Resting Membrane Potential Of Orconectes Lab Report
This experiment seeks to analyze how the resting membrane potential of Orconectes rusticus muscle
cells changes in response to increasing [K+]o solution concentrations. By recording the intracellular
voltage of the DEM, DEL1, and DEL2 crayfish muscle cells at six concentrations of [K+]o solution,
we determined whether the observed resting membrane potentials (Vrest) were significantly different
from the predicted Nernst equilibrium potential values. We hypothesized that the Vrest of the crayfish
muscles at each concentration would not significantly differ from the Nernst potential, which solely
considers the permeability of potassium ions to the cell membrane. However, our findings suggested
differently, and results indicated that the Nernst equation did not accurately predict the obtained values
of the resting membrane potential. The differences in muscle cell Vrest reveal instead that the
membrane is differentially permeable to other ions. I. Introduction: ... Show more content on

Both electrical and chemical forces combine to determine the resting membrane potential of the cell.
Although the resting membrane potential of most cells is normally negative, the selective permeability
of the membrane allows certain ions in and out, causing the neuronal membrane voltage to become
depolarized (more positive), or hyperpolarized (more negative). Key ions involved in muscle
membrane potential are sodium, potassium, and chloride, which move via passive or active diffusion
through ion channels and transporter pumps (Baierlein et al. 2011). The Nernst equation predicts the
membrane voltage based on the assumption that the membrane is only permeable to one type of ion.
In this investigation, we are seeking to understand the basis for how different ions interact to produce
the membrane potential of DEM, DEL1, and DEL2 crayfish muscle

Essay On Similarities Between The Rome And Han Dynasty
Rome and China were some of the oldest and most well known countries in the ancient world. The
Han dynasty was a long lasting dynasty in China s history, and the Roman Empire had a long and
strong rule. Like the rules of these empires, the falls of these empires were very impressive. Several
similarities to the falls of these empires are apparent. One is the fact that they were both invaded by
other tribes that threatened their power. Another was the government corruption that weakened them
from the inside. And the last, yet very common is historical societies was taxes and economic reasons.
Apparent strongly in both empires near the end was invading tribes. The Roman Empire had been
suffering from intrusions by German tribes for many centuries. They had both endured many wins and
defeats until one force would scatter and weaken the roman empire once and for all. The deciding
force in this scenario was the Huns. Afraid that the Huns would attack them, the Germans sought
refuge in the Roman Empire, with Rome begrudgingly agreeing to let them settle on some empty land.
Neither side held up the bargain, however, and they ended up fighting in 378 C.E. in the battle of
Adrianople. This battle was considered as one of the most decisive battles in history. The Huns also
effected the Chinese in the Han dynasty as well, in a way. These battles took place in the Han Xiongnu
War. Starting around 133 B.C.E., the Xiongnu fought the Han in the western area for nearly 2
centuries until

Coming Into College Students
Coming into college we all probably think we have note taking figured out because that s pretty much
all you did back in high school. But you start to notice after your first couple of weeks of class your
falling behind on your notes because not use to the fast pace of the professor. The first few things you
need to have to make sure you are ready to take good and effective notes are: a binder, pencil or pen,
and a highlighter. Being prepared is the first step on becoming an effective note taker. Which includes
getting enough sleep before your class. Because staying out all late is not going to help you in class;
you won t be able to pay attention to what the professor is saying. When taking notes, you want to find
a method that works for you.

The Stacy Peralta s Film Called The Crips And Bloods
In the 1950 s when segregation laws were still very present in America and racism was at its peak,
America did not care that they were ruining the lives of African Americans everywhere. America also
did not know that they had created two very dangerous monsters who would later run the streets of
Los angles, using murder to do so. In Stacy Peralta s documentary film called The Crips and Bloods:
Made in America , gangs and gang violence is explained and shown in great detail. This documentary
is used to attempt to bring attention to these gang s brutal way of life and what caused this
monstrosity. It is also used to bring attention to what can be done to prevent any further gang violence
and possibly help bring in funds for programs that help with this cause, since they receive no federal
money. This documentary is successful in doing this by using raw footage to create a feeling to some
degree of sympathy for the people involved with gang activity. They also use every day people who
have had their lives forever impacted because of gang violence.
Using the three rhetorical appeals in essential to this documentary and its purpose. The ethos form is
very important here because it sets up good credibility and background for these gangs and their
members. The documentary starts out by using former gang members Ron, Bird, and Kumasi to
explain how and why these gangs began. Using actual gang members makes this documentary
automatically feel more relatable. The use of

Gaming And The Media Industry
Gaming, the growing titan of the media industry, has affected almost everyone in some way, even if
they do not play games themselves. Everyone knows at least one person that plays games, and
whether they play them on a computer, a console, or a mobile device, their gaming has most likely
affected their relationships and health in some way. They could cancel events with friends using the
excuse that their World of Warcraft raiding guild won t wait for their real life, or they may suddenly
shave off a lot of belly fat, and credit their excessive play of Wii Sports Club for their rapid boost in
physical health. The two games mentioned prior, one being a massively multiplayer online roleplaying
game (MMORPG) and the other being a fitness game, are completely different, and thus, effect the
people that play them in different ways. On top of that, the differences between these two games are
just an insanely small snapshot of the variety of games. Just like works of literature, there are several
different genres that define games such as: platformer, simulation, education games, and many more.
This variety of genres attracts many diverse groups of people, and this allows gaming to effect large
groups of people in a multitude of ways. At face value, it may just seem like a form of entertainment,
but this power that video games have over significant portions of the masses allow them to change
how people interact with themselves and others. There are several positive mental and

The Talented Prokofiev And Beethoven Essay
Samantha Davis MUSIC 1302 Professor Eldridge The Talented Prokofiev and Beethoven Throughout
history, many musicians and composers made a great impact on the musical world as we know it
today. Some of the greats were Sergei Prokofiev and Beethoven. Even though they came in different
time periods, they both made a huge impact on the musical world. Sergei Prokofiev was a 20th
century Russian composer. His father, Sergei Alekseievich Prokofiev, was an agriculturalist and his
mother, Mariya Zitkova, was a self taught pianist. Since his mother was a pianist, he found the love
for music at a young age. Prokofiev composed his first opera at the age of 9, and when he was around
13 years old, Prokofiev attended St. Petersburg Conservatory to study composition. Prokofiev wrote in
many genres including ballets, operas, symphonies, and even film music. He has played and lived in
many countries including Russia, America, and Itlay. Throughout his career, many of Prokofiev s
work brought him great recognition. However, his Piano Concerto No. 3(1921) marked one of the
peaks of his dynamic national style. This concerto was dedicated to his friend Boris Bashkirov.
Prokofiev s Piano Concerto No. 3 was written during the time when he wandered from Russia because
of the Bolshevik Revolution. This piece is the most carefully crafted of his early Concertos. The
structure is one movement, the music is tonal, and it is the shortest of Prokofiev s concertos. It

How Do Urban Planners Use Zoning
Urban planners use zoning to designate the land use in the city. Examples of zoning districts include
residential, commercial, industrial, and mixed use. Within these districts, there are certain uses,
permitted use, in which the land is intended; in addition, there are exceptions to these uses. Zoning can
be disadvantageous due to the discriminatory practices based off of race and class; however, zoning is
a very important tool because it provides a guide for future development and support public interest.

Taking a Look at Ritalin
Ritalin Each day, more and more children, young adults, and even adults are diagnosed with Attention
Deficit Hyperactive Disorder, more commonly known as ADHD. According to the Center of Disease
Control (CDC), 6.4 million Americans aged 4 17 have been diagnosed with ADHD since 2011, and
this number is steadily growing. As one of the most common neurodevelopmental disorders in
children, ADHD is often diagnosed in childhood and is a non curable, yet manageable, disease. The
most common treatment of ADHD is through stimulant medication, such as Ritalin. Since the 1950s,
Ritalin has aided in the treatment of hundreds of thousands of patients affected by ADHD, and is less
commonly used to treat narcolepsy, depression and obesity. Ritalin is a central nervous system
stimulant, and is effective by affecting chemicals in the brain and nerves that are contributed to ADHD
symptoms. Specifically, it works as an enzyme toward the chemicals dopamine and noradrenaline in
areas of the brain that play a part in controlling attention and behaviour. The original patent for this
drug was held by CIBA but has been transferred to the Novartic Corporation. It became licensed in
1955 by the U.S. Food and and Drug Administration. According to studies and surveys conducted by
the CDC, approximately 4.3 million ADHD affected patients are currently prescribed Ritalin. The
New York Times has reported that sales of Ritalin have more than doubled between 2007 and 2012,
from $4 billion to $9

Analysis Of The En Plein Air Paintings By William Cullen...
During the 19th century, the en plein air paintings were introduced to many artists. Since that, natural
light became particular important to the Hudson River School. Also, art and literature were constantly
entwined, such as American Romanticism. Significant individuals became familiar with one another s
work, resulting in inspiration that led to creative works that pay homage to another artists work. For
instance, Asher Brown Durand s Landscape Scene From Thanatopsis was inspired by the romantic
poet William Cullen Bryant, whose work was influenced by the multifaceted cultural creations. Both
Bryant and Durand investigated the themes of men, nature, individualism, and the inner and after
lives. Through detailing natural elements that emphasized the life cycle, Durand created literary art by
paying tributed to Bryant s Thanatopsis . Asher Brown Durand was an American painter, one of the
founders of the Hudson River School of landscape paintings. He was born in 1796, New Jersey, USA.
He died in 1886. He used to be an engraver. He illustrated gift books and annuals, and engraved a
popular series of 72 portraits of antemproary Americans. In 1840, he visited Europe to study the works
of old masters. After he returned, he went to Adirondack Mountain with Thomas Cole to do the en

Viking Battle Tactics
Viking battle tactics and weaponry continues to impact our world today. From the unique technique
that the Viking performs in battle to the powerful weapons used. The Vikings were the first and
probably the last to introduce their unique battle tactic. Which is that they had no professional
standing army and did not fight regular formations (Viking Weapons and Warfare). The formation was
to charge towards their enemies all at once, catching their enemies off guard and giving the Vikings
the advantage of the upper hand. They were able to win battles with the formation due to the loyalty
bond between the Viking men and women with their lords (Viking Weapons and Warfare). Another
unique battle tactic the Vikings introduced was the spread and lay their weapons in the surrounding
area where the battle takes place beforehand, just in case the formation were to backfire (VIKINGS
MILITARY TACTICS AND FORTIFICATIONS).
This tactic was also an advantage if the enemies were to attack first, they would get injured first before
the Vikings can attack. The development of weapons that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Abortion, An Act Of Killing
Abortion has been a topic of ethics for as long as time can remember. Abortion is a difficult and
controversial moral issue that most have dealt with or heard about. Most would argue that no one has
the right to demand large sacrifices from another simply to sustain their own lives, while others see
abortion as an act of killing, which is clearly wrong. Both sides have important moral insights, even if
ultimately these insights are outweighed by the insights of the other side. Each and every person has
their own viewpoint that is biased simply because of their religion or how they were raised. Opinions
are passed on generation to generation and each generation with a more developed educated view
attempts to change these views. The goal of this ethical argument is not to convince to accept one
position or the other, but to help to understand both sides.
Without knowledge of both sides, the argument continues. Beware of the labels Pro life and Pro
choice. They imply that the other side is against life or against choice. They ignore the nuances in a
person s position. There are two principal moral considerations. People consider the moral status of
the fetus and on the other hand the rights of the pregnant woman. There are distinctions to whether it
is immorally wrong or if it should be illegal. These are distinct issues. Not everything that is immoral
is necessarily illegal. We may, for example, want to say that being unfaithful in one s marriage is
immoral, but we

Ancient Roman Dwellings Evolved Architecturally In Time
Ancient Roman dwellings evolved architecturally in time from simple huts in the earliest times, to
sophisticated and extremely long lived structures in the later Republic and Imperial Rome following
the annexation of the Greek city states. This is very evident in many Italian and Greek cities where
archaeologists have found different occupational levels, with each lower architectural strata being
much more ancient (Lavan, Özgenel, Sarantis, 2007). Typically, however, Roman architecture refers to
the period from the establishment of the Roman Republic (6 century BC) to the relocation of the
capital to Constantinople in 330AD. An architectural period supported by two great innovations: the
cement and the arch.
The Romans adopted the lime ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

which three or four generations live together under the leadership of the oldest male. While each sub

domestic animals, play together safely all day long in the enclosed courtyard, under the supervision of
the grandparents. Such an arrangement not only pools the resources but, also, free the parents for
working outside. In such a semi coenobitic life style, the distinction between siblings and cousins is
not as clear cut as in Western societies. However, the Roman domus also housed the servants and
slaves.
However, just like today, the vast majority of the Roman urbanites lived in cramped, multi story
apartment buildings called insulae. Even so, rich and poor people did not live segregated ghettos;
luxurious domi and shabby insulae were intermingled in the cities. At first, these buildings were made
with timber, and mud brick; however, the concrete allowed the Roman tenement buildings to reach
new heights, with some being seven stories

The Value Of Digital Privacy In An Information Technology Age
The Value of Digital Privacy in an Information Technology Age Introduction Individual citizens rights
to digital privacy continue to be to challenged by the increasing need for national security one the one
hand, and the increasing digital vigilance many companies are putting into place to protect themselves
while learning more about their customers. These factors are a volatile catalyst that continues to
change the ethical, legal and personal landscape rights of digital privacy in the information technology
age. The depth and pace of change that is occurring in the areas of capturing, aggregating, analyzing
and using personal data is unprecedented and will continued to escalate as new risks emerge
(Ottensmeyer, Heroux, 1991). In conjunction with these volatile catalysts of change, there has never
been an era where every aspect of activity in a company or enterprise is monitored (Riedy, Wen,
2010). From the use of company telephones and networks to the monitoring of Wi Fi signals
accessible from outside the four walls of a business, surveillance and the implications for digital
privacy continue to exponentially increase. Beginning with an analysis of three dominant technologies
that give individuals the ability to research others backgrounds and personal data, this paper looks at
the advantages and disadvantages to this type of information distribution. Thoroughly list and describe

Intersubjectivity And Self Disclosure On The Age Of The...
Intersubjectivity and Self Disclosure in the Age of the Internet The subject of self disclosure has
become a popular point of debate and contention within the psychoanalytic literature. From the
conservative stance of traditional Freudian schools of thought to the more permissive stance of the
Relational school, the choice to self disclose and what content is permissible to disclose to patients has
been the subject of diverging viewpoints. As mediums of communication continue to evolve, self
disclosure has become a complicated issue, specifically as it concerns the Internet. The pervasive role
the Internet plays in the lives of many people and the ways in which effects patient analyst
communication have yet to be fully explored by analytic thinkers. As result, both the intentional and
unintentional opportunities for self disclosure via the Internet can be anxiety provoking for an analyst
to navigate. However, this paper proposes that an analysts and patient s presence on the Internet
underscores aspects of Intersubjectivity Theory, and that, when thought about intersubjectively, the
anxiety of internet self disclosure can be better managed and assuaged as compared to other
theoretical frames that largely rely on Cartesian, subject object working models. The psychoanalytic

New England Essay
The landscape of New England was covered by a massive ice sheet called the Laurentide glacial sheet
extending all the way down to New York. The physical footprint of this ice flow left prehistoric fossils
embedded in the soil throughout New England. As the sheet receded, it left a trail of debris which
scraped the land forming mountain bluffs, rivers, lakes and ponds. Such areas like Springfield, Hadley,
Amherst, and Sunderland were later communities that developed after Lake Hitchcock which covered
the valley drained out and receding into the current bank of the Connecticut River. The emptying of
the basin flowed right down to the Atlantic Ocean emptying in Connecticut. Prior to European settlers
such towns were previous Native American lands ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Their diets consisted of squash, corn beans, wild berries including cranberries, blue berries which
were also used as natural dyes. Wild nuts from the hickory and chestnuts added protein to their diets
while hunting and fowl catching increases additional protein sources from the land. The river and
stream ran flush with trout and salmon every season providing annual diet varieties throughout the
year. The incorporation of hunter gatherer and agricultural society for the natives proved to benefit
communities as populations increased in number. Tribal members live in wigwams constructed from
tree bark and bent over branches. Some communities build long houses which fit several families in
on building. Such housing was again made from organic materials including tree bark from pine trees
which were abundant in the virgin New England forests with canopies surpassing their heads.
Living off the land in a means of meeting sustainable comfort and taking only what they need the
Native American tribes maintain a rich stock of natural resources. Such moderation of ecological bio
systems consistently provided year after year tribes would continue to reap the benefits of the
environment. With each tribe came community packs defending surrounding tribes in confrontation
with other tribes competing for resources and land rights. For the Pioneer community such differences
occurred throughout the valley all throughout the early 15th century urban development of virgin

The Watchmen is a action, mystery, and sci fi film which is directed by Zack Snyder and tells the story
of a dystopia 1985. Each character in the film has their own significance and through the flashbacks of
certain characters we find out how the world, and the characters, ended up the way they did. When the
group of retired superheroes return from their retirement, they are called back together once again to
investigate the murder of the comedian who is one of their own. The death of the comedian leads to
his investigation which also leads Rorschach on the journey of a monumental conspiracy. After

An example of a character representing an ethical theory is Ozymandias. Ozymandias represents the
theory of pleasure and pain as he focuses particularly on organized crime and earning a reputation as
the smartest man on the planet. Jeremy Bentham the philosopher believed that pleasure and pain are
the two motivating forces in life. Ozymandias knows that to gain the pleasure in what he wants can
cause pain but he chose the decision in life in which would give him a higher output of pleasure and a
lower output of pain and in the end he is deemed as the smartest man in the world. Another example of
ethical theories is how Ozymandius has a utilitarianism approach. He believes that the greatest amount
of good done to the greatest amount of people is the right way to go, even if it involves killing or lying
and this belief if called utilitarianism. In The Watchmen, Ozymandius displays his own ethical theory
which leads to him sort of helping save millions of lives because in the film he tries to make Doctor
Manhattan seem like the bad guy. He believes that humans are not capable of avoiding a nuclear war
because in his eyes World War III is inevitable and billions will be killed for sure. In the end,
Ozymandius actions are right because they are useful and are for the benefit of a majority of people.
Finally, Rorschach is also an example of a character in The

Why Demographic Trends Spell Trouble For China And Russia
Introduction All around us there are forecasts predicting the future. Whether it s an article in Forbes
entitled Why Demographic Trends Spell Trouble For China And Russia And Prosperity For US
predicting a prosperous economy for the United State and Canada in 2035 (Preston, 2015) or the CEO
of Facebook Mark Zuckerberg at the F8 2016 Conference unveiling his roadmap on what Facebook
would look like in 10 years (Buxton, 2016). Both are examples of prediction that use different forecast
techniques to predict a future outcome. The article from Forbes, predicts a possible future due to
demographic trends, whereas, Mark Zuckerberg forecasts a preferably or probable future due to
advancements in technology. However, there are number of different forecasting techniques that are
used today in business, government, and military to predict future outcomes. This paper looks at the
different techniques for forecasting the future and how some futurists use these different techniques
for predicting future trends, technologies, and events.
Forecasting Methods First it must be noted, that no forecasting technique can be certain, however,
they can come close to a possible, preferable, or probable future. Second, the further into the future the
predictions the higher the uncertainty of the forecast (Gordon, 2009). The reason for greater
uncertainty is the possible of a wild card or black swam event happening that would be a total surprise
and have a major effect on the long term

The Titanic And The Sinking Of The Titanic
The Titanic If you are from the U.S then you have probably ran across the movie The Titanic . One of
the most dynamic and thrilling movies that involves a romantic disaster of two passengers, featuring
leonardo dicaprio and kate winslet as Jack Dawson and Rose Dewitt Bukater. The main plot of the
story portrays jack and rose meeting each other in the Titanic aka the ship of dreams and falling madly
in love with each other. Unfortunately the ship hits a iceberg and sinks to sea leaving many passengers
horrified and jack dying to save Rose. After summarizing the story of the movie, many people who
have watched it only focus and sympathize for the romantic disaster of the main characters. Although
the movie gives a well depiction of the sinking of the titanic, the movie does not show the full
evaluation of what happened in the Titanic and also the aftermath of the Titanic. This essay focuses on
the nautical/maritime archaeology of the sinking of the Titanic. The Titanic was built around 1911 and
1912. The ship was constructed with thousands of one inch thick steel and two million steel and iron
rivets that were equipped with the latest technology during the time. The Titanic was designed to be the
largest ship afloat. Multiple engineers who helped design the ship believed it would be unsinkable,
because of the use of hard steel and 16 watertight compartments in case of a leaking emergency. On
2:20am on April 15, 1912 the ship was sailing too fast for the icy conditions and

Catch 22 War Quotes
Catch 22
War does not determine who is right... only who is left. This inspirational quote, stated by Bertrand
Russell, really gives us a clear depiction of the ineffectiveness of going to war. In the book Catch 22,
written by Joseph Heller, the art of going to war is viewed as a very trivial, frivolous way of solving
disputes between countries with differing opinions. In general, war is one of the many solutions to
solving a conflict of interests, usually occurring on both national and international level. Heller s book
gives a very fatalistic view on the basic anatomy of war, explaining why it is an unnecessary conflict
between individuals that do not know each other for causes that they may not even fully believe in,
completely illustrating the hopelessness of war. Among many other great war novels stands Catch 22,
and by analyzing the pre arranged impossibility of leaving the army, observing how Yossarian s
experiences affect his mental state, and understanding why Yossarian s will to live is so strong, readers
may be able to grasp Heller s views on war, and in the end, perceive why war should not the
preeminent choice that groups with differing opinions come to. ... Show more content on

Karl Marx and Humanity
Karl Marx, a modern German philosopher, forever altered our perception of who we are by offering a
description of human nature that differs from traditional thinking. Although Marx s theories were
groundbreaking, they do not escape criticism. More specifically, differing views are offered for both
the importance of labor and how our society shapes our nature. In this essay, I will be addressing these
two opposing views and arguing for Marx s description of human nature.
Marx rejects the idea that human nature consists of any certain, particular activity. He instead puts
forward the idea that our human nature is a product of the society we live in (Wall, 2005). Marx
accepts the notion that humans are rational, thinking things and expands ... Show more content on

Marx suggests that the Bourgeoisie was able to exploit the working class because it is the ruling class
in a capitalistic society, thus its actions are backed and enforced by the State (Wall, 2005).
From his disdain of Capitalism arose Marx s idea of the perfect society for human nature,
Communism. Communism is a system in which there is no private property, no social classes, and no
excess capital. The government essentially has total economic control, including owning both the
means of forces of production, as well as having an exclusive monopoly of the banks. This practice, in
turn, eliminates the exploitation and alienation of any persons. Communism embraces the idea that
you contribute what you can and take what you need without any form of inequality. Each man would
work for the collective good for all, as opposed to working for his own individual good. Individuals
only have to spend the minimal amount of time working as a means to survive, allowing for more time
to become self actualized, happy beings through the creative activity of their choice (Wartenburg,
1982). Thomas Hobbes offers an opposing view to Marx s idea of labor that may appear more
favorable to some. Hobbes argued for the belief that the best way to live life is selfishly, putting your
own personal desires before others. This is the life of a free rider , one who receives the benefits of
[others] generosity without

6). Meaning Montana is losing as many youth in its state alone, that compares to the surrounding
states of the nation!
There are several contributing factors that play a role in this drastic driven reaction. There was an
article published in the Billings Gazette in 2012 that talked about how people in Montana seem to
have the Cowboy up mentality and put off being seen because it shows a sign of weakness (Uken,
2012, p.2). Whatever you are going through at the time is challenged and sometimes tucked away in
your memory; the stress builds up. This increases depression which is the number one related link to
suicide (Uken,2012, p.7.para.1).
American Indians have the highest suicide rates in Montana and make up 7% of the population (Uken,
2012, p. 3). The high unemployment and substance abuse is shown to be a major factor (Uken, 2012,
p. 3).There is a shortage of employment all over Montana, not just pertaining to the reservations. This
shortage and not having enough mental healthcare professionals to cover all of the small towns in
Montana, limits people being seen and treated (Uken, 2012, p.4,para.6).
Physicians and healthcare professionals play a big percentage in their role of suicide. Seventy percent
of individuals who had followed through with suicide had visited their doctor within one month (
Rosston. K,2012, p.2)! This percentage is one of the most astounding numbers researched. Health care

The European Convention Of Human Rights
The European Convention of Human Rights (ECHR) can be defined as an international agreement
initiated within the Council of Europe, which was established in 1949 in Strasbourg in France in order
to unify Europe after the Second World War (Harries et al., 2014; O Boyle, 2014). According to
Donald et al., (2012), United Kingdom was among the first countries to adopt and has played an
important role in ECHR creation at that time. In 1966, the petition and jurisdiction of UK s citizens
was voluntary and individuals was able to take a case and jurisdictions to the ECtHR in Strasbourg.
Latterly, in 1998 this process become compulsory for all countries that are members of the (ECHR).
Since that time, European countries has become covered under this agreement as a form of legal
system in the unify area. However, it could be argued that the UK has the least number of cases in the
ECtHR in Strasbourg. O Boyle (2014. P. 15) stated that The UK has a very low rate of defeat at
Strasbourg. Of the nearly 12,000 applications brought against the UK between 1999 and 2010, the
vast majority fell at the first hurdle . Further they stated that, Only three per cent (390 applications)
were declared admissible. An even smaller proportion of applications 1.8 per cent (215) eventually
resulted in a judgment finding a violation , which in terms means that the UK has lost only 1 out of 50
of the cases that took place in the UK. Thus, some one could argue and question the extant that this

Nagasaki and Hiroshima were two of the cities that had the biggest concentration of Japanese soldiers.
Dropping the bombs on the heavily militarized cities forced the Japanese to surrender. Immediately,

the way things work around them. They follow these paths because they believe that it is justified. In

rebellious. Uncle Axel rebels against the expectations that is put on him in his society, Anne abandons
her inborn ability and the group of telepaths, while Gordon revolts against the established power of

believes that [she] knows what [she] intends to do: the rest of [them] don t know what [they] intend to

themselves satisfied without considering how it might affect others. This shows that people tend to

chooses to marry Alan, which put her at risk of Alan finding out about the telepathic. Alan finds out

  • 2. Resting Membrane Potential Of Orconectes Lab Report This experiment seeks to analyze how the resting membrane potential of Orconectes rusticus muscle cells changes in response to increasing [K+]o solution concentrations. By recording the intracellular voltage of the DEM, DEL1, and DEL2 crayfish muscle cells at six concentrations of [K+]o solution, we determined whether the observed resting membrane potentials (Vrest) were significantly different from the predicted Nernst equilibrium potential values. We hypothesized that the Vrest of the crayfish muscles at each concentration would not significantly differ from the Nernst potential, which solely considers the permeability of potassium ions to the cell membrane. However, our findings suggested differently, and results indicated that the Nernst equation did not accurately predict the obtained values of the resting membrane potential. The differences in muscle cell Vrest reveal instead that the membrane is differentially permeable to other ions. I. Introduction: ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Both electrical and chemical forces combine to determine the resting membrane potential of the cell. Although the resting membrane potential of most cells is normally negative, the selective permeability of the membrane allows certain ions in and out, causing the neuronal membrane voltage to become depolarized (more positive), or hyperpolarized (more negative). Key ions involved in muscle membrane potential are sodium, potassium, and chloride, which move via passive or active diffusion through ion channels and transporter pumps (Baierlein et al. 2011). The Nernst equation predicts the membrane voltage based on the assumption that the membrane is only permeable to one type of ion. In this investigation, we are seeking to understand the basis for how different ions interact to produce the membrane potential of DEM, DEL1, and DEL2 crayfish muscle ... • 3. Essay On Similarities Between The Rome And Han Dynasty Rome and China were some of the oldest and most well known countries in the ancient world. The Han dynasty was a long lasting dynasty in China s history, and the Roman Empire had a long and strong rule. Like the rules of these empires, the falls of these empires were very impressive. Several similarities to the falls of these empires are apparent. One is the fact that they were both invaded by other tribes that threatened their power. Another was the government corruption that weakened them from the inside. And the last, yet very common is historical societies was taxes and economic reasons. Apparent strongly in both empires near the end was invading tribes. The Roman Empire had been suffering from intrusions by German tribes for many centuries. They had both endured many wins and defeats until one force would scatter and weaken the roman empire once and for all. The deciding force in this scenario was the Huns. Afraid that the Huns would attack them, the Germans sought refuge in the Roman Empire, with Rome begrudgingly agreeing to let them settle on some empty land. Neither side held up the bargain, however, and they ended up fighting in 378 C.E. in the battle of Adrianople. This battle was considered as one of the most decisive battles in history. The Huns also effected the Chinese in the Han dynasty as well, in a way. These battles took place in the Han Xiongnu War. Starting around 133 B.C.E., the Xiongnu fought the Han in the western area for nearly 2 centuries until ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. The Stacy Peralta s Film Called The Crips And Bloods In the 1950 s when segregation laws were still very present in America and racism was at its peak, America did not care that they were ruining the lives of African Americans everywhere. America also did not know that they had created two very dangerous monsters who would later run the streets of Los angles, using murder to do so. In Stacy Peralta s documentary film called The Crips and Bloods: Made in America , gangs and gang violence is explained and shown in great detail. This documentary is used to attempt to bring attention to these gang s brutal way of life and what caused this monstrosity. It is also used to bring attention to what can be done to prevent any further gang violence and possibly help bring in funds for programs that help with this cause, since they receive no federal money. This documentary is successful in doing this by using raw footage to create a feeling to some degree of sympathy for the people involved with gang activity. They also use every day people who have had their lives forever impacted because of gang violence. Using the three rhetorical appeals in essential to this documentary and its purpose. The ethos form is very important here because it sets up good credibility and background for these gangs and their members. The documentary starts out by using former gang members Ron, Bird, and Kumasi to explain how and why these gangs began. • 7. Gaming And The Media Industry Gaming, the growing titan of the media industry, has affected almost everyone in some way, even if they do not play games themselves. Everyone knows at least one person that plays games, and whether they play them on a computer, a console, or a mobile device, their gaming has most likely affected their relationships and health in some way. They could cancel events with friends using the excuse that their World of Warcraft raiding guild won t wait for their real life, or they may suddenly shave off a lot of belly fat, and credit their excessive play of Wii Sports Club for their rapid boost in physical health. The two games mentioned prior, one being a massively multiplayer online roleplaying game (MMORPG) and the other being a fitness game, are completely different, and thus, effect the people that play them in different ways. On top of that, the differences between these two games are just an insanely small snapshot of the variety of games. Just like works of literature, there are several different genres that define games such as: platformer, simulation, education games, and many more. This variety of genres attracts many diverse groups of people, and this allows gaming to effect large groups of people in a multitude of ways. At face value, it may just seem like a form of entertainment, but this power that video games have over significant portions of the masses allow them to change how people interact with themselves and others. The Talented Prokofiev And Beethoven Essay Samantha Davis MUSIC 1302 Professor Eldridge The Talented Prokofiev and Beethoven Throughout history, many musicians and composers made a great impact on the musical world as we know it today. Some of the greats were Sergei Prokofiev and Beethoven. Even though they came in different time periods, they both made a huge impact on the musical world. • 10. Taking a Look at Ritalin Ritalin Each day, more and more children, young adults, and even adults are diagnosed with Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder, more commonly known as ADHD. According to the Center of Disease Control (CDC), 6.4 million Americans aged 4 17 have been diagnosed with ADHD since 2011, and this number is steadily growing. As one of the most common neurodevelopmental disorders in children, ADHD is often diagnosed in childhood and is a non curable, yet manageable, disease. The most common treatment of ADHD is through stimulant medication, such as Ritalin. Since the 1950s, Ritalin has aided in the treatment of hundreds of thousands of patients affected by ADHD, and is less commonly used to treat narcolepsy, depression and obesity. Ritalin is a central nervous system stimulant, and is effective by affecting chemicals in the brain and nerves that are contributed to ADHD symptoms. Specifically, it works as an enzyme toward the chemicals dopamine and noradrenaline in areas of the brain that play a part in controlling attention and behaviour. The original patent for this drug was held by CIBA but has been transferred to the Novartic Corporation. It became licensed in 1955 by the U.S. Food and and Drug Administration. According to studies and surveys conducted by the CDC, approximately 4.3 million ADHD affected patients are currently prescribed Ritalin. • 12. Viking Battle Tactics Viking battle tactics and weaponry continues to impact our world today. From the unique technique that the Viking performs in battle to the powerful weapons used. The Vikings were the first and probably the last to introduce their unique battle tactic. Which is that they had no professional standing army and did not fight regular formations (Viking Weapons and Warfare). The formation was to charge towards their enemies all at once, catching their enemies off guard and giving the Vikings the advantage of the upper hand. They were able to win battles with the formation due to the loyalty bond between the Viking men and women with their lords (Viking Weapons and Warfare). Another unique battle tactic the Vikings introduced was the spread and lay their weapons in the surrounding area where the battle takes place beforehand, just in case the formation were to backfire (VIKINGS MILITARY TACTICS AND FORTIFICATIONS). This tactic was also an advantage if the enemies were to attack first, they would get injured first before the Vikings can attack. The development of weapons that ... • 16. Abortion, An Act Of Killing Abortion has been a topic of ethics for as long as time can remember. Abortion is a difficult and controversial moral issue that most have dealt with or heard about. Most would argue that no one has the right to demand large sacrifices from another simply to sustain their own lives, while others see abortion as an act of killing, which is clearly wrong. Both sides have important moral insights, even if ultimately these insights are outweighed by the insights of the other side. Each and every person has their own viewpoint that is biased simply because of their religion or how they were raised. Opinions are passed on generation to generation and each generation with a more developed educated view attempts to change these views. The goal of this ethical argument is not to convince to accept one position or the other, but to help to understand both sides. Without knowledge of both sides, the argument continues. Beware of the labels Pro life and Pro choice. They imply that the other side is against life or against choice. They ignore the nuances in a person s position. There are two principal moral considerations. People consider the moral status of the fetus and on the other hand the rights of the pregnant woman. There are distinctions to whether it is immorally wrong or if it should be illegal. These are distinct issues. Not everything that is immoral is necessarily illegal. Intersubjectivity and Self Disclosure in the Age of the Internet The subject of self disclosure has become a popular point of debate and contention within the psychoanalytic literature. From the conservative stance of traditional Freudian schools of thought to the more permissive stance of the Relational school, the choice to self disclose and what content is permissible to disclose to patients has been the subject of diverging viewpoints. As mediums of communication continue to evolve, self disclosure has become a complicated issue, specifically as it concerns the Internet. The pervasive role the Internet plays in the lives of many people and the ways in which effects patient analyst communication have yet to be fully explored by analytic thinkers. As result, both the intentional and unintentional opportunities for self disclosure via the Internet can be anxiety provoking for an analyst to navigate. However, this paper proposes that an analysts and patient s presence on the Internet underscores aspects of Intersubjectivity Theory, and that, when thought about intersubjectively, the anxiety of internet self disclosure can be better managed and assuaged as compared to other theoretical frames that largely rely on Cartesian, subject object working models. This inspirational quote, stated by Bertrand Russell, really gives us a clear depiction of the ineffectiveness of going to war. In general, war is one of the many solutions to solving a conflict of interests, usually occurring on both national and international level. Heller s book gives a very fatalistic view on the basic anatomy of war, explaining why it is an unnecessary conflict between individuals that do not know each other for causes that they may not even fully believe in, completely illustrating the hopelessness of war. Among many other great war novels stands Catch 22, and by analyzing the pre arranged impossibility of leaving the army, observing how Yossarian s experiences affect his mental state, and understanding why Yossarian s will to live is so strong, readers may be able to grasp Heller s views on war, and in the end, perceive why war should not the preeminent choice that groups with differing opinions come to. ... Although Marx s theories were groundbreaking, they do not escape criticism. More specifically, differing views are offered for both the importance of labor and how our society shapes our nature. In this essay, I will be addressing these two opposing views and arguing for Marx s description of human nature. Marx rejects the idea that human nature consists of any certain, particular activity. Marx suggests that the Bourgeoisie was able to exploit the working class because it is the ruling class in a capitalistic society, thus its actions are backed and enforced by the State (Wall, 2005). From his disdain of Capitalism arose Marx s idea of the perfect society for human nature, Communism. Communism is a system in which there is no private property, no social classes, and no excess capital. The government essentially has total economic control, including owning both the means of forces of production, as well as having an exclusive monopoly of the banks. This practice, in turn, eliminates the exploitation and alienation of any persons. Communism embraces the idea that you contribute what you can and take what you need without any form of inequality. Each man would work for the collective good for all, as opposed to working for his own individual good. Individuals only have to spend the minimal amount of time working as a means to survive, allowing for more time to become self actualized, happy beings through the creative activity of their choice (Wartenburg, 1982). There was an article published in the Billings Gazette in 2012 that talked about how people in Montana seem to have the Cowboy up mentality and put off being seen because it shows a sign of weakness (Uken, 2012, p.2). Whatever you are going through at the time is challenged and sometimes tucked away in your memory; the stress builds up.
