime that was run right under her nose (Seal, Squillari). What is a White Collar crime?
It s a crime that is committed in high business positions, but it can be

Strategic Thinking and Strategic Management Processes...
A critical consideration of the contribution of strategic management and strategic thinking processes to
organisational performance.
Strategic management and strategic thinking processes make a significant contribution to
organisational performance.
A strategy, according to Robbins and Barnwell (2002, p. 139) is the adoption of courses of action and
the allocation of resources necessary to achieve the organisation s goals .
It is important for organisations to achieve their goals, as this can assist them to reach a competitive
advantage, which is a highly attractive position for a firm to be in.
This essay will look at strategic management processes and how they can be used to improve
organisational performance; it will also describe ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The nature of strategic thinking and strategic planning can be simplified through a comparison of
strategic planning as single loop learning and strategic thinking as double loop learning. The
relationship between the two shows them as separate factors, which are however, interrelated and
complementary thought methods. (Heracleous, 1998)
It is important to understand both strategic thinking and strategic planning in drawing conclusions of
the contributions of strategic thinking on organisational performance; this is due to the similarities
between the two. They must not be mistaken for one another and the results of one should not be
contributed to the results of the other.
Managers and organisations plan because it provides them with some direction and reduces
uncertainty within the firm. It is also used to set standards for controlling, it is therefore very
important within organisations. (Robbins, Bergman, Stagg Coulter et al, 2006)
According to Jones, Scholes and Whittington (2008, p. 402) Strategic planning may take the form of
systemised, step by step, chronological procedures to develop or coordinate an organisations strategy .
Strategic Thinking can be described as a process which enables senior management to create a
strategy, debate relevant issues, evaluate the internal and external environment, create strategic goals
for the organisation and carry the strategy through effectively. (Decision Processes International,
2008)
It is evident from these

Tinker V Des Moines Case
Tinker v. Des Moines Independent Community School District 393 U.S. 503 It can hardly be argued
that either students or teachers shed their constitutional rights to freedom of speech or expression at
the schoolhouse gate. This was the main argument from Justice Abe Fortas that came into play at the
Tinker v. Des Moines School District Case of 1969. The case involved a small group of students who
silently dissented against the government s policy during the ongoing Vietnam War by wearing black
armbands to school. In response by the school administration, each of those students was suspended
from the public schools they attended in Des Moines, Iowa. This case is a prime example of the
Constitutionally protected symbolic speech we have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Black stated an unpopular opinion, saying that it was a myth to say that any person has a constitutional
right to say what he pleases, where he pleases, and when he pleases, while other dissenter Justice John
M. Harlan found nothing wrong with teachers regulating armbands and their suspension was for a
legitimate reason. The act of the School District in suspending the students clearly showed a serious
impediment of the Free Speech Clause of the First Amendment and the Due Process Clause of the
Fourteenth. All students who petitioned were quiet and passive, neither disrupting nor interfering with
school activities and the rights of other students which makes their symbolic speech protected under
the Constitution. What the students were protesting against accounts for their expression of opinion,
which is again protected under the First and Fourteenth Amendments. Since this case, the Supreme
Court has issued decisions that have given school administrators more power to regulate student
conduct. Nevertheless, the Tinker decision changed the way students seek to exercise their First
Amendment rights

Incidence Rate Of Skin Cancer
Abstract: Incidence rate of skin cancer are increasing day by day. Skin cancer is one of the deadliest
forms of cancer but detected earlier can save the life time of the human being. An automated screening
system is introduced to identify the presence of skin cancer in advance. In this paper, texture
distinctiveness lesion segmentation algorithm is used. Experience and training based characteristics of
back propagation neural network is used with texture distinctiveness lesion segmentation algorithm,
for identifying the normal and abnormal portions of skin .The most commonly occurring skin cancers
are Melanoma, Basal and squamous cell carcinoma and actinic keratosis. The proposed system is to
diagnose the presence of these skin cancers with high segmentation accuracy.
Keywords: Melanoma, segmentation, skin cancer, texture, neural network.
1. INTRODUCTION
Cancer is a life threatening disease caused primarily by genetic instability and accumulation of
multiple molecular alternations [1] [2].Present diagnostic and prognostic classifications are
insufficient to make prediction for successful treatment and patient outcome [3] [4].Among many
types of cancer, Skin cancers are the most common form of cancers in human [5]. The common types
of skin cancers are melanoma, basal and squamous cell carcinoma, and Actinic Keratosis [6].Digital
Dermoscopy is widely considered as one of the most cost effective method to identify and classify
skin cancer. The rate of detection of melanoma

The Existence Of Love At First Sight In Romeo And Juliet
Around the world and in our society, the concept of love at first sight has been a quite debatable topic.
Those who claim that it exists, base off their belief on what the cliche movies and fairy tale stories
show you; in addition, there are no real components to think that love at first sight exists. One of the
events that can support the fact that love at first sight doesn t exists is when Romeo starts to compare
Juliet to things such as light, a dove, etc., and he swears that he had not seen beauty until he saw her.
In Act 1, Scene 5, Romeo proclaims, I ne er saw true beauty till this night. What makes his statement
doubtful is the fact that he is far too young to really say that he s in love with her just because he finds
her beautiful. Another thing that supports this is that hours before he met Juliet, he was raving on and
on about how much in love with Rosaline he was and how beautiful she was to him. How could
someone fall out of love with someone and fall into love with somebody else in such a small amount
of time? ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Paris is one of the richest people in Verona and the Capulets want him to marry Juliet. The reason that
Juliet never falls in love with Paris is because Paris never spoke to her the way that Romeo did when
they first met. In Act 1, Scene 3, Juliet says talking about Paris, I ll look at him and try to like him, at
least if what I see is likeable. By her saying this, it reflects on how her and Paris never really spoke to
each other, therefore not allowing her to fall in love with him. Again, Romeo would compare her to
such sweet things and made her feel extremely special and unique, which effectively caused her to
believe that what they had was love at first

March To The Sea Essay
In March, 1864, Lincoln made Grant the commander in chief of Union forces, with the rank of
Lieutenant General. Grants strategy of Total War was to advance on the enemy from more than one
front. He believed that continual pressure on all fronts would prevent Confederate forces from
reinforcing each other. In the east, Grant s plan was to whittle down the manpower of the Army of
Northern Virginia by staging an unrelenting attack. After half a dozen epic battles, Grant s army
besieged the town of Petersburg, pinning Lee s forced down. Simultaneously, in the west General
William T. Sherman s troops were marching to Atlanta. The seized and burned the city, which was an
essential railroad junction for the Confederates. This victory guaranteed Lincolns re election in 1864,
ruining any Confederate hope of independence. Sherman s army then moved east in what is
commonly referred to as the March to the Sea , burning and destroying Georgia as he went. His
railroad men destroyed all of the rail lines that led back to Chattanooga, Tennessee, so as to deny a
vital supply line to the Confederates. By shrinking the vast amount of land, the Confederate Army
could operate within, Sherman was able to contain it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Rap Music Analysis
A vocal or instrumental sounds combined in such a way as to produce beauty of form, harmony, and
expression of emotion. This the definition of music ; music is an art that can be generated by anyone
and everyone. When you hear something or feel something that clicks in your brain so much that you
can remember it and turn that little echo of sound into something radically different that is
breathtaking and true art. Some people can completely make a beat into something new and something
you have never heard. These are the real artist that can warp a piece of sound into something that can
make you feel some way. One song could make you cry with happiness or cry with sadness. Our

It depends on my mood and the music I listen to like rap music makes me hype and happy but also
makes me think about the past life and the struggles I have gone through and the stuff I have seen. I
only know a couple of people that can relate to the facts they say in rap music. The people who like
rap music they will mostly have the same emotional make up the same mindset or even an event in
their life which makes them relate to rap music. The people that relate to the same type of music I feel
like it is easier to get along with and the things you say makes sense to them. The topic of music is the
most interesting thing to me. It fascinates me as you can tell if I can write a 2,000 word paper just on
the theme of music. People that have the same relationship I do with music, I find that we become
close because I find music is one of the best ways to bring people together. I have a profound love for
music and the artists I love like Travis Scott and the ability for him and his music to make my body
get the chills down my spine. This shows how much I like his music and the great appreciation I have
for it. Everything to the new school rappers who love to make up new words and incorporated it into
their music. It is as they talk in code and the only people that understand are the people from the same
hood most of the words are different words for drugs and other stuff they do not want anyone else to

The Effect Of The Rate Of Osmosis In The Onion Cell
Introduction: All living organisms require the ability to regulate the water transported into and out of a
cell. This is process is called Osmosis, which is the movement of water from a region of higher water
concentration to a region of lower water concentration through a selective preamble membrane.
Osmosis is a type of passive transport; therefore, no energy is required for this change to occur.
(Lodish, H, Arnold, B, Zipursky, S, Matsudaira, P Baltimore, D, 2000)
Independent variable:
The independent variable is the temperature of the salt solution.
Dependent variable:
The dependent variable is the size of the red onion cells.
Constant variables:
The constant variables include the microscope, the type of cell, the slide, thermometer and the
coverslip.
How will the dependent variable will be measured/observed?
The dependent variable will be observed through a microscope at the highest magnification and will
be recorded through photographs taken and 2 minutes and 6 minutes. The results will be measured by
comparing the size of the cell wall to the cell membrane in each respective test.
The method used for this experiment was the one listed above. Although some of the results vary in
some figures, there is evidence that the temperature of the water is linked to increasing the rate in
osmosis in the onion cells. Shown in Figure 1 and 2 the cells have swelled, as a result of the increase
in water temperature. This may be explained by the Kinetic Theory

Pride blinds the main characters in Austen s Pride and Prejudice and in Dostoevsky s Crime and

Narrative Voice of Frederick Douglass
Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass
The tone established in the Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass is unusual in that from the
beginning to the end the focus has been shifted. In the beginning of the narrative Douglass seems to
fulfill every stereotypical slavery theme. He is a young black slave who at first cannot read and is very
naïve in understanding his situation. As a child put into slavery Douglass does not have the knowledge
to know about his surroundings and the world outside of slavery. In Douglass narrative the tone is first
set as that of an observer, however finishing with his own personal accounts. When first introduced to
Douglass and his story, we find him to be a young slave boy filled with ... Show more content on

Douglass states before narrating any of the peculiar circumstances, I deem it proper to make known
my intention not to state all the facts connected with the transaction. In doing so Douglass assumed
the narrative would lose the interest of its readers, however the mere thought of a slave man risking
his life for a chance to freedom is able to recapture the interest of any facts left out. In the conclusion
of the narrative Frederick Douglass contemplates escaping, weighing it against the idea of leaving all
of his friends. Douglass says, I had a good number of warm hearted friends in Baltimore, friends that I
loved almost as I did my life, and the thought of being separated from them forever was painful
beyond expression. Such a personal tone and accounts make the reader truly see the change Douglass
has gone through since the beginning of the narrative. The language difference from the beginning up
until the conclusion can be based solely on spirit and education. From the start Douglass did not know
much about anything and spoke like he should have, from a child s view. This includes a child s
inquisitiveness, demonstrated by his speaking of others more than himself. As he grows and matures,
and is even given the gift of an education the language changes dramatically to that of an educated
man. Speaking in an intellectual manner Douglass sees that his ability to read and write has truly set
him free. From the tone of a

Analysis Of Am I A Good Man
Am I a good man, Clara? This simple, powerful question comes from the television show Doctor
Who, when the main character the Doctor is thinking about all of the pain he has inflicted. He has
indirectly responsible for countless deaths, is a pain to some people for his recklessness, and is not
always kind. This idea is explored throughout the show, and the characters come to the conclusion that
he is a good man because he purposefully goes out of his way to help and save people. However, what
if he did not have this quality? Would he still be a good man? In The Odyssey, by Homer and
translated by Robert Fagles, the main character Odysseus does lack this trait. After voyaging home
from war as a hero, he and his crew face countless ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, his sheer disregard for his crew is one of his many concerning flaws. One such case of this
disregard can be shown on the island of Aeaea, where Circe (a bewitching nymph) has just gotten the
entirety of his crew drunk:
But roused by the shouts and tread of marching men, he leapt up with a start at dawn but still so dazed
he forgot to climb back down again by the long ladder headfirst from the roof he plunged, his neck
snapped from the backbone, his soul flew down to Death. (10.613 17)
This quote reveals that one of Odysseus s men has just accidently killed himself, under the watch of
Odysseus. In fact, under Odysseus s watch, the men were permitted to be constantly drunk and stay at
Circe s for a full year. Odysseus had no concern for the families he and his men had yet to return to,
and had no urgency to get the crew in a safer place and off the island of Aeaea. It took a death to snap
some sense into him. This is not a one time issue. In a later story, Odysseus and his men have landed
on the island of Thrinakia, land of Helios holy cows. Circe has prophesied that if any of Odysseus s
crew touches the cows, that they will all be killed. Odysseus allows them to go onto the island, and
simply tells them to not touch the cows, without a reason. Within weeks, Odysseus s men kill and eat
the cows, and within days, all are dead. This blatant mistake made by Odysseus kills all of his crew,
leaving him to feel guilty.

Decisions In Cover-Up And Good Guys Always Win
Decisions. Sometimes they are very hard to make, and sometimes they are very easy to make.
Sometimes decisions could have a very bad outcome if you choose the wrong option, others have very
minor consequences. In the stories Cover ups and the play Good Guys Always Win, there are two
characters that are faced with decisions that could result in a good outcome or a bad outcome. In
Cover ups the character that has to make the decision was Mrs. Kittredge, the mother of a girl who s

tell her daughter and her friend, named Jenna and Richard, that Jenna s father had practically

The Rene Bridging By Garcia Summary
As the title the renegade, or a confused mind suggested, the first thing needed to understand is what
his confusion is. The beginning of the story reveals his source of confusion and foreshadows the main
theme of the story to find order and seek unity for his senseless life: What a muddle, what a muddle! I
must put my head in order. Since they cut out my tongue, another tongue, I don t know, goes on
wagging inside my skull, something is talking or someone, who suddenly shuts up and then begins all
over again oh I hear too many things I m not saying, what a muddle, and if I open my mouth it s like

However, when explaining the reason he want to kill the missionary, instead of directly stating it, the
renegade parallels the act of killing the missionary with the act of killing the father: ...kill the father,
that s what one had to do, but no danger that he would throw himself into missionary work since he
died long ago, the acidic wine finally ate holes in his stomach, so all that s left is to kill the missionary.
(28) In Catholicism, another name for the missionary is also father. He considers the Catholicism he
used to believe in as father, the one who brings security, happiness, and order to his life. Killing the
father would mean the renegade decides to leave that protection and grow into a real man to find new
orders and unity for himself. However, the renegade doesn t grow and find unity within him, instead,
he simply converting to a new religion to seek order for his life. In other word, the renegade simply
just find a new father instead of growing. This dependency on external ideology instead of the strong
belief from himself leads to the destruction of his new form of life. Even when his order and unity are
destructed again, he still seeks external help instead of internal examination: Leave behind that face of
hatred, begged now, we were mistaken, we shall begin again, yes, help me, that s it, hold out your
hand, give... (47) As expected, the renegade failed. His journey

The Principles of Chipotle
A Few Things, Thousands of Ways Chipotle plans to keep its menu simple, but the combinations of
fresh ingredients create countless meal varieties for customers. The majority of the food products are
fresh and prepared from scratch using kitchen stoves, grills, pots, pans, knives, and other utensils.
Food Served Fast ... So That Customers Can Enjoy It Slowly The employees of Chipotle spend hours
preparing the food at each location so it can be ready for customers in seconds. While there may be
many people waiting to order, the assembly line fashion of adding ingredients to each customer s
specialized order allows for Chipotle crew members to serve up to 300 people per hour (Chipotle,
2011, p. 4).
The Front Line is the Key Chipotle s kitchen and restaurant design intentionally places employees up
front to reinforce a focus on service, through interaction with customers and individual attention by
creating one burrito at a time (Chipotle, 2011, p. 5). While Chipotle combines basic ingredients to
magnify the flavor they also stick to the basics when staffing their restaurants. Chipotle only has two

World Thirst Satire
In my satire activity I picked the topic of ending World Thirst by using a compelling article voicing
my opinion about the importance of this worldwide obstacle. The primary goal for this article is to end
World Thirst indefinitely by sharing the idea that if all the citizens in the United States of America
take 1/13 less time in the shower, there will be plenty of water to donate to third world countries that
are in a dire need of a clean water source. I believe that we can achieve this goal by taking our self
centered body out of the shower for a little fraction of the time, to end a water famine to millions of
humans scattered across the globe. My satire article highlights the absurdity that millions of people do
not have a clean water ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I then conclude with a morality statement about how we can be the difference if we just cut some time
in the shower or come up with a better solution. As I start off my article I start by describing the
American culture as we act like we are dying of thirst and drink a premium juice, but there are
millions of people who are truly dying of thirst every day. I compared the privileged reality of
America s resources verses the vast difference of a Cambodia child. I targeted the greed that of all
people that are truly blessed to have multiple water sources as I use an experimental target of showing
people how selfish they are. It is an understatement when I get into the advances in technology as I
downplay all the hard work and money people have put invested in. My persona I inhibit in this satire
article would be as the average American citizen that wants to right my selfishness and help end World
Thirst. I hope everyone will get my satire, but that will probably not be the case, as the privileged we
want to hold onto a couple minutes in the shower for our self center hearts. With the article starting off
as you invoke the thirst from the reader I used incongruity weaving into the life of a poor Cambodian
child that just wants a sip of

Deutche Brauerei is a family run German Beer Company. It is owned entirely by 16 uncles, aunts, and
cousins from the Schweitzer family. The Schweitzers are brewers, not marketers or finance people, so
they have hired Oleg Pinchuk to help with the marketing aspects and Greta Schweitzer, Lukas
Schweitzer s niece, to give financial expertise. The company s agenda includes: approval of the 2001
financial budget, declaration of the quarterly dividend, and adoption of a compensation scheme for
Oleg Pinchuk. Greta also wants to study the company s reliance on debt financing and whether or not

In conclusion, I would accept the financial plan if the changes to the dividend payout and Pinchuk s

I do not recommend the expansion. It is my hope that with more focus on the distributors the company

Cultural Analysis of Spain
**this was written as the first stage of analyizing Spain for the introduction of a franchise**
In the beginning, Spain endured a diversified number of cultures. Around 1600 B.C., the Iberians
arrived in Spain. Migration into Spain continued from Europe beyond the Pyrenees, the
Mediterranean, and North Africa. Following the Iberians, came the Celts. The two cultures merged
and established a distinctive Celt Iberian culture. In 1492, the Moors, a nomadic, Muslim tribe of
North African origin, were driven off of the Iberian Peninsula. Shortly after, several kingdoms on the
Iberian Peninsula merged to form what is modern day Spain.
Spain is located in southwestern Europe and occupies approximately 80% of the Iberian Peninsula. It

Traditional Spanish food consists of fresh ingredients. Seafood, which is consumed within hours of
being caught, as well as meat, are combined with herbs, spices, and lots of olive oil in traditional
Spanish cuisine. Because of the increase in the number of fast food restaurants in Spain as well as
restaurants from other countries with their own flavors, the traditional food of Spain is starting to
decrease but will never be forgotten.
Today s democratic Spain is the product of a long and often troubled history. For much of the
twentieth century, Spain was governed by dictatorships, most recently during the years of 1939
through 1975 under General Francisco Franco.
The government of Spain is one of constitutional monarchy. The nation is led by the Spanish head of
state, King Juan Carlos I, who began his reign in 1975. Subordinate to the monarchy, there are 3
branches of government, an Executive Branch, a Legislative Branch, and a Judicial Branch.
Although Spain is a kingdom, the King is not the leader of the Spanish government. The Executive
Branch is led by the Prime Minister of Spain, Jose Maria Aznar. Also included in this branch are
various governmental positions including the First Deputy Prime Minister, Second Deputy Prime
Minister, and the Council of Ministers. Additionally, the Executive Branch is responsible for enforcing
or carrying out the laws that are made through the Legislative Branch.
The Legislative Branch of the Spanish government is comprised of

Mean s Search For Meaning By Viktor Frankl
Mean s Search for Meaning by Viktor Frankl Linda Felix Positive Psychology Dr. R. Barke November
28, 2016 The book, in autobiographical mode, relates Auschwitz to the life of the author Viktor E.
Frankl in the concentration camps of the former Nazi Germany. It reports the cruelty in which the SS
soldiers used to mistreat the prisoners and in turn explains how the concentration camp life in the
mind of the average prisoner affected. As soon as they reached the concentration camp, which in this
case was Auschwitz, the prisoner was stripped of his personal belongings and identity documents.
They identified the prisoners with a number. Then there was a first selection that for some would have
a fatal destiny, crematoria and gas chambers. The forced labor of the prisoners sometimes had a
reward in the form of a coupon. This coupon could be redeemed for a dozen cigarettes or a dozen
servings of soup. Usually the vouchers were kept for the soup, but thanks to them you could tell when
a prisoner lost the will to live and smoked their cigars to enjoy their last days of existence. The author
divides life into the field into three phases. Phase one, The Shock. The symptom that characterizes this
phase, according to Frankl, is the shock. As soon as they were at Auschwitz, they received a group of
prisoners who spoke in every imaginable and well fed European language. That is why the prisoners
who arrived thought they could share their situation. They adopt the state of

The Revolution Of The Videogame Industry
There was a brilliant revolution in the videogame industry. The only brilliant thing to occur in this
century I d say. The makers of Key to the Future have created some of the coolest and most addicting
games ever. This was their biggest thing yet. The goal of key to the future is to complete all the levels,
simple. The challenges and puzzles you need to do to beat the levels are... much less so. They have
made thirteen Key to the Future games (this great revolution being the thirteenth of them). They have
created a virtual reality game with six hundred eighty five thousand and twenty two (685,022) levels.

Ulysses Vs Lady Of Shalott Essay
The Victorian era was a time of contradiction. While England lamented its traditional values, it also
saw the potential for a better quality of life through industrialization. Tennyson presents this paradox,
between traditional acceptance of life and a progressive need for enhancement, in his poems Ulysses
and The Lady of Shalott . Both of these poems express a want for self revolution while each
protagonist has duties and societal expectations that are holding them back. Tennyson uses experience,
gender, and identity in Ulysses and The Lady of Shalott to explore the idea of personal revolution.

Shura is an Arabic word for consultation and it is this that forms part of the four cardinal principles
(human dignity justice and equality) in the Islamic organisation of social policys and politics. It was a
method that the pre Islamic tribes of the Middle East would use to make major affecting decisions.
The term Shura is mentioned several times in the holy Quran and is also used as a name in parliaments

the decisions executed by the state. (Waines, 2009)

Elements Of Satire In Candide
Glass half empty, glass half full, who cares as long as there is water? Pessimistic or optimistic,
Voltaire takes a realistic approach to each philosophy in his satirical novel, Candide. Written in 1756,
the French philosopher s work was under appreciated and banned in France shortly after its
publication, a mistake the North Dakota Department of Education is about to repeat. Candide is a
literary masterpiece studied mostly at the university level for its interesting philosophies, satirical
devices, and rich history, to ban this book in high schools would rob students of their chance to
expand their education and critically analyze the world around them.
Voltaire wrote Candide after the 1755 earthquake in Lisbon, France, critiquing the Church s and other
philosophers declaration that All is well . While other philosophers of the time, such as Jean Jacques
Rousseau and Leibnitz believed that God s plan was perfect and that humanity s downfall was
civilization, Voltaire maintained that civilization would make people better. In a letter to Jean Jacques
Rousseau, Voltaire argued, What we need is more, not less, civilisation. This cannot be obtained

This literary tactic makes the book a fascinating study on satyr. Throughout Candide, events are
described simply and without the swell of emotion, making horrible events appear nonchalant and
unimportant. This exaggerates the simplicity of the philosophy that all is well (Aldington; 4). At the
same time, Candide uses hyperbole to point out contradictions of nobility, the Baron Thunder ten
tronckh is introduced as one of the most powerful lords in Westphilia however in the same sentence,
the reader is told that his castle possessed a door and windows. His Great Hall was even decorated
with a piece of tapestry (Aldington; 4). Candide provides an excellent opportunity to learn important

`` Defiance `` By Edward Zwick
Based on a true story, Defiance, directed by Edward Zwick, is an extraordinary and insightful tale
about the lives of three brothers that take refuge in the woods for survival against the Nazis. In the
beginning, their main goal was to keep alive by also avenging the deaths of their parents, however as
the movie progresses, their mission turns into something far more bigger. They began to find other
Jews who come hoping to join them in their quest for survival, while looking to them as their leaders.

I enjoyed the fact that the setting of the story is different unlike other movies. Instead of it being
fixated on the lives of the Jews living in concentration camps or the ghettos, there setting takes place
outside in the forest where they have to take on even more problems and adapt themselves to nature s
environment. The Jews had to start from the bottom, but eventually they created an efficient and
resilient community. They were forced to build shelters out of material such as wood and tree stems
found in the forest. The refugees organized leadership roles by the various skills of the Jews. Most
were skilled craftsmen, artisans, and laborers, but soon became fighters and soldiers, gun cleaners, and
shoemakers. Women were deemed the task of preparing the meals, and keeping up with the children.
They also had the impossible task of having to find weapons and ammunition to survive.
Along with their environmental situations, the Jews were faced with the problem of lack of food. With
their group continuously growing, they turned to stealing food from other farmers in the area. This
was a good plan at first, however they had to take the chance that the farmers would tell the Germans
about their encounters. At some point, food was so scarce that people became tumultuous towards one
another. You could see how humans reacted when put under these unthinkable situations. Men started
to become greedy, and thought of themselves as having

The Islamic And Christian Faith Essay
he first, second, and third Crusade took place during the time of chivalry. Close to the end of the 11th
century was the time in which the First Crusade had begun. The Islamic and Christian faith had
similar views toward Jerusalem as their Holy Land. In 1095, Pope Urban II called for the first crusade
to then later claim the land of Jerusalem from the Muslims. As time went on, the Saracens rebelled
against the Crusaders in defense of their culture and rights. The theme of crusades is vividly discussed
in literature with a various number of viewpoints in regards to the reasoning and background of these
historical events. The thought process behind the Crusades and the motive to push this war into action
was originally believed that it was for the sake of preserving sacredness of religions, but in reality, the
reasoning is much further from the truth than one would think and the terrible outcomes of it are even
greater. he Crusades was not a rational movement that could easily be explained purely because of it
economical or territorial ambition, neither would it be explained due to a clashing or rights and
interests. Both the Christians and Muslims were fueled by myths and passions that were far more
effective in getting people to act than any political matter would. And so the years of war have
followed. The main spark to this prodigious war was when Emperor Alexis I of the Byzantine Empire
requested assistance to Christian nations in order to defend its capital city of

The Most Important Composers Of The Nineteenth Century
Johannes Brahms was one of the most important composers of the nineteenth century. Although he is
forever enshrined in music history as one of the three B s (Along with Beethoven, and Bach), Brahms
contribution to the musical world is far greater than just the letter B. ( Self Confidence par. 9) From
his works in orchestral music (such as his four symphonies, and concertos) to his piano, chamber, and
choral music, all of these have had a meaningful impact the world of music, both in the nineteenth

The N word has been around for a long time. Through slavery, the industrial revolution, both World

The word Nigger has ranged in popularity in the terms of usage since the beginning of its existence.

Corporal Punishment Should Be Accepted Into Society
INTRODUCTION Corporal punishment, or otherwise known as spanking, has been a topic of
discussion for many years. Opinions on whether corporal punishment should be accepted into society
have lingered considering there are so many variables that cause people to have diverse opinions about
the subject. It should not be a surprise that most studies prove when parents favor corporal
punishment, they tend to be more likely to use it with their children (Flynn, 1998). Not only does the
age of a person being surveyed affect opinions on physical punishment, but religion is also a huge
factor when it comes to supporting corporal punishment. Multi generations could potentially all have

for parents it was 36.4 years. This left a wide variety of perspectives to be seen within the study.
Although, this study showed no correlation between the age of the respondents to their views on
keeping or disregarding section 43.
While in a similar study, people between the age of 20 to 30 years were less likely to use corporal
punishment within their home, unless they received corporal punishment as a child (Schenck, Lyman,
Bodin, 2000). Although, the 8% of respondents who reported that they were victims of physical abuse
as children were significantly less likely to recommend corporal punishment. A different point of view
showed that people above the age 30 we likely to recommend corporal punishment whether they

punishment as a child, the older generations were still likely to recommend using physical punishment
based off other perspectives that they had seen. In a study based off multi generations, there was a

there was scandalous segregation between whites and blacks, and Malcolm X strived to end it.
Malcolm X always noticed that white americans had treated black people unfairly, and he said in one
of his speeches, White man wants black men to stay immoral, unclean, and ignorant. As long as we
stay in these conditions we will keep on begging him and he will control us. (page 89) This story
explains the life of Malcolm X from being a poor farm boy in Omaha, Nebraska, and having a tragic
childhood, to becoming an inspiring human rights activist and African American Muslim minister that
changed the world. He wanted to gain the black man s civil rights through militant self defense. At
first, he believed that black people should follow the motto, by any means necessary , which included
violence, to end the segregation, but later when he visited Mecca, he came back differently and
thought that everyone was his brother, or in other words, we are all equal and should live in harmony.

  • 2. Mind Body Soul Everyone has their own opinions and beliefs and can interpret information as they see fit. Both Bertrand Rusell and Richard Swinburne have expressed their views on the topics of the mind soul and the after life. These are very complex areas of science and have their own ideas of what the mind and soul are and what there purposes are. Russell discussed the finality of Death. He argues that there cannot be life after death and that after the destruction of our body s that our memories and personality are destroyed as well. He discusses the importance of fear when dealing with death. He states that this is the strongest emotion and he also states that it is instinctive and biological and that it is useful. He thinks that if we truly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... What comes to mind as the author describes this isn t a brain molded to your head shape? To me the brain is like contact lenses it should fit exactly and most importantly no one else should be handling it but you or in the brain s case doctors if necessary. The relationship between the two shows them as separate factors, which are however, interrelated and complementary thought methods. (Heracleous, 1998) It is important to understand both strategic thinking and strategic planning in drawing conclusions of the contributions of strategic thinking on organisational performance; this is due to the similarities between the two. They must not be mistaken for one another and the results of one should not be contributed to the results of the other. Managers and organisations plan because it provides them with some direction and reduces uncertainty within the firm. It is also used to set standards for controlling, it is therefore very important within organisations. (Robbins, Bergman, Stagg Coulter et al, 2006) According to Jones, Scholes and Whittington (2008, p. 402) Strategic planning may take the form of systemised, step by step, chronological procedures to develop or coordinate an organisations strategy . Strategic Thinking can be described as a process which enables senior management to create a strategy, debate relevant issues, evaluate the internal and external environment, create strategic goals for the organisation and carry the strategy through effectively. • 6. Tinker V Des Moines Case Tinker v. Des Moines Independent Community School District 393 U.S. 503 It can hardly be argued that either students or teachers shed their constitutional rights to freedom of speech or expression at the schoolhouse gate. This was the main argument from Justice Abe Fortas that came into play at the Tinker v. Des Moines School District Case of 1969. The case involved a small group of students who silently dissented against the government s policy during the ongoing Vietnam War by wearing black armbands to school. In response by the school administration, each of those students was suspended from the public schools they attended in Des Moines, Iowa. This case is a prime example of the Constitutionally protected symbolic speech we have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Black stated an unpopular opinion, saying that it was a myth to say that any person has a constitutional right to say what he pleases, where he pleases, and when he pleases, while other dissenter Justice John M. Harlan found nothing wrong with teachers regulating armbands and their suspension was for a legitimate reason. The act of the School District in suspending the students clearly showed a serious impediment of the Free Speech Clause of the First Amendment and the Due Process Clause of the Fourteenth. All students who petitioned were quiet and passive, neither disrupting nor interfering with school activities and the rights of other students which makes their symbolic speech protected under the Constitution. What the students were protesting against accounts for their expression of opinion, which is again protected under the First and Fourteenth Amendments. Since this case, the Supreme Court has issued decisions that have given school administrators more power to regulate student conduct. Nevertheless, the Tinker decision changed the way students seek to exercise their First Amendment rights ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 8. The Existence Of Love At First Sight In Romeo And Juliet Around the world and in our society, the concept of love at first sight has been a quite debatable topic. Those who claim that it exists, base off their belief on what the cliche movies and fairy tale stories show you; in addition, there are no real components to think that love at first sight exists. One of the events that can support the fact that love at first sight doesn t exists is when Romeo starts to compare Juliet to things such as light, a dove, etc., and he swears that he had not seen beauty until he saw her. In Act 1, Scene 5, Romeo proclaims, I ne er saw true beauty till this night. What makes his statement doubtful is the fact that he is far too young to really say that he s in love with her just because he finds her beautiful. Another thing that supports this is that hours before he met Juliet, he was raving on and on about how much in love with Rosaline he was and how beautiful she was to him. How could someone fall out of love with someone and fall into love with somebody else in such a small amount of time? ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... By her saying this, it reflects on how her and Paris never really spoke to each other, therefore not allowing her to fall in love with him. Grants strategy of Total War was to advance on the enemy from more than one front. He believed that continual pressure on all fronts would prevent Confederate forces from reinforcing each other. In the east, Grant s plan was to whittle down the manpower of the Army of Northern Virginia by staging an unrelenting attack. After half a dozen epic battles, Grant s army besieged the town of Petersburg, pinning Lee s forced down. Simultaneously, in the west General William T. Sherman s troops were marching to Atlanta. The seized and burned the city, which was an essential railroad junction for the Confederates. This victory guaranteed Lincolns re election in 1864, ruining any Confederate hope of independence. Sherman s army then moved east in what is commonly referred to as the March to the Sea , burning and destroying Georgia as he went. Osmosis is a type of passive transport; therefore, no energy is required for this change to occur. (Lodish, H, Arnold, B, Zipursky, S, Matsudaira, P Baltimore, D, 2000) Independent variable: The independent variable is the temperature of the salt solution. As a child put into slavery Douglass does not have the knowledge to know about his surroundings and the world outside of slavery. In the conclusion of the narrative Frederick Douglass contemplates escaping, weighing it against the idea of leaving all of his friends. Douglass says, I had a good number of warm hearted friends in Baltimore, friends that I loved almost as I did my life, and the thought of being separated from them forever was painful beyond expression. Such a personal tone and accounts make the reader truly see the change Douglass has gone through since the beginning of the narrative. This simple, powerful question comes from the television show Doctor Who, when the main character the Doctor is thinking about all of the pain he has inflicted. This idea is explored throughout the show, and the characters come to the conclusion that he is a good man because he purposefully goes out of his way to help and save people. (10.613 17) This quote reveals that one of Odysseus s men has just accidently killed himself, under the watch of Odysseus. In fact, under Odysseus s watch, the men were permitted to be constantly drunk and stay at Circe s for a full year. Odysseus had no concern for the families he and his men had yet to return to, and had no urgency to get the crew in a safer place and off the island of Aeaea. It took a death to snap some sense into him. This is not a one time issue. In a later story, Odysseus and his men have landed on the island of Thrinakia, land of Helios holy cows. Circe has prophesied that if any of Odysseus s crew touches the cows, that they will all be killed. Odysseus allows them to go onto the island, and simply tells them to not touch the cows, without a reason. Within weeks, Odysseus s men kill and eat the cows, and within days, all are dead. Barke November 28, 2016 The book, in autobiographical mode, relates Auschwitz to the life of the author Viktor E. Frankl in the concentration camps of the former Nazi Germany. It reports the cruelty in which the SS soldiers used to mistreat the prisoners and in turn explains how the concentration camp life in the mind of the average prisoner affected. As soon as they reached the concentration camp, which in this case was Auschwitz, the prisoner was stripped of his personal belongings and identity documents. They identified the prisoners with a number. Then there was a first selection that for some would have a fatal destiny, crematoria and gas chambers. The forced labor of the prisoners sometimes had a reward in the form of a coupon. This coupon could be redeemed for a dozen cigarettes or a dozen servings of soup. Usually the vouchers were kept for the soup, but thanks to them you could tell when a prisoner lost the will to live and smoked their cigars to enjoy their last days of existence. The author divides life into the field into three phases. Phase one, The Shock. The symptom that characterizes this phase, according to Frankl, is the shock. Tennyson presents this paradox, between traditional acceptance of life and a progressive need for enhancement, in his poems Ulysses and The Lady of Shalott . Both of these poems express a want for self revolution while each protagonist has duties and societal expectations that are holding them back. Tennyson uses experience, gender, and identity in Ulysses and The Lady of Shalott to explore the idea of personal revolution. Ulysses wish for change is greatly fueled by his past experiences. Ulysses feels his job as a king is not very rewarding. He talks about being an idle king in the very first line of the ballad, so the reader knows immediately how mundane life as a king is for Ulysses. He continues to say, I mete and dole / Unequal laws to a savage race (3 4), this line expresses how hopeless Ulysses feels when it comes to his duties as king. Ruling over his kingdom is not important to Ulysses because he feels like being a good ruler is impossible. Opposed to how Ulysses speaks of his life as a king, he sees his life as a traveler as what made him who he truly is saying, I am become a name / For always roaming with a hungry heart (11 12). Here Ulysses is relating his most basic identifier, his name, with roaming the world. Ulysses desires to sail beyond the sunset, and the baths / Of all the western stars, until [he dies] (34 35), this lets the reader know that Ulysses wish is to see the world. The Historical Context of Ridda, Shura, and Shi a Essay Shura is an Arabic word for consultation and it is this that forms part of the four cardinal principles (human dignity justice and equality) in the Islamic organisation of social policys and politics. It was a method that the pre Islamic tribes of the Middle East would use to make major affecting decisions. Consultation applies to the choice of the head of state as well as to all the decisions executed by the state. During the Caliphate of Ali there was much fighting and eventually the Muslim world fell into civil war. The later Caliphs had nominal control over the Islamic states, but interestingly none of them were brought to power by Shura; they all gained control via inheritance or force. Most of today s Islamic countries have at least some aspects of their government or ruling management based on Shura. In Egypt the upper house of their parliament is known as the Shura council. Saudi Arabia appointed a Shura council in 1993 but all real power is held by the king. • 26. Elements Of Satire In Candide Glass half empty, glass half full, who cares as long as there is water? Pessimistic or optimistic, Voltaire takes a realistic approach to each philosophy in his satirical novel, Candide. Written in 1756, the French philosopher s work was under appreciated and banned in France shortly after its publication, a mistake the North Dakota Department of Education is about to repeat. Candide is a literary masterpiece studied mostly at the university level for its interesting philosophies, satirical devices, and rich history, to ban this book in high schools would rob students of their chance to expand their education and critically analyze the world around them. Voltaire wrote Candide after the 1755 earthquake in Lisbon, France, critiquing the Church s and other philosophers declaration that All is well . While other philosophers of the time, such as Jean Jacques Rousseau and Leibnitz believed that God s plan was perfect and that humanity s downfall was civilization, Voltaire maintained that civilization would make people better. In a letter to Jean Jacques Rousseau, Voltaire argued, What we need is more, not less, civilisation. This cannot be obtained except through ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Throughout Candide, events are described simply and without the swell of emotion, making horrible events appear nonchalant and unimportant. They began to find other Jews who come hoping to join them in their quest for survival, while looking to them as their leaders. Instead of it being fixated on the lives of the Jews living in concentration camps or the ghettos, there setting takes place outside in the forest where they have to take on even more problems and adapt themselves to nature s environment. The Jews had to start from the bottom, but eventually they created an efficient and resilient community. They were forced to build shelters out of material such as wood and tree stems found in the forest. The refugees organized leadership roles by the various skills of the Jews. Most were skilled craftsmen, artisans, and laborers, but soon became fighters and soldiers, gun cleaners, and shoemakers. Women were deemed the task of preparing the meals, and keeping up with the children. They also had the impossible task of having to find weapons and ammunition to survive. Along with their environmental situations, the Jews were faced with the problem of lack of food. With their group continuously growing, they turned to stealing food from other farmers in the area. This was a good plan at first, however they had to take the chance that the farmers would tell the Germans about their encounters. At some point, food was so scarce that people became tumultuous towards one another. You could see how humans reacted when put under these unthinkable situations. • 28. The Islamic And Christian Faith Essay he first, second, and third Crusade took place during the time of chivalry. Close to the end of the 11th century was the time in which the First Crusade had begun. The Islamic and Christian faith had similar views toward Jerusalem as their Holy Land. In 1095, Pope Urban II called for the first crusade to then later claim the land of Jerusalem from the Muslims. As time went on, the Saracens rebelled against the Crusaders in defense of their culture and rights. The theme of crusades is vividly discussed in literature with a various number of viewpoints in regards to the reasoning and background of these historical events. The thought process behind the Crusades and the motive to push this war into action was originally believed that it was for the sake of preserving sacredness of religions, but in reality, the reasoning is much further from the truth than one would think and the terrible outcomes of it are even greater. he Crusades was not a rational movement that could easily be explained purely because of it economical or territorial ambition, neither would it be explained due to a clashing or rights and interests. Both the Christians and Muslims were fueled by myths and passions that were far more effective in getting people to act than any political matter would. And so the years of war have followed. The main spark to this prodigious war was when Emperor Alexis I of the Byzantine Empire requested assistance to Christian nations in order to defend its capital city of ... Opinions on whether corporal punishment should be accepted into society have lingered considering there are so many variables that cause people to have diverse opinions about the subject. It should not be a surprise that most studies prove when parents favor corporal punishment, they tend to be more likely to use it with their children (Flynn, 1998). Not only does the age of a person being surveyed affect opinions on physical punishment, but religion is also a huge factor when it comes to supporting corporal punishment.
