Skills
Communication and Interpersonal Skills
I have developed my verbal communication skills at college where I presented a Radio show
called YCR. It was important that my listeners could hear me clearly and I communicated directly
to them when they made song requests via telephone.
Strong written communication skills are also important and I demonstrated these skills by writing
business reports at university and by writing my dissertation, which covered a wide range of topics.
I focus on using a writing style that is concise and engaging to keep the reader interested.
My interpersonal skills have developed through working in retail as a customer assistant, from
building relationships to communicating with customers and colleagues professionally to form a
trust.
Team Player
Teamwork within my part time job entailed working with management and also exposed me to a
leadership role, to make sure that the work environment is motivated and satisfied. An example of
my team working abilities is the time I was set a task of creating ideas in a team of four on how to
best display special event products. I had to complete this task within a week so I could present
the ideas to the store manager and the food section manager. This required communication from
the group and confidence to present our ideas to the managers.
Within university I have worked within a team to create and present ideas to colleagues, designing
a PowerPoint presentation to give a clear understanding of the information I was delivering.
Organisation and Administration Skills
Strong ability to multitask by prioritising my workload by importance and reacting to pressure by
adapting plans as new work comes in. I gathered data from a range of sources during my
dissertation whilst balancing my other studies and part time job, resulting in a 2:1 grade.
Being punctual is another extremely important organisational skill that I posses, an example of that
is that I had many deadlines to deal with and I managed to deliver my assignments on time or in
most cases early.
IT Skills
I am very competent with Microsoft software including Word, PowerPoint and Excel. I am also able
to use other software such as Word Press, Photoshop and Mailchimp. I have gained these skills
through gaining my GCSE in ICT and also in producing documents, presentations, websites and
spreadsheets for my coursework at university.
Work History
Business: WilliamHill – (June 2016 - Present)
Role: Betting Operator/ Duty Manager
Working within WilliamHill I gained a lot of experience working in a fast paced environment and
dealing with demanding customers. As duty manager it was my responsibility to manage and
assist the cashier on duty. It was also my responsibility to cash up and lock up the store most
evenings, and open the store most mornings.
 Learned to use the Williamhill computer system.
 Key Holder
 Learned valuable management skills
Business: The Acton Inn – (June 2015 – January 2016)
Role: Front of House
The skills I have gained from working for the Acton are mostly sales techniques and dealing with
different kinds of people.
 Learned how to sell specialised ale to customers.
 Worked under pressure.
 Communication skills were improved.
Business: Marks and Spencer’s – (November 2012 – December 2013/ June 2014 – July 2014)
Role: Customer Assistant
The skills I have gained from working in M&S range from people skills to operating technology.
 Communicated with a wide range of people including customers and colleagues.
 Learned how to work under pressure and how to complete tasks on time.
 Used numerous systems: touch screen tills, intranet to order products for customers, check
pay slips and schedules for the working week.
Interests and Achievements
 I enjoy fund raising for charities such as Children in Need. I have raised a significant
amount of money for charities by taking part in charity events in both college and in my own
time. One of my finest achievements was raising £438 for red nose day by running a
guessing game for college students to take part in as they walked past.
 I have also taken part in a beach-cleaning project with Marks and Spencer, which involved
me picking up litter for charity in Colwyn Bay.
