Planning involves looking ahead and determining future courses of action based on available resources to achieve organizational goals. It requires deciding in advance what will be done, how it will be done, and who will do it. The planning process involves establishing objectives and premises, choosing alternative actions, formulating derivative plans, securing cooperation, and following up on plans. Types of plans include operational, tactical, strategic, and contingency plans. Decision making defines problems, identifies limitations, develops alternatives, analyzes options to select the best choice, implements it, and establishes controls and evaluations.
