This document discusses two topics: 1. The superiority of man over other animals. It notes that while humans share many physical structures and diseases with animals, humans can digest a wider variety of foods and have better eyesight. Most importantly, humans can think, learn, use language, and transmit ideas while animals rely on instincts. 2. The role of heredity and environment in shaping a person. It describes Jose Rizal's intelligent and well-educated family background that provided him intellectual capacity. The injustices against Filipinos during his time also gave him the opportunity to develop and challenge abuses, allowing him to become a hero.

Human physical structure and
processes are similar to those
of other animals and we share
many of their diseases.

from a few inches to
many miles which
animals lack.

think, to learn, to use a
language and to transmit

on instincts.

Environment are
the factors that
make man.

6. Heredity
His own father was a well-read
man, educated in the local
schools and a very intelligent
industrious farmer.
His mother was a very well-
educated woman who could
write poetry and read the best
literature of her time.
 His great grandfather on his
father’s side was well-
educated political refugee
from China.
 On his mother’s side, he
had some ancestors who
represented the Philippines
in Spanish Cortes.

7. Environment The exploitation of the Filipinos
and his own family and friends by the
religious orders, the abuses of the
Spanish officials, and the injustices
committed against the Filipinos gave
Rizal the opportunity to develop and
use his talents to challenge these
abuses. In other words, Rizal had the
intellectual capacity, and the
opportunity offered by the evil
conditions of his time to become
great.
It is the belief of many
historian that Rizal would
never have been a hero
were it not because of the
conditions that existed
during his time.
