2. Harlem Renaissance Essay
HARLEM RENAISSANCE
Throughout the history of African Americans, there have been important historical figures as well as
times. Revered and inspirational leaders and eras like, Martin Luther King and the Civil Rights
Movement, Nat Turner and the slave revolt, or Huey Newton and the Black Panther Party. One such
period that will always remain a significant part of black art and culture is the Harlem Renaissance. It
changed the meaning of art and poetry, as it was known then. Furthermore, the Harlem Renaissance
forever left a mark on the evolution of the black culture.
The Harlem Renaissance found its birth in the early 1920 s, in Harlem, New York. The period has
been thought of as one of African Americans greatest times in writing. ... Show more content on

Weldon s collection also included a young talented poet named Langston Hughes. Hughes had a love
for music, mainly the blues, which became a bridge between African American Literature and Folk
music.
Zora Neale Hurston, an anthropologist originally born in Florida, wrote the literary magazine Fire!
Although it lasted only one issue because of financial difficulties, Hughes, publisher Wallace
Thurman, and a number of other influential black artists had shared in making one of most recognized
Harlem Renaissance materials. Hurston later went on to publish Their Eyes were Watching God, in
1937, still keeping with the themes of strong black characters.
Music was another art form found in the Harlem Renaissance. It became the background, inspiration,
and the structure for the Harlem Renaissance literature. A style of music known as jazz represented the
new, urban, unpredictable lifestyle.
One of the greatest jazz singers of this time was Bessie Smith. She was a southerner and her
recordings were rare for black performers during her time. Duke Ellington, whose legendary band
played at the Cotton Club, personifies jazz. Charlie Parker and Billie Holiday would also record jazz
music form the 1930 s until the 1950 s.
Langston Hughes was one of the few poets that would combine both blues and jazz to create an
original art form. Claude McKay used the jazz atmosphere in his novel Home to Harlem. In this novel,

3. Government Polls
National polls are an important tool used by political parties and news outlets to gauge how the public
feels about current issues or political candidates. Only one month into his presidency, President
Donald Trump is facing a lot of heat from the public, and that is very evident in the polls. Polls can be
used for both good and evil. Some are used to promote agendas or favor towards certain politicians or
policy, while others can be used to simply see where the public stands on current issues.
Currently, according to Gallup, polls are showing that President Donald Trump s first month approval
ratings are below average first month ratings by 21 points (Gallup). While the average approval
number by the end of February is 61%, Trump s numbers are at 40%. The last time approval ratings
were this low within a president s first month was in 1993, when Bill Clinton stepped into office.

One thing that I found odd while researching for this paper is the variety of poll results across a small
selection of sources. For instance, CNN posted a poll update in late January, stating that our President
s job approval ratings were at an all time low at 36%. Underneath the large heading and introductory
statement, they mentioned that the information was gathered by one national poll that was provided by
one university. Should the findings of one poll, given by one university, be published as if they
represent all of the American population s views? Personally, I do not feel the need to pay attention to
polls when it comes to national politics. I am generally distrusting of the agendas that many news
outlets support when it comes to national polls, even though I still believe that polls aren t entirely
unnecessary. I fully support the idea of giving the public a way to compare views and express personal

6. Billy Bully
In the play The play of Kes by Barry Hines, the main character, Billy, is persistently bullied. He is
belittled, discouraged and threatened. This has hurt him mentally and physically to the point of
depression. The people who primarily bully him are Jud, his half brother, and Mr. Gryce the principal.
Jud, who is Billy s older half brother, taunts and terrorizes him daily. Jud enjoys sending threats
towards Billy such as I ll murder you when I get home. which implies that Billy will get hurt later on
(physical abuse). Also, this will traumatize Billy and make him live for the rest of the day in fear,
anxiety and distress for what might happen to him. The word murder increases the intensity of what
Jud had said and shows that he resorts to physically abusing his brother. ... Show more content on

Gryce, the school principal. Mr. Gryce has a special disliking toward Billy and hurts him both
mentally and physically; for daydreaming, he shouts at Billy you ll be tired when I m finished with

point that Gryce will abuse Billy later on, overwhelming him with trauma and fear. In that time and
age, corporal punishment was considered ordinary. However, corporal punishment is only hitting the
leg, not belittling and verbally abusing children. For the second quote, some of the audience might
justify Gryce s actions as corporal punishment. The play wright has done this to show that even
teachers can be using the law for their evil actions. The word finished highlights the fact that Gryce
will continue to abuse him and that he isn t going to let him off so easily. Gryce might be using
corporal punishment as a pass to bully and punish students he despises. In contrast to the other

7. Gislebertus The Last Judgement Analysis
The Last Judgement was a sculpture founded in the Cathedral of St. Lazarus in Autun, France. The
sculpture was built around 1130 46, by Gislebertus who was a French sculptor. The material used in
this sculpture was stone. (Khan academy)
The tympanum shows Romanesque style and is divided into three horizontal sections. Starting from
the top section there are carved angels with trumpets. They all have halos and appear to be sitting on
thrones. In the middle section the figures seem to be taller than the rest. Some of the figures have
halos and some don t, and the rest were formed similar to a monster stature. On the right side of the
sculpture shows serpents wrapped around the demonish figures and have little children behind them.
The last section of the statue is full of figures, more so than the other sections. It is a long sequence of
people in no particular order; but starting from the left to right we can see the figures posture become
more deformed. Lastly, the central figure is four times bigger than the rest and looks like it can be
Christ himself sitting on a throne with angels encompassing him and upholding him in the air. The
sculpture as a whole shows simplism not humanism, because the figures are not human like. ... Show

Similarities and differences are what make things so interesting. Would you be happy if everyone was
the same. Every looked the same, and liked the same things and hated the same things. No you wouldn
t because you would want to be you and no one can tell you what you want to be or what you don t
want to be. Even the buildings you make would be the same from a normal house to a normal office
building. The Panama Canal was one of the most useful canals ever built and they were made to for
one reason and that was to transport goods. This was somethings everyone needed to solve at that
time(1900s). The great Moai statues of Easter Island are also great structures and are really
tremendous to the eye. These buildings and canals were made to one purpose they had to do
somethings and that something was to make things easier for the people. Some similarities they had
were that they both took a long time and sacrifice to build. A difference they had was that they were
built for different purposes and they had their own different struggles.
Predominantly, The Panama Canal was one of the greatest structures built by mankind. The Moai as
well were something to be fascinated by because they were beautiful creations made by us. The one
thing they both have in common was that they both took a long time to build. The Moai took
approximately about 10 15 years to build and that was with the help of mana which was part of the

9. Edgar Allan Poe Motivation
Edgar Allen Poe wrote stories that induce fear in the reader s mind. he gave the main characters little
description of appearance and name along with deep insight to the inner thought processes of the
characters to give a strong sense of overwhelming fear. He had many different conflicts that were
often driven by a form of anger and hatred and often included some lesson that leads you away from
becoming like the killers and psychopaths. While the characterization of the protagonist and the
motivation for the conflict are very similar in Poe s stories The Cask of Amontillado , The Black Cat ,
and The Tell Tale Heart the theme of the stories are distinctly different changing with each story.

They all seemed to come from a common place of anger and resentment that you can find in the inner
workings of many people s minds, making you feel as though it is a human trait and anyone could be
capable of theses ations. For example, in The Cask of Amontillado Montresor had stated The thousand
injuries of Fortunato i had borne as i best could, but when he ventured upon insult, i vowed revenge
(Poe 31) showing he had hated Fortunato from the beginning but what he had done to insult the
protagonist had pushed him over the edge, and this anger was what had caused the conflict. In The
Tell Tale heart the Protagonist had said He had the eye of a vulture a pale blue eye, with a film over it
and ... for it was not the old man who vexed me, but his evil eye (Poe 7) proving that the protagonist
of this story was feeling hatred towards the eye. That was why he had killed the old man, to get rid of
the eye that had plagued his thoughts. This had continued in The Black Cat when this un named
protagonist had first said But this feeling had soon gave place to irritation. and then came, as if to my
final and irrevocable overthrow, the spirit of PERVERSENESS (Poe 18) and also when he had said
The moodiness of my usual temper increased to hatred of all things and all of mankind... (Poe 24).

10. Skeptecism of History and Science
A skeptic is defined in two different ways, a skeptic could be considered as a person who question the
validity and raise doubts to all accepted opinions or accepted conclusion; a skeptic could also be a
philosopher who denies the possibility of knowledge, or even rational belief, in some sphere. When
knowledge is primarily presented by an abundance of assumption is brought up. Generally, a skeptic
often is required to proceed a thorough evaluation of the assumption or hypothesis presented in order
to provide factual clarity. What may seem correct has the potential to be completely faulty when
another evidence clashes with the primary idea. The two areas of knowledge that requires to an
individual to thoroughly evaluate, question their claim, ask for clarity, consistency in logic and
adequacy of evidence is history and science. When analyzing a historical event, ideally information is
required to be traced back in both quantitative and qualitative variables. History could be easily
manipulated, misinterpret and biased. For a particular historical event, many claims could be laid out
with certain amount of evidence. For example, many historians claim that the Holocaust did not
happen and the conspiracy theory that America did not plan on the moon. The reality that anyone is
able to propose various theories that contradicts what may seem as facts to others proves that there are
multiple perspective that needs critical analysis. Historians evaluates the evidence proposed, they

14. The Child Rearing, Education And Other Fields
Burrhus Frederic Skinner was born in 1904 Pennsylvania. After graduating Hamilton College, he
wanted to become an author, but without any avail. Pavlov and Watson s work encouraged him to
attend Harvard graduate school where he studied behavior. He made changes in the rate of behavior a
standard measure of learning: made the individual, rather that the group, the object of experimental
study; and suggested ways that a natural science of behavior could be applied to medicine, work, child
rearing, education and other fields (Learning and Behavior pg#136 137). Skinner worked with rats by
placing them in boxes and providing them with different reinforcements. He would teach them a
different behavior by providing obstacles in order to shape those behaviors. Positive reinforcement
strengthens a behavior by providing a consequence an individual finds rewarding
(simplypsychology.org). The reinforcement was the food The rats quickly learned to go straight to the
lever after a few times of being put in the box. The consequence of receiving food if they pressed the
lever ensured that they would repeat the action again and again (simplypsychology.org). When I
became a mother, I always knew that by rewarding my children with praises or food it would make
them feel special. But I had no idea on how it would shape their behavior. My first child, Anna (who is
now 16 years old) was always good. I could go to the store with her, give her a toy to play with at the

15. Essay on The Connection Between Christianity and Homophobia
We have all at some point or another heard someone say that God made Adam and Eve, not Adam and
Steve. This saying is an excellent example of how a large number of Christian fundamentalist feel
about the homosexual community. Studies have shown that there are more Christian homophobes than
there is homophobia in any other group or religion in the United States (Wolff, J. R., Himes, H. L.,
Kwon, E., Bollinger, R. A., 2012). Homophobia is the irrational fear of, aversion to, or discrimination
against homosexuality or homosexuals. In Christianity, homophobia represents misunderstanding and
fear of the unknown.
It is more difficult to understand something that one has not been exposed to or has not experienced.
An example would be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

still does. (Rader, 2012).
Many homophobes have used Christianity as an excuse for hate crimes against homosexuals. They
believe that homosexuality is a terrible sin and publicly announce it as so. An example would be the
recent incident with Phil Robertson of Duck Dynasty being taken off of A E for homophobic
statements like Start with homosexual behavior and just morph out from there. Beastiality, sleeping

religious beliefs. Other employees, such as Peter Johnson Jr., believe that it did not quote the bible at
all and there needs to be lines drawn between expressing religious beliefs and spewing hate (Maza,

16. Restorative Justice And The Justice Centres
Restorative Justice(RJ) is a process in by which it takes an alternative form from the traditional CJS
and aims to prompt resolution with offender, victims and the wider community in a safe setting. RJ
looks at crime in terms of violation against the community and individual rather than a violation
against the law (Gabbay, 2005). As with the traditional CJS, the voices of the victims and offenders
are very minimal and not adequately addressed to a large extent; restorative justice centres its main
attention on these parties. Since the adoption of RJ practices, there have been different types of RJ
created by various different countries that have also resorted to this practice, such as Family Group
Conferencing (NZ and Australia) and Sentencing Circles (Canada) and victim offender mediation.
Since, one of the main stakeholders of these conferences are victims, it is vital that their needs and
wants are being heard and met and victim satisfaction is also one of the key restorative values in these
conferences, thus it is important know whether their needs are being adequately met. This essay will
critically discuss the principle of restorative justice, how restorative justice effectively addresses the
concerns of victims using examples illustrated from Canada and New Zealand and the limitations of
RJ in certain crime cases in addressing victim concerns. . The concerns will be based on the different

17. Calvinism And Religion Summary
Abraham Kuyper goes on to continue making his point about how Calvinism is a life system through
his second lecture titled Calvinism and Religion. Even the title alone strongly makes this point in the
way that it implies that Calvinism and religion are not synonymous. It almost feels like Kuyper is
pushing this chapter s main idea that Calvinism holds a dominant and impressive position in the
domain of religion by using dramatic language that insinuates the bragging that Calvinism is better
than everything else. For example, on page 42, Kuyper says, ...look at the giant spirit of Calvin, who,
in the sixteenth century, with one master stroke, placed before the gaze of the astonished word an
entire religious edifice, erected in the purest Scriptural style. It is clear that Kuyper is trying very hard
to defend Calvinism against the vile enemies of Rationalism, Materialism, mysticism, and modernism.
However, I do like the sentence after the prior criticized quote, which gracefully justifies the
vulnerabilities of Calvinism by saying, So rapidly was the whole building completed that most of the
spectators forgot to pay attention to the wonderful structure of its foundations. Kuyper then sets off to
outline these structures of Calvinism s religious foundations with three answers to the question of
what was the secret to Calvinism s religious energy. The first of his three answers involves exploring
the concept of Religion as such, using an abundance of italicizing. This

19. Similarities Between Animal Farm And Joseph Stalin
The story of Animal Farm is not just one of simple animals in a farm. Rather the tale uses animals to
symbolize the individual, classes, and event that took part in the Russian Revolution. George Orwell,
in Animal Farm, used Napoleon as an allegory for Joseph Stalin. He illustrates the villainy as
Napoleon starves, kills, and brainwashes his animals. Orwell compares Napoleon and Stalin acts
during and after the Russian Revolution. In Animal Farm the pigs represent the most significant group
of the Russian Revolution . In Orwell s novel, he demonstrates the pigs acts to represent what Stalin
did during the Russian revolution. Napoleon s actions mirror the way Stalin mistreated, starved, and
sent his people to gulags. In Animal Farm Napoleon knew how to persuade the animals to think of him
as a good leader and that his actions were for the better of the good. Napoleon s desires were similar to
Stalin s, because both wanted communism. Napoleon at first represents revolutionary ideas, but once

Financial results and conditions vary among companies for a number of reasons. One reason for the
variation can be traced to the characteristics of the industries in which companies operate. For
example, some industries require large investments in property, plant, and equipment (PP E), while
others require very little. In some industries, the competitive productpricing structure permits
companies to earn significant profits per sales dollar, while in other industries the product pricing
structure imposes a much lower profit margin. In most low margin industries, however, companies

21. Nietzsche s Conception Of The Apollonian And The Dionysian
Many philosophical minds assume that during his time Friedrich Nietzsche didn t adapt along the line
of any traditional conception of the philosopher. Furthermore, one can say that Nietzsche is the
interpretation of the wise man after all he is serene, temperate and Apollonian. Furthermore, Nietzsche
used his beloved Apollo along with Dionysius in his philosophies of response to tragedy even though
there is tension between the two opposing forces known to him as the Apollonian and the Dionysian.
In the first place we must familiarize ourselves with the Greek god Apollo known to be the god of
light and reason. Comparatively, this leads Nietzsche to identify the Apollonian way of life
humanitarian power represented by means of restraint ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

denial of instincts and that by means of trying to explain one s actions by motivations we cover a false

This night calls to me for something is amiss in the air. I felt the subtle shift upon my rising and now I
ready myself to seek it out. Going to my weapons room selecting what I will need for the night, the
wariness in me grows. It feels as if there is something in the night seeking... but for what or for
whom...this is unclear. Adorning my weapons I make my way to the entrance, scanning the area as I
go. Getting ready to emerge into the night I suddenly feel it... the evil whispering on the wind, the
sudden sense of wrongness all around. Once outside, off in the distance, the trees begin to part and the

Once assured they are fine, I sit and plunge my hand into the ground finding good soil to pack my

23. Essay On Hawaii Volcanoes
Hawaii: Geology s Volcanic Wonder of the World It is well know that Hawaii is very volcanically
active and is home to the world s most active volcanoes. Hawaii is unique because the islands are
caused by a hot spot in the middle of the Pacific Plate, one of the largest crustal plates on earth. There
are only a few hot spots on earth and they occur in an area where the plate is thin and weak creating
volcanism, where molten magma ruptures the earth s crust. For Hawaii, the hot spot is under the sea
floor, it creates under sea volcanoes. Over millions of years these volcanoes build up to sea level and
become islands. As for Hawaii, the Pacific Plate has moved northwest across this hot spot creating
what we know today as the Hawaiian Islands in the South Pacific Ocean. In all, ... Show more content

Erupting steadily since March 2008, the summit crater, Halemaumau continues to send plumes of
sulfur dioxide and steam clouds. In the east rift zone of Kilauea is Pu u O o, a volcanic vent that is
considered active. You can safely access this area by helicopter because it is too far from roads to
drive however if you don t mind the mile walk, you can hike in on a marked pathway to view the lava

Mauna Loa s last eruption was March 24 through April 15, 1984, and has been heavily monitored
since 1912 because of its immediate threat to population centers. Hawaii Volcanoes National Park
encompasses the summit of Mauna Loa and the southeast flank of the volcano and further south to

Hawaii s volcanoes are shield volcanoes and considered to have effusive eruptions, a type of eruption
where lava steadily flows from the volcano onto the earth s surface and the viscosity of the lava,
amount and time of the eruption and the grade of the immediate area usually dictates the shape of the

It is very easy to fall in love with the hero. The nobleman who commits no wrong, saves the day, and
usually looks good doing it. But the best characters aren t thoroughly perfect and selfless like we
would like them to be, because in the end, that s not real life. The best, most relatable characters are
those in which we can associate, abhor, and admire all at the same time. Sophocles, William
Shakespeare, and Arthur Miller were able to capture this character in the tragic hero. A character who,
despite their human nature, ends up destroying themselves because of their own faults. Though these
three playwrights display the tragic model in different ways, they all come back to point out the flaws
in human nature through five stages; nobility, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As radium continued to increase in popularity, more uses for the material emerged. The U.S. Radium
Corporation began making big money on having their workers paint watch dials with radium
luminescent paint known as Undark. Not only were these watches practical for everyday life, they
were also helpful with the war effort and provided young women with jobs to help support their
families with. The factories were clean and well lit, and the girls were paid 8 cents a dial and could
earn as much as $24 a day. However as these girls were painting their 300 dials a day, people didn t
seem to notice that the average painter consumed approximately 4,000 micrograms of radium in six
months , as they pointed the tips of their brushes on their lips to get a better point (Moss). The
hamartia never truly became apparent to anyone until girls such as Amelia Maggia started developing
the symptoms of radiation poisoning. For most girls it started with tooth decay, so The dentist would
remove the rotten teeth, already practically falling out of the girls mouths, but the gums wouldn t heal.
Instead, agonising ulcers sprouted in the holes left behind. Very often their jawbones crumbled to the
touch (Fergusson). However, instead of looking for answers in these never before seen medical
ailments, Amelia Maggia s death was reported as syphilis. This left radium and the U.S. Radium
Corporation unblemished, but instead brought humiliation to the families of the innocent girls like
Amelia. As we see the radiation begin to poison more and more unknowing citizens, it becomes clear
that it is those side effects that act as the equivalent of the hamartia in the tragic model, as it takes
control of the entire element just as ambition took full control of Macbeth without him realizing

25. The Origins Of Creation Myths
Myth is often falsely misunderstood as fake; however, when using myth in a religious studies
atmosphere, it takes on a new meaning. Myths are stories created by a group of people which believe
the stories are true. These stories are understood to be narratives concerning sacred reality and its
relationship to humanity (Cunningham and Kelsay 59). There are many types of myths which groups
of people create; for example, how humans, religious figures, and Earth came to be. Many myths
focus on creation of someone or something because humans have many questions about how things on
Earth originated. We did not know a lot about origination at first when the human population
developed because we were not around for Earth s creation. Creation myth ... Show more content on

Just a single person creating and believing in these stories is not enough to make them a myth. A myth
must be believed in as one hundred percent true by many people. This group of people use this myth
to explain the relationship between themselves and the sacred. For example, God said, Let us make
humankind in our image, according to our likeness (Genesis 1: 26). This shows how people relate
themselves to God and it puts things into perspective. God created humankind to be capable of things
as great as the things he does, within limitation of course. It demonstrates a sense of power and good
intentions which shape the reality of those who believe in the myth. It is worth noting that a myth,
rather than being a harmless story, is a powerful vehicle for life and action (Cunningham and Kelsay
61). Myths help these groups of people live their lives a certain way and take certain actions. For
example, Genesis helps people who believe its story act with great intentions and concern for all living
things because this is what God wanted for humankind. He wanted people to care about other living
things and make good choices in life as a sign of gratitude for their very existence and capability to
make these

Music is something that is needed in everyday life. It fuels creativity, brings people together, and it
even helps people learn. In Bruce Springsteen s song, Nebraska , it tells the story of Charles
Starkweather, the most notorious killer in Nebraska. Charles Starkweather symbolizes fear for many
people, and will forever haunt not only Nebraska, but the whole world. Lincoln Nebraska seemed like
the perfect place to live. It was a quiet town where everybody seemed to know each other, and nobody
needed to lock their doors at night. It wasn t until December 1, under the cover of darkness, that
everything seemed to change. On that night Charles Starkweather returned to a Lincoln gas station,
robbed the attendant for $100.00, and then led him out a few miles where he proceeded to shoot him
dead. (Spencer). This robbery and murder was just the start of the gruesome spree that had yet to
occur. Almost two months after the killing, with no lead for the case, Starkweather struck again. Caril

as an educated author. To put this short story into perspective, we can look at America today. Both
today and back then, there wasn t much social mobility. In America there is and always have been
believed that with hard work, anyone can make it. In the documentary, Money, Power and the
American Dream, we get a clear image of how strong the American Dream still exists in the
Americans. The promise of how everyone can become everything and achieve their goals with hard
work. It is in the documentary clear, how that is not true. The social immobility is at its highest, and
the poor are getting less and less, whereas the rich are getting richer and richer.

The Battle of Bull Run was the first battle fought during the Civil War. It was a bloody battle and
showed both sides that this war would not be won quickly. There were a few factors that swayed the
battle in favor of the Confederacy, such as terrain, weather and technology. The Confederacy was able
to use railroads to transport troops to battle, which had never been done before. This allowed them to
continue fighting while the Union troops were growing tired and weak. Since the battle was fought on
Southern soil, the Confederacy gained the upper hand. Not only did their troops have knowledge of
the terrain, they were also accustomed to the warmer, humid climate of the south. The Union also had

The Union believed that if they defeated the Confederacy no further attacks would be carried out. In
addition, President Lincoln aimed to re establish Federal law in the Southern states that had seceded
from the nation. He also wanted the Union Army to stop Confederate legislators from meeting in the
new Southern capitol of Richmond, Virginia. President Lincoln believed that this would bring a
speedy end to the war. BG Beauregard held a strong position in Manassas Junction. Manassas offered
railroad access which would lead to the center of Virginia, by way of Orange and Alexandria
Railroads. It was essential that Beauregard was able to maintain this position.
The weather on the day of battle was hot, in the mid 80 s to low 90 s, and humid. The heat had a
negative effect on Union soldiers. The Union Army set out at 2 a.m. to avoid engaging in battle during
the hottest part of the day. Many of these Soldiers were untrained in road marches and lacked
discipline. They would break ranks to find water, rest or collect blackberries. For these reasons they
reached Bull Run three hours late and consequently ended up fighting well into the day. Both sides
went into the battle with high morale. They believed that over the course of a few days they would be
victorious and the war would be won in this one battle. The terrain of the Battle was mostly rolling
country side. Bull Run River was running through the battlefield, which is what the battle was named

particular, Anna, seemed to struggle with the simple weekly ritual of remembering her belongings. As
the students unrolled their yoga mats on the dance floor, Anna ran off to the bathroom to change and
scoured the designated lockbox in search of a mat she liked. Although Anna did not comply with the
standard behavior of the subculture, Bryan did not expect all of the students to be equally familiar

30. Cinderella Differences And Cinderella Compare
Cinderella Compare and Contrast Essay
Many people wonder where all the Cinderella stories originated from? They originated from the most
popular version written in French by Charles Perrault written in 1607. The Little Golden book, the
Grimm brothers version and the 2015 Disney Film version of Cinderella are all taken from the original
story. All Cinderella stories have the same storyline, but there are differences and similarities between
the archetypes and the characters and in the theme in the three versions.
There are lots of archetypes seen throughout all three versions. An archetype that is shown is circles,
which means wholeness and unity. An example of circles from The Little Golden Book is A pumpkin
rose up and swelled into an elegant coach (6). This shows that Cinderella s life is becoming complete
because the coach takes her the ball, which is where she meets the price she marries. Another example
of circles is the sun rise in the morning this is shown in the Grimms version There she had to do hard
work from morning until evening .... ( paragraph 6). This shows wholeness in the morning when the
sunrises being the sun is becoming whole and its a circle. Likewise in the Little Golden Book, the
Fairy Godmother turned the pumpkin into an elegant coach that she road to the ball as projectiled in
the 2015 Disney movie. This shows that her life is coming complete because she has found her destiny
which is the price she meets at the ball.
The theme is all three versions are similar but also have their own differences. The theme in the Little
Golden Book is hard work and kindness pays off. An example of this is Cinderella and the prince lived
happily ever after (12). This shows the them by the hard work Cinderella had to do at home and also it
means that because of all the hard work she got a reward which was to marry the prince and live the
life of her dreams. The theme for the 2015 Disney movie is Have Courage and be kind . This was
shown throughout the movie when Cinderella s mom told her have courage and be kind just before she
died. Also this is seen right before the prince s father died and tells his the same message. Cinderella
acted this way mainly because she was the princess not by blood,

Gary Soto was born in Fresno, California, in April, 1952, to working class Mexican American parents.
At a young age, he worked in the fields of the San Joaquin Valley. He was not academically motivated
as a child, but became interested in poetry during his high school years. Soto uses his cultural
experiences lead him to write about his character how he does and throughout all of his short stories,
books, and poems he adds in Spanish words, to show us the kind of environment he grew up in as a
Spanish American. Reflecting on the obstacles he had to overcome such as racial discrimination and
the ethnic boundaries, to get where he is today.
Gary grew up in a poor Catholic household. His father and grandfather had blue collar jobs and his
mother peeled potatoes. Because of the family s poverty, exacerbated by the father s early death in a
work related accident, Soto was forced to earn money as an agricultural laborer in the San Joaquin
Valley and at a tire retread factory in Fresno. Although he never mentions it in his poems, Soto does
have an impressive academic background: He was graduated magna cum laude from California State

Reconstruction has been brutally murdered! For a little over a decade after the Civil War, the
victorious North launched a campaign of social, economic, and political recovery in the former
Confederacy and to readmit the land in the former Confederacy back into the United States as states.
Reconstruction yielded many benefits for African Americans. The 13th, 14th, and 15th Amendments
freed African Americans, made them citizens, and gave them the right to vote respectively. The
Freedmen s Bureau also provided African Americans and poor whites with education, jobs, and
supplies. Despite this, Reconstruction was cut short in 1877. The North killed Reconstruction because
of racism, negligence, and distractions. One reason the North killed ... Show more content on

Obviously, this was a foolhardy move by the North. The amnesty of Southerners gave racist
Southerners another chance to dominate the South with racism and hate. The North also had failed to
stop black codes. These laws restricted African Americans rights such as congregating, bearing arms,
working for other African Americans, and coming within town limits (Black Codes). Finally, the
North was oblivious to the antics of the Ku Klux Klan, a white nationalist hate group. After the
murder of John W. Stephens, Albion Tourgee claimed that he had very little doubt that I (sic) shall be
one of the next victims (Tourgee, 1870). If Albion Tourgee had so little doubt that he would be a
victim of the Ku Klux Klan, then it was probably not safe for Republicans, scalawags, and
carpetbaggers in the South during Reconstruction. The North was responsible for providing safety in
the South for Republicans, carpetbaggers, scalawags, and African Americans. This would have proved
that the North was negligent. Therefore, if the North had not been negligent, the African Americans,
scalawags, and carpetbaggers would have been safe during and after Reconstruction even if the South
had intentions to harm them. During the course of Reconstruction, the North was distracted and
needed to shift their focus from Reconstruction to other affairs. The Panic of 1873 created an
atmosphere where people began to oppose Reconstruction (Danzer, 1998). The Grant

35. Postmodernism And Its Influence On Modern Society
Postmodernism is a complex term that has tried to be describes by many different theorist in many
different ways. Some say that it is so hard to define because it is an idea that emerges across and
variety of disciplines. In its most basic form Postmodernism can be describes at departure from
modernism and is characterized by the self conscious use of earlier styles and conventions, a mixing
of different artistic styles and media, and a general distrust of theories (Oxford Dictionary, 2010). So
with this definition in mind we must look at modernism and the movement away from this to
postmodernism. We will also look at the characteristic of postmodernism and how it is represented in
the media culture.
The phrase postmodernism was used to depict a style in architecture in the early 1960 s, this style used
components from the past architectural styles and combined them to create buildings. This term was
coined and used by cultural and political theorist to express contemporary Western and global society,
two of theorists which will be discussed is Fredric Jameson and Linda Hitcheon who have apposing
views on the theory.
Fredric Jameson is an American literary critic and Marxist political theorist. Jameson argues that a
shift in the economic society began in the late 1960 s, and that the world is moving into a phase he
calls late capitalism. Jameson view is that there is a link between the economic changes that has lead
to a postmodern style of living, however that it
