President Abraham Lincoln and Walt Whitman
President Abraham Lincoln, admired by Walt Whitman, blossomed in Whitman s writing and in
American mythology (Eiselein) for his leadership and nobility. Whitman hoped for a rugged,
healthy, who knew what real, physical work was, to be the [r]edeemer [p]resident of [t]hese [s]tates
(Whitman). His hopes came true as in a dream (Whitman) when four years later, just such a beard
faced boatman (Goodheart) entered the White House. Walt Whitman discovered the comprehensive,
all directing soul he had long been seeking (Reynolds) in Abraham Lincolns life. Therefore
Whitman, a patriotic American, would see Lincoln s death as not only a grave tragedy but also a
promise [of] ultimate purgation and unification for America. (Reynolds).
Dedicating countless hours to the war and politics before President Lincoln s death, Whitman
strained to restore the Union as a whole. Feeling obligated to participate in the war effort, Whitman
secured a government position making regular visit[s] [to] soldiers in war hospitals (Constantkis).
Whitman also participated in the Free Soil Party, a rising opposition to the progression and spread
of slavery, and wrote political commentaries in his effort to strengthen the Union. These
undertakings not only aided the Union, but also brought Whitman closer to his idol, Lincoln, who
also wanted to preserve the Union. Devastated by the assassination of President Lincoln, Walt
Whitman wrote O Captain! My Captain!, This Dust Was Once the Man, and

Research Paper On Mrs. Dubose s Camellias
Mrs. Dubose s camellias are representative of prejudice and the actions being taken against it.
Like racism, Jem tried to handle the problem in a way that at first seemed effective, but in the
long run, it was not. Jem ...had cut the tops off every camellia bush Mrs. Dubose owned until
the ground was littered with green buds and leaves (Lee 137). Racism was also handled in this
way. Although their efforts were well intended, as long as there were strong supporters on both
sides and none of the solutions had a large impact there were no long term results. The camellias
are symbolic of this when Mrs. Dubose asks Jem Thought you could kill my snow on the
mountain did you? Well, Jessie says the tops growing back out. Next time you ll know to do

Jeeps-A way of Life Since 1941
The very first Jeep was created in 1941. This Jeep was known as the Military Bantam AKA the
MB Jeep. The United States Department of War needed a new light, cross country, reconnaissance
vehicle. Therefore an American automobile company called Willy s Overland and Motors created
the Army s new vehicle. This vehicle was a 2.2L engine, 4 wheel drive, 2 door, with a 3 speed
manual transmission Jeep. The Willy s Jeep another name for the MB was also a Вј ton vehicle that
was the top of the line military technology. Jeeps were essential to transportation of military
soldiers and equipment to designated spots. With this amazing help of the Jeep, the army was
getting to its peak in World War II. Jeeps grabbed my attention and interest because not only do I
own one, but I believe the iconic history of Jeeps is amazing. It amazes me that this small vehicle
can have such a huge impact on history as becoming the World War II Vehicle . Jeeps have
inspired other similar light utility vehicles and are the oldest off road vehicleever made. Jeeps also
have a huge impact on today s modern society. Jeeps bring society together. Jeep people have a
slang term for themselves called Jeepers . Within today s society there are Jeep Clubs. The
aftermath of the Military Bantam Jeep, the Civilian Jeep, was another start to the legacy of Jeeps.
In 1944 the CJ was brought to life with in the Jeep world. Along with all of its other brothers in
the military this was the first Jeep to be used in public

Double Jeopardy In The Criminal Justice Act 2003
The legal issues that can be determined from the question is the validity of the double jeopardy
principle based on the amendments in the Criminal Justice Act 2003. The question also seeks to
evaluate the impact of the amendments on the system of justice in England and Wales.
In lay terms, double jeopardy means placing someone on trial a second time for an offense for which
he/she has been previously acquitted, even when new incriminating evidence has been unearthed.
Athenian statesman and philosopher Demosthenes was one of the earliest to conceptualise the
double jeopardy principle when he stated in 355 BC, The law forbids the same man to be tried
twice on the same issue. Thousands of years prior in the nineteenth century B.C.E, Law ... Show

second time by the court of law for a serious offence if and only if new and compelling evidence is

Ordinary People Conflict
In the movie Ordinary People, the Jarrett family is faced with traumatic events that provoke
situations of crucial communication. The family members, Conrad (son), Beth (mother), and
Calvin (father), have to deal with the loss of their beloved older son and brother. The loss of
Buck hit Conrad, especially hard, resting displaced guilt on his shoulders. Conrad buckles under
the guilt and pain, allowing him to draw in the dark emotions that fill his heart and mind
attempting to end his life and end the agony. The opening of the movie is set in the time following

Beth, everything was okay and that is exactly what she told everyone. She refused to feel her

Low-speed Circulating Wind Tunnels Essay
Introduction When a viscous fluid flows along a fixed impermeable wall, or past the rigid
surface of an immersed body, an essential condition is that a velocity at any point on the wall or
other fixed surface is zero. To the extent to which the condition modifies the general character of
the flow is dependent on the viscosity of the fluid. If a body has a streamlined shape and the
fluid flowing over the body has a small viscosity that is not negligible, the modifying effect
appears to be confined to the narrowest regions adjacent to the solid surfaces; these are called
boundary layers. Within these layers, there is a rapid change in velocity which gives rise to a large
velocity gradient normal to the boundary which produces a shear stress... Show more content on

In the medium air speed wind tunnels where wind speed ranges from 1.5 40m/s, several types of
wind tunnels can be applied. At first, an open suction type wind tunnel can have a large test
section with high contraction ratio [3]. This type of wind tunnel has a large inlet area to take
motionless air to the test section. Air filters can be installed before the inlet to prevent any dust
from entering the test section and disturbing the air flow [3]. It also provides a pressure drop to
generate uniform flow at the inlet. A honeycomb shaped panel and several sheets of screens are
installed in the settling chamber of the wind tunnel. The contraction section makes the air flow
more uniform and stable. A diffuser is placed downstream of the test section to prevent an
adverse pressure gradient. This is done by increasing the cross sectional area along the main flow
direction [3]. When the open suction type wind tunnel is used for calibration purposes, air in front
of the inlet section should be as dormant as possible [3].A baffle or a restraint can be installed at
the inlet section to prevent any flow disturbances at the inlet of the wind tunnel [3]. However, if
there are any fluctuations in the air at the inlet, a closed type wind tunnel can prevent this. In a
closed type wind tunnel, air is

Management 1.1 WHAT IS SUPPLY CHAIN MANAGEMENT? Fierce competition in today s
global markets, the introduction of products with shorter life cycles, and the heightened
expectations of customers have forced business enterprises to invest in, and focus attention on, their
supply chains. This, together with continuing advances in communications and transportation
technologies (e.g., mobile communication, Internet, and overnight delivery), has motivated the
continuous evolution of the supply chain and of the techniques to manage it effectively. In a typical
supply chain, raw materials are procured and items are produced at one... Show more content on

Although many of these concepts are useful and insightful, for the purposes of this text, we will use
supply chain management as the generic name for the set of concepts, approaches, strategies, and
ideas that we are discussing. What makes supply chain management difficult? Although we will
discuss a variety of reasons throughout this text, they can all be related to some or all of the
following observations: 1. Supply chain strategies cannot be determined in isolation. They are
directly affected by another chain that most organizations have, the development chain that
includes the set of activities associated with new product introduction. At the same time, supply
chain strategies also should be aligned with the specific goals of the organization, such as
maximizing market share or increasing profit. 2. It is challenging to design and operate a supply
chain so that total systemwide costs are minimized, and systemwide service levels are maintained.
Indeed, it is frequently difficult to operate a single facility so that costs are minimized and
service level is maintained. The difficulty increases exponentially when an entire

Social Engineering Flaws
Many wonder what is a social engineer and want to know what is that they do and why do they
do it. Social engineer is the art of manipulating people so that they give the social engineer
important information. A social engineer could be considered people who know you personally or
someone who do not know you at all. If it s a person you have not met, they would manipulate you
to make it seems as they are trusted individual. Social engineeringsometimes look for the flaws
within a company or an individual and use that for their gain. In my PowerPoint I stated that social
engineerare basically the scientific term for a hacker. They phish the brain to retrieve what is
needed and moved to the next vulnerable person or company.
The ultimate question that s asked is why social engineer do what they do. Many do it because
they either what social or financial gain, some of them also look to become well known in the
industry. After reading a few pages from the book The Art of Deception many social engineers are
either hired by a company to test the employee s ability to just trust anyone with their information.
Some social engineer intrude on the company s infrastructure to see if they can find any flaws
within the company. If a very important flaw is found they then present it to the company s a
business venture or to get hired on as the personal to repair the flaws and heighten the company s
infrastructure so that the breach and any other breaches don t take place. The venture is like a

The Chinese Expansion And Territorial Claims Within The...
The Chinese expansion and territorial claims in the South China Sea is escalating tensions with
surrounding countries and the United States. As the National Security Council summons to discuss
this matter, I embrace the role of the Secretary of Defense. A brief explanation of this job is, Under
the President, who is also Commander in Chief, the Secretary of Defense exercises authority,
direction, and control over the Department, which includes the separately organized military
departments of Army, Navy, and Air Force, the Joint Chiefs of Staffproviding military advice, the
unified and specified combatant commands, and various defense agencies established for specific
purposes (unt.edu). Furthermore, it is important to understand that persons in the position of
Secretary Defense are a member of the cabinet, appointed by the president. This piece of
information is pivotal in order to fathom the idea that the Secretary of Defense is subject to
modification with every transformation of administration, hence sanctioning only a small amount
of continuity in military strategy. The responsibility coveted by the Secretary of Defense at this
conference that can be inferred from the duties outlined above is, collaboration with all constituents
of the Department of the Defense in the direction of providing the best recommendation regarding
resolution of the tensions over the South China Sea. The focal point of this recommendation will be
a military strategy and the manner in which to

Stereotype A Thought By Beverly Daniel Tatum
Stereotype a Thought Today, many believe that stereotypes have been eradicated throughout our
modern world, this is far from the truth. Beverly Daniel Tatum, an author of several books
including Why Are Black Kids Sitting Together in the Cafeteria asks, How did academic
achievement become defined as exclusively white behavior? Tatum has an interesting point,
however stereotyping is not just about race it can be about gender bias, or body issues too. Ann
DuCille, author of From Multicultural Barbie and the Merchandising of Difference says;
Barbie s body is a consumer object itself a vehicle for display of clothing and spectacular trappings
of a wealthy teenage fantasy life . Ducille gives a good example of body politics, and the
importance of not only focusing on race. Thus, is a good example of how stereotypes are learned
by how one is treated in schoolor at home. Education about racial identity, gender equality, and
body shaming, to an extent, will help eliminate some forms of stereotyping and create a more
understanding and equal society. Therefore schools are not the problem, stereotypes, however
racist, sexist, or just plain mean, are learned at home and in schools from peers, parents and
teachers alike. In a way, stereotypes will never truly be eliminated from our world because from the
day we are born we notice differences. One may argue that it is just a distinction between people,
which constitutes stereotyping. Just

Examples Of Satire In The Simpsons
The Simpsons: Equal Opportunity Satire While there are many different perspectives on whether
the popular animated show The Simpsons depicts Christianity in a favorable, unfavorable or
apathetic light, my personal opinion is that the signature satirical style of the show is actually a
strategy to please the widest audience, whether religious or not presenting equal opportunity satire.
Their unapologetic and unabashed way of making fun of anything and everything is what has
allowed the show to continue for so many seasons and also allow the viewer to draw their own
conclusions. The diverse characters represented in the series advocate a wide range of different
perspectives, ranging from the atheistic to the theistic. In the 1992 episode, Homer the Heretic,

On one hand, Christians would see the fact that the Simpson home burned and that Homer was

their biases and confirmation bias when Homer reinforces his belief in God by being saved by
Flanders (Confirmation Bias). Nevertheless, the show accommodates many different cultures and
beliefs. Pinksy says individually, family members represent a spectrum of belief, from Homer s fear
based neo paganism, to Marge s true belief, to Lisa s disenchantment with mainline, socially
conscious Protestantism, in favor of Buddhism as well as the fundamentalist Flanders family. He

Smog Pollution Control Of Los Angeles Essay
It is well known that for decades the city of Los Angeles has had some of the worst air pollution
in the country. There would be days where the smog would be so thick that people were forced to
stay indoors due to the health risks. In the late 1940 s Los Angeles established the Air Pollution
Control District. It was the first in the nation. Since then there have been stricter regulations and
laws passed to help reduce Los Angeles smogproblem. Though Los Angeles has reduced its air
pollutionby nearly a third of what it was, it is still one of the nation worst air polluters. It has not
met the Environmental Protection Agency s acceptable levels of air pollutant.
Photochemical smog is the main reason behind the air pollution in Los Angeles, but there are many
parts of photochemical smog that make it so harmful. Photochemical smog develops from two main
sources: sunlight and the emission from combustible engines. What are emitted from the
incomplete combustion are carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxide, sulfur oxide, volatile organic
compounds (VOC s) and very fine particulate matter. When nitrogen oxide reacts with sunlight,
it creates ground level ozone, O3. Ozone in the upper atmosphere does is very beneficial and
shields us from ultra violet rays. At ground level, ozone can cause damage to the respiratory
system and cardiac problems. Carbon monoxide binds to red blood cells and prevents them from
absorbing oxygen and can stay in your system for days. VOC s can be an eyes, nose

Walt Disney s Theory Of Bureaucracy, And Blake And Mouton...
Introduction
Walt Disney Company is a mass media and entertainment company headquartered in Burbank,
California. The Disney brothers Walt and Roy founded Disney in 1923. Originally, Disney was
strictly an animation industry before expanding into television, film, and most notably theme
parks. Disney s theme parks have become world renowned for the experiences and memories they
give the people that visit the park. Disney s parks are also respected for their organizational
communication in terms of their employees and their interactions with visitors of the theme park.
As mentioned earlier, Disney is a company that applies organizational communication to all facets
of their operations especially to their theme parks. This is why we decided to study them so
closely for this paper. We will apply Deal and Kennedy s Strong Culturetheory, Weber s Theory of
Bureaucracy, and Blake and Mouton s Managerial Grid to what we have learned about Disney as
an organization to analyze where they fit into each of these theories and critique their
organizational practice and identify any ways they can improve as outlined by these theories.
Deal and Kennedy s Strong Cultures When defining culture, one can say that culture means: a
particular form or stage of civilization as that of a certain nation or period; development or
improvement of the mind by education or training; or the behaviors and beliefs characteristics of a
particular social, ethnic, or age group (Culture). All of

Once More Of The Lake
Once More to the Lake is a short essay written by E.B. White for his column in the New Yorker,
One Man s Meat. Once More to the Lake is a story about a father who is taking his son to his
childhood vacation spot. On the trip, the father finds himself inside the memories of his past.
Throughout the trip, the father finds differences in the lake from when he was a child. While
much of E.B. White s essay is set in the present, the author explores his own mortality as he looks
both to the past and to the future. Elwyn Brooks White was born on July 11, 1899, in Mount
Vernon, New York, and died in 1985. Throughout his lifetime, White had traveled to many places
and held several jobs ranging from reporter to army private. He became a multifaceted writer but
primarily wrote style manual, fiction, poetry, and children s literature. Throughout his life, White
was surrounded by many other talented writers including Dorothy Parker, Robert Benchley, and
Stephen Leacock. White wrote the well known children s stories Stuart Littleand Charlotte s Web.
Many of White s works were accomplished with the help of his wife, former editor, Katharine
Angell. Once More to the Lake was published in 1941 along with many other works on which he
and Katharine had collaborated. The year 1941 was the onset of World War II in America. Other
countries had been at war for some time. In 1941, however, the war became increasingly eminent
for Americans. E.B. White did not slow down his writing during

Netflix Competitive Analysis
1. A key business goal was to reduce the cost of building the DVD library. One tactic used to
achieve this goal was to stimulate demand on older and lesser know movie titles. Shifting demand
away from higher cost new releases drove down the average price of acquiring DVDs and
improved asset utilization. This produced increased margins and profitability.
To balance demand Netflix developed a proprietary recommendation system. The system enabled

Flare Fragrance
Analyzing Flare
Fragrances Co., Inc.
Joseph J Fortunato CR 504
Marketing Management
May, 31, 2011
About Flare Fragrances: Flare Fragrances Company, a small women s perfume manufacturer, was
started in 1955.
Since inception, Flare has grown to be the #4 player in the U.S. women s fragrance market. For
2008 EOY estimates were $221 million dollars up 2% over 2007 sales. In 1975 Flare introduced the
brand Loveliest which was their sole focus until 1996 when they introduced Awash . Since that
time, the company introduced a new fragrance every three years with Loveliest on the label. Early
on Flare fragrances sold its brands through premium and mid tier department stores until the late

Retail Price Point:$40 for 1.7oz. Spray bottle. Variable coststructure similar to other Flare

cost of $400,000.00

$100,000.00.
Timing of Launch:First orders excepted in 2009; first shipments in September 2009.
Sales Target:Gross factory sales of $7.5 million in 2009.
In analyzing this new product introduction recommendation a few things come to mind based on
the findings of Arlmont Associates as well as the focus group findings and the wants of the
company s founders. Flare fragrances typical new product introduction has been every three years
and this new launch is on target to meet the new introduction schedule. Although doing nothing or
concentrating on drugstore expansion are options, if bringing the company public is the ultimate
goal of the companies founders, then historically, especially for investors, it is critical to maintain
Flare s historical product launch schedule. If the company does not it would appear that there are

As Mr.Ali s STR, they will be there to support Mr.Ali through anything he finds difficult in his daily
life and support him with tasks when needed.
The STR will put their views across to other professionals and Mr.Ali when in the process of

The Object Oriented ( Oo ) Environment And The Strategies...
Executive Summary:
This research report discusses about the object oriented (OO) environment and the strategies that
are used for testing an object oriented environment. The report also lists the tactics and metrics for
testing in an object oriented environment. The object oriented approach closely relates the
programs to the real world with the help of objects. The popularity of OO approach has increased
due to ease of reuse and modular architecture that leads to quality software. Software testing is
important to ensure delivery of error free software. Testing an OO program is challenging because
of the complexity due to interconnection among the components. Various testing strategies and
methods can be followed to test OO software. Apart from the strategies and methods certain metrics
need to be considered and used to measure the quality of the projects. Software metrics are proven
measures for measuring the development of the software process.
OO programs are based on hierarchy of classes and objects. The four pillars, encapsulation,
inheritance, polymorphism and abstraction can be used to achieve reusability of code. As
compared to the conventional software programming, the faults are not found in code, instead are
in the interaction of the chunks of codes. Testing of an OO program begins with reviewing the
object oriented analysis (OOA) and object oriented design (OOD) models. Variety of Testing
strategies such as unit testing, thread based, use based and cluster

An Analysis Of To His Coy Mistress By Andrew Marvell
In the poem, To His Coy Mistress, by Andrew Marvell, The narrator is writing a letter to a
woman he is courting, which the storyteller feels that life is short and this woman needs to stop
showing mixed feelings towards him, to know her true feelings. The narrator is convinced that
there is not enough time for this woman to be shy, regarding her feelings to him, in addition to,
his opinion of believing that he is the best man for her, but if this woman does not feel the same
way, then let the narrator live his life and to not make him wait for a decision from her. The
message of this poem that is conveyed by the author, life is too short to wait on someone else s
decision of whether a person feels the same way, or if they are being timid about how they feel
about someone. One of the main points made by Marvell, is that life is too short for this lady to
mull over whether she likes the author or does not want to pursue anything other than friendship,
instead of what the author wants, love and marriage. In this excerpt from the poem by Marvell
is stating that he feels that there will not be enough time before this woman decides how she
feels about the narrator. But at my back I always hear /Time s wingГЁd chariot hurrying near;
And yonder all before us lie /Deserts of vast eternity, (21 24). Secondly, the author is convinced
that his love will be the best for this woman that he is courting. Marvell feels that his love is

Online Graduate Programs Essay
Online Graduate Programs
Over the past few years there has been a significant increase in the number of students enrolled in
online graduate programs. Before online graduate programs existed, an undergraduate student could
only receive a graduate degree if they physically attended a university. However, with the
improvements in technology, students can now receive a graduate degree from their home by
simply attending lectures online, and submitting their work through email to the professor. Although
there are conflicting ideas about whether or not a student can retain the same amount of information
from an online program as opposed to attending a graduate school, research shows that online

This differs from the classroom where there may be several questions at one time in which the
professor is trying to handle.
An example of the effectiveness of online learning may be seen through a recent study conducted
by the Test of Understanding College Economics. The study indicated, students who select into the
online classes perform better than they would in a face to face class (Coates, 2004, p. 533).
Therefore, it has been proven that there is no significant difference in the material learned in online
graduate programs as opposed to graduate schools. These studies show that for some people, online
graduate programs provide a better learning atmosphere than graduate schools. Therefore, online
graduate programs are better suited for some people.
In addition to being able to actively communicate with your professor online, students are able to
work at their own pace. For online graduate programs, an assignment will be given, and the
student has to turn it in before the deadline. Students do not have to worry about what time they
work on the assignment as long as it is turned in on the date it was requested. This is beneficial for
people who are trying to manage a job and attend school at the same time. Since many people have
to pay for graduate school themselves, they are often forced to work full time. Due to this, there are
often scheduling conflicts between work and graduate school. Students who attend graduate school

The Correlation Between Self Efficacy And Specific Aspects...
The survey results would be analyzed to discover any correlations between the three sections. I
would correlate each of the demographic factors to the self efficacy score to determine if any
patterns emerge indicating that self efficacy has an impact on lifestyle and experiences outside of
abuse, or conversely, whether lifestyle has an impact on self efficacy. This survey would be too
limited to distinguish which is driving the other, except to say that a relationship of some kind
exists, and that could provide a jumping off point for future research.
I would also correlate each participant s self efficacy score to the scores from the biographical area
as subdivided into these categories: total number of incidents, past offender against ... Show more

To understand the variation in responses, I would identify the measures of dispersion for self
efficacy scores and each of the maltreatment subcategories (past and present, victim, and offender
against minor and against partner incidents). Discussion
Needless to say, this survey would in no way provide conclusive information regarding how to
break the cycle of violence. It would, however, provide insight into the connection that may exist
between a person s level of self efficacy and their experience of abuse, both as victim and
perpetrator. This would be extremely beneficial to anyone involved in assisting abuse victims
because it would provide the knowledge and motivation to help clients develop self efficacy,
thereby arming them with at least one of the requisite tools to safeguard them against becoming a
victim or offender. My hope is that by enhancing victims self efficacy, future generations can be
spared because victims will go forward making healthier choices than did their predecessors. That
is assuming, of course, that my hypothesis is correct, and a high level of self efficacy is correlated
to low involvement in the cycle of violence.

The first ratio that will be used is the profit margin ratio. This ratio is computed by dividing net
income by sales. The second ratio to be used is known as the return on assets ratio (ROA). Return
on Assets is computed by dividing net income by total assets. The final ratio that will used within
this report is called the return on equity ratio (ROE). This ratio can be calculated by dividing a
company s net income by its total equity.
There are quite a few reasons for choosing the three ratios mentioned above. One big reason for
our selection is due to the popularity of these ratios. By having a lot of popularity, we can be sure
that our audience will be familiar with what we are talking about, without having to waste too much
time explaining. Another reason for choosing these three ratios is that they are relatively easy to
calculate. A final reason for picking our three ratios is because they allow us to understand why a
company may be outperforming or underperforming in term of profitability, without having to be a
professional.

Extreme Sports Not About Risk Taking Study
A wise person once said, The proper function of man is to live, not exist. I shall not waste my
days trying to prolong them. I shall use my time. This quote explains that we should not waste
our time and actually do something worth living for. That we should use the time we have to do
or become something, instead of wasting it. We should use this in our life just like how extreme
sports athletes did. The only difference is that their path is riskier than ours because they do many
dangerous activities such as Base Jumping, Cave Diving, and BMX. Extreme sports are a good
idea because you get to be in the moment and feel the rush, but you should take some precautions
because it can be very dangerous.

Canad A Beneficial Thing
Canada in the early stages was not how it was today, especially in the area of multiculturalism.
Multiculturalism in Canada during the 1900 s was rare and not spoken of. In fact, the British
people in Canada were against it. They came up with laws like the Chinese Head Tax , the
Continuous Journey Regulation and residential schools in order to make it hard for foreigners to
come and live in Canada. After awhile, Canada decided to become an independent country and
separated from the British rule . With this change Canada had a different way of seeing immigrants.

Back then, Canada was an extension of the British rule and was ruled by the whites. Britain
being as powerful as they were in the 1900 s, had a vision of Canada being Home away from
home . In other words, the British wanted Canada to be for just the whites. With this mentality
put in their heads the Canadians started to enforce laws to try and keep Canada as white as
possible . One of them was the Chinese Head Tax which was a tax that was put on every Chinese
person that wanted to enter Canada. At the beginning, when the law was first put in place, it
only cost fifty dollars for every Chinese immigrant. However, as time went on the price
multiplied, as it rose to an astonishing five hundred dollars . This was a huge problem for the
Chinese as they did not make a lot of money, they found it very difficult paying for the head taxes.
This resulted in fewer Chinese immigrants coming to Canada, which was what the Canadians and
British wanted to happen. Another law Canada enforced was, the Continuous Journey regulation
which was introduced in the early 1900 s. This law only allowed entry to Asian passengers that
had sailed on a continuous journey from their home land to Canada. Enforcing this law the
government knew that not many Asians would stay on a cramped ship for several months due to
the spread of sicknesses and diseases, so they were satisfied with this law and were still motivated
to keep Canada s immigration levels low. Another act

The Importance Of Body Worn Cameras
Body Worn Cameras are spreading worldwide, under the assumption that police performance,
conduct, accountability, and legitimacy, in the eyes of the public, are enhanced as a result of
using these devices. Also, suspects demeanor during police public engagements is hypothesized
to change as a consequence of the video recording of the encounter (Ariel, 2016, para.1).
Research has shown that body worn cameras by law enforcement officers dramatically reduces
both civilian complaints against officers and the use of force by officers. Since the beginning of
using the body worn cameras by law enforcement officers, behavior has improved, and de
escalation on both sides of the cameras that happen during the interactions with the public has
decreased. The body worn cameras provide members of the public, the media, and researchers with
vital information about the quality of policepublic interactions; especially the relatively small, but
critical, minority that involves officer use of force. (Kiernan, 2016) These videos will not resolve
all debates about the propriety of the officer s behaviors they portray, but the information they do
reveal can advance empirically grounded policing reform. (Kiernan, 2016, para. 6)
The advantages of wearing the body worn for both police officers and citizens are to record every
encounter with members of the public to minimize complaints and unnecessary use of force. The
video can be utilized for shreds of evidence of decisions made by police

The Future Of Business Consulting
There will be a general growth trend in the global consulting market, with emerging markets
becoming more profitable and important in the foreseeable future (Salifu). Companies will also
increasingly seek wholistic consulting services (Salifu). Our research corroborated this trends, as

changes in the economic, technological, business and political environment are set to affect the

not all consulting firms will gain equally from this growth. Businesses are continuously evolving

Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill
One famous example of pollution is the Deepwater Horizon oil spill. It happened in the Gulf of
Mexico and it is the largest oil spill in United States history. It was caused by a BP oil well
explosion. This was said to have happened because the managers misread pressure information
and replaced drilling fluid with ocean water. According to the co chair there was not a culture of
safety on that rig . The oil spill was discovered April 22, 2010. It is still not entirely cleaned up.
The polluted water contained 40% Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH) than most oil spills.
PAHs are carcinogens found in fossil fuels, the Gulf of Mexico oil spill contained 35% more
methane than the 5% average. These toxins can cause irregular heartbeats leading

Couponing Should Be Banned Essay
Couponing is a smart method to save money. While couponing is a great way to save money, is
it fair? Couponing takes a lot of time and most people choose not to bother and end up paying a
higher price for the exact same product at the same store. Should couponing even be legal? Price
discrimination is a factor at play when it comes to couponing. Customer rebates are another
questionable practice we will discuss as we delve into this topic of pricediscrimination, price
elasticity and monopolistic competition.
Keywords: Price discrimination, price elasticity, monopolistic competition
The Right Price for Some Couponing and consumer rebates are things that some of us look forward
to when shopping. When we coupon, we save lots of money and consumer ... Show more content on

I am sure that is a lot stores slogans, but how often do you actually coupon? Most people that
coupon are looking for lower prices or a better deal, but aren t we all? Couponing is time
consuming and not everyone has the time to save the money they would like, and a person
could say that this is an unfair practice. Coupons are a very effective way to price discriminate.
Customers who are very responsive to price changes that is, customers with a very elastic
demand are likely to take time to find coupons that effectively lower the good s price. On the
other hand, customers less responsive to price changes because of their less elastic demand aren
t as likely to take the time to find coupons. Graham, R. J. (n.d.). Going under the assumption that
only people who absolutely need to save money are the only ones who coupons, is that fair? One
would say that it is. If a person really wants to save money, they can clip coupons as well. The
couponing practice is not discriminatory as far as who can clip coupons, it is just discriminatory
as to who will actually do it. I, personally, should use more coupons, but the time it takes to clip
them out and finding the product that the product is for is too time consuming for me. The
opportunity cost is too great in some circumstances for me to clip coupons even though I might need

The Crucible Critical Analysis
The English philosopher, Sir Francis Bacon, once wrote, Reading maketh a full man; conference
a ready man; and writing an exact man . Bacon expresses three ideas about how processing
literature affects an individual. To explain, reading fills one s mind with knowledge and ideas,
talking about those ideas makes one adaptable to differences in others, and writing forces one is
define one s beliefs and opinions. In room 303, Bacon s three statements are practiced regularly,
as students read and annotate out of the hymnals, discuss major texts in class, and write essays
each week over the material. During the last semester alone the Junior Honors English class read
several texts by American Authors from the ancient oral cosmogonist myths of Native Americans
to the Feminist literature of the 1890 s. In the entire range of different texts read, three specific
texts were the most important in room 303. The Crucible by Arthur Miller makes one reflect on
one s morals as the play unfolds. The 1953 play revolves around the town of puritan Salemand the
actual people and events of the famous Salem witch trials. Arthur Miller wrote The Crucible in
the height of the Red Scare, and his play reveals the mass hysteria and paranoia which plagued
America at the time. Many of the innocent people accused in both Salem and in the 1950 s faced
not only a biased court, but a questioning of morality as the choice often was oneself gets jacked
or one discloses one s cohorts in the crime.

Anthem Individuality Essay
Individuality in Anthem
Ceaseless collectivism is not something that can be forced upon a community. Ayn Rand s novel
Anthem conveys this through the writings of Equality 7 2125, a man willing to stand up to the
collectivism of the society he is confined to. Anthem not only shows how dull and lifeless a
society can be with a lack of individuality in its people, but also reveals how one person can
significantly impact a community. This novel displays the importance of individualism through
Equality s thoughts and actions. This includes when he reinvents electricity in the tunnel, falls in
love with Liberty, and when he completely separates himself from society. Equality s individualism
is prominent when he purposely isolates himself in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In addition, Equality continues to make his individualism known by preferring a woman,
Liberty 3 5000, above all. While sweeping the streets, Equality takes notice of a woman working
in the fields. He is instantly intrigued by her and thinks of her over all others. Equality s attitude
is significantly changed by his interactions with Liberty. We do not know why we think of them.
We do not know why, when we think of them, we feel of a sudden that earth is good and that it is
not a burden to live (Rand 41). Individualism is shown when Equality chooses to favor Liberty.
Equality looked at her, even though there were other women in the field that day. He chooses
Liberty above all the woman. Equallity shows a preference in only her, which shows individuality.
To add, Equality is becoming more unruly and disobiedient by continuing to break rules. The
crimes he comits involve talking to woman of other Trades, looking upon woman, and the
Transgression of Preference, which is to prefer someone or something above others. Equality s
love for Liberty continues to isolate and detach him from his brothers. His love for Liberty
motivates him to banish himself from his society and cut off all his ties to it. Equality s
individuality grows further when he purposely separates himself from his society and obliterates
the last of his identity that associates himself with the City. While showing his light to the Council
of Scholars, they tell

Allison Bechdel s Fun Home
In Allison Bechdel s graphic memoir Fun Home, she uses a moment to moment transition to show
the transition of her father asking her a personal, disturbing question to her response and reaction to
the question. These two panels require little closure compared to other panels that Bechdel includes
in her memoir, which is evident because of the small time gap between the question and the answer.
While the transition between the two panels requires little closure with the scene itself, there is a
lot of room for interpretation involving Allision s thoughts and reaction to her father s question.
The scene itself is pretty obvious with what is happening with Allison and her father. He sees the
way that his daughter is staring at this woman with

Analysis of a Memorable Scene from Saving Private Ryan
MEMORABLE SCENE IN SAVING PRIVATE RYAN The epic 1998 war movie Saving Private
Ryan opens in the present day with an elderly World War II veteran accompanied by his family
visiting the Normandy American Cemetery and Memorial at Colleville sur mer in Normandy,
France, site of the infamous D Day landings by the Allies in Nazi occupied France on June 4,
1944 that precipitated the end of Nazi occupation in Europe and the end of the war. As he
approaches the tomb stones he begins walking faster, separating from his family behind him and
he collapses in tears at the foot of one grave in particular, that of Captain John H. Miller. The
screen then dissolves and transitions to the horrendous scenes of human carnage on Omaha
Beach on Normandy on June 4, 1944 seen through the eyes of Captain Miller. The final scene of
the movie was especially memorable because of the way that it tied together the memories of the
elderly veteran with the heroism and human tragedy that took place on the same beaches and that
he witnessed and experienced personally inland. As the story unfolds, Miller is assigned the task
of leading a squad of U.S. soldiers through occupied territories far ahead of the Allied advance into
France with a specific mission directly from General George C. Marshall at the War Department in
Washington, DC. Marshall had learned that three brothers from a single family had recently been
killed in the war and that one remaining brother was unaccounted for in France. Pursuant

Essay about Gender Bias Critic of Antigone
A Gender Bias Approach to Antigone
Just as one stone removed can break a bridge, one flaw can bring a man to ruins. The flaw of one
man cannot bring down an entire kingdom, but rather one outlook of the king can lead to the
demise of the whole. In Sophocles epic tragedy, Antigone, a strong gender bias is present
throughout the tragedy, and is partially responsible for the downfall of the king.
To Sophocles the king is not always representative of the people, but acts on his own personal
desires and judgments. Sophocles was born in 496 B.C. and from 490 B.C. until 442 B.C. when the
first performance of Antigone at the Dionysian theater; there had been many wars in the Greek and
Persian history. These ongoing battles would not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It was not until 442 B.C. that he wrote Antigone, with an even greater allusion to the role of women.
Before Antigone begins, the two brothers of Antigone are engaged in a battle no only of land,
but of power. Their deep desires to rule Thebes and male dominating ego, only lead to their
deaths; a tragedy that would affect more than just themselves. The battle of glory for men would
not be the same for their sisters, but in 442 B.C. as Sophocles illustrates, the living women
would have to deal with the tragedies of the dead; a task not easy to be burdened with as woman.
Their uncle, Creon, dominates Antigone and her sister Ismene to the extent of mourning their
own brother s death. Antigone has chosen a fate without glory: I ll suffer nothing as great as
death without glory, (Antigone line 112). Only a male in this time could die with honor and
glory, and just as her uncle has forced a death without glory for her brother, although a glorious
death is honorable, she has decided it a better life to die without glory than dishonor her blood
and the gods. Ismene does not wish to go against the laws of her uncle, for women were not born
to contend with men, but between the bond of her and Antigone, she will defy the king(line 75).
Ismene is just as horrified about the edict as Antigone is, but asks what they weak women can do.
During this era the women had a specific role, and to defy that role would be horrific enough,
despite

  • 2. President Abraham Lincoln and Walt Whitman President Abraham Lincoln, admired by Walt Whitman, blossomed in Whitman s writing and in American mythology (Eiselein) for his leadership and nobility. Whitman hoped for a rugged, healthy, who knew what real, physical work was, to be the [r]edeemer [p]resident of [t]hese [s]tates (Whitman). His hopes came true as in a dream (Whitman) when four years later, just such a beard faced boatman (Goodheart) entered the White House. Walt Whitman discovered the comprehensive, all directing soul he had long been seeking (Reynolds) in Abraham Lincolns life. Therefore Whitman, a patriotic American, would see Lincoln s death as not only a grave tragedy but also a promise [of] ultimate purgation and unification for America. (Reynolds). Dedicating countless hours to the war and politics before President Lincoln s death, Whitman strained to restore the Union as a whole. Feeling obligated to participate in the war effort, Whitman secured a government position making regular visit[s] [to] soldiers in war hospitals (Constantkis). Whitman also participated in the Free Soil Party, a rising opposition to the progression and spread of slavery, and wrote political commentaries in his effort to strengthen the Union. These undertakings not only aided the Union, but also brought Whitman closer to his idol, Lincoln, who also wanted to preserve the Union. Devastated by the assassination of President Lincoln, Walt Whitman wrote O Captain! My Captain!, This Dust Was Once the Man, and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Like racism, Jem tried to handle the problem in a way that at first seemed effective, but in the long run, it was not. Jem ...had cut the tops off every camellia bush Mrs. Dubose owned until the ground was littered with green buds and leaves (Lee 137). Racism was also handled in this way. Although their efforts were well intended, as long as there were strong supporters on both sides and none of the solutions had a large impact there were no long term results. • 4. Jeeps-A way of Life Since 1941 The very first Jeep was created in 1941. This Jeep was known as the Military Bantam AKA the MB Jeep. The United States Department of War needed a new light, cross country, reconnaissance vehicle. Therefore an American automobile company called Willy s Overland and Motors created the Army s new vehicle. This vehicle was a 2.2L engine, 4 wheel drive, 2 door, with a 3 speed manual transmission Jeep. The Willy s Jeep another name for the MB was also a Вј ton vehicle that was the top of the line military technology. Jeeps were essential to transportation of military soldiers and equipment to designated spots. With this amazing help of the Jeep, the army was getting to its peak in World War II. Jeeps grabbed my attention and interest because not only do I own one, but I believe the iconic history of Jeeps is amazing. It amazes me that this small vehicle can have such a huge impact on history as becoming the World War II Vehicle . Jeeps have inspired other similar light utility vehicles and are the oldest off road vehicleever made. Jeeps also have a huge impact on today s modern society. Jeeps bring society together. Jeep people have a slang term for themselves called Jeepers . Within today s society there are Jeep Clubs. The aftermath of the Military Bantam Jeep, the Civilian Jeep, was another start to the legacy of Jeeps. In 1944 the CJ was brought to life with in the Jeep world. In lay terms, double jeopardy means placing someone on trial a second time for an offense for which he/she has been previously acquitted, even when new incriminating evidence has been unearthed. • 8. Low-speed Circulating Wind Tunnels Essay Introduction When a viscous fluid flows along a fixed impermeable wall, or past the rigid surface of an immersed body, an essential condition is that a velocity at any point on the wall or other fixed surface is zero. To the extent to which the condition modifies the general character of the flow is dependent on the viscosity of the fluid. If a body has a streamlined shape and the fluid flowing over the body has a small viscosity that is not negligible, the modifying effect appears to be confined to the narrowest regions adjacent to the solid surfaces; these are called boundary layers. Within these layers, there is a rapid change in velocity which gives rise to a large velocity gradient normal to the boundary which produces a shear stress... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the medium air speed wind tunnels where wind speed ranges from 1.5 40m/s, several types of wind tunnels can be applied. At first, an open suction type wind tunnel can have a large test section with high contraction ratio [3]. This type of wind tunnel has a large inlet area to take motionless air to the test section. Air filters can be installed before the inlet to prevent any dust from entering the test section and disturbing the air flow [3]. It also provides a pressure drop to generate uniform flow at the inlet. A honeycomb shaped panel and several sheets of screens are installed in the settling chamber of the wind tunnel. The contraction section makes the air flow more uniform and stable. A diffuser is placed downstream of the test section to prevent an adverse pressure gradient. This is done by increasing the cross sectional area along the main flow direction [3]. When the open suction type wind tunnel is used for calibration purposes, air in front of the inlet section should be as dormant as possible [3].A baffle or a restraint can be installed at the inlet section to prevent any flow disturbances at the inlet of the wind tunnel [3]. However, if there are any fluctuations in the air at the inlet, a closed type wind tunnel can prevent this. In a closed type wind tunnel, air is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Fierce competition in today s global markets, the introduction of products with shorter life cycles, and the heightened expectations of customers have forced business enterprises to invest in, and focus attention on, their supply chains. Although many of these concepts are useful and insightful, for the purposes of this text, we will use supply chain management as the generic name for the set of concepts, approaches, strategies, and ideas that we are discussing. What makes supply chain management difп¬Ѓcult? Although we will discuss a variety of reasons throughout this text, they can all be related to some or all of the following observations: 1. Supply chain strategies cannot be determined in isolation. They are directly affected by another chain that most organizations have, the development chain that includes the set of activities associated with new product introduction. At the same time, supply chain strategies also should be aligned with the speciп¬Ѓc goals of the organization, such as maximizing market share or increasing proп¬Ѓt. 2. It is challenging to design and operate a supply chain so that total systemwide costs are minimized, and systemwide service levels are maintained. Indeed, it is frequently difп¬Ѓcult to operate a single facility so that costs are minimized and service level is maintained. • 15. The Chinese Expansion And Territorial Claims Within The... The Chinese expansion and territorial claims in the South China Sea is escalating tensions with surrounding countries and the United States. As the National Security Council summons to discuss this matter, I embrace the role of the Secretary of Defense. A brief explanation of this job is, Under the President, who is also Commander in Chief, the Secretary of Defense exercises authority, direction, and control over the Department, which includes the separately organized military departments of Army, Navy, and Air Force, the Joint Chiefs of Staffproviding military advice, the unified and specified combatant commands, and various defense agencies established for specific purposes (unt.edu). Furthermore, it is important to understand that persons in the position of Secretary Defense are a member of the cabinet, appointed by the president. This piece of information is pivotal in order to fathom the idea that the Secretary of Defense is subject to modification with every transformation of administration, hence sanctioning only a small amount of continuity in military strategy. The responsibility coveted by the Secretary of Defense at this conference that can be inferred from the duties outlined above is, collaboration with all constituents of the Department of the Defense in the direction of providing the best recommendation regarding resolution of the tensions over the South China Sea. • 16. Stereotype A Thought By Beverly Daniel Tatum Stereotype a Thought Today, many believe that stereotypes have been eradicated throughout our modern world, this is far from the truth. Beverly Daniel Tatum, an author of several books including Why Are Black Kids Sitting Together in the Cafeteria asks, How did academic achievement become defined as exclusively white behavior? Tatum has an interesting point, however stereotyping is not just about race it can be about gender bias, or body issues too. Ann DuCille, author of From Multicultural Barbie and the Merchandising of Difference says; Barbie s body is a consumer object itself a vehicle for display of clothing and spectacular trappings of a wealthy teenage fantasy life . Ducille gives a good example of body politics, and the importance of not only focusing on race. Thus, is a good example of how stereotypes are learned by how one is treated in schoolor at home. Education about racial identity, gender equality, and body shaming, to an extent, will help eliminate some forms of stereotyping and create a more understanding and equal society. Therefore schools are not the problem, stereotypes, however racist, sexist, or just plain mean, are learned at home and in schools from peers, parents and teachers alike. In a way, stereotypes will never truly be eliminated from our world because from the day we are born we notice differences. One may argue that it is just a distinction between people, which constitutes stereotyping. Just ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There would be days where the smog would be so thick that people were forced to stay indoors due to the health risks. In the late 1940 s Los Angeles established the Air Pollution Control District. It was the first in the nation. Since then there have been stricter regulations and laws passed to help reduce Los Angeles smogproblem. Though Los Angeles has reduced its air pollutionby nearly a third of what it was, it is still one of the nation worst air polluters. It has not met the Environmental Protection Agency s acceptable levels of air pollutant. Photochemical smog is the main reason behind the air pollution in Los Angeles, but there are many parts of photochemical smog that make it so harmful. Photochemical smog develops from two main sources: sunlight and the emission from combustible engines. What are emitted from the incomplete combustion are carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxide, sulfur oxide, volatile organic compounds (VOC s) and very fine particulate matter. When nitrogen oxide reacts with sunlight, it creates ground level ozone, O3. Ozone in the upper atmosphere does is very beneficial and shields us from ultra violet rays. The Disney brothers Walt and Roy founded Disney in 1923. Originally, Disney was strictly an animation industry before expanding into television, film, and most notably theme parks. Disney s theme parks have become world renowned for the experiences and memories they give the people that visit the park. Disney s parks are also respected for their organizational communication in terms of their employees and their interactions with visitors of the theme park. As mentioned earlier, Disney is a company that applies organizational communication to all facets of their operations especially to their theme parks. This is why we decided to study them so closely for this paper. We will apply Deal and Kennedy s Strong Culturetheory, Weber s Theory of Bureaucracy, and Blake and Mouton s Managerial Grid to what we have learned about Disney as an organization to analyze where they fit into each of these theories and critique their organizational practice and identify any ways they can improve as outlined by these theories. • 26. The Object Oriented ( Oo ) Environment And The Strategies... Executive Summary: This research report discusses about the object oriented (OO) environment and the strategies that are used for testing an object oriented environment. The report also lists the tactics and metrics for testing in an object oriented environment. The object oriented approach closely relates the programs to the real world with the help of objects. The popularity of OO approach has increased due to ease of reuse and modular architecture that leads to quality software. Software testing is important to ensure delivery of error free software. Testing an OO program is challenging because of the complexity due to interconnection among the components. Various testing strategies and methods can be followed to test OO software. Apart from the strategies and methods certain metrics need to be considered and used to measure the quality of the projects. Software metrics are proven measures for measuring the development of the software process. OO programs are based on hierarchy of classes and objects. The four pillars, encapsulation, inheritance, polymorphism and abstraction can be used to achieve reusability of code. As compared to the conventional software programming, the faults are not found in code, instead are in the interaction of the chunks of codes. Testing of an OO program begins with reviewing the object oriented analysis (OOA) and object oriented design (OOD) models. An Analysis Of To His Coy Mistress By Andrew Marvell In the poem, To His Coy Mistress, by Andrew Marvell, The narrator is writing a letter to a woman he is courting, which the storyteller feels that life is short and this woman needs to stop showing mixed feelings towards him, to know her true feelings. The narrator is convinced that there is not enough time for this woman to be shy, regarding her feelings to him, in addition to, his opinion of believing that he is the best man for her, but if this woman does not feel the same way, then let the narrator live his life and to not make him wait for a decision from her. The message of this poem that is conveyed by the author, life is too short to wait on someone else s decision of whether a person feels the same way, or if they are being timid about how they feel about someone. One of the main points made by Marvell, is that life is too short for this lady to mull over whether she likes the author or does not want to pursue anything other than friendship, instead of what the author wants, love and marriage. In this excerpt from the poem by Marvell is stating that he feels that there will not be enough time before this woman decides how she feels about the narrator. But at my back I always hear /Time s wingГЁd chariot hurrying near; And yonder all before us lie /Deserts of vast eternity, (21 24). This survey would be too limited to distinguish which is driving the other, except to say that a relationship of some kind exists, and that could provide a jumping off point for future research. It would, however, provide insight into the connection that may exist between a person s level of self efficacy and their experience of abuse, both as victim and perpetrator. This would be extremely beneficial to anyone involved in assisting abuse victims because it would provide the knowledge and motivation to help clients develop self efficacy, thereby arming them with at least one of the requisite tools to safeguard them against becoming a victim or offender. My hope is that by enhancing victims self efficacy, future generations can be spared because victims will go forward making healthier choices than did their predecessors. One of them was the Chinese Head Tax which was a tax that was put on every Chinese person that wanted to enter Canada. At the beginning, when the law was first put in place, it only cost fifty dollars for every Chinese immigrant. • 42. Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill One famous example of pollution is the Deepwater Horizon oil spill. It happened in the Gulf of Mexico and it is the largest oil spill in United States history. It was caused by a BP oil well explosion. This was said to have happened because the managers misread pressure information and replaced drilling fluid with ocean water. According to the co chair there was not a culture of safety on that rig . The oil spill was discovered April 22, 2010. It is still not entirely cleaned up. The polluted water contained 40% Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH) than most oil spills. • 43. Couponing Should Be Banned Essay Couponing is a smart method to save money. While couponing is a great way to save money, is it fair? Couponing takes a lot of time and most people choose not to bother and end up paying a higher price for the exact same product at the same store. Should couponing even be legal? Price discrimination is a factor at play when it comes to couponing. Customer rebates are another questionable practice we will discuss as we delve into this topic of pricediscrimination, price elasticity and monopolistic competition. Most people that coupon are looking for lower prices or a better deal, but aren t we all? Couponing is time consuming and not everyone has the time to save the money they would like, and a person could say that this is an unfair practice. Coupons are a very effective way to price discriminate. Customers who are very responsive to price changes that is, customers with a very elastic demand are likely to take time to find coupons that effectively lower the good s price. On the other hand, customers less responsive to price changes because of their less elastic demand aren t as likely to take the time to find coupons. Graham, R. J. (n.d.). Going under the assumption that only people who absolutely need to save money are the only ones who coupons, is that fair? One would say that it is. If a person really wants to save money, they can clip coupons as well. The couponing practice is not discriminatory as far as who can clip coupons, it is just discriminatory as to who will actually do it. I, personally, should use more coupons, but the time it takes to clip them out and finding the product that the product is for is too time consuming for me. The opportunity cost is too great in some circumstances for me to clip coupons even though I might need ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. The Crucible Critical Analysis The English philosopher, Sir Francis Bacon, once wrote, Reading maketh a full man; conference a ready man; and writing an exact man . Bacon expresses three ideas about how processing literature affects an individual. To explain, reading fills one s mind with knowledge and ideas, talking about those ideas makes one adaptable to differences in others, and writing forces one is define one s beliefs and opinions. In room 303, Bacon s three statements are practiced regularly, as students read and annotate out of the hymnals, discuss major texts in class, and write essays each week over the material. During the last semester alone the Junior Honors English class read several texts by American Authors from the ancient oral cosmogonist myths of Native Americans to the Feminist literature of the 1890 s. In the entire range of different texts read, three specific texts were the most important in room 303. The Crucible by Arthur Miller makes one reflect on one s morals as the play unfolds. The 1953 play revolves around the town of puritan Salemand the actual people and events of the famous Salem witch trials. Arthur Miller wrote The Crucible in the height of the Red Scare, and his play reveals the mass hysteria and paranoia which plagued America at the time. Many of the innocent people accused in both Salem and in the 1950 s faced not only a biased court, but a questioning of morality as the choice often was oneself gets jacked or one discloses one s cohorts in the crime. ... • 45. Anthem Individuality Essay Individuality in Anthem Ceaseless collectivism is not something that can be forced upon a community. Ayn Rand s novel Anthem conveys this through the writings of Equality 7 2125, a man willing to stand up to the collectivism of the society he is confined to. Anthem not only shows how dull and lifeless a society can be with a lack of individuality in its people, but also reveals how one person can significantly impact a community. This novel displays the importance of individualism through Equality s thoughts and actions. This includes when he reinvents electricity in the tunnel, falls in love with Liberty, and when he completely separates himself from society. In addition, Equality continues to make his individualism known by preferring a woman, Liberty 3 5000, above all. While sweeping the streets, Equality takes notice of a woman working in the fields. He is instantly intrigued by her and thinks of her over all others. Equality s attitude is significantly changed by his interactions with Liberty. We do not know why we think of them. We do not know why, when we think of them, we feel of a sudden that earth is good and that it is not a burden to live (Rand 41). Individualism is shown when Equality chooses to favor Liberty. Equality looked at her, even though there were other women in the field that day. He chooses Liberty above all the woman. Equallity shows a preference in only her, which shows individuality. To add, Equality is becoming more unruly and disobiedient by continuing to break rules. The crimes he comits involve talking to woman of other Trades, looking upon woman, and the Transgression of Preference, which is to prefer someone or something above others. Equality s love for Liberty continues to isolate and detach him from his brothers. His love for Liberty motivates him to banish himself from his society and cut off all his ties to it. Equality s individuality grows further when he purposely separates himself from his society and obliterates the last of his identity that associates himself with the City. • 46. Allison Bechdel s Fun Home In Allison Bechdel s graphic memoir Fun Home, she uses a moment to moment transition to show the transition of her father asking her a personal, disturbing question to her response and reaction to the question. These two panels require little closure compared to other panels that Bechdel includes in her memoir, which is evident because of the small time gap between the question and the answer. While the transition between the two panels requires little closure with the scene itself, there is a lot of room for interpretation involving Allision s thoughts and reaction to her father s question. The scene itself is pretty obvious with what is happening with Allison and her father. He sees the way that his daughter is staring at this woman with ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 47. Analysis of a Memorable Scene from Saving Private Ryan MEMORABLE SCENE IN SAVING PRIVATE RYAN The epic 1998 war movie Saving Private Ryan opens in the present day with an elderly World War II veteran accompanied by his family visiting the Normandy American Cemetery and Memorial at Colleville sur mer in Normandy, France, site of the infamous D Day landings by the Allies in Nazi occupied France on June 4, 1944 that precipitated the end of Nazi occupation in Europe and the end of the war. As he approaches the tomb stones he begins walking faster, separating from his family behind him and he collapses in tears at the foot of one grave in particular, that of Captain John H. Miller. The screen then dissolves and transitions to the horrendous scenes of human carnage on Omaha Beach on Normandy on June 4, 1944 seen through the eyes of Captain Miller. The final scene of the movie was especially memorable because of the way that it tied together the memories of the elderly veteran with the heroism and human tragedy that took place on the same beaches and that he witnessed and experienced personally inland. As the story unfolds, Miller is assigned the task of leading a squad of U.S. soldiers through occupied territories far ahead of the Allied advance into France with a specific mission directly from General George C. Marshall at the War Department in Washington, DC. Marshall had learned that three brothers from a single family had recently been killed in the war and that one remaining brother was unaccounted for in France. Pursuant ... • 48. Essay about Gender Bias Critic of Antigone A Gender Bias Approach to Antigone Just as one stone removed can break a bridge, one flaw can bring a man to ruins. The flaw of one man cannot bring down an entire kingdom, but rather one outlook of the king can lead to the demise of the whole. In Sophocles epic tragedy, Antigone, a strong gender bias is present throughout the tragedy, and is partially responsible for the downfall of the king. To Sophocles the king is not always representative of the people, but acts on his own personal desires and judgments. Sophocles was born in 496 B.C. and from 490 B.C. until 442 B.C. when the first performance of Antigone at the Dionysian theater; there had been many wars in the Greek and Persian history. These ongoing battles would not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It was not until 442 B.C. that he wrote Antigone, with an even greater allusion to the role of women. Before Antigone begins, the two brothers of Antigone are engaged in a battle no only of land, but of power. Their deep desires to rule Thebes and male dominating ego, only lead to their deaths; a tragedy that would affect more than just themselves. The battle of glory for men would not be the same for their sisters, but in 442 B.C. as Sophocles illustrates, the living women would have to deal with the tragedies of the dead; a task not easy to be burdened with as woman. Their uncle, Creon, dominates Antigone and her sister Ismene to the extent of mourning their own brother s death. Antigone has chosen a fate without glory: I ll suffer nothing as great as death without glory, (Antigone line 112). Only a male in this time could die with honor and glory, and just as her uncle has forced a death without glory for her brother, although a glorious death is honorable, she has decided it a better life to die without glory than dishonor her blood and the gods. Ismene does not wish to go against the laws of her uncle, for women were not born to contend with men, but between the bond of her and Antigone, she will defy the king(line 75). Ismene is just as horrified about the edict as Antigone is, but asks what they weak women can do. During this era the women had a specific role, and to defy that role would be horrific enough, despite ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
