The Deconstruction Of Mentor Texts Essay
Each of the three cycles included one initial draft writing session, one elaborating ideas session and
one changing vocabulary session. Each of the inquiry cycles had a different authentic context and
topic focus and each session involved links to reading programme (Appendix ?). Although text
structure and topic knowledge was not an explicit focus of the intervention, it is recognised as an
essential foundation of expert writing. Therefore the deconstruction of mentor texts, analysis of text
structure and developing topic knowledge was built into the reading programme and the initial draft
writing sessions. The elaborating ideas session was focused on writing for an audience and ensuring
their writing provide their audience with appropriate, specific and depth of information. The changing
vocabulary sessions focused on identifying common words and replacing or adding synonyms that
were rarely used in their writing. Following each inquiry cycles one or two substantial changes were
made in subsequent inquiry cycles to improve and refine the teaching and learning strategies
employed, as shown in figure 3.

The Office Bully Essay
Yaidelyn Alonso
The Office Bully, by: Hawkins, K.
DeVry University Stephen Carter
September, 6, 2014
Some employers may be working with a bully, and not even know it. The Office Bully by Kathryn
Hawkins mentions virtuous points of this concept. The issue with bullies is when you think you have
escaped from them, they can ultimately return and become your boss. Although you may think they
have potentially matured and progressed as people, they are actually still stagnant in an oppressing
manner. In my opinion, they will use whatever power they have against you, especially if they become
your boss. Kathryn Hawkins mentions alerting and effective arguments in this article. She mentions

What I usually tend to look for in an article is facts! The article notes, 13 percent of employees are
currently being bullied in the workplace, while 24 percent have experienced bullying from a coworker
or boss in the past , Bullies aren t always men either: according to the Zogby study, 40 percent of the
bullies reported were women, and more than 70 percent of the time, their targets were other women
(Hawkins, K. 2010) These facts have made the article much more relevant and as a reader we want to
know how reliable an article is, these facts have proven to be true because it is also supported by an
actual experience of a different person.
Opinions are different from facts. Opinions are usually a conclusion reached by someone. I learned
that there are two different opinions. There is the verifiable opinion and the expert opinion. This
article has a bit of both just because with verifiable opinion it can be shown to be true or shown to be
false, but then again you must always attribute them to the person who gave it, Kathryn Hawkins
states, many bullies will continue to emotionally abuse others throughout their lives (Hawkins, K.
2010). An individual cannot generalize and automatically think that many bullies will continue to be
bullies in the future, but this can generally be shown to be true or false. As far as expert opinion, the
personal feelings are put the side and they look at

Solution And Responding Alternative Dispute Resolution
Reporting and Responding
Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) is defined by the National Alternative Dispute Resolution
Advisory Council (NADRAC) as an umbrella term for processes, other than judicial determination, in
which an impartial person assists those in a dispute to resolve the issues between them . There are six
key processes involved in ADR, one of which is mediation. Mediation is one of the most common
forms of alternative dispute resolution. In Australia, ADR is the predominant way of resolving
disputes and which therefore signifies the importance of students studying this subject in their law
degree. Furthermore it is argued that without a compulsory ADR subject, Universities are
fundamentally failing to prepare law ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It also improved my knowledge, the steps involved and furthermore gave me confidence in
participating in a mediation process. However, when reflecting on the role play, question is raised to
whether my experience of the mediation role play was consistent with mediation literature. The
philosophy of mediation revolves around themes and features which set mediation apart from the
other forms of dispute resolution. Three themes that arose during this assessment, which assist in
proving that the role play was consistent with mediation literature, include empowerment,
communication and voluntariness.
Relating
Personal skills, experience and knowledge can be negative and/or positive contributing factors when
participating in a mediation role play. I knew that in order to succeed in this assessment I would need
a thorough knowledge and understanding of the mediation process. For this reason, I spent a
significant amount of time learning about each step of the process such as the mediation opening,
parties opening statements, agenda, private caucus, agreement, along with others. Myself and my
other group member, playing the role of the client, were also given a personal list of facts regarding
our situation. It was essential for me to know and understand these facts in a thorough manner in order
to be successful. Having knowledge of the mediation process and the facts of my role contributed

My Experience At Hair Savvy Hair And Nail Salon
The entrepreneur I interviewed was, Dehra Battle. She is the owner and stylist at Hair Savvy Hair and
Nail Salon. The salon opened up on the Spring of 2010. I have known Dehra for the past 10 years. She
has been my personal hair stylist for the last 10 years. Being a close family friend, I have witnessed
her trials and tribulations with being an entrepreneur. I choose Dehra, because she is a wonderful and
hard working woman; she has a passion for helping others with self esteem by creating signature
styles that will give any woman the confidence. Dehra was not satisfied with working under a salon
owner who was not concerned about the workers safety and customer satisfaction. She wanted to be in
control and create an environment that customers would love to attend regularly. Her personal
background played a tremendous part of her in her desire of becoming an entrepreneur. Dehra s
mother was a nail tech part time for a the majority of her childhood. Being in this environment for a
strong portion of her life, she developed a passion for the art of beauty services. As she got older she
began to start learning how to do hair. She attended a high school that had a vocational program for
where students could earn their cosmetology license, STNA certificate, and etc. Dehra received her
cosmetology license while in high school. After graduation from high school, she worked in several
shops where she trained under some of the top stylists of Cleveland. She became the salon manager

The Evolution Of Human Species Essay
In recent years, anthropologists have made great progress in discovering all of the different kinds of
human species. The discovery of a certain early human species, Australopithecus afarensis was
initially credited to the finding of a single individual, AL 288 1, or Lucy. She has helped
anthropologists to understand the diet, anatomy, environment, sexual dimorphism, the technology or
tools used during their time, and bipedalism of this early hominin species. The evolution of humans is
interesting due to the questions we are trying to find and the answers we might never find. With the
finding of Australopithecus Afarensis and Lucy, we can understand what our early hominin ancestors
were like and the significant changes that were made from them to us today.
Humans created a theory that millions of years ago humans walked the earth, but it was not until
recently that theory became a fact. In 1974, a partial skeleton was uncovered in Hadar, Ethiopia, by
American paleoanthropologist Donald Johanson. This skeleton was named AL 288 1 and later given
the nickname, Lucy. She received the name Lucy from a popular song at the time of her discovery,
Lucy in the sky with diamonds , by The Beatles. After a series of tests, the age of Lucy was soon
determined to be an estimated 3.2 million years old (Dorey Blaxland, 2015). Her sex was established
by using one of the pelvic bones and sacrum that was discovered at the Hadar dig site. The weight and
height of Lucy have been

The Truth About Elearning.Globalization And Automation
The Truth About eLearning Globalization and automation are changing the way we educate in the
Yakima Valley, nevertheless, our community should not promote eLearning as a good pathway for
education after high school. Kurt Vonnegut, a famous American writer and World WarⅡveteran said,
Computers are no more your friends, and no more increasers of your brainpower, than slot
machines...Only well informed, warm hearted people can teach others things they ll always remember
and love. Computers and TV don t do that. A computer teaches a child what a computer can become.

What Ford is saying is that the students just don t really care to complete the course and just quit.
These students are very unmotivated to complete the course. Ford goes on to say when talking about
an algebra class offered online, 90 percent of those coming directly from high school failed the course
(134). Early Ford mentioned that this algebra class was offered for 150 dollars. Not only are the
classes inexpensive but they allow students to take the class whenever, whenever, if ever.
One of the biggest concerns about online education today is something that Thomas Friedman calls
the ambition gap (354). The new American generations are becoming less motivated and less
ambitious than the rest of the world. Not only is sending american jobs to other countries cheaper but
the individuals are much more productive and willing to do the work. Education Online would be
enabling these next generation of students laziness. In a Ted Talks seminar, Anant Agarwal, the head
of edX, tells his audience why Massive Open Online Courses still matter. Agarwal talks about the
changing generations and how we ought to keep up with technology and embrace it in the way we
educate. Agrawal insists, so rather than driving our kids into a classroom, herding them out there at 8 o
clock in the morning I hated going to class at 8 o clock in the morning, so why are we forcing our kids
to do that? So instead what you do

How Does Earthquake Affect The Mexico Earthquake
3.) The recent Mexico City earthquake that occurred on September 9th, 2017, was incredibly
destructive and devastating to the region. This natural disaster had such a significant impact because
of the plate tectonic plate setting, as well as the soil composition and high population density in this
city. One of the main factors that contributed to the dramatic impact of the earthquake was the plate
tectonics at that setting. The southwestern coast of Mexico is located along an ocean continental
convergent boundary, where the Cocoas Plate subducts under the North American Plate. As they
converge and the oceanic plate subducts under the continental plate, tension builds until they release
energy at the hypocenter. This causes seismic waves to radiate out through the crust, eventually
reaching the surface and causing and earthquake. In addition to the plate tectonic setting, the
geological composition of the region also was to blame for the vast destruction of the earthquake. The
land the city is built on is primarily sand and clay. This is a very soft, fertile soil composition. While
these characteristics are very beneficial for farming, they can be detrimental to the region during an
earthquake. This soil is loosely compacted, which allows seismic waves to reverberate vibrations,
worsening the impact. This causes the tall, multistoried buildings found in the city to sway back and
forth, as the ground holding them is so unstable. Also, soil of this makeup causes

Opinion Today Newsletter Summary
I began to scroll through the emojis on my phone. Yes, there were women s faces, and tiny women s
bodies. But for the women actually engaged in an activity or profession, there were only archetypes:
the flamenco dancer in her red gown, the bride in her flowing veil, the princess in her gold tiara. There
was a set of ballet dancers complete with bunny ears and black leotards, their smiles indicating that,
gosh, they were so grateful to God and everyone, really, for this opportunity to pose for Playboy.
There was a woman getting her hair cut, and another with her arm out, Valley Girl, osmosis ditz, as if
to say, Tenure? What is tenure? That sounds like an injury! Ow i!
Where, I wanted to know, was the fierce professor working her way to tenure?
Where was the lawyer? The accountant? The surgeon? How was there space for both a bento box and
a single fried coconut shrimp, and yet women were restricted to a smattering of tired, beauty centric
roles?

When my friend and I met up for drinks, we talked about this disparity, and the smaller one on our
screens. Scrolling through the options, we rejected the dancer and the unicorn and, in lieu of anything
else, settled on a penguin. My friend was, we agreed, a penguin. Not a creature of mythical
imagination, but something real. I d read, I told her, a recent report about several hundred thousand
penguins trapped by a collapsed glacier in Antarctica. Thousands had died, but the ones that survived
did so only through perseverance regularly traveling some 40 miles across barren nothingness to reach
the ocean.
She, and the women like her, we agreed, were creatures that persevered like crazy, and often against
all odds.

In 1993, Samuel Huntington, a teacher of political sciences at the University of Harvard, composed an
article in the diary Outside Affairs , which was very nearly happening to conspicuous significance for
the field of International Relations. Huntington s article displayed a yearning target: the point was to
give a hypothetical system to decipher the majority of the contentions that had broken out subsequent

asserts that the world has been in a non ideological period since the end of the Cold War and that the

That supposition is moderately solid on the grounds that, successfully, the organization of people into

profoundly impacts world governmental issues. In any case, he mindfully declares that the distinctions
recognizing his human advancements don t as a matter of course infer the development of contentions

Theme Of Symbolism In Catcher In The Rye
The Catcher in the Rye: Prompt 3 In the novel, Catcher in the Rye, by J.D. Salinger uses a variety of
symbols to support the thematic idea that maturation and the loss of innocence are an inescapable rite
of passage for all of humanity. Three significant symbols that signify the importance of alteration and
losing one s purity to become more suited to live in the real world are the ducks in the lagoon of
Central Park, the Catcher in the Rye , and the carousel and the gold ring. Furthermore, these three
symbols hold a significant meaning for the main protagonist, Holden Caulfield as well. Holden, the
main character, encounters many moments where he doesn t know where to go or what to do next. To
aid him in his decision making, Holden resides with the ducks of Central Park. These ducks are a
powerful symbol that the author utilizes in his novel to describe Holden s journey toward maturity.
Furthermore, Holden ponders whether the ducks are taken away and put into a zoo to be cared for
when the pond freezes at Central Park or if they are abandoned to fly away and fend for themselves.
Holden revisits the question of the ducks when he doesn t know if he should return to his parents or
learn to live on his own. Constantly, each time the ducks appear in the story, Holden s maturity
becomes augmented. For example, I stopped having a conversation with him, if he was going to get so
damn touchy about it. But he started it up again himself. He turned all the way around again, and

Basic Home Computer Network and Computer Network Security...
Introduction Generally, computer network security systems and structures considered robust are
preceded not by software and hardware but by careful planning. A typical computer network security
plan must take into consideration a wide range of security risks and vulnerabilities and from that,
develop a road map to reduce such exposure. Given the need to protect the integrity and
confidentiality of data as well as other system quality attributes, the need to mitigate exposure cannot
be overstated.
Security Risks
In regard to security risks, key considerations include what I should be protected against and some of
the main vulnerabilities common in home networks.
Vulnerabilities
Basically, home network vulnerability can be taken to be a network weak spot that can be utilized by
security threats. According to Gervasi (2005), home network is exposed to various cyber attacks
through the Internet, and has security vulnerability such as hacking, malignancy code, worm and
virus, DoS (Denial of Service) attack, communication network tapping... Other vulnerabilities include
but are not limited to insecure network architecture and design as well as flaws in password
management. There are various ways of identifying and getting rid of vulnerabilities in home
networks. These include the utilization of tools designed to carry out vulnerability scans and carrying
out an audit of possible risks.

This paper explores an advertisement found in March 2015 edition of Nylon Guys magazine (page

today it is an industry leader offering denim clothing in 18 countries and spanning 3000 locations

orientation, Grenier is an ideal celebrity for an advertising endorsement. The American comedy drama
television series Entourage, which concluded in 2011 after eight seasons, chronicles Grenier as
Vincent Chase as he ventures into Los Angeles California as an enviable celebrity along with some of

pushed the Russian Empire into the Soviet era. Leninism became the central tenant of the Soviet

Society On Differences And The Impact Of Social Factors On...
Impact of Social Factors on Individuals and the Society on Differences in Health, Life Expectancy and
Achievement between Social Groups using two Sociological Perspectives. The issues of health, life
expectancy, and achievement between social groups are very important components of life for any
individual. The World Health Organization defines health as a state of thorough and total physical,
psychological, mental, intellectual, and social well standing. Therefore, health should not be
interpreted as simply the absence of illness or medical infirmity. Life expectancy refers to an
arithmetic or numerical measure of the mean number of years a person is prospected to live on earth,
with respect to factors such as the year of birth, the number of years already lived, sex, and other
demographic determinants. Achievement, on the other hand, is defined as the level of relative success
in the society after the attainment of a certain goal or objective. This is perceived by and in
comparison with the other members of the society. According to Tajfel (2008, p. 15), achievement is
thus measured using certain common parameters. These three components of life in the society have
acute and divergent differences and are majorly responsible for the dichotomy of social life. There are
some vital social factors that control these differences which include family size and structure,
religious beliefs, wealth, lifestyles, education level, and population growth rate. While discussing the

Qantas External Forces
2.0 External Analysis
Meanwhile the external analysis refers to the people and the process that are outside the organisation
and it most unlikely that this factor can be controlled by the organisation. External Analysis can be
assessed by using PESTEL.
Political Force:
Political force describes the impact of politics in marketing decisions. It takes into consideration the
influence of a government that may affect the business environment. This includes the business cycle
of a nation, monetary policy, fiscal policies, and trade policies. For instance in 2013 the Qantas
Airlines was severely affected by the political unrest in Thailand which in result, caused a major
concern for the organisations to generate adequate revenue in that particular region. In relation to that
situation, Qantas also didn t manage to obtain their desired target of revenue in the Middle East region
due to the political instability that most Middle East country was facing from 2003 to 2010. In nut
shell, the political factor can relentlessly affect the airline industry at a particular region because
people will normally think twice before deciding on their holiday location.
Economical Force:
Economic force refers to those forces that affect how much money people and organisation can spend
and how they choose to spend it. This force examines the economy as a broad picture and its
performance owing to the global trends. This consists of the deflation rate, and inflation rate. For

the liquor store and his wife has another bun in the oven. His needs moved and he wound up plainly
discouraged, going out, drinking too much alcohol, and missing shifts. His point of view changed
again when Mama gave him some cash from the check and let him know, I m telling you to be the
head of this family from now on like you supposed to be (pg 107). From that moment on Walter
became more responsible, loving, and took on a leadership position in his family. This change was
apparent when his dreams returned while talking to Travis about driving a, plain black Chrysler (pg

My Neighbor Totoro Essay
Hayao Miyazaki has directed ten Studio Ghibli films, and many more outside the company. Most of
his films include a form of uncertainty, some of which include technological ambiguity, moral
ambiguity, and the ambiguity of age. The focus of this essay is Miyazaki s ambiguity of age,
specifically through his film My Neighbor Totoro. Through the theme of the ambiguity of age,
Miyazaki is able to show the different characteristics that are maintained through maturing,
characteristics that are left behind, and characteristics that are gained from the process of growing up.
I will focus on the differences of maturity between the two sisters and the father in My Neighbor
Totoro. Miyazaki s film My Neighbor Totoro tells the story of the two young daughters (Satsuki and
Mei), their father (Tatsuo), and the family s interactions with friendly wood spirits in postwar rural
Japan (Wikipedia). Satsuki seems to be around ten years old, and Mei seems to be around five years
old. The imbalance of maturity in Satsuki and Mei is first demonstrated when they are running around
their new house. Nothing is explicit about age Miyazaki only shows Satsuki running around the house,
and then shows Mei doing the same thing, but she does it like a young child (Miyazaki 10). This
seemingly small age difference is the foundation of Miyazaki s themes, motifs, and juxtapositions. In
the film, Satsuki and Mei s mother (Yasuko) has a long term illness
and is in the hospital. As a result, the

An Analysis Of Sherman s Unorthodox Tactics Of The Civil War

General Sherman s Unorthodox Tactics that Ended the Civil War
Scorched farms, slaughtered livestock, uprooted railway lines and cities set on fire was not typical
battle strategy previously seen on American soil. However, the Civil War was dragging on and
General William Tecumseh Sherman was determined to finally end the fighting. The circumstances
that initiated the war created a figurative and literal divide unlike America had ever seen. The
American Civil War took heavy tolls on the Union and Confederate States of America. Desperate to
end the bloodshed, President Abraham Lincoln trusted Ulysses S. Grant control of the Army and Grant
authorized Sherman the freedom to do whatever necessary to bring conclusion to the conflict (Davis
22). In the military mind of Sherman, the end justified the means and this belief is well documented
throughout his 1864 and 1865 campaign through Georgia, concluding in Goldsboro, North Carolina
(Phillips 11). Sherman despised war and the fact that America had entered into a civil war in the first
place. However, Sherman knew the conflict was unavoidable (Meiers 26). He made the decision to
follow his allegiance to the Union and eventually became the general to lead the Armies of the
Cumberland, the Ohio, and the Tennessee into the heart of Georgia (Moody 22). During this event the
wrath of general Sherman would be implanted in the South s memories. By the use of unorthodox

Oj Simpson s defense team was known as the Dream team . They were made up of multiple lawyers,
friends and close acquaintances. They defended him and won the case against the people of the state

Visual and Verbal Thinkers
Visual and Verbal Thinkers
Visual and verbal thinkers; a visual thinker is someone who uses pictures to think, and verbal thinkers
think in words. If you were to look up the definition of visual thinking, the first thing that would pop
up as an answer is; refers to a group of generative skills that, when practiced with rigorous discipline,
results in the production of novel and original ideas. By seeking to discover visual forms that fit
his/her underlying human experience, the student of visual thinking comes to know the world. Those
last two sentences were pretty confusing, so in order to help understand it more i kept looking for
something easier; to receive more of a view on visual thinking . It was already clear that a visual
thinker thinks in pictures, but needing something more descriptive, I continued to find articles and the
quotes within them. What i found is interpreted thought out this essay. Visual and verbal thinkers use
different ways of remembering things; they are different in their own mind. Visual and verbal thinkers
are different in several ways; the way they process information, the way that they can respond
differently to different types of action and the way they think can also vary among the hemisphere of
the brain you work toward. While the basic steps that are used to process information are consistent,
the skills, goals, prior knowledge, and strategies used in information processing can vary greatly
among individuals. (Sojka and Giese) What

Romanticism As A Source Of Spirituality
Classification
Romanticism is a time period in history based on a cultural revolution. It is defined differently based
on geographical location, however it overall incorporates the same common principles: (1)
imagination, (2) individuality, (3) nature as a source of spirituality, (4) looking to the past for wisdom,
and (5) seeing the common man as a hero. These common principles are what inspired writers and
artists of the time to fabricate ideas. This is how the period got named romanticism for the term
romantic, [was] long synonymous with false, fictitious and unnatural (Courthion, 1961, p. 7). Defining
the movement is what overtime pulled the art community away from the previous baroque era. By the
late 1700s romance thus had come to refer broadly to any work that could be distinguished from
works principally realistic in form and subject matter (Davey, 2006). Against the common
misconception, the Romantic Movement was not considered to be strongly influenced by love. Instead
the historically been associated with narratives of adventure, romance, and myth as opposed to
realistic stories or portrayals of history, politics, or everyday life (Romanticism, 2014).
The Beginning Historians associate the Romantic Movement as coming out of Europe as [it was a]
reaction to Napoleonic era conservatism and the political norms and the rationalization of nature
associated with Enlightenment (Romanticism, 2014). The focus on romantic literature commenced in

and persecution caused them to immigrate because of Austere taxation and tithes policies, cruel
landlords, sponsorship of land prices increased, causing already poor families to be thrown out on the

The Crusaders Challenges And Challenges Essay
As the religion of Christianity, Judaism, and Islam spread throughout the world, it brought its own
challenges and obstacles. One of the challenges was the broader movement to spread Christianity that
included Crusades , which targeted Jews, Muslims, and members of other non Christian groups within
Europe (Hansen and Curtis 387). The Christian soldiers, were called the Crusaders who attached a
cross to their clothes as a sign of belonging to a large, volunteer force (Hansen and Curtis 388). The
Crusaders hoped to gain control of Jerusalem, because they believed that this holy site belonged to
them, even though it was also a holy site for the Muslims and the Jews. Furthermore, the Crusaders

Jerusalem was the symbolic center of the Christian world. About 50,000 soldiers marched out to
Jerusalem from Europe, however only 10,000 of them made it. Out of the 10,000 soldiers, some 1,500
were knights, the only fighters properly equipped for siege warfare (Hansen and Curtis 389). In
addition to that, many of these soldiers had voluntarily come forward which meant that unlike the
soldiers in an organized army, they did not receive any pay. Consequently, there was lots of
disorganization such as rarely agreeing with each other about [the] military strategy (Hansen and
Curtis 389). The disorganization hassle had reached to such an extreme point, that the Crusaders often
could not even decide on their main commander (Hansen and Curtis 389). However, despite their

Marx s Theory Of Total Social Capital
Marx begins his analysis of capital accumulation and growth with the demarcation of capital into its
two constituent parts: constant and variable capital. The former pertains to the means of production
utilized (as determined by its mass), whereas the latter term applies to human labour power inputs of
production (and is accounted for by the aggregation of wages). The organic composition of capital was
then conceived to establish the ratio of constant (value composition) to variable (technical
composition) capital incorporated in production. In order to extrapolate the allocation capital of a
single firm across the entire economy, Marx devised the concept of total social capital. This term
refers to the average arrangements of capital in each sector of the economy, averaged across all
spheres of the economy. Capital inherently generates an annual surplus, which in turn influences the
level of variable capital employed. The surplus produced by capital is divided into revenue for the
capitalist or reinvested in production. This reallocation of surplus ultimately determines the degree of
accumulation (if more capital is reinvested, and less kept as revenue for consumption, then
accumulation will be higher). It also has an effect on wages and the demand and supply of labour (i.e.
components of variable capital). Supply increases absolutely, as does the demand for labour (if the
variable capital needed for the operation of constant capital is unaffected) and wages will grow if

that games can be an antidote to unmotivated employees. An American retail chain said that the
training program drove them to think more strategically (Walgreens, 2013). One employee from a
telecommunications company shared that the game helped him to have a better retention of skills in a
fun and addictive way (Centurylink, n.d.). These testimonials can be supported by Game Theory and
Communication. It suggests that incorporating games into interactions may develop the
competitiveness of a player. It can enforce a person to have a successful goal index and to obtain
victory over other rivals of the same field or industry. Some also iterate that winning a competition
may surpass and excel the success margin of an individual performance, and it can also improve one s
self esteem. It also states that the game theoretical model for communication envelopes better
cooperation of people for cumulative development, especially in a team (Allott, 2006). The feedback

I have ordered all Yooks to stay safe underground while the Bitsy Big Boy Boomeroo is around,

they refuse to back down. In addition, in the last stanza, old Vanltch is saying, I ll blow you into pork
and wee beans! I ll butter side up you to small smithereens! emphasizing just how strong his weapon
was and that the Yooks should be afraid, very afraid. It may seem as though Seuss is being a wee bit
dramatic, but he is only delivering the cold, hard truth that a situation like this was happening in the
real world (the Nuclear Arms Race) and that we should all take notice and try to appease it.
In the story, the nephew accompanies his grandfather to the wall in order to witness the ordeal and the
grandfather even thinks it s a good idea because this way he can witness history in the making
although neither may live to tell the story. Dr. Seuss was delivering another symbol of how both
Russia and the United States were not thinking of the safety of their own people if one country was to
drop their bomb on the other. Their only form of protection was to retaliate with their own bomb.

Greek Mythology Heroes
In this paper I will analyze two characters in two separate works, one from a literary text and one from
a film. The focus of this paper will be on heroes that have a relationship to an element of mythology. I
will use the character Odysseus from Homer s epic poem, The Odyssey and the character Wonder
Woman from the American superhero film Wonder Woman . In this essay I will analyze the gender,
appearance, actions, and roles that these heroes have. Throughout this essay, I will also discuss the
negative characteristics that both these heroes have, such as their violent actions towards others.
Heroes possess numerous qualities that make them great, however, there are certain qualities of a hero
that are consistent throughout Greek mythology; bravery, intelligence, and strength. These qualities
are significant to these two Greek Mythologies because these heroes are known to bravely risk their
lives for others, using their wisdom to guide them, all while fighting strongly for what they believe in.
This paper will serve to prove that regardless of the gender of each of these personas, the
characteristics that define a hero remain consistent.
To begin, I would like to provide the reader with some background information that pertains to these
heroes. Wonder Woman is a superhero who is also known as Princess Diana, and she grew up on the
Amazon Island of Themyseria. Wonder Woman has been granted superhero powers by Zeus, to fight

Analysis Of `` Killing Us Softly 4 `` By Jean Kilbourne
Whether we realize it or not, we are constantly surrounded by advertisements. On average, we are
exposed to approximately 3,000 ads per day, through logos, billboards, and television commercials,
even our choices of brands. But in today s society, one of the most used and influential tools of
advertising are women. But the unfortunate thing is that women are not just viewed as actresses in
these ads but as objects for people to look at, use, abuse, and more. In her fourth installment in a line
of documentaries, Killing Us Softly 4, Jean Kilbourne explains the influence of advertising women
and popular culture, and its relationship to gender violence, sexism and racism, and eating disorders.
For women, advertising exemplifies the ideal female body. According to Kilbourne, young girls are
taught from a very early age that they need to spend lots of time and money to achieve this physical
perfection. But realistically this cannot be achieved. The ideal woman s body is Caucasian, very
skinny, big breasts, no flaws, and pretty much no pores. This cannot be achieved because it is
physically impossible to look like this; the illusion comes from the secret world of Photoshop. No
woman is beautiful enough so they leave it to technology to create perfection. The supermodel Cindy
Crawford said, I wish I looked like Cindy Crawford! She knew the realities of Photoshop and body

Ashoka believed this was wrong, and was compelled to end medical insufficiency. This shows how he

these items are basic resources. Just like in the modern world, there were areas that lack access to

Stereotypes of Afrcan American Males
I had the opportunity to attend the Why do the police think I m a thug? Stereotypes of African
American males in the media event. The event opened up with a video clip titled Black Men in
America and then we had a chance to have a discussion panel with an African man named Nicholas
Peart, who has been stopped and frisked numerous times by the NYPD. The video clip, Black Men in
America, explains how mainstream media has a negative image of African Americans males and
portrayers them as criminals, drug dealers and rappers. In the video Spike Lee, a film director explains
how it s hard to push the media away from the stereotype images of black men, because the viewers of
these shows and movies don t want see positive actions, they want to see violence. Lee stated his tried
to steer away from these images by creating movies; such as, Malcolm X and Do the Right Thing, but
as a result these films never made it to the theaters. After the video clip, Nicholas Peart, a black
activist opened a discussion on the issue, by telling the audience stories of when his been stopped and
frisked. He stated after being stopped so many times he started using Facebook and Twitter to express
his feelings and talk about his experiences. Peart explained that being stopped and frisk was never a
shock to him because ever since he was young his mother enforced him that he might be stopped by
the police one day. His mother told him to always carry his identification on him, be nice to the

Discoveries often require individuals to reconsider their perspective and develop a new understanding
of the world around them. Examine this statement in relation to your prescribed text and ONE related
text. Often, discoveries can demand a re evaluation of one s outlook on life. Arguably, the process of
reconsidering perspectives is a way of making sense of the world and coming to terms with
confronting realities. This is examined throughout Robert Frost s poetic texts Stopping by woods on a
snowy evening (SBW) and the Tuft of Flowers (TTOF) and Sean Penn s film, Into the Wild (ITW).
Here the composers criticise the varied ramifications of emotional and intellectual discoveries on
individuals that have led them to reconsider their personal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Thus the narrator is provided with the purpose and reason for his expedition. His uncovering of the
butterfly and tuft of flowers forces the narrator to perceive them in a new light. The butterfly captures
his gaze a second time as he works to toss the grass to dry and led my eye to look to the sight of a tall
tuft of flowers . This sustain motif of the butterfly suggests that it is his spiritual guide. He has been

value depreciating to Mediterranean Avenue is unheard of in the board game of Monopoly. However,
in the real life game of Monopoly, a major city in America (Detroit, Michigan) had experienced a
catastrophic depreciation in value that ultimately led to the city filing for chapter 9 bankruptcy. This
writing assignment will evaluate the components that led to the rise and fall of a major city in
America. First, it is important to examine the components that led to the growth and prosperity of
Detroit, Michigan. The Rise of Detroit: The most significant factor that catapulted Detroit, Michigan
to becoming a prosperous city in America was the mass production of the automobile in the early 20th
century. Three companies encompassed the auto industry in America and they were Ford, General
Motors, and Chrysler. Consequently, the three companies were referred to as the Big Three. The Big
Three established their headquarters, and assemble plants in the Detroit area. David Littman, Senior
Vice President chief Economist, Comerica Bank (retired) stated, what really built the city of Detroit

  • 2. The Deconstruction Of Mentor Texts Essay Each of the three cycles included one initial draft writing session, one elaborating ideas session and one changing vocabulary session. Each of the inquiry cycles had a different authentic context and topic focus and each session involved links to reading programme (Appendix ?). Although text structure and topic knowledge was not an explicit focus of the intervention, it is recognised as an essential foundation of expert writing. Therefore the deconstruction of mentor texts, analysis of text structure and developing topic knowledge was built into the reading programme and the initial draft writing sessions. The elaborating ideas session was focused on writing for an audience and ensuring their writing provide their audience with appropriate, specific and depth of information. The changing vocabulary sessions focused on identifying common words and replacing or adding synonyms that were rarely used in their writing. Following each inquiry cycles one or two substantial changes were made in subsequent inquiry cycles to improve and refine the teaching and learning strategies employed, as shown in figure 3. 0.6 Research Method 0.6.1 Data Gathering Methods 0.6.1.1 Semi structured Interview Pre and post intervention semi structured interviews were conducted in a side room on the school grounds, approximately 4m x 10m, that was familiar, warm and quiet. • 3. The Office Bully Essay Yaidelyn Alonso The Office Bully, by: Hawkins, K. DeVry University Stephen Carter September, 6, 2014 Some employers may be working with a bully, and not even know it. The Office Bully by Kathryn Hawkins mentions virtuous points of this concept. The issue with bullies is when you think you have escaped from them, they can ultimately return and become your boss. Although you may think they have potentially matured and progressed as people, they are actually still stagnant in an oppressing manner. In my opinion, they will use whatever power they have against you, especially if they become your boss. Kathryn Hawkins mentions alerting and effective arguments in this article. She mentions Carole s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... What I usually tend to look for in an article is facts! The article notes, 13 percent of employees are currently being bullied in the workplace, while 24 percent have experienced bullying from a coworker or boss in the past , Bullies aren t always men either: according to the Zogby study, 40 percent of the bullies reported were women, and more than 70 percent of the time, their targets were other women (Hawkins, K. 2010) These facts have made the article much more relevant and as a reader we want to know how reliable an article is, these facts have proven to be true because it is also supported by an actual experience of a different person. Opinions are different from facts. Opinions are usually a conclusion reached by someone. I learned that there are two different opinions. There is the verifiable opinion and the expert opinion. This article has a bit of both just because with verifiable opinion it can be shown to be true or shown to be false, but then again you must always attribute them to the person who gave it, Kathryn Hawkins states, many bullies will continue to emotionally abuse others throughout their lives (Hawkins, K. 2010). An individual cannot generalize and automatically think that many bullies will continue to be bullies in the future, but this can generally be shown to be true or false. As far as expert opinion, the personal feelings are put the side and they look at ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Solution And Responding Alternative Dispute Resolution Reporting and Responding Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) is defined by the National Alternative Dispute Resolution Advisory Council (NADRAC) as an umbrella term for processes, other than judicial determination, in which an impartial person assists those in a dispute to resolve the issues between them . There are six key processes involved in ADR, one of which is mediation. Mediation is one of the most common forms of alternative dispute resolution. In Australia, ADR is the predominant way of resolving disputes and which therefore signifies the importance of students studying this subject in their law degree. It also improved my knowledge, the steps involved and furthermore gave me confidence in participating in a mediation process. However, when reflecting on the role play, question is raised to whether my experience of the mediation role play was consistent with mediation literature. The philosophy of mediation revolves around themes and features which set mediation apart from the other forms of dispute resolution. Three themes that arose during this assessment, which assist in proving that the role play was consistent with mediation literature, include empowerment, communication and voluntariness. Relating Personal skills, experience and knowledge can be negative and/or positive contributing factors when participating in a mediation role play. The salon opened up on the Spring of 2010. I have known Dehra for the past 10 years. She has been my personal hair stylist for the last 10 years. Being a close family friend, I have witnessed her trials and tribulations with being an entrepreneur. I choose Dehra, because she is a wonderful and hard working woman; she has a passion for helping others with self esteem by creating signature styles that will give any woman the confidence. Dehra was not satisfied with working under a salon owner who was not concerned about the workers safety and customer satisfaction. She wanted to be in control and create an environment that customers would love to attend regularly. Her personal background played a tremendous part of her in her desire of becoming an entrepreneur. Dehra s mother was a nail tech part time for a the majority of her childhood. Being in this environment for a strong portion of her life, she developed a passion for the art of beauty services. As she got older she began to start learning how to do hair. She attended a high school that had a vocational program for where students could earn their cosmetology license, STNA certificate, and etc. Dehra received her cosmetology license while in high school. • 6. The Evolution Of Human Species Essay In recent years, anthropologists have made great progress in discovering all of the different kinds of human species. The discovery of a certain early human species, Australopithecus afarensis was initially credited to the finding of a single individual, AL 288 1, or Lucy. She has helped anthropologists to understand the diet, anatomy, environment, sexual dimorphism, the technology or tools used during their time, and bipedalism of this early hominin species. The evolution of humans is interesting due to the questions we are trying to find and the answers we might never find. With the finding of Australopithecus Afarensis and Lucy, we can understand what our early hominin ancestors were like and the significant changes that were made from them to us today. Humans created a theory that millions of years ago humans walked the earth, but it was not until recently that theory became a fact. In 1974, a partial skeleton was uncovered in Hadar, Ethiopia, by American paleoanthropologist Donald Johanson. This skeleton was named AL 288 1 and later given the nickname, Lucy. She received the name Lucy from a popular song at the time of her discovery, Lucy in the sky with diamonds , by The Beatles. After a series of tests, the age of Lucy was soon determined to be an estimated 3.2 million years old (Dorey Blaxland, 2015). Her sex was established by using one of the pelvic bones and sacrum that was discovered at the Hadar dig site. The weight and height of Lucy have been ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Early Ford mentioned that this algebra class was offered for 150 dollars. Not only are the classes inexpensive but they allow students to take the class whenever, whenever, if ever. • 8. How Does Earthquake Affect The Mexico Earthquake 3.) The recent Mexico City earthquake that occurred on September 9th, 2017, was incredibly destructive and devastating to the region. This natural disaster had such a significant impact because of the plate tectonic plate setting, as well as the soil composition and high population density in this city. One of the main factors that contributed to the dramatic impact of the earthquake was the plate tectonics at that setting. The southwestern coast of Mexico is located along an ocean continental convergent boundary, where the Cocoas Plate subducts under the North American Plate. As they converge and the oceanic plate subducts under the continental plate, tension builds until they release energy at the hypocenter. This causes seismic waves to radiate out through the crust, eventually reaching the surface and causing and earthquake. In addition to the plate tectonic setting, the geological composition of the region also was to blame for the vast destruction of the earthquake. The land the city is built on is primarily sand and clay. This is a very soft, fertile soil composition. While these characteristics are very beneficial for farming, they can be detrimental to the region during an earthquake. This soil is loosely compacted, which allows seismic waves to reverberate vibrations, worsening the impact. This causes the tall, multistoried buildings found in the city to sway back and forth, as the ground holding them is so unstable. Also, soil of this makeup causes ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 21. Society On Differences And The Impact Of Social Factors On... Impact of Social Factors on Individuals and the Society on Differences in Health, Life Expectancy and Achievement between Social Groups using two Sociological Perspectives. The issues of health, life expectancy, and achievement between social groups are very important components of life for any individual. The World Health Organization defines health as a state of thorough and total physical, psychological, mental, intellectual, and social well standing. Therefore, health should not be interpreted as simply the absence of illness or medical infirmity. Life expectancy refers to an arithmetic or numerical measure of the mean number of years a person is prospected to live on earth, with respect to factors such as the year of birth, the number of years already lived, sex, and other demographic determinants. Achievement, on the other hand, is defined as the level of relative success in the society after the attainment of a certain goal or objective. This is perceived by and in comparison with the other members of the society. According to Tajfel (2008, p. 15), achievement is thus measured using certain common parameters. These three components of life in the society have acute and divergent differences and are majorly responsible for the dichotomy of social life. Most of his films include a form of uncertainty, some of which include technological ambiguity, moral ambiguity, and the ambiguity of age. The focus of this essay is Miyazaki s ambiguity of age, specifically through his film My Neighbor Totoro. Through the theme of the ambiguity of age, Miyazaki is able to show the different characteristics that are maintained through maturing, characteristics that are left behind, and characteristics that are gained from the process of growing up. I will focus on the differences of maturity between the two sisters and the father in My Neighbor Totoro. Miyazaki s film My Neighbor Totoro tells the story of the two young daughters (Satsuki and Mei), their father (Tatsuo), and the family s interactions with friendly wood spirits in postwar rural Japan (Wikipedia). Satsuki seems to be around ten years old, and Mei seems to be around five years old. The imbalance of maturity in Satsuki and Mei is first demonstrated when they are running around their new house. Nothing is explicit about age Miyazaki only shows Satsuki running around the house, and then shows Mei doing the same thing, but she does it like a young child (Miyazaki 10). However, the Civil War was dragging on and General William Tecumseh Sherman was determined to finally end the fighting. The circumstances that initiated the war created a figurative and literal divide unlike America had ever seen. The American Civil War took heavy tolls on the Union and Confederate States of America. Desperate to end the bloodshed, President Abraham Lincoln trusted Ulysses S. In the military mind of Sherman, the end justified the means and this belief is well documented throughout his 1864 and 1865 campaign through Georgia, concluding in Goldsboro, North Carolina (Phillips 11). Sherman despised war and the fact that America had entered into a civil war in the first place. However, Sherman knew the conflict was unavoidable (Meiers 26). • 30. Romanticism As A Source Of Spirituality Classification Romanticism is a time period in history based on a cultural revolution. It is defined differently based on geographical location, however it overall incorporates the same common principles: (1) imagination, (2) individuality, (3) nature as a source of spirituality, (4) looking to the past for wisdom, and (5) seeing the common man as a hero. These common principles are what inspired writers and artists of the time to fabricate ideas. This is how the period got named romanticism for the term romantic, [was] long synonymous with false, fictitious and unnatural (Courthion, 1961, p. 7). Defining the movement is what overtime pulled the art community away from the previous baroque era. By the late 1700s romance thus had come to refer broadly to any work that could be distinguished from works principally realistic in form and subject matter (Davey, 2006). Against the common misconception, the Romantic Movement was not considered to be strongly influenced by love. Instead the historically been associated with narratives of adventure, romance, and myth as opposed to realistic stories or portrayals of history, politics, or everyday life (Romanticism, 2014). The Beginning Historians associate the Romantic Movement as coming out of Europe as [it was a] reaction to Napoleonic era conservatism and the political norms and the rationalization of nature associated with Enlightenment (Romanticism, 2014). One of the challenges was the broader movement to spread Christianity that included Crusades , which targeted Jews, Muslims, and members of other non Christian groups within Europe (Hansen and Curtis 387). The Christian soldiers, were called the Crusaders who attached a cross to their clothes as a sign of belonging to a large, volunteer force (Hansen and Curtis 388). The Crusaders hoped to gain control of Jerusalem, because they believed that this holy site belonged to them, even though it was also a holy site for the Muslims and the Jews. In addition to that, many of these soldiers had voluntarily come forward which meant that unlike the soldiers in an organized army, they did not receive any pay. Consequently, there was lots of disorganization such as rarely agreeing with each other about [the] military strategy (Hansen and Curtis 389). The disorganization hassle had reached to such an extreme point, that the Crusaders often could not even decide on their main commander (Hansen and Curtis 389). • 33. Marx s Theory Of Total Social Capital Marx begins his analysis of capital accumulation and growth with the demarcation of capital into its two constituent parts: constant and variable capital. The former pertains to the means of production utilized (as determined by its mass), whereas the latter term applies to human labour power inputs of production (and is accounted for by the aggregation of wages). The organic composition of capital was then conceived to establish the ratio of constant (value composition) to variable (technical composition) capital incorporated in production. In order to extrapolate the allocation capital of a single firm across the entire economy, Marx devised the concept of total social capital. This term refers to the average arrangements of capital in each sector of the economy, averaged across all spheres of the economy. Capital inherently generates an annual surplus, which in turn influences the level of variable capital employed. The surplus produced by capital is divided into revenue for the capitalist or reinvested in production. This reallocation of surplus ultimately determines the degree of accumulation (if more capital is reinvested, and less kept as revenue for consumption, then accumulation will be higher). It also has an effect on wages and the demand and supply of labour (i.e. components of variable capital). Supply increases absolutely, as does the demand for labour (if the variable capital needed for the operation of constant capital is unaffected) and wages will grow if ... The focus of this paper will be on heroes that have a relationship to an element of mythology. I will use the character Odysseus from Homer s epic poem, The Odyssey and the character Wonder Woman from the American superhero film Wonder Woman . In this essay I will analyze the gender, appearance, actions, and roles that these heroes have. Throughout this essay, I will also discuss the negative characteristics that both these heroes have, such as their violent actions towards others. Heroes possess numerous qualities that make them great, however, there are certain qualities of a hero that are consistent throughout Greek mythology; bravery, intelligence, and strength. These qualities are significant to these two Greek Mythologies because these heroes are known to bravely risk their lives for others, using their wisdom to guide them, all while fighting strongly for what they believe in. This paper will serve to prove that regardless of the gender of each of these personas, the characteristics that define a hero remain consistent. To begin, I would like to provide the reader with some background information that pertains to these heroes. But in today s society, one of the most used and influential tools of advertising are women. But the unfortunate thing is that women are not just viewed as actresses in these ads but as objects for people to look at, use, abuse, and more. In her fourth installment in a line of documentaries, Killing Us Softly 4, Jean Kilbourne explains the influence of advertising women and popular culture, and its relationship to gender violence, sexism and racism, and eating disorders. For women, advertising exemplifies the ideal female body. According to Kilbourne, young girls are taught from a very early age that they need to spend lots of time and money to achieve this physical perfection. But realistically this cannot be achieved. The ideal woman s body is Caucasian, very skinny, big breasts, no flaws, and pretty much no pores. This cannot be achieved because it is physically impossible to look like this; the illusion comes from the secret world of Photoshop. No woman is beautiful enough so they leave it to technology to create perfection. The supermodel Cindy Crawford said, I wish I looked like Cindy Crawford!
