Abstract
Nicole Oresme, also known as Nicolas Oresme, was born around 1320 in the 14th
century on the outskirts of the Norman city of Caen. Unfortunately, nothing was
known of his family. Oresme was known as one of the most famous scholastic
philosophers of the middle age s. He was known for many different subjects
including; economics, physics, astrology, astronomy, theology, philosophy, and
mathematics. Oresme earned his doctorate of arts from the University of Paris
between the years of 1341 1342. In the same year he became grand master of the
College of Navarre. He mainly wrote in the language of Latin but also wrote in

Pirates and their Influence through the Caribbean People who adopted piracy had
to adapt because of colonialism and the battles between England and the Spanish.
Those who couldn t find work chose to use their skill in the only way they knew

In the short story Cathedral, author Raymond Carver uses the narrator of the story
as a model for his purpose: blindness is subjective. Throughout the text, we are taken
on a journey of self discovery as the narrator changes from being judgemental and
shallow to having an epiphany and realizing that an individual s worth goes beyond
their outward appearance; that the greatest and most deep connections are achieved
by looking at one s heart.
The narrator of Cathedral , also known as the husband, is judgmental, jealous, and
emotionally disconnected from his wife. Throughout Cathedral , he displays feelings
of disgust and confusion toward his wife s relationships with men of her past. As he
waits for his wife and the blind man to come into the house he makes an observation:
I saw her get out of the car and shut the door. She was still wearing a smile. Just
amazing (4). Although the character is seemingly confident in the status of his
relationship with his wife, his interjections of judgment throughout the text reveal
feelings of insecurity. Him finding it amazing that his wife would be smiling for a
prolonged amount of time suggests that her reaction is not typical or an emotional
reaction that she gives him.
Throughout Cathedral the narrator assumes himself to be superior to the blind man,
Robert, making snippy comments about his disability and rationalizing that his

workforce, was introduced by Adam Smith. This paper states that the concept is
very useful and still applicable to modern societies. Although there might be some
