-----------Personal Statement----------
In the different roles I have worked in, within retail for 10 years I’ve had to adapt, use my strengths
and work on my weaknesses.
My strengths are that I like to plan and structure my workload whether it’s for daily, weekly or
monthly tasks. Another one of my strengths is that I give honest and constructive feedback to push
my team’s performance. I am very innovative and will always look for more efficient ways of working.
I use my own learning to develop the team to achieve KPI’s. In the past I’ve had to train my team
while learning on the job, this was challenging but allowed me to become a stronger leader. I am a
very quick learner and like to challenge myself.
My weaknesses are that I take negative feedback personally but always learn from it. I like to have
structure but working life cannot always be like that and I have to adapt. My latest experience of that
would be moving from a very processed and controlled role as Store Lead at Sainsbury’s to a Team
Leader in NettoUK where it was fast paced and the workload was more variable.
After 7 successful months I was put forward to progress in NettoUK from team leader to deputy
manager, following a successful interview in which I had to answer 30 minutes of questions about my
past working history, about myself and my future. I then had to present a 10 minute presentation on
a chosen subject. Feedback followed that I was very confident, I knew what I was talking about and I
was the strongest candidate. I am looking to continue my progress and use my experiences to achieve
the next step up the managerial ladder.
I always work to a professional manner and feel that I have a number of transferable skills that would
make me an asset to any business or company. I am quick to learn and eager to take every
opportunity I am presented with as I have a strong desire to succeed.
----------Work Experience---------
2015-made redundant August 2016 NettoUK (Full-time)
Using my previous experience in the roles below I decided to take up the challenge at NettoUK Hedon
store which opened February 2016. We opened with a team recruited with very little retail
experience. I helped train and mould the team to be competent for store opening and we exceeded
all existing sales records while delivering great service and availability to our customers. After a few
months of working for NettoUK, I developed and enhanced my skills which led to me been put
forward to become a deputy manager, after a successful interview I became a deputy manager but
the announcement was then made that NettoUK venture with Sainsbury’s had come to end.
2008-2015 Sainsbury’s (Full-time)
As a Store Lead at Sainsbury’s I had to
• Complete a safe and legal diary by doing a number of tasks and reports
• Deal with customer queries effectively while always putting the customer first
• Day to day running of the store in absence of the store manager/manageress
• Completing HR audits to ensure colleagues training is up to date and colleague performance
reviews to manage performance and give constructive feedback for development
• Store safety inspections to create a safe working environment for our customers to shop in
and our colleagues to work in
• Receiving stock and direct deliveries
• Reporting and escalating maintenance issues
• Reviewing KPI’s and driving performance to achieve under-achievements
• Managing schedules to achieve labour budgets
While working for Sainsbury’s I worked in all their Hull convenience stores, a newly built £17million
supermarket called Sunderland North and Hessle Supermarket. At Sunderland North I worked on the
commercial department which my job role was control store costs, stock control and keeping the
store legal by doing daily/weekly/monthly checks and tasks. This made me more commercially aware
and I have used these skills acquired ever since.
2006-2008 Sainsbury’s (Part-time)
I worked as a customer service assistant. In this role I would prep the shop for the morning by facing
up, date rotation of stock and replenishing shelves as well as serving customers. This gave me the
front line to meeting all of the customers needs. As a result of my interactions with different types of
customers I developed my communication skills. In 2008 I was put forward by senior management to
complete the team leader scheme. I subsequently passed this scheme and was offered a full-time
position in the role.

Whilst studying at Hull College I worked with Trident (Printing Company) to design some packaging for
a new beauty care product. This showed me how a printing company worked and the legalities that
go with producing a package design for the public.
I was also given the chance to visit the Hull Daily Mail offices to research how to create a back page of
