Essay On The Crucible
1. Essay On The Crucible
Crafting an essay on "The Crucible" can be a challenging endeavor that demands a deep
understanding of Arthur Miller's play and its intricate themes. The complexity lies not only in
comprehending the historical context of the Salem witch trials but also in unraveling the layers
of symbolism and allegory woven into the narrative.
To begin with, one must navigate through the multifaceted characters and their relationships,
deciphering the motivations behind their actions. The task is not just to summarize the events but
to analyze the underlying psychological and sociopolitical dynamics that drive the plot forward.
This requires delving into the characters' moral dilemmas, the consequences of their decisions,
and the overarching theme of mass hysteria.
Furthermore, an effective essay on "The Crucible" should explore Miller's use of language,
symbolism, and dramatic techniques. It involves dissecting the dialogue for hidden meanings,
decoding the symbolism behind significant elements like the witch trials themselves, and
examining the play's broader implications on society.
Research plays a crucial role, as a comprehensive understanding of the historical context is
essential. Engaging with secondary sources to grasp the parallels between the Salem witch trials
and McCarthyism adds another layer of complexity. It's not just about retelling the story; it's
about weaving together historical insights, literary analysis, and critical interpretation.
Expressing these insights coherently and persuasively in the essay is no small feat. The writer
must seamlessly integrate quotes from the play, external sources, and their own interpretations,
maintaining a cohesive flow throughout. The challenge lies in striking a balance between
providing evidence, analysis, and personal insight without losing sight of the essay's overarching
structure.
In conclusion, writing an essay on "The Crucible" demands more than just summarizing the plot
or analyzing characters. It necessitates a deep dive into the layers of meaning, historical context,
and literary techniques employed by Arthur Miller. It's an intellectual journey that requires
meticulous research, critical thinking, and effective communication skills to unravel the
complexities of the play.

2. Our Family Herritage
Please pardon our absence Henry and Clara. Our buggy s wheel popped off, I said
smoothing out the folds in my dress. Oh it s quite alright, Henry said waving off
my comment. What A lovely dress you have Mary, Clara said goggling my finery.
Thank You Clara, I said curtly. Shall we sit down my dear? My husband asked
gesturing to our seats. Yes of course, I said fingering the fine red material on the
back of the chair. I neatly arranged my dress so it wouldn t wrinkle, sat straight up,
and and folded my hands in front of me. Actors rushed across the stage to begin the
quirky tale.Smiling I turned to my husband and asked What was the name of this
exquisite play? It s called Our American......, He said slumping in his chair. I
looked to the right and saw John Booth standing there, smoke coming out of his
gun. Brave Henry jumped out of his seat and charged at the man. Henry was fast
but John was faster. He stabbed Henry in the shoulder and jumped out of the box
and onto the stage below. I could hear his bone snap but still he proceeded to
continue to the middle of the stage. Henry are you okay? Clara said rushing to his
side. I then looked back at my husband. Blood soaked his shirt, staining it red. So
much I thought, so much blood. Honey can you move for me? I squeaked. He did
nothing except struggle to breath. In the background I heard John yell Sic semper
tyrannis! but I didn t care. I just opened my mouth and screamed. Everyone went into

In this scenario, this customer has invested in Hadoop, in database, and in memory

and sensors, they go into Hadoop that acts as a data lake to collect a sample of the
following sources of data:
Wayside detectors. : These sensors identify spot defect such as overheated
bearings and damaged wheels, dragging hoses, deteriorating bearings, cracked
wheels, and excessively high or wide load on passing rail cars.
Acoustic detector systems. : These trackside systems use acoustic signatures to
gauge the sound and condition of internal bearings and identify those nearing
breakdownfailure. They supplement or replace systems that measure the heat that
bearings generate to identify those in the process of deteriorating.
Track geometry cars. : These technology rich cars utilize sophisticated electronic
and optical devices to inspect track alignment, gauge, curvature, and other track
conditionsso on. A new vehicle track interaction system is also used to locate difficult
to find track geometry defects. This information helps railroads determine when track
needs maintenance.
Ground penetrating radar. : This technology assists in identifying isolating below

5. America Vs Airplane
I disagree with this statement, as consumers we don t only value the invention
based on how hard it is made, but how useful it is. we could conclude this by
looking at the current invention for example: Viagra vs airplane. The wright
brothers (Wilbur and Orville) invented airplane in 17, December 1903. They both
was first inspired by birds, they observe that birds angled their wings for balance
and control, and tried to apply the same principle to their design and call it wing
wrapping . Not long after that they invented moveable rubber that is able to react
like the birds wing and they discovered airplane. With this method Wilbur is able to
fly for 59 seconds at 852 feet. This have been an extraordinary achievement. To build

I don t think that it is necessary for us to see it in this perspective, we value things
based on its effect towards us, not just based on how easy or hard it takes to invent
it. It would seems quite unfair we value things based on the result instead of the
process like for example: the wright brother put so much effort towards it and
finally their work paid off. In the other hand the Viagra pills they also give much
effort in researching and its effect toward the human body. Even thought the result is
not as expected, but his invention doesn t make us value one more than the other. In
conclusion, people based value toward the invention based on its effect towards us.
Some people value airplane more than Viagra maybe because they travel a lot, or
inverse probably because they think it is more beneficial for them. But this does not
mean the knowledge we achieve through difficulty is what we truly value. What we
truly value is its benefit towards us and that is the true measurement of value, instead
of measuring through the process we rather measure it though the advantage towards
6. Americanism And Trans-National America Analysis
Americanism and Trans National America
I am going to start with Americanism, we can see how our president
Theodore Roosevelt tried to convince all the readers that America has to be free, that
we have a lot to do with others cultures, but also we are separate from them because
we are suppose to have everything here so American civilization is not going to need
anything from another nation. Also he talk about the freedom in the religion, we can
express and think what we want, but any political movement against any body of our
fellow citizens because of their religion creed is a big offense against American
principles and
American institution. This applied for every body without distinction. He said that
there should never be any kind of union ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He want us to work together no matter where we came from to eliminate race and
religious prejudice.
On the other hand Randolph S. Bourne who wrote Trans National America said, we
have had to listen to publicist who express themselves as stunned by the evidence of
vigorous nationalistic and cultural movements in this country among Germans,
Scandinavians, Bohemians and Poles, While in the same breath they insist that the
alien shall be forcibly assimilated to that
Anglo Saxon tradition which they unquestioningly label American . He said that to
face the fact that the aliens are already strong enough to take a
share in the direction of their own destiny, and that the strong cultural movements
represented by the foreign press, schools, and colonies are challenge to our facile
attempts, is not, however to admit the failure of
Americanization. He talks about immigrants, freedom, education, younger generation
of Americans, how education should be possible to achieve a degree because he
suggest that the contribution of America will be an intellectual internationalism
which goes far beyond the mere exchange of scientific ideas and discoveries and the
cold recording of

Differences between Photographic and Painted Portraiture
In this essay I hope to define some of the fundamental differences between the above
two methods. I will discuss the advantages and disadvantages of each as vehicles of
portraiture. However, this is a very wide question and though it has great scope for
deeper analysis, lack of words and space has prevented me from exploring each point
in more detail here.
When addressing this subject, I feel it is very important to recognise that artists have
very different objectives when creating a portrait.
For some, a portrait may simply be a study of physical likeness whereas for others it
may be a study of the sitter s character, their inner personality. This distinction makes

This impersonal aspect that photography can arouse has also raised qualms amongst
artists, the issue being that we cannot see the artist s mark on a photograph in the
same way that we can on a painted portrait. In a painting people like to appreciate
and admire the way the painter has applied his/her medium or the way he/she
chooses to depict the effects of light. To an extent, this is pre assigned to the
photographer.[6] This is a major difference between the two art forms because it
brings to our attention just how much freedom the painter has. The painter s
freedom of expression is utilised in numerous ways, for instance in the size, shape
or direction of the brush marks. Bold styles and techniques in mark making such as
the latter can help bring out the character in a sitter. They can give off an
impression and reveal sides to a person which are not necessarily visible to the
naked eye. Painting can give off an impression of what the sitter s personality is like
rather than what they look like. This is something a photograph cannot achieve with
ease. It is bound by the
8. The Life And Loves Of A She-Devil Character Analysis
In society and our entertainment, men are often portrayed as the stronger and more
dominant gender. They often have a privileged status in the world since the society
we live in a mostly patriarchal. However, there are some forms of entertainment that
show men as inferior to women. Women often show hatred towards men and usually
can be hostile . This is known as anti maleor missandry. In Fay Weldon s novel The
Life and Loves of a She Devil, Ruth Patchett s husband, Bobbo, is having an affair
with a womannamed Mary Fisher. Ruth then goes through vigourous trials and
completely reinvents herself in order to take revenge on Mary for stealing her
husband and to get Bobbo back into her life. Although people may have a different
view than I do, I believe that The Life and Loves of a She Devil is not anti male
because Ruth s entire life revolves around Bobbo, because the women are depicted
as weak and needing men and because the men in the story are well rounded
characters unlike the women.
In The Lives and Loves of a She Devil, Ruth Patchett learns that her husband Bobbo
is having an affair with Mary Fisher, a beautiful woman. After Bobbo leaves to go
live with his mistress, Ruth begins to consider herself a she devil which then
causes her to plan her revenge against the new couple. Ruth cunningly ruins both
Mary Fisher and Bobbo s lives by using several different aliases to in order to get
Bobbo away from Mary Fisher. After Bobbo is found guilty of embezzlement, he

Introduction :
пѓ Regenerative periodontal treatment involves systems which are especially
intended to reestablish those parts of the tooth supporting structures which have been
lost because of periodontitis or gingival injury. The expression recovery is
characterized as a recreation of lost or harmed tissues in a manner that both the first
structures and their capacity are totally reestablished. Strategies went for
reestablishing lost periodontal tissues support the making of new connection,
including the development another periodontal tendon with its filaments embeddings
in recently framed cementum and alveolar bone.
пѓ Profound infra hard imperfections connected with periodontal pockets are the
great sign for periodontal regenerative treatment. Furthermore, distinctive degrees of
furcation association in molars and upper first premolars are a further sign for
regenerative methodologies as the furcation range stays hard to keep up through
instrumentation and oral cleanliness. A third gathering of signs for regenerative
periodontal treatment are confined gingival subsidences and root presentation since
they may bring about a noteworthy tasteful sympathy toward the patient. The
stripping of a root surface with resultant root affectability speaks to a further sign to

Leaders for social and political change
Over the course of history, there have been many battle stories, both political and
social of how nations have become what we know today. Among these stories are
those of social injustices, hatred, and racism, as well as personal and political
struggles. From the many injustices our predecessors have overcome, leaders have
emerged. Individuals who will forever be revered by millions and will hopefully
continue to inspire our youth. Nelson Mandela and Reverend Martin Luther King Jr.

Like Nelson Mandela, Martin Luther King Jr. also had a vision of racial equality. He
was a Baptist minister that led the non violent American Civil Rights Movement from
December 1955, until April 4, 1968. At the time of the civil rights movement
segregation was prevalent in the southern United States. Blacks and whites were
valued differently and considered a different class from one another. They did not
share the same rights, and black Americans were treated unfairly. The most
significant political change that occurred as a result of the actions of Dr. Martin
Luther king Jr. was the legislature that passed the American Civil Rights Act in
1965. It was through this act that racial discrimination was eliminated, and made
illegal. Finally black American people were afforded the same rights as white
Americans. The right to education, public transportation and non discrimination in
the workplace was a reality, all because Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. would not give
up, and persevered until the American Civil Rights Act was passed. This legislature
allowed for the most significant social change of all, the end of segregation, which is
directly the result of the actions of Martin Luther King Jr. In Dr. King s own words,
The American racial revolution has been a revolution to get in rather than to
overthrow. We want to share in the American economy, the housing market, the
educational system and the social opportunities (King Jr., 1966, p. 3). His dream is a

11. Descriptive Essay On A Old Dog
Our previous dog had just died and we had to put him asleep because he was really
old and sick. He had cancer in many spots in his body, he had a massive tumor, and
he felt all around miserable. After his sad death within a few months we decided to
get a new dog. My dad wanted a hunting dog so that narrowed our options of what
type of dogthat we could get. The dogs we wanted the most were an Irish setter,
English setter, or a German shorthaired pointer which was the type of dog that had
just died. All the English setters either costed way to much or were on the
opposite side of the country. Some of them were even in different countries. All
the Irish setter puppy s were too far away or to much except one breeder had them
in Missouri which wasn t to far but we wanted to see if we could find anything else
especially because there were a lot of pointers that were in our price range.
There was one pointer that we wanted a lot so we decided to meet him at a field
with the previous owner. His name was Willy and he was a pointer that we found
on a rescue sight. He was about a year old and he was already being trained to hunt.
After we met him we thought about getting him in about a week.
It was Saturday and we were going to pick up the new dog the next day. We got a
phone call from the person who was giving him a temporary house. Once my dad
got off the phone he said, I just got off the phone with the temporary owner and she
said she took Willy to work and

13. Food Additive
INTRODUCTION
The use of food additives is an emotional topic which continues to provoke
consumer concern. Despite modern day associations food additives have been
used for centuries. Food preservation began when man first learned to safeguard
food from one harvest to the next and by the salting and smoking of meat and fish.
The Egyptians used colors and flavorings, and the Romans used saltpeter
(potassium nitrate), spices and colors for preservation and to improve the
appearance of foods. Cooks regularly used baking powder as a raising agent,
thickeners for sauces and gravies, and colors, such as cochineal, to transform good
quality raw materials into foods that were safe, wholesome and enjoyable to eat. The

Colors are used to add or restore color in a food in order to enhance its visual appeal
and to match consumer expectations. The processing of peas and the preparation of
jams can lead to loss of color, and hence food colors can compensate for these losses.
Some colors are used purely for visual decoration on cakes and confectionery items.
Masking or disguising inferior quality is unacceptable uses of color.
The primary reasons for adding colors to foods include: * To offset color loss due
to exposure to light, air, extremes of temperature, moisture and storage conditions *
To compensate for natural or seasonal variations in food raw materials or the effects
of processing and storage to meet consumer expectations (Masking or disguising
inferior quality, however, are unacceptable uses of colors.). * To enhance colors that
occur naturally but at levels weaker than those usually associated with a given food.

The very means to gauge the progress of the new reform is through test scores.
Standardized tests and the test scores are now tantamount to accountability,
transforming the educational system into a dehumanized market institution. The

Dewey in spite of his secularism, had a conception of education which was almost
purely religious. Education is not concerned with intellectual values, its end is not to
communicate knowledge or to train scholars in the liberal arts. It exists simply to
serve democracy; and democracy is not a form of government. Rather it is a spiritual
community based on the participation of every human being in the formation of
social values. Thus, every child is a potential member of the democratic church and it
is the function of education to actualize his membership and to widen his powers of
participation. Under the influence of John Dewey and other educational philosophers,
William Heard Kilpatrick in the early 1900s emphasized individualism, interest and
rejected transfer of learning. Like John Dewey he proposed the progressive system in
education. (Sherman, R. 1999) Similarly, The Teachers College of Columbia
University pioneered in espousing American democratic education in the same line of
Dewey s philosophy. It seemed though that amidst criticism, the educational reform at
that period manifested success. It was in the 1940s as remembered by that generation
as the good old days in education when the United States Educational system held the
prestigious status of being better if not best. The professional leaders in the 1940s
centered their pursuit towards excellence through their programs for the public. As

17. Foundations Of Absolutism In 16th To 18th Century Europe
16th to 18th century Europe was defined by numerous reforms and changes brought
on by monarchs adopting the practice of Absolutism. Absolutism is a political system
where monarchs have unlimited, centralized authority, and absolute sovereignty over
a nation. During the rise of absolutism in Europe, many rulers were recognized by
their immense power and displays of control, this includes the standout figure, King
Louis XIV. The foundations of modern Europe were built upon several events and
movements spanning 15th to 18th century. To start, the Middle Ages were ruled by
the policy of feudalism, with the Catholic Church being the center of society. The
omnipresence of the church resulted in a series of religious acts and movements to
break out, including crusades. Overtime, crusades indirectly opened up trade and
promoted new ideas, which took power away from the Church and went towards
monarchs. The nearly limitless power of monarchs was abused and resulted in the
enactment of the Magna Carta, a document restricting power of monarchs. From that
day forward, absolutist leaders rose to power, starting in Spain and eventually moving
North during the Renaissance, Reformation, and Scientific Revolution. Many of
which, were reforms and revolutions absolutist leaders had a hand in. However,
monarchs had various restriction on them which made it difficult to achieve change,
including nobility, constitutions, and traditional views of ruling. A notable leader of

Thus, the cultural differences between the students and these civilizations in the past
become a major barrier because students have trouble drawing connections to them.
At the most basic level, students only memorize the information and dates in the
textbook; however, this neglects the more important objective in social studies, which
is for them to appreciate and understand how people from the past have impacted
their lives. Because of my own cultural background, one of the greatest opportunities
for me as a history teacher is to share with my students about the cultural diversity and
accomplishments from the past.
However, students of all different cultural backgrounds have their own
predispositions and biases about other cultures; consequently, it is hard to discuss the
events and peoples in the past that have little direct connection with students today. I
believe that the challenge of finding ways to help students comprehend how people
lived in the past is a great opportunity for me to discover ways to utilize my
experience as an immigrant to help students make connections with cultures that are
not their own. Also, effective communication is important for students because when
they talk with each other about different cultures, it teaches them how to break down
the prejudice and ignorance of those around them. However, without effective
communication, students view history as a list of intangible

After being baptized as a Christian he trained in classical Ciceronian and Platonic
methods of rhetoric leading him to become an extremely skilled practitioner of
oratory and aimed to teach others through a spiritual truth. St. Augustine is the author
of De Doctrina Christiana which includes a divided structure amongst four books.
Book Four explores the relation between Christian eloquence and worldly wisdom.
St. Augustine argues that wisdom is more important than eloquence. He stresses that
if one is unable to be both eloquent and wise, then to be sure to speak wisely opposed
to speaking eloquently. He states, though wisdom ... Show more content on

Augustine prefers one to speak wisely versus speaking eloquently, he does not shun
the idea of eloquence. Eloquence is of high value and as a rhetorician one should
have the ability to speak fluent and persuasive words. He believes eloquence can
bring power and beauty found in the sacred writings in which God can mold our
characters when spoken. This is why in Book Four, chapter four, St. Augustine
expresses that eloquence can be used to rouse the audience opposed to instruct them.
This being said, eloquence can rouse emotions of the careless or ignorant to bring
harmony to the truths of Holy Scripture. Since eloquence is considered an ornament
of speech, one who speaks with little eloquence may be seen as rude or

Mitchell Strohmeyer Lance Corporal Uch 3/4 Kilo 20120811 Importance of Gear
Accountability Gear accountability is very important in the Marine Corp. What
would a Marine do in a combat environment if he left his Kevlar back at the rear?
None of his brother s would just happen to pull out an extra for him to borrow for
the patrol. The same fundamentals apply to any other significant equipment items.
In combat environments all the gear issued is issued for a reason, whether it is
something as major as a rifle or something as small as a flashlight. It is even wise
to sometimes bring unrequired gear like an e tool just in case. I will try to explain
why Marines need their gear, what they can do to prevent it, and what could happen...

What also happens is people just lose things and have no idea until later when they
need it. Marines lose things because of a few reasons. Probably the most common
is when they are being hurried, which is pretty much 100% of the time. The other
common reason is because a lot of junior Marines are young, irresponsible, and
inexperienced. I m pretty confident that most of the senior Marines here didn t start
at the level of responsibility or leadership that they are currently at, but have been
through what the younger marines are going through and learned from their
mistakes, and now trying to teach us so we don t make them as much as we might
without the seniors. Most junior Marines, no matter their age, haven t lived the
experiences that have helped mold our seniors. These are the reasons that even
Marines older than some of the seniors aren t as mentally mature as the Marines
that may be younger but have much more experience. This is the same reason we
do police calls immediately following ranges, to ensure that nothing is overlooked.
They realize that we are deploying with them and that we will be the ones to their
left and right and will be depending on us to make it home to their families, so they
need us to be as prepared as them. Losing a piece of gear is much more serious than
an item lost in the rear during training, not only will a lost piece of gear possibly

The colour used is important to the artwork because together they create a place of
tranquillity meeting on coming havoc.
The lines that are used do not outline individual objects in the painting but define the
shapes of each. They show the direction that the artist took when painting this
particular art piece. They are delicate and sensitive lines in the sense that they are not
always visible but they still define the object.
The painting has been painted to a deep 2D form. This form creates an illusion of a
large amount of space. As if to create the illusion that you were looking out past the
village towards the horizon. This was important so to capture the full effect of havoc
reaching the harmony.
The shape of the artwork is soft and flowing into each section. By using this format
the artist has created a piece of volume and depth.
Interpretation
A peaceful village in a sense of harmony with an on coming storm, darkness and
gloom. The black birds are flying out of the impending doom to shelter.
My interpretation of what is happening is the village is peaceful sort of like the soul
and then the storm comes and suddenly everything is in havoc. As if the painter had
some form of inner turmoil when painting.
22. The painter is trying to say that nothing is ever peaceful forever and eventually
darkness will come. He was looking out over the village and saw the oncoming
storm on the horizon and the black birds fleeing and it reflected his inner

Globalization is the process in which people from diverse cultures, societies and
regions interact with each other and share their ideas. As we approach the broad
concepts of globalization, it is necessary to promptly address the impacts of it on
developed and developing countries. Globalization has affected every country and
has led to some radical changes. It has had a direct impact on our daily life and has
influenced our social norms, economy and political landscape. It has also provided
an opportunity to people from diverse cultures to interact, which has led to a change
in the way how people talk, dress and eat. The impacts of globalizationare explored in

24. Michelle Obama Comparison Essay
Comparison Essay Michelle Obama s speech was very similar to a book by
Kathleen Duble called Sacrifice. Both topics talk about being brave and how you
must believe everything will be alright in the end. Michelle Obama s speech uses
hope to aspire young women, and Sacrifice uses hope to show how to get through
hard tasks. Overall in both these topics they have very similar points that could be
easily comparable. First, Michelle Obama says It s that feeling of terror and
violation that too many women have felt {Obama 8}. This is comparable to when
the main characters sister Dorothy stands up for herself, but then gets shoved to
the ground by an angry jailor who has no respect for her(Duble 3). These two
instances are comparable because Dorothy felt violation and terror just like the
many women Michelle Obama said. Another comparable topic is when Michelle
Obama says Maybe we ve grown accustomed to swallowing these emotions and
staying quiet (Obama 9). This is comparable to when the main character Abigail gets
her bread taken away for voicing her opinion and she realizes she must stay quiet and
not voice her opinion(Duble 1). I think these to compare because the girls must

I think this is very similar to when Dorothy says Come, Abby, for we must be
braver still (Duble 1). I compare these two sentences because they both have hit a
wall of hardship but realize that there s no point in doing nothing about, you got to
be brave. Next, in Michelle Obama s speech she states ВЁWe don t give up, we
don t abandon ship (Obama 15). I think this is very similar to when Abby is
cleaning up there dead aunt, and wants to turn away from the task but there
determination keeps Abby focused(Duble 1). These these 4 topics were all very
comparable in the sense of they all came back to the original topic of
25. The Complex Nature Of The Nursing Profession
In my relatively short tenure as a nurse I have come to understand and firmly believe
that the nursing profession is widely misinterpreted and sometimes viewed by the
public as a systematic, task driven, emotionally simplistic and withdrawn profession.
When in reality the nursing profession s complex nature requires those involved to
stay current, active and embracing a dynamic approach to their interactions. A
dynamic nature is required in order to be successful in nursing, as adaptive change,
high energy and a well rounded mindset are qualities that equate to effective care. The
complex nature of interactions and health care as an encompassing system can prove
to be challenging but yield effective adaptive results. As Kleffel states that nurses
need an ecocentric view to successfully identify the multitude of interrelationships
affecting effective care (as cited in Doane Varcoe, 2004, p. 50). That is that a nurse
must approach a situation or interaction from a dynamic and comprehensive
perspective.
The many interrelationships that affect the seemingly simple interactions between
nurse, patient and families are everything but simple, in fact, they are an intricate web
of heterogeneous relational factors with a purpose of contributing and developing the
current state of being. The theoretical framework of Complexity Science paired with
Complex Adaptive System (CAS) is effective in explaining human interactions and its
key role in effective health care (Lindberg, Nash,
26. Importance Of Reinforcement And Conditioning In The...
Something is learned by the piecing experiences together and creating a behavior
change as a result of the new learning (King, 2016). Connections or associations of
events assist in the associative learning process and serve as a form of conditioning
(King, 2016). Conditioning is accomplished by two methods or approaches.
Conditioning using the operant method involves learning by consequences and
conditioning using the classical method involves learning by association (King,
2016). Using punishment and reinforcement, conditioning can be achieved using the
instrumental or operant method, while the classical method utilizes stimuli and
responses to a condition. By definition, the term positive refers to qualities or
features being present as opposed to them being absent and with negative referring
to qualities or features being absent as opposed to them being present (Dictionary,
2017). The term positive involved with operant learning works as a result of the
process and means that after conditioning the result will be more likely present or
repeated again. With negative being the exact opposite by definition and in operant
learning, the result is that after conditioning the result will be less likely present or
repeated again. Reinforcement involves the methods that increase the chances of a
behavior being repeated and occur after the behavior that you want to be repeated
occurs (King, 2016). Punishment involves decreasing a behavior as a result of a
consequence

Gastro oesophageal reflux disorder (GORD) is a common medical condition, which

regurgitation. In this clinical trial, participants have non erosive GORD, which
does not have any visible oesophageal injury1, however non erosive GORD can
progress to erosive disease in susceptible patients3. Recommended treatment for non

China, with the overall participation time being 11 weeks5. Participants will make
4 visits to the health clinic, and will also be contacted by phone 5 10 days after
their last dosage for a follow up assessment. To be enrolled onto this clinical trial,
patients must be able to identify their main symptom as a burning feeling in the
mid epigastric area and/or chest area and they must have had a history of GORD
for 6 months or longer prior to Screening with GORD symptoms that were
responsive to acid suppressive therapy5. Furthermore, they must have episodes of
heartburn for 4 or more days during the 7 days prior to Day 1, as recorded in their
diary. This clinical trial is a randomised, placebo controlled as well as being a
double blind study, which reduces the likelihood of prescriber bias. There are no
ethical issues involved with this trial, as participants must be aged over 18, and
there is a large sample size of 200 participants, which increases the significance and
reliability of the results. In my opinion, there could have been a larger sample size, as

Upton Sinclair mainly focuses on the issue of capitalism, he illustrates the
injustice by showing the harsh living condition of the workers in Packingtown.
When Ona and Jurgis take a tour around Packingtown, they are shocked to the
filthy areas of meatpacking, but still Jurgis tells Ona, tomorrow I will get a job ...
and then we can get a place of our own (Sinclair 16). This quote shows how
determined Jurgis is to start a decent life in the filthy city of Packingtown. He gets
a job sweeping slaughtered cow guts in the factory, although the place is dirty, he
is pleased because he is able to make two dollars for his twelve hours shift. Jurgis
doesn t allow his children to work because he wants them to go to school, but the
rest of the family finds work for low wages. Soon working at the factory, Jurgis is
asked to join a union, that was started by workers who were not happy with the
working conditions and wages and wanted to riot for a change. However, Jurgis
didn t join them because he believed If they couldn t do it, let them go somewhere
else (Sinclair 34). This quote shows the mentality that Jurgis has, the eager to work
harder, and those who are lazy will be left behind. The winter comes in
Packingtown and brings lots of deaths because of the cold, a lot of the workers
have died, which is not a problem because there are many more who are willing to
take their jobs. Soon, Ona gives birth to a child named, Antanas, Jurgis is really

Mathena, G., One Thing Needful.
Chapter 1: One Thing Needful
Summary:
In Mathena s insight into the story of Mary and Martha he observes, what I will call
the three C s, in Martha. This story illustrates Martha s commendable act as she
desires to serve
Christ as she wanted this meal to be her very best. Her actions are also,
condemnable , as her activity takes priority over her relationship with Christ. Lastly,
there is contempt in her heart towards Mary in her perceived poor choice.
The warning Mathena is really driving home is to the believer s posture before the

Analysis:
It seems that Mathena is thorough in finding his conclusion that we are created,
commanded and called to worship. I am more than intrigued as he considered,
particularly Moses, physical appearance following his mountain top experience.
One s physical appearance can be an indication of what is on the inside, especially
their face and body language. And one s countenance is a sure tell of what is deep
inside. Just as Mathena described Moses, Jesus, and
Stephan and their appearance as they were in the Lord s presence, you can see it
some believers today. I chose the word some very intentionally. I am not at all
convinced that the majority of those who name the name of Jesus have a clear
understanding of God s command and call to worship Him. When you ask many,
Why were you created? the answer usually has to do with an occupation, family,
good works, etc. In truth, there is not a clear understanding that they are created in
the image of their maker for the expressed intent to worship to their and His delight.
What I have learned:
Worship is not what I do, but who I am in the Lord.

Antisepsis techniques have been around since the mid 1800s, pioneered by Ignaz
Philip Semmelweis. Semmelweis determined puerperal infection was being
transmitted by the hands of students to women giving birth. Semmelweis
implemented a procedure that stated: any attending individual had to wash their
hands in a mixture of chlorinated lime prior to caring for a patient. This action alone
resulted in mortality rates dropping an estimated 94% within a year (ZoltГЎn, 2007).
In hospitals today, hand hygieneremains a staple in everyday practice, through the
primary use of alcohol based hand sanitizers. However, it is estimated that at any
point in time there are over 1.4 million cases of healthcare associated infections

on patients with HAI; a completely preventable expense. While in Canada,
expenses upwards of 40 to 52 million dollars are increasing each year in regards to
antibiotic resistant organisms (Ontario, 2016). In 2015 it was found that proper

32. The True Nature Of Polymers
Since the beginning Polymers have been with us; they form the very basis of life.
Until the middle of the 20thcentury we were unaware but slowly and gradually we
began to understand the true nature of polymers. This understanding came with the
development of plastics, which are materials truly mady by man that are the ultimate
tribute to man s creativity and ingenuity. The use of polymeric materials has
permeated in every facet of our lives. It is hard to visualize today s world with all its
luxury and comfort without man made polymeric materials.
Polymer materials in the form of solid plastics, п¬Ѓbers, elastomers, or foams. They
may be hard or soft or may be п¬Ѓlms, coatings, or adhesives. They can be made
porous or nonporous or can melt with heat or set with heat. The possibilities are
almost endless and their applications are fascinating. Although plastic materials in
general are thermally unstable, ablation of some organic polymers occurs at
extremely high temperatures. Consequently, selected plastics are used to shield
reentry vehicles from the severe heat generated by air friction and to protect rocket
motor parts from hot exhaust gases, based on the concept known as ablation plastics.
Also, there is a plastic armor that can stop a bullet, even shell fragments. In addition
to our food industrial sector , there are flexible plastics films that are used to

It is true, perhaps, that women are the subset of humanity whose rights had been the
longest stripped of them, and who had been abused the worst and for the longest time.
Even today, many people believe that women still do not have the equality that ought
to be afforded them. Since women first started making steps to approach that ideal
equality, they have used various means, including literature, to further their cause.

Another way that Prince establishes a sympathetic connection with her readers is by
drawing parallels between her and The Messiah. At one point, Prince states, I was
soon surrounded by strange men, who examined and handled me in the same
manner that a butcher would a calf or a lamb he was about to purchase (7). Here, she
compares herself to a lamb; which is an animal that Jesus was often compared, and is
even directly called the Lamb of God. In the story of the Christian faith, there is not
a single person more righteous than Jesus of Nazareth. Therefore, in creating a near
subconscious comparison between him and her, as well as putting herself in contrast
to the wicked, she establishes in the mind of the reader her position as the redeemed
in the eyes of the reader.
Like Prince, who creates negative imagery to establish her position as a righteous
figure, Emecheta also uses subconscious Christian rhetoric in order to stimulate a
positive association towards her in an audience composed mostly of Christians. She
does this in order to create an empathic connection between her and the reader. At
one point, Emecheta says, all the passengers stood one at a time, at the plane s door,
waved the final goodbye to their folks and then disappeared into the bowels of the

34. Character Analysis Of Sketchy
The journey of a lifetime starts with the turning of a page (Anders). This means
that as a book is read new adventures come along as well as relationships with
characters. The book Sketchy written by Olivia Samms has a very interesting and
unique plot. The main character, Beatrice Washington, has just come out of rehab
and is trying to stay drug free. She has also just moved to a new high school and is
trying to get settled there. Although a setback to her goal occurs when Willa
Prescott, a girl from the high school, is raped and left to die. Bea meets Willa in
her art class and soon finds out she had a rare and strange ability. Bea has the
power to draw what people are thinking. She had read Willa s mind and drawn the
rapist, although Willa refused to admit that she remembered anything from the
night she was raped. Bea has a new goal in mind; bring justice to Willa and the
families of the other girls who had been murdered/raped. Only if she can convince
the police to believe her, and have Willa agree to who the rapist was. When Charlie
reviewed the book Sketchy on goodreads.com, she was very enthusiastic and rated
the book very positively, focusing on characterdevelopment. Charlie is accurate in
her assessment of the book because Beatrice is a very relatable character but is not
the typical teenager which is portrayed in most books; she is more down to earth.
Charlie left a positive review of the book, making many comments favoring the
setup of character development. She makes a remark saying nothing is so over the
top to make it unbelievable and by doing so, I believe a wide audience will be able
to easily connect with the character . This helps support the idea that the build up of
character development can help increase the overall plot. It does this because it states
how Beatrice is a character portrayed as a rebellious teenager but it is not
extremely stereotypical and this helps the reader be more related to the story and
feel as if he/she could imagine themselves in this position. Charlie also notes that It
adds a dimension that elevates a good story to a great story . This is referring to the
way the characters and supporting characters help add another side to the story to

The Ka is a book for all tastes. This skillfully craft novel contains history, science,

entertaining but challenges your mind and imagination.
Mary Deal has created word images so vivid it is almost like watching a movie. She

An archaeological student has the mystical ability to communicate with the ancient

Thanksgiving dinner for my family has always been rather interesting. It starts off
with me sleeping in as late as I can before someone decides to ruin the morning and
wake me up. My family has a tradition that is followed every year for Thanksgiving.
After I get woken up by someone, I manage to stomp up the steps and stumble into
the shower without saying anything to a single person who is at my house, and by
the time I get up, there is usually about 15 20 people already. I enter the shower and
just let the hot water run onto myself, because it will usually put me into a better
mood. After spending about twenty minutes in the bathroom while showering and
brushing my teeth I walk myself back down the steps into my room to get my day

a lot of reasons why Confucianism was considered wrong. While towards the fall of
the Qin Dynasty, Confucian beliefs started to revamp and become more widely
accepted and thus they were blended together to some extent, this was not the case
beforehand, in fact it could be argued that blending the two together seemed almost
impossible. Confucianism stressed the ideas of the knowledge, humaneness, and filial
piety while legalism stressed power, rewards and punishments, and agricultural
wealth. Thus from a legalist standpoint, Confucianism was considered wrong because
it placed value on virtues instead of the laws, focusing on education to prosper growth
and moral character instead of simply obeying societal laws and valuing agricultural
wealth rather than humaneness Thus differences far exceed similarities between
these two ancient beliefs. However, both have made everlasting marks on Chinese
culture and tradition that to this day still exists.
Here is my suggestion for a more succinct and focused intro, deleting what you have
above:
The two Chinese philosophies of Legalism and Confucianism could not be more

How Buddhism Influenced Chinese Culture
As one of the four great ancient civilizations, China has a very long history and a
gorgeous culture. We can not ignore the fact that not only religions and cultures are
inseparable, but also can influence each other profoundly, Just like Buddhism and
Chinese culture. The Chinese traditional culture includes three systems of thought:
Confucianism, Taoism and Buddhism. The first two are Chinese culture, and
Buddhism is a foreign religion from India. For over 2,000 years, Buddhism has
interacted with all levels of Chinese culture such as literature, philosophy, morality,
arts, architecture and religions. As a result, Buddhism has successfully integrated into
the traditional Chinese culture and has become one of the three pillars. (Xing, 308)

To begin with, in different areas of public life, from government to business, religion
was been promoted. For example, in a recentspeech, the former country chairman
suggested that religion, including Buddhism, could help ease tensions between the

commercialism and production. Buddhist statues and other religious ornaments
became popular items for common consumption. Much more interesting, the contrary
trend appears withtemple monks are trying to connect Buddhism with business. For
instant, Shi Yongxin, the Abbot of Shaolin Temple (the origin of Chinese Buddhism)
is called a CEO because he is the first person who has made the connection between
traditional Chinese Buddhism and business. Abbot Shi runs many Shaolin Kung fu
schools inside China and abroad. There is no denying the fact that some famous
abbots just like Shi Yongxin and others, made people think a lot about the influence
of Buddhism on business. Moreover, there are three accepts to show it s

Machines are on a fast paced evolutionary track that renders them indispensable to
the progress of mankind. One such machine that has made great strides in the last
century is the automobile. Mobility has always been my area of fascination; the
working of a simple bicycle to the advanced Formula One car has always made me
curious.
During my high school studies I was a student of science and mathematics, both
these subjects helped me in unraveling the mysteries of nature by better
understanding principles that govern its working. I have participated in several
school and inter school science projects, one such project that left lasting
impression was that of a study on gear mechanism used in various tools, fascinated
by the same I was on self propelled path of discovery. I am driven by asking the
questions: why? and how? and this curiosity developed into a passion for machines
as a whole and led me to do an undergraduate program in Mechanical Engineering
from PVG S College of Engineering and Technology under the prestigious University
of Pune, a leading academic institution in the automotive hub of India, Pune.
The four year course exposed me to many fascinating subjects, my interest evolved as
I explored subjects like Manufacturing Process, Theory of Machines, Metallurgy,
Fluid Mechanics, Machine Design, Power Transmission System, IC engines etc. I
have tried to be in tune with the latest Mechanical technologies by attending courses
offered by automotive industry itself,
43. The Ironic Heira Hierarchy In Measure For Measure
There is a certain structure of control between the characters in Shakespeare s
Measure for Measure that continually shifts, and never is this more pronounced than
in the relationship/dialogues between Angelo and Isabella. This structure creates a
back and forth balance of power and not only affects the dynamics between both
characters, but more important, influences the development of the story. Control is
also, at least attempted, to be manifested externally by Angelo in his desires to
control with an iron fist unlike his predecessor, and Isabella in choosing to join a
nunnery and lead a chaste life away from the hedonism exhibited by the characters we
meet in Vienna. Control is also questionable when it seems internally lost by these

tells Angelo a truth about his position of power, which runs parallel to his own
aforementioned realization of it after having met Isabella, and how he immediately
thinks to manipulate and abuse it to his advantage. According to David K. Weiser s
article, The Ironic Heirarchy in Measure for Measure: Angelo is concerned only with
the abstract crime committed and the need for absolute decorum: There shall be

44. A Lesson Of Oppression By Nella Larsen
A Lesson in Oppression From the beginning of time and around the world, women
have been subjected to patriarchal oppression in various forms. From economic
hardships such as wage gaps or an inability to own property, to social mores such as
submission in marriage and sexual objectification, women are systematically treated
as second class citizens without a voice. African Americanwomen have faced these
gendered challenges in addition to racial discrimination in the forms of slavery, unfair
taxation, red lining, unequal access to education and derogatory media representation
to name a few. Passing by Nella Larsenportrays two African American women as
main characters who experience racial and gender oppression in various ways.
Webster s Dictionary defines oppression as: the state of being subject to unjust
treatment or control, prolonged cruel or unjust treatment or control; mental pressure
or distress. Larsen s story delves into social and feminist issues of oppression such
as loss of identity, oppressiveness of marriage, women s independence relating to
women s lack of independence, the importance of marriage in society, how raceand
class function in society, and how relationships are dictated by race, class, and gender.
Many of the issues explored in the story were likely experiences by the author
herself. Similar to the main character Irene, Nella Larsen was an African American
of mixed descent from Chicago, who lived in New York, and was married to a

Some of the practical applications of nanotechnology today are to fabricate
smaller faster computer chips for more efficient computers, mobile phones, or
navigation systems. Nanotechnology also brought about the quantum dot laser,
which enables faster communication. Nanotechnology could be utilized by today s
society in countless ways and will revolutionize our lives. The advances in
medicine would be mind boggling. Tiny robots could detect diseases when they ve
just barely begun to form, repair injuries more completely than ever before, and
even body parts with new ones. Microscopic cameras and other recording devices
would change the intelligence and security industry by enabling them to watch
and monitor like never before. We would have the luxury of carrying around huge
amounts of information; thousands of music albums and movies on tiny devices
that fit in our pocket. Nanotechnology will totally change our lives. We ll expect
much more from the products we buy expect, for example, a wrench we buy at the
hardware store will be 100 times as strong as steel. Our concept of size will change
drastically; the devices we use today will seem large and clunky. With
nanotechnology, we ll expect the devices we use every day to be tiny, light, and
very efficient. If scientists are able to actually make molecular sized machines, we
would no longer have resource problems of any kind. Oil, food, wood, and any other
raw materials could be broken down
46. Observation Of Court Observation
Maricopa County Superior Court Observation
Social Work is a complex and very diverse field with many options to work in.
Many social workers find themselves going to court to advocate for their clients.
Others may consider working with the court directly. As an observer of a court it is
important to notice the individuals involved, the accessibility of the court, the parties
involved, and personal reflections that one perceives.
Description
Court
I attended the Maricopa County Superior Court located at 222 E Javelina Ave,
Mesa, AZ 85210. I went on Wednesday December 6, 2017 from 1pm to 5pm. I
attended both the criminal court in room 202 and family court in room 301. In the
criminal court, I observed 9 different cases and in the family court only 1 case. In
the criminal courtroom, the Judge was Judge Barth and the state prosecutor was
James Blair for all the cases. The public defenders (PD) were different for most all
the cases except some cases had the same PD in which none of them had more that
2 offenders assigned to them at that day. The PD included, Resario Spaccaferro,
Josephine Hallum, Kurt Harris, Asario Backafera, Robert Duffy, and Brian Gardner.
In the family court only the petitioner (the mom) had an attorney Charles Brown,
and the respondent (the dad) represented himself. All attorneys and PD were
dressed in suits and the judges of course were in their black robes. The state
prosecutor was also in a suit but had khaki pants and a dark navy blazer.
Ease of Access
Walking up I noticed there was a giant white tubing in the middle of the parking lot
that was draped over the wall and the court had orange cones blocking the handicap
ramp. Coming out this obstacle was no longer there. However, there is only one
ramp and could have been a huge issue for someone who needed ADA access to the
courtroom. It looked as if it was a fire hose but no water or fire truck was in sight.
Additionally, there is a bus stop behind the court house in front of the juvenile court
house. This makes it very easy for someone to access the courthouse through public
transportation. The surrounding neighborhood is primarily businesses. The old
department of Motor Vehicle is still there along with Community Bridges

Describe the biological mechanisms through which global warming can influence the
Sea Otter (Enhydra lutris).
In today s society, global warming is a serious issue and more attention needs to be
drawn to the impacts of this issue and how we can help lessen the intensity of these
impacts, especially on organisms. These changes in global temperatures have had a
great effect on the biological mechanisms through which organisms are distributed in
their habitats and the redistribution of species can cause a change in species
interactions and result in endangerment or extinction (Hughes, 2000). This essay
will be looking at how global warming has influenced biological mechanisms of the
sea otters (Enhyrdra lutris), which affects their population and distribution of this
endangered species (IUCN Red List, 2016). The sea otters are currently considered
endangered according to the IUCN Red list due to pathogenic infections,
physiological stress caused by oil spills and predation by new species.

These biological mechanisms include the changing pathogenic distribution of Vibrio
parahaemolyticus and Toxoplasma gondii, causing more sea otters to be infected
since global warming has caused an increase of water temperature. Sea otters are
extremely vulnerable to oil spills as oil disrupts the heat insulating and buoyancy
properties of its fur, forcing sea otters to increase their metabolism which requires
more food sources. This, of course, decreases the population of this species. Due to
the changing interactions between this species and killer whales, sea otters are
being predated by killer whales as an alternative food source. The killer whales usual
prey items, which are seals and sea lions are becoming more unavailable due to the
decreasing availability of sea

Educators need to realize that they can t just tailor their lesson plans to their
learning style(s) of teaching, but they can t focus on one child s learning style
either. This is where the educational assistants will be helpful, by observing the
student s behaviour to help analyze what the student s learning style(s) is. Then
they can pass along the information on the educator to help assess both activity and

Debates and speeches are an enormous part of our lives as communicators, and
having the skills to properly address an audience is a key factor in becoming an

speaker s objective is to get you to understand why you should be on their side.
Throughout the speech, they have to prove to their audience that they are ethical,

53. The Role Of Internal Audit Departments On The Business...
T auditors frequently find themselves educating the business community on how their
work adds value to an organization. Internal audit departments commonly have an IT
audit component which is deployed with a clear perspective on its role in an
organization. However, in our experience as IT auditors, the wider business
community needs to understand the IT audit function in order to realize the
maximum benefit. In this context, we are publishing this brief overview of the
specific benefits and added value provided by an IT audit.
To be specific, IT audits may cover a wide range of IT processing and communication
infrastructure such as client server systems and networks, operating systems, security
systems, software applications, web services, databases, telecom infrastructure,
change management procedures and disaster recovery planning.
The sequence of a standard audit starts with identifying risks, then assessing the
design of controls and finally testing the effectiveness of the controls. Skillful
auditors can add value in each phase of the audit.
Companies generally maintain an IT audit function to provide assurance on
technology controls and to ensure regulatory compliance with federal or industry
specific requirements. As investments in technology grow, IT auditingcan provide
assurance that risks are controlled and that huge losses are not likely. An organization
may also determine that a high risk of outage, security threat or vulnerability exists.
